i think it's kind of poetic how Java is Deaf in one ear - she's almost representative of their relationship! half Deaf, half hearing, and full of love :)
this comment is so wholesome i love it
I love this comment!
My favorite comment I have ever seen!!!!
Beautiful
Is it bad that I read pathetic not poetic?
Her ears are so stinking cute omg
Sarah Shae I know!! We love her personality! 🤟
I agree with yiu
Oh my gawsh she so cute
Sarah Shae they’re deceiving! They look like a non deaf dogs ears would if they’re hearing things. Wild
Sarah Shae.
you are so right
tip for training down: if she stands back up while you are grabbing a treat, dont treat her. tell her to go back down and only give her a treat while shes down, common mistake.
YES excellent tip!
@Luc if you only treat during the appropriate action(not before or after), the trainee will learn fastest this way. If you say "down", then treat late during the sit...the puppy will start to associate the word "down" with the incorrect action of *sitting* because that is when it receives the treat. Even if in the long run the dogs gets it right, it can be an needlessly longer process sometimes confusing the dog and frustrating the trainer. In this case they all seem to be doing fine and very patient. For those with less patience, treating at the correct-exact action will cause less-zero confusion for the trainee and therefor a shorter easier process overall.
@Luc standing up for the treat was not the right thing. Laying down for the treat was the right thing.
That’s what I was gonna say! The sweet puppy is just gonna learn to lay down then stand up.
At first you do want to treat. You actually want to treat for almost ANY movement towards what you've told them to do. You then get more and more strict as quickly as the dog will handle. Some dogs learn that you want them all of the way down very quickly, and will lay right now, others will pop back up for a while, and you have to try some other little tricks.
That's so cool seeing a dog respond to sign language. 😊
dog training is based on verbal cue and gesture (sign language or just hand gesture), so that you can communicate even when you can t use your voice for various reasons 😉 of course they use sign language because that s what they are familiar with
Eleonora Giannetti
I think also because the dog is deaf
@@destiny5730 it does not matter! a deaf person will use sign language anyway, even if the dog was not deaf. think about service dog for deaf people, they can t be deaf and they need to know how to interact with their handler
Eleonora Giannetti
No, I'm saying the dog is partially deaf. So of she's laying on her hearing ear or they aren't speaking in the direction of the ear, they're going to sign. I'm also not sure what the exclamation point is for, hopefully I didn't offend? I'm always open to new information.
@@destiny5730 oh that was obvious 😊 That is not the point of the comment I answered tho 😉 or did you want to answer to another comment?
She's deaf in her left ear just like me! Deaf twins! You might find that she has problems localising you. So if you ever call her be aware of that - if you're letting her off the leash and she runs off and you want her to come back to you, its really important that you're always in her line of vision so she can use her eyes to make up for losing localisation ability. SO CUTE :D
Wasn’t it her right ear?
@@dedgoldfish yes, it was her right ear
Toaster Its a simple mistake
im deaf in my left too xx
They mentioned that in their other video about the dog being deaf
The fact that I've got bronchitis and can't speak without coughing so much I've been signing whatever I know thanks to y'all and all these videos :)
Nikita SantaMaria wow! Guess sign came in useful to you! 🤟
@@SignDuoChannel Where do you get sign language emojis from?
Grace Augustin it’s a regular emoji on an iphone, it’s the only sign one
@@abby520 Ahh, gotcha.
Abby No it’s not, there are also some sign language letters in the emoji “alphabet,” such as ✊(S)🤞(R)✌️(V)👈(G)👌(O)☝️(D) and 🤙(Y).
Aw that means Java is really half of Ellen and half of Ryan. That’s so sweet.
can we just appreciate the fact that they remind us to turn the captions in the beginning of the video
ps. u guys r the cutest couple and ur dog is even cuter ❤️❤️
My friends always make fun of me for having captions on during videos but I always just have them on from watching these!
Aaisha Hassan True
I've just always used captions. And subtitles for shows/movies. I find it better in case I don't understand what a character said or even get a tidbit of background talking that isn't even important, and those tidbits are funny.
