Thanks for your video. It was very helpful to know how the DJI Fly app works to be able to change from metric to imperial measurement. Also how to Format the SD card to the drone. My first 2 flights with my new DJI mini SE were done without formatting and I only had cached video in low resolution on the app not on my card. Also I hit return to home and the drone flew to (approx.) 400 feet before adjusting for return to home function. I will be changing the measurements and formatting first thing. Thanks again for taking time and sharing what you learned!

It still amazes me how a system based on 1, 10, 100 is difficult to comprehend :D I think it is mostly an 'issue' of not having a frame of reference (like someone who grew up with Imperial can spread his hands and roughly indicate what a foot is, and use his/her thumb and index finger to indicate an inch) so the a centimeter or decimeter simply cannot be translated to an actual movement/size. Hey Carson... Good info, even for those of us who have been flying for a bit (just over a year for me). I've played with the Cine mode on my Platinum and 2Pro. Talk about slooooowwww response time. YIKES! While it does give the cinematic type smoothness, if trees are in the area, or flying over orchards, or a lot of brush type ground cover, you could be in trouble real quickly. Since I've experimented with the Cine mode, I just leave it P mode, and manually work on my stick control inputs. I have adjusted these under the EXP (?) settings - info gleaned from Ed Ricker, and Russ on a 51 Drones. Need to play with the input settings to get what I want in response time. I have yet to play with the auto flight modes. Cheers...
Tony, thanks for the input! I agree, the cinesmooth mode should be used lightly and only when you FULLY understand how severely it impacts your ability to maneuver the drone. You definitely need to play around with the autonomous flight modes sometime. They’re pretty interesting!
Hey man can I make a suggestion for your videos? Maybe it's not useful to others, but for me I like it when a video has a break between tips with a black screen and a numbered tip in large print so I can scroll across the video timeline (especially a video longer than 5 minutes) and get to a tip that I actually think I want to see. I think it would increase the replay value of a video. Just a thought, nice work and thanks for your effort!
Great idea! I do that in a few of my videos, especially more recent ones! Pro tip for all my videos though is that I utilize the UA-cam time stamp feature where you can click on the progress bar or scrub through and there are labels that show up to help you easily find the sections you need :)!
Just got the mini 2, and I love it. 4k video, top speed of 35mph in sport mode ,ocusync 2.0 and the new controller. Its a great upgrade and awesome drone.
I've had almost all of DJI's Drones and I have always enjoyed flying and using them. Aside from my Air and maybe my Spark which our Son in Law now has, this is absolutely the most enjoyable "Hobbyist" Drone I've ever owned. It has some great features, battery life is surprisingly good and the Camera at 30FPS in 2.7K is great. A 64GB SD Card really goes a long way. This is my "Little Muffin" and in Iowa you aren't supposed to take Drones into State Parks. The Mini looks like a Toy it's so small. No one bothers me and we spend our Summers traveling around the State with our nice, big Tailer. No one is the wiser about the great little Drone I'm flying. When a Phantom came out, even my Air they brought unwanted attention. Now, no one cares, I'm like the kids with their RC Cars. Great Video.

Nice to see your windy yard again. 🌬. I’m thinking you do not have the Air but I’m curious if I would like the mini already having the Air. Do you think it is a step backwards?
I do not have the Air, but I totally see that as a step backwards. With such a great sensor on the Mavic Air, I don't see the need for downgrading unless you absolutely need the very slight smaller size. I think you ought to stick with the Air, but that's just my opinion, it's ultimately up to you what you think is best for YOU! Hope this helps! Fly safe.

