    I have just ordered my mini....for my 66th birthday. I have loved photograhy since i had a Kodak Instamatic 50 in 1965. 12 colour exposures cost my parents 8s/4d. Considering you could feed a family for days for 10 bob from Tesco that was expensive. The tip on correct balance between sky and ground is well appreciated. In the past ive even had to resort to taking two pics and photoshopping them together. No auto stitching and even using a scanner. The tech now is liberating.

    This is fantastic! I'm only two flights outdoors with my Mini and this is my first drone. The weather has been terrible and windy and this drone is not meant for any kind of windy conditions. 15mph is my max I feel comfortable with. Anyway, thank you so much for showing this, everyone is complaining about this issue of lack of camera control and this really sorts it out. I am inspired to make films for my own enjoyment but right now I need to gather some footage to work with. I've never edited video before so that's another thing to learn.

    JUST ORDERED ONE. And this is THEE most informative enlightening video on the subject, hands DOWN. I hear there is a firmware upgrade giving manual settings, but my Mini hasn't arrived yet so I don't know what that means yet. But i'm memorizing everything in this lesson regardless. THIS is how you MAKE a TUTORIAL. With actual INSIGHT, instead of just "repeating what someone else said" on a different channel and calling it "your thoughts." Thank you for that.
    UPDATE: I see a couple other channels teaching this same thing BUT those videos were all curiously uploaded a few weeks after this one. This still remains the first video to point this out, to me at least, and likely the source for a few other "tips" videos. Totally saw it here then made their own version of the same information.

    Thanks. Since getting my Mini, I’ve watched countless UA-cam reviews and videos, most of which are superficial, repetitive and frankly rather childish. Now I discover your content and it is gold dust. It’s intelligent, to the point, engaging and professional. And you didn’t start by saying Hey what’s up guys or wearing your hat back to front. All yo7 need now is a bit of West Coast sunshine. Brillian? I’m a fan.

    • @DjTonioRoffo
      @DjTonioRoffo 5 років тому

      Exactly. It's always easy to bash a product - it's much more engaging to get the most out of the situation you are given. The AE lock makes it almost perfect, yes, your shutter speed is unknown but for cinematic panning shots without much movement in it, it doesn't matter. Good to see the white balance doesn't seem to shift either, in AE.

    • @KarlBlessing
      @KarlBlessing 4 роки тому

      ND filters are mainly better if you want to reduce your shutter speed even with the Exposure Value set. There are some cases where a lower shutter speed produces a more desirable effect during motion as opposed to having something well above 1/1000th of a second and matching it up with other camera footage shot at 24fps f/2.0~4.0 , with the shutter kept around 1/48~1/60 for more natural looking motion blur. Though I'm not sure this is that entirely important with the drone footage, but that is why the ND filters are still typically desired.

    Thanks a lot for that! Best tip I’ve seen since owning the Mini. I’ve seen a lot of people online put off by the auto exposure, but if any of them watch this, I’m sure you’ll change their mind. As for DJI not sponsoring you, this video on its own is a prime example of why they should, I’m guessing a lot people on the fence will go and purchase after watching this. Thanks again.

    Hi Stewart a very random thought but something that has always been the case. The use of apertures has not always been restricted to the diaphragm mounted within the lens system. An aperture, hole, smaller than the one formed within the lens system mounted in front of the lens restricts the amount of light entering the lens. With an aperture of f/2.8 the shutter speed at 100 iso for a cloudy day is 1/1000 sec. That 180 degree rotation thing has gone out the window. I’m using a Phantom 4 pro so I have not played with this but it might be of interest to those f2.8 Mavic users for a bit of fun. With a fixed aperture the exposure is controlled by iso and shutter speed. When the iso is reduced to 100 iso and the exposure is excessive the shutter speed is made shorter. Most people use Nd filters to make the shutter speed longer to conform with shutter speed being half the frame rate selected. Now if you can mount Nd filers on you camera system then take a thin piece of opaque black material, most likely plastic or blackened foil cut a hole in it and fix it to your Nd filter. Preferably in a way that will not fall off during flight. Those with out filter mounts will just have to mount the aperture in a secure way to the camera system over the front element of the lens. Now the real fun thing, the shape of the aperture is the shape that will be formed when a bright light, the sun, hits the lens. The aperture does not have to be circular so it could be any shape you want. If you could suggest a pair of wings in the shape of the aperture and mounted them upside down in front of the lens those normally something like a flat sided circle flares will now be suggestive of bird wings. Have to say when ever I have done this it is with a still camera in studio. So there is the random thought and I might even pull of the magnifying glass and see if I can do this for these short focal length lenses on the drones. Exposure on a cloudy day would be 1/100 @ f/8 for 100iso then the aperture would be say 24/8 which equals 3 mm, close enough with auto exposure. Love to see those birds or spitfires flying out of the sun.

    Great video, but quick question.... when you lock exposure, you say you've got a good exposure for the ground, but then when the view tilts up, the sky is also correctly exposed. So in reality have you post processed brightened the ground because locking the exposure will only make either the ground or the sky correct and the other will either be blown out or too dark. Also, is this the same camera used for the old Phantom 3 drones, or will it be improved? For me the biggest problem with these cameras is the dynamic range but I can't find any info on the stops anywhere.

    Thank you! I shoot professional video, but am budget conscious and am about ready to add a drone to the tool kit. Mavic Mini is what I'm looking at, but I was worried that panning wouldn't be smooth. Based on the video you've shared, it looks GREAT!

    This was an awesome tip. But here we are 7 months later and DJI has come up with some updates of the firmware. How does that change things?

    Great video, one question, with the quick shot helix mode, why is h the scenery different? I think for true comparison perhaps use the same shot with different settings? The first quick shot had water in frame and was brighter, the second quick shot had only green in shot.

    Brilliant drone. I had the phantom 3 standard before and just for ease of use alone the mini is a game changer

    Fabulous video. Having never owned a drone till yesterday, I bought it to enhance my story telling to more than just my DSLR. I shoot in Raw and was concerned that the quality of the videos I would get would be poor, but I continue to be impressed with this little drone. Thanks for the video and the eBook!