@@prestonrobertson4415 samee! I can hear and understand waaaay better with subtitles 😂😂
@@chocchipcookie2561 Woo
you’re gonna regret teaching her the friend trick, we taught my chocolate lab that trick and now every time we’re eating and he wants our food he puts his paw up to shake our hands so he can get something 😂
That's why God invented the "No Begging" command. :P
Patrycja Zdunek ME TOOOO
@@SilverFlame819 god didn't event that.
Our dog was not deaf, but my father trained him fully with hand signs. It worked very well. The dog responded better to the signals than actually voice commands!
17:51 The moment when Ellen had to discipline Java, but was devasted by her cuteness was so cute!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Java is GORGEOUS! Those eyes are absolutely stunning and she is SO smart! I'm impressed how quickly she learns things!!
Its a good idea to have a marker "word." Like, as SOON as she does the command you are asking, you need to mark the behaviour. I can see that shes getting confused on what you ask her to do. A good one would be a thumbs up, again, you need to mark the behavior as SOON as she does it so she knows what shes doing right.
That's what the treat is for
@@bunnybleh3175 you can't get the treat into the dog mouth as soon as they do the behaviour, its not physically possible
@@bunnybleh3175 A treat is NOT a marker. A marker marks the SECOND the good behavior is done, and THEN you reward at least a second later. If you're the fastest handler in the world, you're never going to be able to shove a treat into a dog's mouth within one second of the desired behavior. The marker word/signal marks the very second you liked what your dog did, and that gives you time to then hand over the treat/toy. It's proven to be more reliable, with faster learning times, than any other method on the planet. There's a reason it's used on everything, from tigers to dolphins. :)
The dislikes are the dogs who didn't get a new toy
wow nice place awwww Java you love daddy beautiful girl
My parents used to give me a Kong with some peanut butter in it when I was really little 🤔
Oh dear lmao
i'm sorry-
that's the way to raise a kid 😂
Oh im sorry
Rip
It’s actually easier for dogs to learn gestures/body language than verbal commands. Canines can’t speak (a language), so it makes sense. When we trained our dog, the class we took taught us the gestures that went along with the verbal command. Great job training ur pooch! 😍
#1 Pitties are terribly smart dogs and #2 Java is one spoiled dog 😋
ah this makes me feel so much better ! i recently got a pure white pitbull and i’ve noticed signs of him being deaf so i’m ready to train him with signals
9:40-9:45 is the stigma of Pitbulls. They can be the sweetest dog you can ever meet in your life.
Back when I had my Lab/Border Collie mix, I thought that it would be a good idea to train her to learn hand commands.
Boy, I'm glad that I did!
Three years before she died I sustained an injury that effected my speech, so those hand commands really were a good idea!
I hope your speech is improving and you are ok now CM
Pitbulls are freaking angels!
16:40 when java runs after you is too adorable
I used to volunteer at a local nursing home to hang out with this woman who spoke Spanish and she told me what she missed most was having dogs. I got my dog certified to visit the home and taught her signs so that any of the residents could communicate with her and they loved it! I'm sure I'm not using "proper" sign language for all of their commands but now I always train hand signals for dogs. Some seemed to learn faster that way too! (Also comes in handy for noisy environments!)
15:31 omg this little moments is so cute when you both look back to check up on her awww
10:30 pitbulls are the sweetest and dumbest dogs I've ever met 😂 I could literally push my pitbull (who was as tall as I was standing on hind legs) to the ground with my foot and he'd just roll over expecting belly rubs. They are great dogs and I love them to death 💜
I wouldn't call them dumb. I mean I've met dump pits but I've also met some ridiculously smart pits.
My friend's dog Emily was such a goof. She's to do this thing where she'd slowly put her paws in your lap, give you a legitimate hug (paws around your waist head on your chest) and before you know it you're sharing your chair with a 50 lb Pitbull. 🤦🏼♀️
@@ashleeknowlton5805 I call most dogs dumb because they're dopey cute babies. I know not all dogs are dumb. They're cute sot babies
Pitbulls we called nanny dogs. They are great with children because they protect. Java is so stinking cuute
imo a really critical part of dog training is giving the dog a super clear cue when they did the right thing, followed by a treat. if she can hear well enough, training clickers are great for this
Java is adorable! I've had my pittie Zoey since she was 9 weeks old! She will be 10 yrs next month! They are very loyal and protective souls! ✌💚🤘
That is one of the cutest and smartest dogs I have ever seen. I taught my dog using sign language so that if she can't hear me or is too far she understands what I am wanting her to do.
