Ooh (I'm on a roll now) and I can stick an NFC tag to the phone charger beside the bed so that when I dock it at night it will run the routine for bedtime! Saves me having to tell Alexa to do ti. God, I'm going to end up like one of those passengers in Wall-E
I have my down stairs desk setup with Hue lights. My wife likes to creep up and scare me while I have my gaming headset on. To circumvent that I installed a Hue motion censor at the top of my stairs. During the day I have it programed to change to bright white that way in case I'm in a meeting or something my face doesn't light up a strange color. At night I have it programed to change to red. I also set up a routine through Alexa audibly saying "intruder, intruder, intruder!" My wife hasn't been a big fan of this part so I disabled it for the time being lol
*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*
I use a Philips Hue motion sensor in my mailbox so when it is opened a couple lights turn red to let me know the mail has arrived or someone opened the mailbox. I use HomeKit for that.
For any homebridge users, you can also do the first motion sensor toggle with the hue-sensors plugin. This adds a switch to your home app to toggle the sensor on/off. The most useful bit about this is it can be used as part of automations.
Dear Justin I’ve a question for you because I don’t know how to do what I’ve in mind. Actually I really don’t know neither it could be possible.. I try to describe my situation. I’ve an action figure that can light its eyes using its own RF remote. To have the ability to turn on it with Siri I’ve bought a BroadLink WiFi device (RM4 pro), downloaded its own app and setup it to have the turn on input command directly on my phone. Then In the app I used the option to add it to Siri. It has created a shortcut that I can recall on my phone and on my HomePods as well. Now I would like to go even further. I would like to create a shortcut that should turn on my action figure when a motion sensor detects a movement. I have tried and traied again but there is no way it works.. In your experience do you think is it possible to set? If yes could you help me to set? It would be great, you know. Please let me know. Many many thanks. Giuliano
What would be useful from your NFC vid is to see if you can create automations from NFC that anybody in the house can use. Though I haven't looked at them yet - so maybe I can just share the shortcut?
Do I need to connect chromcast 4k or firestick straight to sync plilips box so it can sync the lights with my Sony Google tv? Chromcast was working good but now it keeps on disconecting and have to unplug and plug it back in so it can work. I bought another cromcast and it was the same thing so I'm thinking is the sync box🥺
Do you know how to auto arm and auto disarm a blink camera system based on location? 2 smartphones out of house = arm, as soon as 1 is home = disarm. i have philips Hue and Alexa
Nice video, Justin. I'll be checking out a lot more of your stuff. I just ordered 8 Philips Hue candle bulbs (white), the latest Hue Bridge and a Philips Tap dial. I'm clear on how to do a standard setup for my 8 bulb chandelier but I'd like to have a routine where the bulbs "rotate" or chase each other. I don't see anything in the off-the-shelf Hue app that would accomplish that. What do I need to add to pull this off?
Agreed... I am sick of getting recommendations to a tech reviewer I cant stand and I am subd to Justin and this is the first one I have seen from him in ages. Six months late... come on YT better recommendations.
I just gotta say! He's such a cute guy & so smart! I got started with philips hue only because of him! They owe you $1000 honey! Lol 😂 I own like 60 hue devices now! Love their products
That was a lot of information in just 5 minutes, things I didn’t even know were possible to do with Hue. Will make sure to watch it a couple more times before the next one. Thank you, Justin!
Use Apple shortcuts maybe + HomeKit? Using an automation that runs when you are at a specific location, and then runs an if statement. Or maybe if this then that (ifttt).
I have four Philips color bulbs in my kitchen. When I turn the Philippines off one bulb turns back on by itself. So I turn the Kitchen bulbs off again then it turns back on with a different color. When I turn the full bulbs off In the kitchen, I can’t seem to stop this one bulb from turning back on again. I called Phillips technical support and to this point they have not been able to help me. They would not replace the bulb because they said it was out of warranty. So I’m at my wits end as far as solving this issue, do you have any suggestions?
@@Justin_tech Drive disconnected from the bridge and reinstalling it on the system, still this did not work call Phillips tech people and they said the bulb was bad so they suggest I send the world back to them so they can analyze it find out why it malfunction. This is good for me, I’ll just buy another bulb. Thanks for your information and I did find out these Bulbs can be complicated.
I started having issues when I maxed out my bridge. I bought a second but for the life of me, I just can't figure it out. What's more, I can't find a vid dedicated to adding another bridge and moving items from one to another.
In order to “move” a light you’ll need to delete it on one bridge and add it on the other. Setting up a new bridge is simple. Just like you added the last. My only advice would be to use or create a new account for out of home control on each bridge. I’ll have to make a video explaining all this. Keep an eye out if you’re having trouble!
I really need to get some solid automations setup. My house is full of hue and so many other smart devices, but I only run them using Alexa or the app. Great videos! I learn something new every time I watch!
Hi! Just subscribed to you after coming across your video, very informative thanks! I'm considering getting the SwitchBot NFC tags but have Hue Lights with a Hue Bridge and use the Hue Switch Dimmer with a faceplate over original light switch, can I still use the NFC Tag to control my lights? Or will it only be possible if I have a switchbot Bot
@@Justin_tech thank you so much for the speedy reply and taking the time to read my comment. I'll have a look at the chips, thanks for the recommendation and look very much forward to seeing the video soon. Have a great evening

Philips HUE Bluetooth has been a disaster for me with Google Home. Kept disconnecting. After resetting for the 7th time in a week I finally returned the bulb and replaced with a Wiz bulb and had no problems .
Guys... Hue lights are ABOVE AND BEYOND--- Game changer. Do not buy the cheap stuff. You get what ya pay for. Those cync lights? Crashed first day. Super disappointed. Spend the cash. You will thank me
All this is great. But what about pets activating motion sensors? No one seems to have made any videos on how to prevent Fluffy the cat or Rover the dog from activating lights, cameras and/or other automations from happening

Voice Monkey - allows you to trigger an Alexa routine from an iOS shortcut - therefore from NFC. A little bit convoluted, but works well.
