It's not shown, but im sure majority of the responsibility is on the older kids to take care of most of the younger kids. Wbile the mother and father focus mainly on the youngest ones. I've seen it a million times on different TV shows. The older children are unhappy and exhausted, just not living the life a young person should live. And then, it makes them not even want kids.

This is challenging me as an OB nurse. I whole heartedly believe that everyone has the rights to their own body and we cannot force a hysterectomy on someone just for having kids. But the ethical issues that are associated with this is beyond my scope.
The kids are clean, fed, and developing accordingly with their milestones. But I have to wonder how this is going to impact the kids mentally in the future. Both positives and negatives.

    • @tiahnarodriguez3809
      @tiahnarodriguez3809 Рік тому +87

Mentally, you can tell the kids do not like this set-up. It’s ok to speak on the reality of things. In these women’s cases, a hysterectomy should be advised. The poor children are not doing as well as you think. Feeding, clothing, and housing is the bare minimum a parent must provide, and is not a true indicator of how well a child is doing.

kids also dont like not having siblings, their parents being divorced etc. there are probably as many good things about being a big family as there are bad. I am from a big family and my cousin has no siblings. We were looked at as these people, but we were happy, it was loud and always busy, but as I grew up I realized I was very lucky compared to most poeple. It also gives you a much stronger family bond when you grow up because you are so many you have been forced to be around one another you still keep contact because them being in your life is the baseline. It combats loneliness and we help each other. I wouldn't have it any other way and had you asked me as a child I would have wanted to be an only child.

It's an addiction, and they're treating it with what the mothers' are addicted to. Hearing them say it's worth the risk is like hearing a heroin addict say it's worth the risk. It'll never not be worth the risk unless something really, really drastic happens. And it can't just be their lives at risk because, again, addict mentality.

They are religious and live what the Bible says. "Fill the Earth.." or something like that. No birth control, God forbid abortion, so what do you do? You keep on having child after child. They live their convictions. And they are all healthy children, which is great.
What I like less is that chaos is seen as normal. If you decide to have this many children, you have to give them other kind of attention and group occupations and clear responsibilities so they form a team and so they can get something from being one of many :).
Lot of screaming, fighting, rivalry and not having enough peaceful time at home is not good.

@@majdavojnikovic the big "risk" I'm talking about is her life. I get why she's doing this, but if she ends up dying, she is leaving a husband by himself with all these mourning children. Does their God really want them to have children until she dies young and abandons her children? What is the point of that? I'm not even against her having a large family. That is fine. But when a doctor is telling you that death is knocking, I think you should take a second to seriously think.

As they themselves assume, it sure looks like a kind of addiction.
If it is addiction, addicts don't think rationally, or can rationally address risks.

I’m the youngest of 7 children (20years old now) Our childhood was rough! After my mums parents started to get ill (when I was little) that put a massive strain on our family and sent my mum into a breakdown. My mum and dads relationship fell apart and she became a single mum. Her dad dying and the stress of the kids were too much to bear, we were neglected and had to be taken away from her. One of the older kids ended up in foster care, and the rest of us forced to live with our dad or sofa surf as a young adult. We all struggled with suicidal tendencies and depressed from the trauma of our childhood and I was raised completely by my siblings. I can’t imagine how hard it was for my older siblings to look after the young ones let alone being in a family double the size! Our childhood has effected us all even into a adulthood. However, the relationship I have with my siblings is absolute amazing. We are all best friends and love spending time with each other now. I truly hope that these family’s get the light at the end of the tunnel as I did. But, their age gaps are a lot larger than ours so being close as adults may be more difficult. Another thing is the house, having 7 kids and keeping a tidy house is almost impossible, with money being very tight and my mum couldn’t afford to get rid of anything and developed hoarding problems. Tidying the house and doing that much loads of washing was unmanageable alone. The house became so cluttered it was honestly a health hazard, we turned up to school regularly unbathed with knotted hair and the wrong shoes on. You can imagine the knock on effect that had to our education, it’s hard to concentrate with the pressure of what’s going on at home.

