    Add zoodles to your actual spaghetti haha otherwise, you're right. Could never be satisfied or get full off of just zoodles. So many people just look at a plate of food and if it looks large, they think it's a lot of food... Without considering how nutritionally adequate the plate is. I was once eating a large plate of pasta & beans with a huge side of tomato and cucumber salad.. And this dude was like "are you eating for three?".... Like bitch, this shit is like 500 calories max and half water. Lol.

    Haha you make a good point but still...I'm obsessed with zucchini noodles. It works out for me because I have a huge appetite and I could easily eat a whole package of pasta in one go. So I like to do half zoodles and half "real" pasta and it fills me up. I also love using zoodles as a substitute for salad greens just to make life more fun. ;)

      Nothing qrong with them if you know what you're getting but they are bad for making new vegans think they can't sustain themselves. I love things like this because I'd rather have a huge bowl of low calorie food with a rich protein source. 600 calorie meal that looks like it should be 1000 😍

      If you think she restricts, overloads, or does anything out of balance, take that up her doctor. I do not have her level of activity, so automatically eating exactly like she does just wouldn't make sense. We should be researching our chosen eating plans anyway, not just following someone. Complaining about someone else for how they eat seems pointless unless they are your parent, and they are forcing the same on you.

    Quote from comedian John Pinette "She wanted me to have salad as the food! No! Salad isn't food. Salad comes with the food. Salad is a promisary note that something good is
    going to happen... and I should just wait right here."
    Zoodles are a wonderful alternative but you still need to supply your body with sufficient calories at the end of the day. Combine them with other healthy foods and you'll be good to go.

    lol this is important. My dad tried going vegan a couple of times (before I even considered the lifestyle) and he always felt hungry because he was doing that raw bull shit. He wasn't eating enough calorie dense foods because "raw foods are always the best foods". He still restricts himself to this day and he even wakes up in the middle of the night to eat sugary cereals. The other day we were grocery shopping and he bought 11 boxes of cheese and pepperoni pizza. He's not satiated eating meat, and he's not satiated eating plants, so maybe his calorie intake is too low. Now that I'm vegan, he's always like "are you getting enough nutrients because veganism is really calorie restrictive" it really upsets me. I eat more often than anyone else in my family I eat about 2,800 calories a day (I'm very active, that's why) but he still thinks plant based eating is starvation.

I started talking to him about why I went vegan (because he asked) in the health and environmental aspect (he doesn't care about ethics) and he surprisingly agreed with a lot of what I was saying. He's given up milk and he's aware of the dangers of consuming cheese but he still snacks on it, but I think he'll give that up eventually. I believe he's taking baby steps :).

      There is NOTHING wrong with gluten, unless you have coeliac disease, which only very few people do. I know someone who does, she's my sister's friend from school. Once, in the 1980s, she slept over at our house, and she had her own bread. Those were just corn wafers that looked like what we were giving our hamster as a treat at the time. :-( I'm so glad that there is PROPER gluten free bread available now because some people really need it. In fact, I've tried a leftover gluten free bread, and I must order it again (they only do it by order now), because it was honestly delicious!

    I agree about the whole zucchini noodle trend. Raw zucchini doesn't really appeal to me anyway, but I tried it. It's definitely not enough, unless you make a more calorie dense sauce. People could mix it half and half with regular noodles to reduce the calorie load, while still getting lots of fiber, nutrients, and improved satisfaction, if weight loss is the goal.

    Hey, To help prove your point on 5:19: I've been eating normally until I was full for about 9 months now. I never "dieted" I just ate when I was hungry, just replaced all my food with Vegan food. I'd even snack on chips once in awhile.
    Now I am up to 70lbs lost. It's quite literally the easiest diet. So anyone asking if they should cut calories? Don't even bother. Just eat until you are full. Our bodies were designed this way to eat until we were full.

    It's good to hear from your side of view and for you to let other people know the benefit and the downside of zoodles. I'm on this weight loss journey right now, and I am a big fan of noodles, espeially ramen. So I am trying to eat on a healthier path by, for example eating Zoodles instead of pasta, and brown rice instead of white. Naturally, coming from an asian family, we make a lot of side dishes. So I could definetly incorporate fishes and veggies to get to that fullness.

    Thank you very much for the advice on how to bump up the caloric content of vegan meals. I'm in the transition phase, and this is extremely helpful for preventing the most common roadblocks from happening in the first place. You may hate zoodles, but I'm still excited to have a new spiralizer, because (baked) sweet potato curly fries. :) I'm also big on texture in my food, so it's nice to have extra variety, color, and texture options.

No effort, just all plant based, and exercise! I am my goal healthy BMI weight, AND more important reversed my deadly CHF heart disease (my daddy was not sooo fortunate in 1983 @ age 58 he died from this - but then again no one was educated enough, we were all sooo ignorant to tell him to go all plant based - even his doctors - they did know this: nothing but oh, ya horrible pharma!) I almost did not know how to reverse my own heart disease (not many cardiologists know how to do this) but I prayed to the L-rd for help and he sent me my dear Dr. Panni, et al., - Praise G-d! I did not listen at first when he kept after me to go plant based. I finally did it, and wow, I am good - I see him in April and he will be soooo happy.

