July 1970, FSB Mary Ann, Vietnam, A Co. 1/46th Infantry was having a bad time out in the bush, with several casualties, when somebody broke in on the radio, saying "3-6 Whiskey, this is for you," and played this song. I will NEVER forget it. It moves me to tears even today.
Art sings like an angel and then he ends with power. There will be another duo like Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Mahalo for this timeless masterpiece.
This was my mom's favorite song of all time. Just before she passed away, we (my 3 siblings and I) were at her bedside. We wanted to let her know it was ok to let go. I pulled up Bridge on my phone and played it for her. When it ended, she whispered, "Again." After the song ended the second time, I leaned in, kissed her on the forehead and whispered, "Sail on silver girl... All your dreams are on the way..." She passed a minute later. I can't ever listen to the song now without crying. Crying right now in fact. But they're lovely bittersweet tears remembering the moment. I was holding my mom's hand the whole time and I can still feel her hand in mine. I'd love to thank Paul Simon for writing the song and Art Garfunkul for his hauntingly beautiful vocals.
Such a beautiful life story inspired by a stunning song. Brought me to tears. God bless your heart and soul, and may your mom rest in peace. ✌💛🙏 from across 'the pond'!
To comfort my dying sister I played this song, we have both loved listening to Simon and Garfunkel since our teens, it calmed her ,she smiled and pattered her hand to the music. Now when I hear this song I feel at peace with her passing. Rip Dottie
I have a younger sister that was going through her teenage to young women phase. She knew I was always there for her. She was very shy. She admired me and wanted to be like me. It was kind of like she stood behind me watching and learning. One night we were at a club and I was watching her dance. She had very long blond hair and the spotlight shining on it made it look silver. As she danced I thought about the song and the last verse. With a tears in my eye I thought " Sail on silver girl sail on buy", as in coming out from behind me. "Your time has come to shine all your dreams are on there way" she didn't need to hide behind me anymore but if she needed me I would be sailing right behind. This has been our song and her daughter feels the song also fits her and me because she knows she can always depend on me to be there for her.

Paul Simon is one of the greatest song writers of the 20th Century. But I have to say, I respect him immensely for knowing to let Art Garfunkel sing it. He openly states that he felt (at the time) that it was the best thing he had ever written and yet he let Art sing it. THAT is real class in my opinion. The version of this song in The Concert in Central Park is beyond legendary. But then again, that entire concert is legendary.
@@suehaden6103 I have never listened to a solo Garfunkel concert so maybe those are what you have in mind, but I've listened to most every S&G concert that's available on the internet and Art always, Always finds a chance to mention that all the songs are written by Paul.
I’m glad that Paul Simon decided to have Art sing it. It truly is one of my favourite ever. Paul as the writer and Art’s voice was the best partnership in making beautiful music!
I've often thought of this song especially after my husband died of Covid. Whenever I felt afraid because of being alone; it was like the Lord Jesus was singing it to me. It brought comfort to me.
Why do you stand at my grave and weep ? I am not there , I do not sleep . I am healthy , well and strong , Here in GOD'S Heaven I can do no wrong . So do not stand at my grave and cry , I am not there , I did not die . And come what may , We'll meet again some sunny day ❤
That is so true. I don’t listen to much modern music. Too much banging and clanging. Like they are trying to drown out the sorrows of this world instead of accepting and embracing them! I can’t even think when the junk of today comes on. I just got hooked on Adagio in G minor and of course there nothing more powerful than listening to Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma! And THIS that Mr. Simon gave so little credit to is a masterpiece that touches the soul.
Sure we do, it’s out there…you just have be in touch with things, radio won’t bring songs to you like it use to. Ever heard of these guys…they remind me of Simon and Garfunkel….Kings of Convenience, they are from Norway…have great harmonies. ua-cam.com/video/c-ppARtcQfo/v-deo.html
We are so privkedged to have lived in this time. I’m 72 so I lived thru it. These guys, James Taylor, Beatles, Stones, Animals, CSN & Y, just in & on & on. & on. Every days was like Christmas w/all the new music. Look at. Eric Clapton! How many bands was he in? Like 10!! Oh brother, never again, not like the BLATHER being spit out now. No sir, give me the 60’s & 70’s!!!

