i think it's kind of poetic how Java is Deaf in one ear - she's almost representative of their relationship! half Deaf, half hearing, and full of love :)
tip for training down: if she stands back up while you are grabbing a treat, dont treat her. tell her to go back down and only give her a treat while shes down, common mistake.
@Luc if you only treat during the appropriate action(not before or after), the trainee will learn fastest this way. If you say "down", then treat late during the sit...the puppy will start to associate the word "down" with the incorrect action of *sitting* because that is when it receives the treat. Even if in the long run the dogs gets it right, it can be an needlessly longer process sometimes confusing the dog and frustrating the trainer. In this case they all seem to be doing fine and very patient. For those with less patience, treating at the correct-exact action will cause less-zero confusion for the trainee and therefor a shorter easier process overall.
At first you do want to treat. You actually want to treat for almost ANY movement towards what you've told them to do. You then get more and more strict as quickly as the dog will handle. Some dogs learn that you want them all of the way down very quickly, and will lay right now, others will pop back up for a while, and you have to try some other little tricks.
dog training is based on verbal cue and gesture (sign language or just hand gesture), so that you can communicate even when you can t use your voice for various reasons 😉 of course they use sign language because that s what they are familiar with
@@destiny5730 it does not matter! a deaf person will use sign language anyway, even if the dog was not deaf. think about service dog for deaf people, they can t be deaf and they need to know how to interact with their handler
Eleonora Giannetti No, I'm saying the dog is partially deaf. So of she's laying on her hearing ear or they aren't speaking in the direction of the ear, they're going to sign. I'm also not sure what the exclamation point is for, hopefully I didn't offend? I'm always open to new information.
She's deaf in her left ear just like me! Deaf twins! You might find that she has problems localising you. So if you ever call her be aware of that - if you're letting her off the leash and she runs off and you want her to come back to you, its really important that you're always in her line of vision so she can use her eyes to make up for losing localisation ability. SO CUTE :D

I've just always used captions. And subtitles for shows/movies. I find it better in case I don't understand what a character said or even get a tidbit of background talking that isn't even important, and those tidbits are funny.
Its a good idea to have a marker "word." Like, as SOON as she does the command you are asking, you need to mark the behaviour. I can see that shes getting confused on what you ask her to do. A good one would be a thumbs up, again, you need to mark the behavior as SOON as she does it so she knows what shes doing right.
@@bunnybleh3175 A treat is NOT a marker. A marker marks the SECOND the good behavior is done, and THEN you reward at least a second later. If you're the fastest handler in the world, you're never going to be able to shove a treat into a dog's mouth within one second of the desired behavior. The marker word/signal marks the very second you liked what your dog did, and that gives you time to then hand over the treat/toy. It's proven to be more reliable, with faster learning times, than any other method on the planet. There's a reason it's used on everything, from tigers to dolphins. :)

its that but its also genetics that plays a vital role as well. for example, working german shepherds have a higher chance of stranger aggression than show german shepherds. why? that aggression is needed for their line of work and so the breeders select the best candidates to breed. same with pit bulls. most people own watered down versions of pit bulls. with pit bulls there stands a high chance of animal aggression due to 200 plus years of selective breeding. so yes, training plays a role but genetics overrides

aw, I have a deaf dogo argentino (basically is a all white pitbull) he’s the sweetest, and he understands little signs so great, we had him for about 4 years and got him around when he was 6 months. We didn’t know he was dead at first until we realized, he was a rescue by the way ☺️. I love watching your videos just because I like seeing the way you two conversate.
So cute! Keep socializing her with other people and other dogs (and other animals, if possible). And, continue to take and return her food. Pits are very sweet and they love to be around people. ... Just as there are seeing-eye dogs for the blind, there are Hearing -Service dogs for the hearing impaired ... and they know sign language, just like your puppy! In professional dog training, we regularly train dogs for voice cues, hand signals, and sometimes for different whistles or to follow where you look. If you get her to look at you, then you mouth the word, "Sit" and give the sign at the same time, then repeat and slowly stop doing the sign during training, you may be able to teach her to read lips! Dogs may not see detail well, but they can see small movements very well, so that may be something else to practice. Have fun!

Coming from no one in my family being deaf we learned just so we can help as well as speak to anyone who is . Love your videos guys! ♥️