    If you are grating veggies as components of a salad, grated raw vegetables or cooked ones, add texture and flavor. I use leftover cooked vegetables in my salads. Even sliced cold yams works too. But then there are things you can add to salad which give is the staying power to make it from one meal to the next. If you put salad in the center of your plate then make quesadillas stuffed with cooked rice and refried beans, add taco seasoning if you don't know your mixture of spices. It is good, the plate looks fun to eat. 2 tortillas make 6 wedged, even add a sprinkle of vegan grated cheese. Use salsa as your dressing for the salad. Eat with a half of an ear of cooked corn. This is one of our favorite meals.
    Adding grated veggies to a stir-fry (I use vegetable broth and no oil), put over brown rice with grilled tofu seasoned with poultry seasoning and garlic with soy sauce. If you add the twirly grated veggies slightly steamed as a garnish is good as when I do my stir-fry, I also add mushrooms and bean sprouts. I add cooked sliced yams to my stir-fry as it adds a bit of sweetness. Sometimes I add some Boca original turk'y burger crumbles. It is satisfying but does not make me gain weight. My husband who never thought he could do without meat, eats all of it and feels good and his appetite is satisfied.
    No, zucchini is not a substitute for pasta.

      Nearly any fruit is way higher in calories than zucchini, so I vehemently disagree.
      (*the following doesnt really implicate the point you made*) Nevertheless, the point is that you should know you are eating enough calories, regardless of the volume you eat or whether you get cravings. A lot of people can't 'trust their body', since many of us have huge issues with their body image, bodily satisfaction, or personal standards. I don't agree with counting calories regularly, but when developing a standard for how much or how many calories you tend to eat, it's much better to set a healthy calorie threshold than to allow potential changes in mental health to warp the way you see things.

  • @lizhillbrand7692
    @lizhillbrand7692 6 років тому +4

    For once I disagree with you Mic. Considering the overweight to obese percentage of people in the US and the fact that most people eat 400 extra calories a day beyond their needs, I think substituting 50 calories of zoodles in place of 400+ calories of pasta ( which isn't all that nutrient rich especially white noodles) would be a step in the right direction. no they don't taste like regular pasta, but if you put a good tasting sauce on top with mushrooms and garlic you might like them just fine. Who really eats the pasta plain for the taste of it anyway?

    • @Ben-fr8gi
      @Ben-fr8gi 6 років тому +4

      Most people in the US aren't vegans though, and studies I've seen found vegans have less issues with weight than average. People around their ideal weight don't need to cut calories, they need to maintain their weight. It depends on someone's situation really.

    First of all, zuchinni is a fruit not a veggie. Secondly, society's obsession with protein is just as annoying and distracting as its obsession with calories. I'm sorry Mic, but you're only looking at this from one angle. Zucchini may not have a lot of calories, but what about its effect on the body? What about its electromagnetic energy? What about its detoxifying effects? Nutrient content? Biophoton levels? Just because something doesn't have a lot of calories doesn't mean it isn't a viable food. I know you didn't necessarily say that, but that is how people will interpret it. I eat zuchinni pasta all the time and I never have a problem getting full because I make avocado sauces or a raw marinara to put on it, and I also put lots of tomato chunks, squash, and greens in the pasta so the whole meal ends up being a huge bowl containing around 500 to 600 calories, not that it matters in my opinion. I eat a fruitarian diet, I don't count calories, and I have a healthy body weight. People who are new to vegan diets are usually very receptive to zucchini pastas because they are a fun spin on something they are familiar with, and so much better for you than regular pasta, which is awful for you

    • @aiya2323
      @aiya2323 6 років тому +15

      first of all, I feel like you didn't get his message. he is not saying Zucchinis are bad and never eat them. He is just saying don't eat Zucchini as the main base of your meal. you have to eat something calorie dense like rice, potatoes etc. Secondly, fruit, veggies, are all labels made by men. who cares, its all plants. if this was a Botany vid sure but its a video about proper vegan diet. your comment towards this video is not logically sound.

    • @deepakhiranandani6488
      @deepakhiranandani6488 5 років тому +2

      Yes, Amber C. No one is saying one shouldn't eat zucchini, but it shouldn't replace the substantial complex carbohydrate (and other nutrients rich) food. In fact it needn't even be gluten rich if that's an issue, Mic mentioned brown rice. Potato, sweet potato, quinoa, millets, wild rice, brown rice, any of these could replace the noodles or spaghetti.

      Helen Kolousek A lot of people do say that, usually in the raw vegan community or the low-carb crowd. Replacing calorically dense food with calorically void food is very dangerous.
      And yes, we all have slightly to drastically different caloric needs, but 2,000 is the average that's needed for most people to ensure they're meeting their energy and nutritional needs (assuming they're eating a somewhat healthy diet). Actually, if a quarter or more of the population has access to less than 2,100 calories per day, that nation is said to be experiencing a famine.