I grew up in a family of 13, my mom LOVED being pregnant. Watching this reminded me of the complete chaos, noise, and fights.
I was the quiet one that craved attention but always felt a sensory overload.
My mom also homeschooled us - but we went into the education system for high-school. Some struggled, some thrived - a social life was impossible as a kid, we had to babysit, do chores, do homework etc.
I love and have close bonds with my siblings, but I'm a little bitter I missed a relationship with my mom. She was so focused on the new baby or the new pregnancy, or the chaos on hand; it's not possible to remember the quiet child.

I only have one sibling and still sometimes thought that my parents weren't giving me enough time when I was growing up. Now as an adult and having adult conversations with my parents, I had my mom confess that more than once she struggled harshly with being a stay-at-home parent, and my dad telling me of how he lost sleep thinking on how to provide and not being home that much. We were just TWO kids and there were still so many things my parents wished they did differently and things my sibling and I wished they did to connect better with us.
Most kids here are still small, but when they start becoming teens and needing new different kind of attention and more space things are gonna get wild. I can only imagine that it already is to the older kids who, for intents and purposes, have to be parents to their youngest siblings, that's a responsibility they didn't ask for. There's more to having kids than giving them food, clothes and shelter, there is no way all those kids are getting their emotional needs met

I'd be interested in hearing what that eldest daughter in the homeschool family has to say about her family. She looks bored, frustrated, confused and exhausted. The part where both parents go outside and that daughter is left holding two children, one of them crying. In most cases, families this large are a recipe for disaster, especially for the older children. Add homeschooling as bad as this to the mix, & it's downright scary.

The Radfords have 21 children now and they lost one to miscarriage between the 15th and 21st. The thing I can say about that family is they’re not on benefits, don’t need handouts, provide a lovely loving home for their children and financially cover everything on their own. They should be able to have as many as they’d like as they are the exception to these families because all of their children and now grandchildren as well still choose to live at home or come over daily and holiday as a family too. Even the one they say is the most hated- why do they hate her? All her children are happy, healthy and from the same father. She divorced the father and now has no support from him and now needs benefits. Until the divorce she never needed help. Her and her husband provided. She’s not leeching off the system. She’s a single mom now and she can’t work enough jobs to provide for her family by herself. She needs assistance. I’m sure between her and her husband they paid in plenty. I don’t necessarily agree with these mega families but if they can take care of themselves and they’re happy and not causing problems then what’s the problem? They’re not popping out kids and using the benefit money for booze and drugs…

here's some homeschooling advice: you don't teach 7th grade subjects to 3rd and 4th graders and kindergartners, as well as 11th graders.... teach them the subjects they need to be learning at their age and stop generalizing. Plus just copy a public school schedule from the internet and get rid of the topics you find inap like education on ... and so on
EDIT #1: You could send them to kumon for math and english difficulties so that they can have structure and still have a somewhat normal classroom experience and direct communication with friends and teachers.

It's insane how much food we need, and we are usually low on money cause my mom can't work cause she has to take care of all of us (we are homeschooled). But big family hate is a thing, we like never get invited to anything.

Honest advice from someone who has been there: therapy (not medications, I mean TALKING about your traumatic childhood- being emotionally neglected is traumatic, but of course nobody intended it to be; it’s not your parents’ fault your needs weren’t met, but it still affects us) will save your life. Life is so long, and if you can’t access therapy yet, don’t panic, but work towards it as hard as you work to get to college and get out. The longer you have to wait to start therapy, the longer your recovery time will be, but it’s not too bad; you CAN live a happy life of your own and you deserve to! ❤️

I come from a family of 6. 6 is enough. Arguably too many. But at least with 6 the ages can be well spread out, and there's time for both parents to have one on one time. Rooms weren't cramped due to the age gap, as soon as I hit my tweens 3 siblings were already out.
That said, I don't want to have kids of my own. I love my family more than anything in the world. But I think battling for food like we were in the apocalypse scarred me enough to swear off children of my own lmao

