Many companies have the reputation to make bad tutorial videos, but this one is very good. clear explanation and straight to the point
Except for one thing, they don't tell what to do after the flashback light stops blinking. Should i remove the usb-stick or should i leave the stick and power up the pc? It's minor but it was what i was thinking before i just took out the stick.
@@Odder-Being You god damn right! Me too think it first time.
Press the BIOS FlashBack™ button for three seconds until the FlashBack LED blinks three times, indicating that the BIOS FlashBack™ function is enabled.
*The BIOS file size will affect the update time. It can be completed in 8 minutes. Please do not remove the USB flash drive, unplug the power supply, turn on the power or press the CLR_CMOS button during the execution. This will cause the update to be interrupted and the system will not boot.
Wait until the light goes out, indicating that the BIOS updating process is completed.
@@asus_support So what do i do with the usb flash drive after the light go's out? Leave it in or remove it, that's what's missing in your description of the whole process. :)
@@Odder-Being I did this procedure a week ago.
When the light went out and the flashing stopped, it meant the firmware was finished.
You can turn off the computer completely, pull the plug out of the wall socket.
Next, you can turn it on, and it doesn't matter whether you take out the flash drive or leave it in. The procedure will not repeat itself, because it is launched only by pressing a special button ""flashback".
It is very important - use a 2.0 drive, not a 3.0, because there will be an error, the light will not blink for a long time, it will blink for only five seconds and then will glow continuously - the instructions say this error in the firmware file or during the firmware process. Same with 3.0 drives.
The manual says - the storage device should be at least 1 gigabyte, but 16 megabytes is enough. The firmware in my case took up 8 megabytes, the flash drive was 16 megabytes. Everything was successful, I was able to flash the modified firmware, with support nvme through pci-express M2 adapter.

Thanks for the excellent, simple and clear tutorial. I have the ROG Strix X570-F board, upgraded from 3700X to 5800X3D. I installed my new CPU then realized I forgot to update my BIOS, and the computer wouldn't boot. This video was easy to follow and I was able to update my BIOS with the new CPU already installed. Amazing quality of life feature.
When I run the renamer my file is still named tgx570rw
No .cap in it I am not sure to even try it I don't want to brick the mb
Also did you delete the renamer from the USB or leave it on
Is the only file on the flash drive supposed to be the tgx570rw?
@@jgvtc559 That filename seems like it's already been renamed. The original filename for mine was much longer and has dashes. The renamer shortened it to something like what you mentioned. You could redownload the zip and run the renamer again just to be sure if you want.
Not showing .cap could just mean your windows explorer is set to hide file extensions. If you ran the renamer I wouldn't be worried about it, it should have set the file name correctly. You can also open file properties to check the file type and make sure it's CAP if you want.
You don't need to put the renamer.exe on the USB stick, just the bios file. And yes I would remove all other files from the USB so that there's only the bios file on there
Hey man I changed my 5600x to 5800x3d too and have post code 00 and not boot (with no bios flashback) i thought some of my pc components is broken and now I try with bios flashback. Do you think it will be work? I am desperated and I don't know what can I do.
@@kamyl2137 I was in the exact same situation. BIOS flashback was super easy and fixed it. Just follow the instructions carefully and I'm sure your system will be back up and running. Good luck
For those who have the light of the flashback who stay on, try to format your usb key with Diskpart.
1) Open cmd as an administrator
2) diskpart
3) list disk
4) select disk (x) x is the number of your usb key
5) clean
6) convert mbr
7) create partition primary
8) select partition 1
9) format fs=fat32 quick
I would just add that if when you do "list disk" if there is an asterisk under Gpt for your usb drive then do a "convert mbr" after step 5.

I picked an old drive from laptop - 150GB HDD.
I have used Windows 11 storage management and limited it's capacity into 8192MB.
Then I have right clicked on it and formatted it with Windows into FAT32 file system.
I have copied the BIOS with correct name (as in Motherboard manual).

I'll admit to this video being well done on how to use the ASUS BIOS flashback to update with.
I was surprised a little bit you didn't mention the onboard Boot Post Sequence Screen run through on the Motherboard.
The Post screen will also show the BIOS update progress stages during the BIOS update process.
For those who cannot solve the problem with the Solid Green Light and did everything showed in the video. Revise the Drive Partition Format. In the Windows Format Tool it does NOT appear. So, use Diskpart for checking if your Drive is using MBR or GPT format. As you know, for flashing you have to use MBR.

You can change the filename without the BIOS Renamer program. Make sure your USB Drive has the partition scheme of Master Boot Record and not GUID Partition Map. If it blinks a couple of times, then turns solid blue, then something wasn't set up correctly. If it keeps blinking until it goes out completely, then it worked properly.
That MBR part is really important. Wasted a lot of time trying to make it work on GUID. Thanks.

Hi @@btudrus
Yes, CPU is not necessary in USB BIOS Flashback.

Hi Dunlock ツ,

Wait until the light goes out, indicating that the BIOS updating process is completed. Afterwards, you can remove the USB device.
After bios update, turn off the computer to finish the update. If you are experiencing black screen this could be that fast boot is enabled so usb drivers wont recognize and show screen. I don't have bios renamer, when I try to flashback it blips for 5 seconds then stays solid indicating it's not able to read the file... My motherboard is x99-A

@@asus_support my pc is giving me black screen with solid dash after I changed bios into Asus optimal... I tried resetting cmos, flashback bios, removed each ram and tried it... Also, my pc isn't recognizing my keyboard, it is however giving power to my mouse and my motherboard is reading code 00... So I can't access bios at all... Rebooting after updating the BIOS will take more time than normal boot time. Is the update successful now?
@@asus_support Having the same symptom. the light stays on, and i have waited 32 minutes, and nothing. Light would still be on.
At the time of downloading the bios update, I tried opening file (revealing cap file) and dragging the file to the thumbdrive, and then I tried extracting file(right click) content to thumbdrive.
I right clicked the file and manually retyped the name, and also copy paste to rename the file
There was never a second program called file renamer, and I tried down loading it from ASUS website. (I couldn't find it, and I wouldn't trust 3rd party offerings.
I have this feeling that I have to go under cmd file and start typing stuff, I do not understand to properly Rename the stupid BIOS!
WHY is something so basic, so difficult?
Also have tried various times, waiting at least 10minutes after flashing, each time, with small changes(Like extracting file vs dragging file. Typing file name vs copy paste.) each attempt, I reformat the thumbdrive.

Does the USB drive have to be empty? Can I put it in a USB drive created by Windows media creator? Thanks
When using USB BIOS FlashBack, it's recommended that the USB drive be empty except for the BIOS file you need to update. This helps ensure that the BIOS update process can access and read the BIOS file without any interference from other files.
Using a USB drive created by Windows Media Creation Tool is not recommended because it contains additional files and a specific structure intended for installing Windows, which might interfere with the BIOS FlashBack process.