I actually have a deaf dog too. He is a totally white boxer with tiny freckles under his coat. He knows many of the signs you showed when you were communicating with your puppy. It almost seems as if he can read our lips when we are talking to him, even though he can’t hear us. Oh well I just thought I would share, it seemed cool to see someone else have a dog with a similar condition to mine.
She has the same personality my dog has the same ears but not the same colour.LOVE y'all. Keep. Being awsome. Ellen you are sooo nice.you guys are the beet couple
People who believe that pitbulls are a dangerous breed need to watch this video. It's not the breed. Its the way the owners treat them. Such a smart pup!
If anybody is deaf but not blind and when the camera is not facing them then turn on the subtitles and you can learn sign language kinda as well! This helped me learn the basic sign language!
Those ears are ADORABLE!!!!! 😍😍I'm so glad that you are standing up for Pitbulls 10:30 I have one and he is the goofiest big eared giant that you will ever meet (he also apparently looks like Dobbie) It might also be a good idea to get an Easy Walk or some other type of harness so that she learns to walk the right way (without pulling) before she gets too much bigger. Your arms will thank you later 😀
happy birthday ryan!! thank you for teaching us and helping us learn how to sign and understand deaf culture and the community. I hope you have a great day and get to spend quality time with the people you love the most. 💜
I have taught my dog words but also signs (I’ve used BSL signs) because it’s good (especially when the training is started) to be able to help the dog understand by using both an action and the word! Also it’s good for long distance or when you need to communicate with your dog but it’s not appropriate to talk to them, like if you are having a discussion with your family and they are being crazy!
Loooove! I adopted a dog who was already 4 and didn't know any commands from his previous home. I taught him commands and used specific gestures and words because I wanted us to still be able to communicate if he ever became HOH (which he did in his senior years). I also taught him to use his nose to find his treats in my hand by having him pick a hand (in case he would need to rely on that...he did develop cataracts in his senior years as well). He definitely taught me many non verbal commands as well! I love seeing Java's progress. She's so smart and good! AND THOSE EARS 😍
if you hate putting holes in walls. Have you ever thought about those 3M hooks? They're not permanent and can be removed from the wall without leaving a mark. 3M also makes velcro attachments which can hold pretty good!
Someone has probably said this by now already, but Lowes allows dogs too! I used it for a place to teach my dog how to behave around new people and things. I think that's pretty common for both Lowes and Home Depot.
If its hard to eat in the morning you should definitely consider overnight oats. There's a million different varieties and recipes online but I prefer the fruit based ones the best. It's super healthy and filling and a good option if you can't find time to eat in the morning. You can make it at night or in the evening and let it refrigerate till morning, you don't have to cook the oats either, so it's a great option if you're super busy to cook. Also tip, always add the fruits in the morning since it'll get soggy if you let it soak overnight. Please stay healthy, your vlogs are amazing and you guys are doing absolutely fantastic ^^
When Ellen took Java's treat for a moment, Java looked at her like, "Hey, that is mine!" No aggression, just a look. She trusts you will give it back, like you said. She is very sweet! You all are so lucky! (I read body language in animals, too 😊)