I’m 69 and remember listening to the radio on my little transistor radio all summer. So many great hits and plenty of one hit wonders and all types of styles. There was no better time than the music revolution! I like how Paul was shocked that it came out of nowhere. Artie, et al, were right - it needed a 3rd verse.❤🎶
This was our wedding song in 1970. Family and friends thought that it was a strange choice, but my wife and I never questioned it. Over the years, whenever we would hear it, we would stop to listen. At least one of us would fill up. I lost my wife one year ago, and this now has a new poignancy for me. God blessed us throughout our lives with this truly inspired song.
I'm so sorry but I love this song and I'm glad you both shared it. I can't imagine what you've been through but I hope in time this very special song can become a source of comfort or of happy memories. You're part of a huge community of people who have a connection with this song for one reason or another, I hope it still means everything to you.
You have my condolences and my congratulations. That may sound weird, but if you have a love like that for over 50 years, you were blessed. Hang in there! Love lives in your heart!
When a musical genius and one of our generational poets says "it was better than I usually write" what do we call that? Does English have words to describe something better than genius?
This is the most religious song I have ever heard. Played at my mother-in-laws funeral, because she was a silver girl and very protective of her family. To this day, I picture her singing this to us from heaven.
My mother wanted this played at her memorial in 1997. I get very emotional every time I hear it. Art has the voice of an angel. And Paul is sheer genius.
Bridge over Troubled Water has to be one of the most beautiful Songs I’ve ever had the privilege to hear. Art Garfunkel’s voice was Amazing. Paul Simon a genius. Art’s voice! OH My!! A timeless wonderful song!!
This song got me thru the recovery of being a child of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. That and, I am an island. It saved me and helped me continue to have compassion. It helped me be willing to be a mother. I can't explain how strongly it resonated with me in the late 80s. It was the warmth I needed when I was alone in foster care. It makes me cry to this day because it was my life. I was the one that was there for everyone but no one was there for me. It's taken 50 years, but my wounded child's soul has healed and I have a small wonderful family that I love deeply. Thank you for this wonderful gift at a time when I needed it.
I always loved that song too. It could be one of being tears to my eyes, sobbing or of Hope & Acceptance. This world has so much evil, rude, disrespectful, hateful people in it today, I just want "Peace & Freedom".
I’ve always loved this song but it means so much more to me now. I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress from 24 years as a professional firefighter. The words resonate with me as I’ve had help and am now helping other firefighters get over that bridge.
People often forget what Firefighters go through out there while saving people. I believe 100% that you guys are some of the true heroes out there. I think you are selfless for being a firefighter. I can only imagine what you've seen and would never want to. Thank you so much for your service to people. God Bless!
Adding my own story: This was my grandmother's favorite song. When she was in hospice, I left long enough to go buy the greatest hits CD, and she, too, was able to leave this world accompanied by this amazing and beautiful song. It will always make me cry. Sail on, silver girl.
When my mother passed, I was living about 8 hours from where she was, I had gone home to clean up and get fresh clothes. As I arrived home, the phone rang, my sister told me she was gone. I was alone in the house. I turned on the stereo and pressed play... Mother and Child reunion started playing and I sat alone in one of the most moving moments of my life. Yeah, Paul has a gift. Artie too.
@@larrystevens7410 That's a wonderful song too! I'm sorry you couldn't be there with her when she passed but maybe she was sending you a message with that some coming on. 🙂
@@InfoArtistJKatTheGoodInfoCafe only Jesus fits this song...our bridge over troubled waters, and I am born a Jew taught to reject Him, now my best friend, and savior from sin, and sleep in peace now...John chapters 4 and 10 from gospel piano as said in the video
This is NOT a little hymn, Paul. It is an anthem. And a work of true art. Thank you 🙏🏻 for putting these words and music together for generations to hear, feel and connect to something much bigger than ourselves.
Yes!! I always got that from this song too! Lyrics like: "I'll take your part" as Jesus took our punishment. And "Like a bridge..." as Jesus is our only bridge to Father God in Heaven. And "I will lay me down..." as Jesus did on the cross! It gives me chills, especially when I hear Paul say that he has no idea where those words came from! Well... I have an idea. 🙂
Also, the part where they talk about the title first being incorrectly called, "Like a pitcher of water." As soon as I heard that, my first thought was how Jesus said he was to be poured out for us, like it was prophesied in the Psalms: "I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me." - Psalms 22:14
I was fortunate to be in my late teens when the song came out and like most of us teenagers - we knew this song was magical and that it would be a big hit, I am now 70 years of age and I still sing it to myself when walking in the hills in my beautiful Scotland! The singing, the piano etc was just fantastic, even my Grand children sing this song, they as a group were as famous as the Beatles back then! Sending love to you guys! Great job!
As much as I view UA-cam every day, this is my very first comment. I was a very introverted 15 year old girl who felt very left out of life when I first heard this song on the radio and it became my song. I bought the LP and played it over and over on Daddy's stereo at night gazing out into the night. I wanted to be a Silver Girl with somebody following behind me. BOTW followed me all my life and never lost it's power over me as my soul song. Other songs came and had their day and went, yet this one stayed with me. Now I am nearly 66, and they can play it at my funeral. Paul thanks so much for writing Bridge Over Troubled Water and submitting it. It has had a lifetime effect on this one little girl!..... Linda
Dear Linda. Thank you for your story it touched me. I was born in March 1963 so I am now 61 this is also my very favourite song of all time. Tony in Portsmouth England.
At that same time, my grandfather died. I was very close with him. This song played on the radio in the limo on the way to his funeral. I was inconsolable. This song always reminds me of that day.
Pam Mumford I am 54 and recently lost my 81 year old father who introduced me to S&G when I was a young girl. As I layed with him and held his hand In His final hours, I too played this song....it is a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics...and even though i had literally not thought about or listened to the song in many years, that is the song I played and will forever hold dear in my heart......
My husband bought me this album when we first met, because we we both loved this song. I played it at his funeral 41 years later. His headstone has the phrase " like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down"❤
Thank you Paul and Art for this absolutely breathtaking song. It is among the best songs in the world and my personal favorite. Thank you for writing and singing and sharing your work with us. We will be eternally grateful and are blessed to have had both of you in our life. ❤️🙏🏻
..."I'm sailing right behind.." That one gets me every time. Imagine you're on a perilous, stormy sea, but, fear not, I'm right behind you. It's the song of loving support. Only what makes life even possible on Earth.
It's a pity the very next words are "like a bridge...." Talk about mixed metaphors: it's almost as if they bought them by the bucketload and threw them at the melody and kept what stuck!
First time I remember hearing the song, was riding back home with My Grandfather on a Country Road, after visiting an Uncles Dairy Farm. My Grandfather was about 70, and He liked Simon and Garfunkel and played them loud in His 66 Plymouth Fury! I always liked Simon and Garfunkel myself as well!

