    It still amazes me how a system based on 1, 10, 100 is difficult to comprehend :D I think it is mostly an 'issue' of not having a frame of reference (like someone who grew up with Imperial can spread his hands and roughly indicate what a foot is, and use his/her thumb and index finger to indicate an inch) so the a centimeter or decimeter simply cannot be translated to an actual movement/size.
    That said, so many machinists do it (it's how I learned to translate imperial to something I can visualize in metric) do it, so anyone can! ;)

    • @unpluggeduk

      It's because Americans can only measure things in Football Fields. But then when you call a game Football when it's played with the hands that's what you expect.

      I know both well being in grade 6 when canada switched over.
      Still would use imperial for quick recognition. A mile comes to mind faster than a distance in kilometers.
      And miles per gallon is way ahead of litres per 100 km ever will be.

    Another good reason to not put RTH height to 400' is that the higher you go, the stronger the winds are. So you may be up there, not knowing why your drone is not moving, but it's because it's fighting against a strong wind. Make it a bit higher than your surroundings, it will be much safer.

      @@terracore Talking specifically about measuring: 5280 feet in a mile, 3 feet in a yard, 12 inches in a foot, an inch is divided into 32nds, there is no way to argue that imperial measurement makes any sense when you have 10 millimeters in a centimeter, 100 centimeters in a meter, 1000 meters in a kilometer. Yes I'll go to the end of my life estimating things in feet and miles but also knowing that metric makes way more sense.

    I just bought a used mini off ebay. Perfect shape it’s been sitting in a closet for years. I knew i need to update all the programs. All the videos and all the instructions said to do it but none showed how. Very simple when you showed how. The only thing I could find was involving a laptop and a wire that I did not have. Thanks . Some great tips for new mini pilots. I did not know half these existed. My first few flights recordings were in 1080 mode. Haha. It still shot beautiful vids considering though. They were so nice I just thought it was in the 2.7 k mode. I kinda wish we could set the imperial metric or standard to our own likings though. Mix and match. For instance in Canada we kinda use a mix of both. Feet and kilometers per hour. I am used to construction work and no one uses meters here. We use feet.. Anyways "cest la vie" We are stuck in the middle.

      Sadly, the DJI Mavic Mini does not have a form of that type of setting. It will sadly likely stay that way too, even though older drones they’ve made in this price range (DJI Phantom 3) have had this feature. Super sad, but I personally don’t really ever find myself using this TOO much on my Mavic Air 2, so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but would still be nice to have when you need it!

      Penalties, you could be fined - I’ve heard could be in thousands. The Mavic Mini is at this time, 8/31/2020, exempt from registration yes. Registering only takes literally 10 minutes and costs $5 though, so I register all my drones.

    Hey Carson... Good info, even for those of us who have been flying for a bit (just over a year for me). I've played with the Cine mode on my Platinum and 2Pro. Talk about slooooowwww response time. YIKES! While it does give the cinematic type smoothness, if trees are in the area, or flying over orchards, or a lot of brush type ground cover, you could be in trouble real quickly. Since I've experimented with the Cine mode, I just leave it P mode, and manually work on my stick control inputs. I have adjusted these under the EXP (?) settings - info gleaned from Ed Ricker, and Russ on a 51 Drones. Need to play with the input settings to get what I want in response time. I have yet to play with the auto flight modes.
    Cheers...

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 роки тому

      Tony, thanks for the input! I agree, the cinesmooth mode should be used lightly and only when you FULLY understand how severely it impacts your ability to maneuver the drone. You definitely need to play around with the autonomous flight modes sometime. They’re pretty interesting!

    No, formatting SD card before every use is nonsensical. No, you don't need to have SD card installed to update your drone (have you even tested that)? Also, the world is mostly metric, so what's with your first point? High RTH is bad because wind gets stronger the higher you go, not because it will drain your battery. Also, avoid flying close to power lines because they might mess up sensors (lookup videos of drone crashes above power lines). Dislike :)

    Hi Carson, do you need to calibrate the drone each time before take off? I mean mine it require me to calibrate each time before i take off and im wondering is it normal?