I am just like Java!!! I didn't realize that she was deaf in one ear. I am almost completely deaf in my right ear because I had such bad, chronic ear infections when I was a child to a point where the inner ear bones more or less calcified over into one piece.
Goodness Ryan is very handsome and Ellen is so beautiful. What a dynamic duo
I’ve been an interpreter for 30 years. I’ve had 2 dogs during that time. I signed with both of them. BOTH of these little shits - I would be halfway through the sign for “sit” and they LOOK AWAY. I say (in English) “you saw me, and you’re hearing”…
My sister was afraid of pits and it took her husband to surprise her with a puppy and she adores her . Java reminds me of my sister's dog, spice is her name and she is 5 years old now and still the sweetest thing ever
Pit bulls have a lot of energy, I have 2 rescues. I recommend daily walks and a lot of chasing around the yard, you chasing her or vice versa. I also recommend plenty of chewing toys because when she starts teething she will chew on everything.
and watch em when they get older because even though they grew up together, you still run the risk of them turning on each other. regardless of the owners input. be prepared to separate them around 12 months. some of them turn on early or late(3-5 years old) and some of them dont at all. be prepared at all times
They have too much energy. My dog is a year and half and hes nuts 24/7. Even after spending time in day care he still has alot of energy but daycare has helped a ton with his destructive behavior
@@Kelly101Girl as they should be. save your money on daycare just burn the shit out of his fast twitch fibers with some flirt pole, long walks, or a treadmill.
@adrianna exactly. it's common sense. pit bulls need more because they are a working dogs and were bred for high intensity combat activities. it's some stupid people in this world
I can agree with the chewing teeth because my puppy(pit bull of course) destroy one of my shoes, but he learned some things too such as when im running its play time and when i start walking he knows its time to stop which takes him a bit of time to understand but he gets it and hes just a very loving dog with a lot of energy.
It’s amazing how close they have become from now to then
Ellen is so pretty
Awe. She’s just like you guys 1/2 hearing and 1/2 deaf. The perfect pup for you.
What an adorable baby girl 😻 Dogs are very smart. And they actually react better to signs or moves anyways, even if they can hear. Visual just works better with them.
One of my dogs is deaf too! He was in training for be therapy dog, but he couldn’t pass first exams because he couldn’t hear. So we trained him as a therapy dog only for me and my ADHD but with sign language. He is so smart and he is doing good job. His character is perfect. Now he is 10 years old.
She’s so cute!! I totally agree that pitbullz seem scary to some people but are usually so sweet. I think the fear stems from the fact that their jaws can lock when they bite. Like you said, with good training and positive support, your puppy will be so nice and friendly!!
i really appreciate ryan’s comments about pitbulls! they really are the sweetest! dogs are just like humans. if you raise them in a negative environment, they’ll show negative behavior. but if you raise them in a happy loving environment, they’ll be so loving and sweet! it really is all about how you train them and how you behave around them!
My dad trained our family dog so he could communicate by hand gestures from pretty far away. It is a similiar method police dogs are trained with so they can communicate quietly and it was honestly impressive! Dogs don't care what you say or do for commands they can learn anything.
I love that you guys are watching Grace & Frankie
I have a pit bull, she is never mean or aggressive. Her favorite thing to do is play and nap! We got her one of those bones the other day and she got as far into it as she could in 10 minutes.
I have a pittie mix. We adopted her when she was 13 or 14 years old and she is just the sweetest dog. Enjoy Java!
any dog can be aggressive I think its the way that you raise them.
100%! I’ve met more aggressive chihuahuas than aggressive larger dogs. My sister almost got bit in the face by a chihuahua and my neighbors two chihuahuas came running at me on MY lawn! But I’ve met many pitbulls and they were big babies that wanted to curl up on my lap and love me
María C I work at a boarding and pet daycare facility and I promise you the little dogs act up way more then the larger breeds. Honestly our pit bulls are among the most chill and good dogs of the bunch.