I"ve always been an encourager even in the dark times because of moments like Bridge Over Troubled Water when 8- it put something in me that was missing--it gave me hope. I have been unapologetically in love with Bridge Over Troubled Water since I was a very young woman. I still weep when I hear it. It touches my life experiences, hopes dreams and prayers. I am decades past being that young woman and I pray that I am never too advanced in years to feel my heart yearning and to cry.
I believe God gave this song to Paul because he knew a lot of people needed to hear it. And still need to today. And he had Art to sing it, which was maybe the only man who could.
Rolling Stone magazine called it perfect. And perfectly arranged and recorded. It is stunning. I love the way Paul expresses himself......thoughtfully, deliberatively, and with no hype.
When I had a chance to call in into the hospital where my father was passing, I played this and told him he was always my bridge over troubled water, and how knowing he was there, allowed me to be very brave in the world.
That's so beautiful - you brought tears to my eyes. I've been a musician for almost 40 years and I STILL marvel at the way music connects so deeply to our emotions...to our souls even.
I have always felt that this song was a message from God and Jesus and have always obtained such comfort from it. It is wonderful to hear that it does seem to be divinely inspired. We were on a trip to DC a few years ago over Memorial Day and walking by the Capitol. Suddenly we heard the song! Art Garfunkel was practicing the song for the evening’s concert. Breathtaking and magical - we were so fortunate to be there. I will never forget it; we still talk about how beautiful it was. Thank you both. What teamwork.
I agree. There was a solemnity to the entire experience and the gospel music influence and simple lyrics just go straight for the heart. It's like an expression of agape love, a beginning of a description. What if Christian musicians after it was released closed the circle by adopting the song back into expressions of Christ-like love to others (I feel South-Korean singer, Sohyang, seemingly did in her version, though more musically bombastic).
"When you're down and out, when you're on the street my Lord, when evening falls, so hard, I will comfort you". Love this song, one of the best written songs, ever. The world needs more of this today.
Yeah, that's not how the song goes. Nothing about your imaginary god in there at all. The song is about friends supporting friends, not relying on fake deities.