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Frankie! It really just depends on if you are changing locations or not. The correct answer is YES, calibrate before each flight, but in my case I’m always flying from the same location in my backyard so I don’t always do it each flight lol. Since I’m flying from the same location I just sorta wait until the app says that it’s having issues with the compass and then I calibrate. If your drone requires you each time, it’s likely because you’re flying from different locations each time and it has a new set of environmental factors to take account of. Hope this helps!

      Directly from the app, no, I have never heard of that being possible in any DJI app. However, if you have a jail broken iOS device or a rooted Android device, it may be possible to do such thing through tweaks.

    Thanks man. I know you posted this a few years ago but i found the info good. I just bought a DJI Mini se and found that most of the stuff is very similar to the Mavic Mini. This is my first drone and am very nervous about flying this thing. I have noticed that I do have signal issues sometimes. Oh yes I am in South Africa.

    Nice to see your windy yard again. 🌬. I’m thinking you do not have the Air but I’m curious if I would like the mini already having the Air. Do you think it is a step backwards?

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 роки тому +1

      I do not have the Air, but I totally see that as a step backwards. With such a great sensor on the Mavic Air, I don't see the need for downgrading unless you absolutely need the very slight smaller size. I think you ought to stick with the Air, but that's just my opinion, it's ultimately up to you what you think is best for YOU! Hope this helps! Fly safe.

    Hello, Carson, my name is Arthur I have 2 questions I have the Mavic mini I can only fly only 161 feet and I tried everything with no success what to do. Question two I went deepsea fishing and I had a signal and launch my drone 15 seconds into the flight I lost the signal and what to do when in the middle of the ocean. I got the drone to work its way back to the boat while using a net I got some great footage. Is there any way of getting drone to fly under control in the pacific ocean.

    In the video you state that you typically don't want to fly in sport mode in the wind. I'm not sure of your reasoning when you say that because in the wind sport mode becomes critically important as it allows the mini to fly with more pitch to cut through the wind. This is very important if the wind becomes to strong for the mini in the standard mode. In fact, switching the mini to sport mode and decreasing your altitude are the 2 crucial things you need to do if it's being taken by the wind.

    Love the vids Carson. As a brand new flyer I can't figure out how to switch screens. If I am in Settings doing safety I can't figure out how to get to my main screen. There's no "X" to tap nor does double tapping the current screen get me to the screen where I can take off. I hope this makes sense. How do I get out of Settings to my flight screen? TIA

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 роки тому

      Hey Dan, thanks for commenting! All you should need to do is tap outside of the settings window on the camera view you can see i’m the background. That’s at least what I do! I’ve noticed that if the DJI Fly app ever takes up the entire screen, it automatically knows that and adds an ‘x’ to escape the screen, so if you’re not seeing one, just tap the background behind the settings panel. Hope this helps!

  • @TheMirEye
    @TheMirEye 4 роки тому

    The metric system is not meant to be used by specific countries, if you think how convenient it is for drone flying you would change your mind. m/sec as unit is the absolute best for flying a drone performing easily mental calculations that are useful. Your mini goes with 13 m/sec and descends with 3 m/sec. No other unit usage can tell you that easily, that 400m away your mini needs around 30 sec to reach you or 40 sec to come down from the legal limit of 122m. And since m/sec easily is converted to knots (x2) you easily get an idea of wind intensity when airborne just by comparing your actual drone speed with the speed of its specs

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 роки тому

      Well, yes, I know all scientists and such use metric even if not outside the US. Those quick conversions sound nice, but for casual flyers like myself that don’t need to know that information in regular flight, keeping it in imperial just makes flight safer. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know how far my drone is because growing up on imperial, I can pretty easily gauge how far 500ft, 1000ft, 1500ft, etc., are from me.

    2000m = 2km
    1500m =1.5km
    1460m = 1.46km
    1cm=10mm
    5cm=50mm
    5.5cm = 55mm
    Try do that with inches to ft and ft to miles. Sure you can work it out but its not as easy.
    No offense meant sorry for the rant just trying to say metric is actually pretty simple its also more accurate thats why NASA uses it.