Pitbulls are like baby all they want is to cuddle eat and sleep, but chihuahuas are aggressive and want to protect 😂 i have both the pitbull follows the chihuahua 😂
its that but its also genetics that plays a vital role as well. for example, working german shepherds have a higher chance of stranger aggression than show german shepherds. why? that aggression is needed for their line of work and so the breeders select the best candidates to breed. same with pit bulls. most people own watered down versions of pit bulls. with pit bulls there stands a high chance of animal aggression due to 200 plus years of selective breeding. so yes, training plays a role but genetics overrides
@@christinamarie1027 yes thats the magic of them. they love them some people
Honestly pit bulls are one of the most underrated dogs out there! People always thing they are so scary and mean but they are the sweetest puppies ever! If they were to ever be mean it would be because they are scared. And that’s what any other dog would do too.
For the wall painting, you should ask your subscribers to make painting as and just have a whole wall of framed art, also do y’all think y’all do do a “phrase of the day/month” where you teach us a prase in sign to expand more for ASL learners? I freaking love y’all and been with y’all before 10k !! Y’all are growing so much and I’m so happy, I keep telling everyone about yall😊love yall❤️❤️
EXCELLENT SUGGESTION!!!
Someone could draw a fanart of the sign duo and it could be the painting on their wall!
How interesting. In the first video I actually saw her head tilt forward with her left to a noise, but figured she must have been reacting to a motion.
My parents have 3 pit bulls and they are just big babies. They love to sleep next to you, lay in your lap, and are overall so sweet. It’s how a dog is raised which makes them aggressive and mean. But Java is so cute! I’m looking into adopting a deaf dog and I’m so happy to see y’all got one and I love seeing her understand sign language
Ryan seems like the decoration expert :) you guys are amazing
I have a pit bull and he's 7 but honestly, he is just the biggest sweetest fattest baby ever😂
He loves meeting new people and he's just the best old man the only time I was ever sort of scared was because my brother was tickling me and I was screaming so he nipped both of us because he thought we were hurting each other 😂💙
that pitbull statement warmed my heart
Natto! Takuan! Rice! Ume! Seaweed! Food that my kids and I love to eat too.. my kids eat natto anytime of the day 😂
Hanging a TV these days is no simple feat. Well done.
Such an cute dog!
So cute that puppy knows sign !!!!
She's not being bad. She just has too much energy and she's barking because she wants to play ❤️
Happy Birthday Ryan 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have a pit bull service dog and he's helped a lot of people realize they are just like every other dog. Kids love him! Parents, adults everyone loves him. PS you'll need the black kongs when she is fully grown. They are the heavy duty and still my baby can destroy one in a week 😂
I actually have a deaf dog too. He is a totally white boxer with tiny freckles under his coat. He knows many of the signs you showed when you were communicating with your puppy. It almost seems as if he can read our lips when we are talking to him, even though he can’t hear us. Oh well I just thought I would share, it seemed cool to see someone else have a dog with a similar condition to mine.
*deaf... oops
When will the pup be in your title sequence?? Include her 😭🤣
aw, I have a deaf dogo argentino (basically is a all white pitbull) he’s the sweetest, and he understands little signs so great, we had him for about 4 years and got him around when he was 6 months. We didn’t know he was dead at first until we realized, he was a rescue by the way ☺️. I love watching your videos just because I like seeing the way you two conversate.
If anybody is deaf but not blind and when the camera is not facing them then turn on the subtitles and you can learn sign language kinda as well! This helped me learn the basic sign language!
Ahhhhh.... we have a 1/2 cheer and 1/2 poodle soooo cute and cuddly doesn’t bark only if someone knocks or something. He’s so spoiled I like be him his name is chulo. I love 💕 your pit bull she’s adorable. I want to learn sign language 🤟 I know all the alphabets it’s so cool! I had a girlfriend that had a girlfriend that was deaf so that’s when I learned a bit! The hell with the people say about “ you should be with someone who hears like you, or, someone who is deaf like you” hey 👋 there is no borders when it comes from your ♥️ heart LOVE IS 💕 ❤️ LOVE. keep the videos rolling I’m new to this channel. Are you guys from the UK? Or USA? God bless you three 🐕🙅🏻♀️🙋🏻♂️
Pits are great dogs. I had a pit for over 16 years and he never bit anyone. It's all about showing them love. Also, Happy Birthday Ryan! Mine was Halloween. 🎂🎉🦂
I love that she listens
They are all so perfect for each other
I love how her ears just be like that.