eddiewhaler, sorry for your loss. But I totally agree with you. This song is very powerful and when a song like this gets tied to something very personal to you, it causes it to become even moreso. I have found that being able to find songs such as this that you can latch onto can also help you to first be able to deal with, and then able to remember with such emotion that it will be a part of you for the rest of your life.
Larry Knechtel's piano on this took the song to the next level. It set the stage for the entire recording. His work with BREAD also made them a better band when he joined them! RIP LK!
Absolutely. It was Larry Knechtel's piano work that made this song a masterpiece, and he deserved to have songwriting credit for this unique and stunning contribution. Art Garfunkel also had a lot of input into things as well.
Yeah! It already had a great master plan with Paul’s genius, then you add the piano part and it took it up a level! But then when Artie sang it, it went up even more!
It’s amazing how many songs The Wrecking Crew, of which Larry was a member, took to the next level due to those studio musicians’ skill and creativity.

I was maybe 12 years old at the time. My father had just recently killed himself. This song lifted me up so many times when I was down that I don’t know what I would have done without it. I had no idea how magical the music was at that time because I was too young to have any other reference. Paul Simon was young too. How did he do it? It’s nice to see he had a team of believers.
Respects for making it through such a raw situation at such a young age. That has to be one of the hardest things to learn to accept as real. To me, this song is the audio equivalent of a feather duvet with a fleece cover on a cold night. You can wrap it around yourself. For a little bit, you can feel safe and protected, snuggled deep and warm in the music. It carries some of the pain with it's last fading notes. We still have the same problems as 5 minutes before, just a little bit easier to carry. Music is as close to magic as us mere muggles can preform.
tomcoryell : I'm sorry for the pain of losing your parent at such an age that must be been too much to make sense out of. If it wasn't for music, I'd have either gone nuts or not be here now. It's true how music can quiet the soul. Thanks for sharing and Bless you.
In the 6th grade I'd stay after school to listen to my teacher's record, Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Every song. Then he'd give me a ride home. Such a wonderful person. He knew I needed to hear something in it. Thanks, Tom Armstrong.
I grew up with my mother playing this song and album every morning as I would sit in front of the heater while I ate breakfast before I had to go to elementary school. I played it at my wedding and it was the music that I put my parents montage to when my father was dying of cancer. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. It holds a very special place in my heart.
I agree with you Diane this catastrophe called War , illnesses pandemics and so many other injustices we hope it will just stop so people have a chance to breathe wholeheartedly and appreciate each other and what we can have on Earth and make it a reality for everybody
Paul.....those are not simple lyrics! They apply to many of us, but we could never find those words. Without a songwriter, there can be no song. You are a treasure.
To me, this song is the modern day equivalent of Amazing Grace. It just has a kind of universal resonance and spiritual affirmation which is incredibly rare in music, or any in art form for that matter.
You have no idea how many times those well connected words and music, have helped me through very hard times. No drugs, no alcohol issues. Just struggling to go foward in the calling on my life before God. I opened my truck door and sat down exhausted and without friend or family to comfort me..there, on my truck radio.."when you're weary, feeling small, when tears come down your face ,I will dry them all".. ❤Hallelu Yah