    • @ThinkingInProgress

As a family of 9 children, I was forgotten a lot (I was #7) there’s really not much time you can spend one on one with your parents. And when you do, you also realize that their attention is not solely going to be directed on you because they also have a lot of other children too. When I was a kid I got left at home once because they didn’t count up all their children when they left to the store. Also, as all adults now there’s a lot of drama and not many of us talk to each other, and there’s a ton of grandchildren now. It’s just a big mess overall. The oldest one of us passed away at 23 years old, and I think it’s made me realize how much I care for the siblings I do have. So even though it’s a big family I wouldn’t want any less siblings than I already have.

The first woman had her first child (now 22 year old) at 14! Being pregnant and a mom is part of her identity now that's why she can't stop having children. I remember my own complaint about my Mom works so much she doesn't listen to us. How much listening is occurring in these households or are the children self- sensoring all their thoughts because they have to weigh every single one of them against thre barrier of "is my opinion/observation/question on how things work really with taking away Mom's time or is someone else more important than what I want to say"? The girl with 10 says it's sad because she is more of a mum to some of the kids than the mum. She literally said if she had to choose one sibling to save and the rest died, she didn't think, she was like the youngest boy (5) because she raised that boy. And she isn't even the oldest...
It must be horrible raising sublings because your parents can't

@@민지야-l3p I raised my moms kids. When I got home from school I had laundry to do babies to look after and supper to cook. With my mom she only liked babies. As soon as a baby became 2 and could do for themselves she wouldn't look after them anymore and it was time to have another baby. My mother did absolutely no housework. She just sat on the couch all day playing with her last baby. I wasn't allowed to disipline the kids just clean up after them. My father who worked long hours didn't know what was really going on in the house. My mother would lie and tell my dad it was all me and that I wouldn't help do anything. Then I would be beaten. At 10 I started trying to kill myself or run away. Thankfully I met my husband at 16 and married at 17. I actually got help from a wonderful lady who worked for the CPS. She showed me how to be a good parent. I only had 3 children because I wanted to make sure I could be a good mother for them their whole life of growing up. My husband came from a large family too and he went through the same brutality from his father too. We both realize that our fathers were stressed out working long hours to support their large families.
People need to realize when too many is too many.

I grew up more or less in the household of my best friend - and they have 5 kids and being 6 in total, everybody took care of each other and for some exceptions it was fine and we had a lot of fun together most of the time and still go to festivals together, because we like each other so much :)

@Vexy Star Yes it's mandatory, but in the UK people have the legal right to teach their child at home (home-schooling, home education) But I'm sure they have to meet certain requirements and adhere to regulations. However, saying that, many parents are probably getting away with it (like this mother) as there's no way of thoroughly checking...

Vexy Star as long as you can prove that you are educating your children at home, they make you do tests I believe, you can educate your children at home

    • @christinaishere1
      @christinaishere1 4 роки тому

@Vexy Star in the UK you have to provide your kids with an education. If you choose to home educate you can teach them how and what you want as long as you are providing some sort of education. I home educate and we are VERY academically focused but we are an oddity. In fact, we are looked down on by other home Ed families because we have some formal education. I decided to home Ed because I felt schools weren’t good enough. I wanted my children to do the best they were able at their speed without being held back by slower kids or left behind by quicker kids. Most of the other home Ed families seem to have children with extra needs the schools didn’t help with and they don’t do formal educating at all. And though I keep all of our work, workbooks, tests, awards and records from sports and clubs and the daily itineraries and have since the beginning, no one has ever come to check what we are doing. So it’s either no involvement from the local councils or they are completely ignorant of their remit and overstep their boundaries and it’s up to the parents to teach them the actual laws. There, home education in the UK.

Why is no one talking about how she’s homeschooling those children who should all be at different stages. The oldest girl would be in year 8 or 9 and the youngest one would just be in primary school! It’s not fair that the younger kids are learning something so advanced and it’s not fair that the older girl isn’t being challenged so she can’t advance as much as she needs to.