Pitbull puppies are the cutest puppies and no one can argue with me about that lol
Cute puppie very sweet loving
I never really liked Pitbulls but this doggy is so cute. I wanna get one 😭💙

Java has the CUTEST ears 😍
Im loving that outfit. Super cuuute!
Her ears are gonna go crazy!!! She’s learning so fast :) I have a pit too, but I’ve never raised one from a baby stage😍
One of the he puppy training books I read suggested teaching commands with a word and a hand signal. It comes in handy in noisy environments to be able to communicate with my puppies.
She’s so smart and y’all are amazing parents! I train service dogs that learn both a verbal and hand sign. Takes so much patience 🐾
Do you by any chance train puppies for emotional support?
Must be tough for this dog, he has to ask himself this rhetorical question every time it sees ELLEN...Why would any REAL MAN cross dress in woman’s clothes? Oh and it’s no way that fairy beside Ellen is Deaf this is sad. #NonBiologicalWomenAlertForELLEN #DeafHOAX
@@sandyfritz9572 emotional support animals do not require any training they only need to physically be present to give the owner emotional support.
@@jizzypuff They might not require any specific training, but it's still a good idea, even if it's just something that will help the pet be calmer. (If that makes sense?)
Those ears are ADORABLE!!!!! 😍😍I'm so glad that you are standing up for Pitbulls 10:30 I have one and he is the goofiest big eared giant that you will ever meet (he also apparently looks like Dobbie) It might also be a good idea to get an Easy Walk or some other type of harness so that she learns to walk the right way (without pulling) before she gets too much bigger. Your arms will thank you later 😀
Javas eyes are just th cutest❤️❤️💜
Its adorable how she knows sign, my mom put my in charge of teaching our future dog tricks, have so many good ideas
My pitbulls LOVE the peanut butter filled bones! If Java is getting bored you should try buffalo horns! I usually buy them at target and they keep the dogs busy for hours!
It’s so amazing that your taught Java both English and sign commands! :)
People who believe that pitbulls are a dangerous breed need to watch this video. It's not the breed. Its the way the owners treat them. Such a smart pup!
Shes so young in this video!! So cute!!
As a pitbull owner myself we call what java was doing at 17:29 the zoomies, almost all pits do this silliness
Did you know Kongs are color coded? My dog pulverised her red Kong, tiny bits all over my apartment, but the black Kong she had for years🐕🥰
A family I babysit for has a pit. He’s honestly the biggest mush I’ve ever met. He thinks he’s a lap dog. Every time i come over he greets me as if I’m a member of the family and he tries to curl up on my lap, despite him being full grown🤣 it’s all about his they’re raised! I will ALWAYS be a pitbull advocate! I have yet to meet a mean pit, but I’ve met plenty of nasty smaller breeds 😂
Her sleeping on Ryan was adorable
Java's ears ㅋㅋㅋ can't take my eyes off them. Cute!
Java is still adorable even if she has gotten bigger. 😊
On the side note, I love it when you couple do a project or build or fix something together.

Dogs are only scary and mean if they're raised to be that way and have little to no socialization with humans and other animals.
Java is super cunie! ❤️
Happy birthday Ryan have a wonderful day I hope you got the xbox xxx
Pit bulls used to be known as sweet dogs (some people call them nanny dogs). Java is so cute! She looks like she’s going brindle as she grows up. For the overactive puppy brain that never stops, try a brain toy. I have a viszla puppy, and we got a play mat that you hide treats in and he has to find, keeps him busy for ages.
Java's like me. I'm deaf in my right ear too.
So cute! Keep socializing her with other people and other dogs (and other animals, if possible). And, continue to take and return her food. Pits are very sweet and they love to be around people. ... Just as there are seeing-eye dogs for the blind, there are Hearing -Service dogs for the hearing impaired ... and they know sign language, just like your puppy! In professional dog training, we regularly train dogs for voice cues, hand signals, and sometimes for different whistles or to follow where you look. If you get her to look at you, then you mouth the word, "Sit" and give the sign at the same time, then repeat and slowly stop doing the sign during training, you may be able to teach her to read lips! Dogs may not see detail well, but they can see small movements very well, so that may be something else to practice. Have fun!