And here I am tonight, brought up on this music, as an 80's child and only recently a couple years ago, truly understanding it's meaning - this song became my Anthem - was like GOD speaking to me in every word, to this very day.... I listen to this song daily just to hear GOD speak to me, through their voices; victory and overcoming into my life. I knew this had to be a GOD given song, and tonight (Tuesday 14th Jan 2024) it was confirmed by this video that it truly was, not only for me, but for the artists GOD gave the song too to share and speak to the world. I picture GOD using them, in every word, especially that last verse that seals it. When GOD does something, it never fades, it lives on forever for all the world to know HE IS SUPREME and beyond in everyway. Thank you LORD JESUS for the amazing artists and for YOU ALWAYS 🙇🏽♀️🙏🏽🙌🏽🥰
I first heard this immortal song in the early 70s in Poland. I did not understand the lyrics then but that boyish voice of Art was all I needed. It was an anthem of a far-away civilization but somehow it took me in. Thank you, guys.
God looked down at the Earth on that day and smiled, called Gabriel over and said, hey Gabe, won't you go down and whisper these words into that young mans ears. Us and Him have been enjoying it ever since.
This was the first song I heard that had an instant impact upon me, and it has stayed with me for nearly 60 years and counting. The music, the words, and today still counts as one of the most significant songs of the 20th century. It's still among my favourites. One of the very few songs, where each word carries depth ,and weight.
I was 9 years old when this record came out. I heard the vocals, especially Art Garfunkels and thought "That is what angels sound like when they sing in heaven" I have no idea why I thought that but the thought stuck with me for all these years.
I think God knew the world needed this song. He sent it to us through a greatly talented and slightly bewildered musician. They say He works in mysterious ways.
The last years of my Dad's life were very challenging after my Mom passed away. He was lonely, and for whatever reason, the other family members, although I truly believe they had a great love for him, hardly ever made time to call or visit. During those years, a day never went by that we didn't talk on the phone, nor did a weekend ever pass that I didn't visit. One time we were driving to our favorite restaurant when Bridge Over troubled Waters came on the radio. When it ended, my Dad told me it was his favorite song and that I was his Bridge Over Troubled Waters. It was a lovely compliment, and now, all these years later, whenever I hear it, I always think of my Dad. We were great friends!
An admirable display of everyone giving credit to one another for the various aspects of the recording. Can't believe Paul didn't want to write the third verse--it brings everything together so beautifully.
The simplicity of the lyrics is the genius of it. Writing complicated lyrics is easy. Saying something in a new way, simply, is what makes great songs great songs.
I can't express how much this song means to me. 15 years old, lying in a side room by the kitchen, a large speaker by each ear, cocooning myself in this song for hours. Thank you. It got me through some tough times, as I'm sure many people have similar stories. The song is like magic.
That's because it was about God and His faithfulness that the floods would not overwhelm us and He will bring us through the fire. This came quickly out of nowhere, because it was from God, not self.
I read something about an interview with Paul Somon and they asked him why he kept Art around because he, Paul, could sing and play. And Paul replied, "Art sings the songs like I hear them sung in my mind".. I thought that was brilliant!
I was fortunate enough to see the boys perform in concert back in 2003. When Artie stood at the edge of the stage, and sang this song, it was like magic.