16:40 when java runs after you is too adorable
ah this makes me feel so much better ! i recently got a pure white pitbull and i’ve noticed signs of him being deaf so i’m ready to train him with signals
Happy Birthday Ryan 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have a pit bull and he's 7 but honestly, he is just the biggest sweetest fattest baby ever😂
He loves meeting new people and he's just the best old man the only time I was ever sort of scared was because my brother was tickling me and I was screaming so he nipped both of us because he thought we were hurting each other 😂💙
Awe. She’s just like you guys 1/2 hearing and 1/2 deaf. The perfect pup for you.
She's not being bad. She just has too much energy and she's barking because she wants to play ❤️
She’s so smart and y’all are amazing parents! I train service dogs that learn both a verbal and hand sign. Takes so much patience 🐾
Do you by any chance train puppies for emotional support?
Must be tough for this dog, he has to ask himself this rhetorical question every time it sees ELLEN...Why would any REAL MAN cross dress in woman’s clothes? Oh and it’s no way that fairy beside Ellen is Deaf this is sad. #NonBiologicalWomenAlertForELLEN #DeafHOAX
@@sandyfritz9572 emotional support animals do not require any training they only need to physically be present to give the owner emotional support.
@@jizzypuff They might not require any specific training, but it's still a good idea, even if it's just something that will help the pet be calmer. (If that makes sense?)
Goodness Ryan is very handsome and Ellen is so beautiful. What a dynamic duo
I’ve been having such a bad day, this made me smile so much thank you to your beautiful little family❤️❤️
One of the he puppy training books I read suggested teaching commands with a word and a hand signal. It comes in handy in noisy environments to be able to communicate with my puppies.
that pitbull statement warmed my heart
Honestly pit bulls are one of the most underrated dogs out there! People always thing they are so scary and mean but they are the sweetest puppies ever! If they were to ever be mean it would be because they are scared. And that’s what any other dog would do too.
Her ears are gonna go crazy!!! She’s learning so fast :) I have a pit too, but I’ve never raised one from a baby stage😍
My parents have 3 pit bulls and they are just big babies. They love to sleep next to you, lay in your lap, and are overall so sweet. It’s how a dog is raised which makes them aggressive and mean. But Java is so cute! I’m looking into adopting a deaf dog and I’m so happy to see y’all got one and I love seeing her understand sign language
Pits are great dogs. I had a pit for over 16 years and he never bit anyone. It's all about showing them love. Also, Happy Birthday Ryan! Mine was Halloween. 🎂🎉🦂
They are all so perfect for each other
One of my dogs is deaf too! He was in training for be therapy dog, but he couldn’t pass first exams because he couldn’t hear. So we trained him as a therapy dog only for me and my ADHD but with sign language. He is so smart and he is doing good job. His character is perfect. Now he is 10 years old.
aw, I have a deaf dogo argentino (basically is a all white pitbull) he’s the sweetest, and he understands little signs so great, we had him for about 4 years and got him around when he was 6 months. We didn’t know he was dead at first until we realized, he was a rescue by the way ☺️. I love watching your videos just because I like seeing the way you two conversate.
It’s amazing how close they have become from now to then
I never really liked Pitbulls but this doggy is so cute. I wanna get one 😭💙
Have fun!
Ryan seems like the decoration expert :) you guys are amazing
A my god what a beautiful dog......we had a pit bull staffie, and totally agree...they are the gentlest dogs ever....and its all about respect and trust......java totally trusts you both...and the relationship is magical 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
I first started watching your channel a month ago and it wasn’t till today that I realized I could turn the captions on! I have just been reading his lips and studying some of the gestures
Literally the cutest pup everrrr
Pitbull puppies are the cutest puppies and no one can argue with me about that lol
Yesss, pitbulls are so sweet, it's all about training and positive support.💕
I love that you guys have a pitbull because like he said people tend to think that pitbulls are really aggressive but I have mainly only had pitbulls and they are truly the sweetest things ever I love them so much. Also java is so cute! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Java's ears ㅋㅋㅋ can't take my eyes off them. Cute!
Java is still adorable even if she has gotten bigger. 😊
On the side note, I love it when you couple do a project or build or fix something together.
Yes, I loved the coffee ☕ table project vlog!
I love that you guys are watching Grace & Frankie
Pitbulls we called nanny dogs. They are great with children because they protect. Java is so stinking cuute
I have two pit bulls. And they are the sweetest dogs ever. They are by far my favorite breed!
Someone could draw a fanart of the sign duo and it could be the painting on their wall!
I have a pocket pitbull, the ones that don’t grow! And I taught her signs non verbal so I don’t have to yell things when we’re out in public but we used sign language as well and we have met a couple people who are partially deaf and speak sign language and they have been able to communicate with her and their expressions were the best! Coming from no one in my family being deaf we learned just so we can help as well as speak to anyone who is . Love your videos guys! ♥️
When will the pup be in your title sequence?? Include her 😭🤣
Hope Ryan had a great birthday! Happy birthday. Love your videos. 🎈
Love the videos so much I’ve been learning ASL but sign PSE and I can say your videos helped a lot and got me to learn the rate and speed keep on the good work. The pup is getting so big.Much love to yaull from new york
My sister was afraid of pits and it took her husband to surprise her with a puppy and she adores her . Java reminds me of my sister's dog, spice is her name and she is 5 years old now and still the sweetest thing ever
*deaf... oops
Its adorable how she knows sign, my mom put my in charge of teaching our future dog tricks, have so many good ideas
Awwwwwww so blesse.i just see you guys on Facebook for the first time on here too
If anybody is deaf but not blind and when the camera is not facing them then turn on the subtitles and you can learn sign language kinda as well! This helped me learn the basic sign language!
Enjoyed watching this! My brother-in-law's birthday is tomorrow too. Java is adorable and is getting big and what a smart puppy.
Happy birthday Ryan have a wonderful day I hope you got the xbox xxx
happy birthday ryan!! thank you for teaching us and helping us learn how to sign and understand deaf culture and the community.
This is so cute. Im going to teach that to my dog too!! 🥺♥️
Magdalena Martinovic you should! It’s a great way to communicate if you are in a loud environment 😁
@@SignDuoChannel how old is she?
Pit bulls are wonderful! I have one, she helps me a lot. She’s one of sweetheart I ever met.
Someone has probably said this by now already, but Lowes allows dogs too! I used it for a place to teach my dog how to behave around new people and things. I think that's pretty common for both Lowes and Home Depot.
Natto! Takuan! Rice! Ume! Seaweed! Food that my kids and I love to eat too.. my kids eat natto anytime of the day 😂
#1 Pitties are terribly smart dogs and #2 Java is one spoiled dog 😋
It’s so amazing that your taught Java both English and sign commands! :)
Omg Java's adorable floppy ears my heart, Java is the perfect addition to your family 💙 Such a beautiful couple with an absolutely gorgeous doggie 💟
Such an cute dog!
Im loving that outfit. Super cuuute!
As soon as she showed her breakfast I knew that she’s Japanese because me too!!
Your so beautiful!
When Ellen took Java's treat for a moment, Java looked at her like, "Hey, that is mine!" No aggression, just a look. She trusts you will give it back, like you said. She is very sweet! You all are so lucky! (I read body language in animals, too 😊)
