I bought a brand new 1997 Civic DX hatch-the exact same car as this. What a sweet ride. Little motor was so rev happy and smooth! And it had the best shifter I ever used; smoother than my new 1972 MG, my new 1987 Z28 Camaro, my new 2005 Civic sedan, my new 2017 K24 Accord Coupe. (Yes, I’m old, lol). Love these videos. Recommend Evapo-Rust to remove rust from any rusty parts before painting. Drop it into a jar or bucket of the stuff, and rust will be gone in a few hours. Sand or use steel wool to knock off any remaining buildup.

Going from my B18C1 to a K20a2 and it's honestly feels like V6 torque with the 4 banger high RPM pull up top in the range! Chirping 3rd and 4th on the street and spinning through 4th to 80 in the rain. Open differential is not ideal though so don't forget an LSD! Building hondas is so fun!
As a die hard Honda enthusiast, I respect B series cars but K’s are just a whole another animal! I absolutely love the k20 in my RSX type s and it SCREAMS🤤

The B16B is my all time favorite Honda motor and it kills me to see you take it out of the CTR rep build you have been piecing together over the last year. Welp, do what you gata do. Note for the next project: find some cheap media sanding gun and some affordable medium (30-40 bucks should do the trick at harbor freight/princess auto for a 15 bucks gun and 20 lbs of idk what media). Put the car in a large tarp, bend the tarp walls upwards and prop them well, then put guards/wall all around, the walls falling inside of the tarp. So: any grain that shoots outside, hits the wall and then is collected on the tarp. Or better yet sew a tent out of cheap fabric. Take a cheap box fan (5 bucks on craigs/kijiji) blow air in, also blow air out with a filter on top of the fan to collect micro dust. A similar tent can work for painting. I know I painted my house molding in a room and I used such a system (blowing air into the room, blowing out on a window with a cheap 20x20 inch 3m house air filter). PS: you certainly got the respirator part down ;)

10:49 I wasn't going to type the tip but...Probably the easiest way to clean the bay is to section at a time, spray degreaser on it, scrub with a wet wheel brush, rinse the brush when it's too dirty, then rinse the section, repeat until clean.

I bought a bunch of yellow zinc 10.8 bolts from belmetric.com for my Miata engine bay to replace a bunch of old rusted silver bolts. Made a huge difference in engine bay appearance!
It’s so crazy watching this because I literally work a couple minutes away and I also bought an engine from jspec but it was a K20a. I never got to swap my DA since I ended up crashing it but it’s still nice to watch this video
Under hood looks ok cleared but doesn’t look “just like oem” as you said. You could have simply cleaned and cleared it if all you wanted was the glossy look.
I sway is the way to go. I’ve got a k24a2 in my 04 accord coupe and while it’s stock it’s a blast to drives- and surprisingly corners well (for what it is). Probably gonna drop a TSX motor in it and do some bolt ons, and lower it. Its got almost 300000Kms on it but it’s still running strong
I lost motivation doing my build, until I saw this, this is one of the cleanest and inexpensive builds I ever seen. Looking forward to refreshing my GSR EG
As long as you don't crack open the hydraulic lines on the master cylinder, you can remove the booster. It has it's own set of seals, and does not make contact with hydraulic fluid (unless the master cylinder is heavily worn, and it would require replacement at that point anyways)

It doesnt. But, I know Ben will also be doing other upgrades in the powertrain, such as a ceramic clutch, lightweight flywheel, limited slip differential, Urethane or Delrin mounts, etc... All of these will increase NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) and will take away from it's smooth driving characteristics as it had. I have actually driven this Civic, and it changed my opinion of Hondas of that era. Can't wait to meet up with Ben sometime this year and get an opportunity to drive it afterwards.
If he runs hard mounts, doesnt keep ac, runs a twin disk, doesnt have decent coilovers, or runs a 3" exhaust, uses race harnesses only, deletes the heater core, or runs a top mount shifter, it's not that it's not streetable, it's that you wouldnt want to use it to pick up paper towels at cvs or hit a drive through late at night. It just becomes an annoyance for normal life stuff.
Because of this series, I have lots of ambition to build my own older Honda.... Sad to see the B series motor go, but the K24 will definitely be more torquey. Love that more Honda stuff is on the channel!!

When did bolts start getting so much attention. The first time I heard of special bolts is tommyfyeah with his zinc coated bolts

As long as you don't crack open the hydraulic lines on the master cylinder, you can remove the booster. It has it's own set of seals, and does not make contact with hydraulic fluid (unless the master cylinder is heavily worn, and it would require replacement at that point anyways)

@@blazeclarke not having it removed didn't seem to mess up the job much anyway, so might as well not bleed the brakes if you can

It doesnt. But, I know Ben will also be doing other upgrades in the powertrain, such as a ceramic clutch, lightweight flywheel, limited slip differential, Urethane or Delrin mounts, etc... All of these will increase NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) and will take away from it's smooth driving characteristics as it had. I have actually driven this Civic, and it changed my opinion of Hondas of that era. Can't wait to meet up with Ben sometime this year and get an opportunity to drive it afterwards.
If he runs hard mounts, doesnt keep ac, runs a twin disk, doesnt have decent coilovers, or runs a 3" exhaust, uses race harnesses only, deletes the heater core, or runs a top mount shifter, it's not that it's not streetable, it's that you wouldnt want to use it to pick up paper towels at cvs or hit a drive through late at night. It just becomes an annoyance for normal life stuff.
ikr should be more streetable with the 6th speed compare the b16 5th on the highway, plus rhdkev drove his integra everywhere with his k24 k20 frank.