I am healthy , well and strong ,
Here in GOD'S Heaven I can do no wrong .
So do not stand at my grave and cry ,
I am not there , I did not die .
And come what may ,
We'll meet again some sunny day ❤
They just don't have artists like this anymore. These are two of the greats. This era of music can never be replaced, and never ever topped.
Gosh so true!!!
Sure we do.. but many don't make it past 27 years old. :/
Amen
Cream , Jimi Hendrix Experience , Hollies , Moody Blues , Joni Mitchell , Yardbirds , 5th Dimension , Seekers , The Who , Beachboys , Chicago , Bob Dylan , Traffic , Mamas and Papas, Doors , Byrds.......Lovin Spoonful......DC 5 and many more NOT TO FORGET MOTOWN.
Paul Simon is easily among the most talented songwriters of a generation. ❤️
When a musical genius and one of our generational poets says "it was better than I usually write" what do we call that? Does English have words to describe something better than genius?
Of a lifetime 😊
It's an anthem about believing in a higher power in your life and making yourself available to be a higher power in someone else's life.
A troubled generation needed to hear these words, thus Paul was given the inspiration.
This is the most religious song I have ever heard. Played at my mother-in-laws funeral, because she was a silver girl and very protective of her family. To this day, I picture her singing this to us from heaven.
This song helped those of us that survived Vietnam and the 60's. 🌹💓😪 A song for it's day and time.

Bridge over troubled Water is a musical masterpiece !
Art Garfunkel was born to sing this musical poetry by Paul.
Art was destined to sing this song
This song has possibly the best vocal performance I've ever heard.
My mother wanted this played at her memorial in 1997. I get very emotional every time I hear it. Art has the voice of an angel. And Paul is sheer genius.
This song saved my sanity after a horrific tragedy when I was 13 yrs old - Thank you Simon & Garfunkel 💞
Bridge over Troubled Water has to be one of the most beautiful Songs I’ve ever had the privilege to hear. Art Garfunkel’s voice was Amazing. Paul Simon a genius. Art’s voice! OH My!! A timeless wonderful song!!
God (understand that as you choose or know in your soul) is where those words first came to Paul. The music from the universe!❤
Just want to add what a glorious contribution these two have made.
May God have Mercy, Compassion and Blessings on you
May you have a happy life from now on, no one deserves what you had. All the very best xx
It's good you had a song.I had to have many songs to make it through. These songs were my substitute for what was missing.

That's the beauty of this song! It's simple, everyone knows it and everyone can sing it and be inspired or comforted.
Simon provides the song. Art the voice. And how they blend when they both sing... like a marriage in heaven.
Not just a song ...a hymn of hope ...brilliantly written and beautifully sung !
I always loved that song too. It could be one of being tears to my eyes, sobbing or of Hope & Acceptance. This world has so much evil, rude, disrespectful, hateful people in it today, I just want "Peace & Freedom".
One of their very best. ♥️

I’ve always loved this song but it means so much more to me now. I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress from 24 years as a professional firefighter. The words resonate with me as I’ve had help and am now helping other firefighters get over that bridge.

This is NOT a little hymn, Paul. It is an anthem. And a work of true art. Thank you 🙏🏻 for putting these words and music together for generations to hear, feel and connect to something much bigger than ourselves.
This song always seems like God comforting us, in our toughest moments.
Also, the part where they talk about the title first being incorrectly called, "Like a pitcher of water." As soon as I heard that, my first thought was how Jesus said he was to be poured out for us, like it was prophesied in the Psalms:
"I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me." - Psalms 22:14
@@jackweubanks so true
For me this song has nothing to do with God. But to each its own, right?
"I dedicate this to my bride. " , said Jesus.
Paul Simon is so talented, so modest, so calm, so deep, just delightful. Listening to this song is like listening to God sing.
Great job!