Lovely video Carson. Just wondering if you could help me. Is there a way for me to have follow me or track me not using the quick shots? I just want my mavic mini to follow me if I am walking for more than 5 minutes?
Sadly, the DJI Mavic Mini does not have a form of that type of setting. It will sadly likely stay that way too, even though older drones they’ve made in this price range (DJI Phantom 3) have had this feature. Super sad, but I personally don’t really ever find myself using this TOO much on my Mavic Air 2, so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but would still be nice to have when you need it!
Thanks so much! I learned so much from this video...took my drone out for the first time today and it was SUPER annoying having to try to figure everything out while I was wasting battery life :/
Hey Carson....great vid....good rule of thumb regarding RTH height is near max it out or at least 300 feet...IF you are confident and knowledgeable of the terrain your flying over...new pilots must remember the drone will fly back to home point in straight line, so if you navigated there in a circuitous route AND there are obstacles in the way that are higher than your RTH...it WILL simply fly into them at the prescribed RTH (which is from launch point not actual). I for example proximity fly down rivers surrounded by steep hills on either side. One should always err on the side of caution AND remember the quad does not have a true altimeter...it’s indicated AGL is FROM the take off point. when I launch in my area I may be down low near the river and 200 feet may simply put me at the height of surrounding terrain (which might read something entirely different on a map....). This is very important if you lose signal altogether as you may not be able to take control of the drone to avoid obstacles, when out of visual range (lol...don’t say it) AND you lose video feed you won’t see it. That said DJI drones are incredibly reliable when flown properly...they almost always come back. Trust the quad and listen to it at all times...plan for RTH at max alt vice your battery remaining...unless you are flying the battery way down OR not paying attention to high wind warnings...it’s simply safer to put it up high...and let it come home...you are also likely to reacquire signal sooner...and thereby control. One last thing...and I don’t believe it’s on the Mini...but for most other DJIs...when you get disoriented or the drone starts erratic behavior..ESPECIALLY when in “modes” always always always (it almost feels counter intuitive but....) let go the sticks, let them center up while simultaneously hitting the “pause/cancel” button (again I don’t believe the mini controller has one)...the drone should, if it has good gps signal, stop in place and altitude...and allow you to then monitor you vid feed and controller for the “corrective” action needed.
As I typically say when referring to RTH altitudes, it varies BASED ON ENVIRONMENTS. Where I live, in good ‘ole flat Indiana, literally everywhere which I fly is extremely flat so I am pretty much never worried about the drone hitting anything that is higher than 120-150ft. Definitely that should be put up higher though if you’re flying in more unknown terrain!
So I just got this drone...and on my first flight, it drifted and hit powerlines, crashed and broke LOL...Thankfully Best Buy was kind enough to accept a replacement and I just got the new one and am about to take it out again!! Your videos are very helpful!
do NOT fly in wind higher that 20 MPH, the mini cannot handle it. i never fly with winds over 15. Remember winds on the ground are far different than winds aloft. Download the UAV forecast app and it will help you with determining weather conditions and if it is safe to fly or not. I have a video on my channel where I almost lost it on its maiden flight due to high winds suddenly coming up.
Hello. Thanks for your excellent video. While shooting in my church and wanting to get a vertical reveal from the floor to the organ, DJI wouldn't let me go higher than 15-20 feet. I was told that if I turned off the GPS, it would solve this problem and let me reach a higher altitude inside. Is this true? Thank you.
Watch the prop warping in the fly more combo case. A warped prop can cause the props to over spin and cause lift issues in flight. If you have one heed cautions especially when over water and rth immediately. I lost my drone because it was maxing out power to keep altitude and I lost peak power to stay hovering or in motion to go home. I was complacent and ignored them on launch thinking they would go away. Well they did but then popped back up. It lost altitide and sank. Water is a risk with drones period. Fly over land if uncertain of drone condition even with no cautions before flying over water. Also make sure props are secured inline with motors in case and don't get bent or you will need to hover fly to make sure no overspin or replace prop(s) in pairs.
Directly from the app, no, I have never heard of that being possible in any DJI app. However, if you have a jail broken iOS device or a rooted Android device, it may be possible to do such thing through tweaks.
A little FYI for you. When your screen recording for videos you can go into setting in your phone and make it where when you put your phone in silent it won’t send notifications to the top
Hey Carson I asked you in another video before but I want your opinion again on whether the mavic mini is a good beginners drone cuz I'm also seeing the spark, mavic pro and phantom are also good options?

This drone still worth it for a beginner? Thanks
Nice informative video
Great video. Thank you. I just got the mini today. I've never flown a drone so I'm very interested in your information.
I have one and this is a great video 👍
I never had a drone before but I just got the mini. Is their a way to move the camera while it's hovering in one spot ?
Do you know if you can change the font color in the DJI fly app? I can't read the battery percentage at all. great video and very helpful
Directly from the app, no, I have never heard of that being possible in any DJI app. However, if you have a jail broken iOS device or a rooted Android device, it may be possible to do such thing through tweaks.
Thank you explain & show how every well
hi sir, may i asked you why my controller always beeping sound reslly annoying, can u suggest a resolution please 🙏tq
Please make a video about which one to buy in 2020 DJI spark or mavic mini.
I just buy it and I will use these settings!!
Does the Mini work with the Samsung Android Phone?
Would your recommend the Mavic Mini for a beginner? I live in a high populated city so I don’t know how the WIFI would be. I’m thinking of MA2 because of OCCUSYNC because of this issue.