Me too
It's a "Humbling" song.
I did a large portrait of a woman’s face lying down in pinks a and magentas. I titled it SAIL ON SILVER GIRL AND ETCHED THE TITLE IN THE WORK.

I am now 67 years old and this song has been with me since I was a young teenager, Paul's song writing and Art's beautiful voice, just amazing.
Discovered S & G later in the late 1980s when in junior high. BOTW always moved me powerfully - that and America.
When this song was realised my dad was dying . Mum would lay on the bed holding his hand and listen to this song .
It still chokes me to this day .
pam munford That is beautiful.

At that same time, my grandfather died. I was very close with him. This song played on the radio in the limo on the way to his funeral. I was inconsolable. This song always reminds me of that day.
This comment made me cry. I associate certain songs with my mother and fathers death too. This was one of my mother’s favorite songs.
..."I'm sailing right behind.."
That one gets me every time.
Imagine you're on a perilous, stormy sea, but, fear not, I'm right behind you.
It's the song of loving support. Only what makes life even possible on Earth.
It's a pity the very next words are "like a bridge...."
Talk about mixed metaphors: it's almost as if they bought them by the bucketload and threw them at the melody and kept what stuck!
Truly one of the top five songs written in the last 50 years
Songwriting genius and vocal perfection, a masterpiece.
This is more than a song. It's an experience.
My Dad had a green 66 Plymouth Fury 4 door. I traveled alot of miles in the back of that car listening to the radio and choking on cigarette smoke...
That car was a beast. I love them, lol.
Both Paul and Art are great on their own, but the both of them together are just so much more. So many of their songs are just timeless.
So, what are we thinking now, 50+ years later? Top 10 all time? I still get chills.

Has to be top 10, right up there with Stairway to Heaven, Bohemiam Rhapsody too IMO

For a little bit, you can feel safe and protected, snuggled deep and warm in the music. It carries some of the pain with it's last fading notes. I think God knew the world needed this song. He sent it to us through a greatly talented and slightly bewildered musician. They say He works in mysterious ways.
Mysterious ways?? How does childhood famine, war, disease fit into your god’s mysterious ways? What a pile of 💩. Religion poisons everything.
❤
An admirable display of everyone giving credit to one another for the various aspects of the recording. Can't believe Paul didn't want to write the third verse--it brings everything together so beautifully.
As a record, yes. But I didn't think the third verse went with the other two. But it worked.
It would have been great to have Art Garfunkel’s input in this documentary. I wonder why they didn’t include him…. He is pivotal to the story.
@@craigpruess5565 HUH???
@@howie9751hird verse was forced. Should have as is
@@craigpruess5565 That's Art in the baseball cap, but it is hard to recognize him. ☺
The simplicity of the lyrics is the genius of it. Writing complicated lyrics is easy. Saying something in a new way, simply, is what makes great songs great songs.
All of their songs are my favorite songs. They were magical. So beautiful.
I can't express how much this song means to me. 15 years old, lying in a side room by the kitchen, a large speaker by each ear, cocooning myself in this song for hours. Thank you. It got me through some tough times, as I'm sure many people have similar stories.
The song is like magic.
Totally relate!
I used to do that with my speakers too! Great minds!
Yeah, brilliant. But only to non-songwriters. I mean songwriters often compose that way.
Thanks for sharing! I love ❤️ older musicians, artists, song writers, & real vocals. That song moves me everytime I hear it.
Simon had a very amateurish voice. Especially compared to Art G's magnificent one.
They work like glue they stick.
It takes a certain humility that Simon didn't otherwise possess to acknowledge that.
Many thanks to everyone involved in getting this song out into the world especially Paul and Art.🤗
I was fortunate enough to see the boys perform in concert back in 2003. When Artie stood at the edge of the stage, and sang this song, it was like magic.
I truly believe Paul's genius with this song was giving it to Art to sing., Multi-Grammy winner, including Song of The Year, 1971.
