"Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself."

Huey looks like the coolest guy that you would love to have as a friend to hang around at home watching a football game or something. Looking at him back in the 80s. he never tried to have "an image" like other acts with weird haircuts, outrageous clothing, etc. None of that. He was always just a plain regular guy, casual well dressed, normal appearance, and all that he needed was the *real talent * that he had to be so successful.

Was too young to go to "The Arena" to see him but legend has it he was seen in the hotel lobby after the show drinking a jug of orange juice and poured it all on his face and shirt. Great guy, and a great segment. I met him once, when they just got their first radio hit...back in the early 80s. My friend's band opened for them in a little hole-in-the-wall bar in Wisconsin, and I was helping out my friend's band as basically a roadie. I didn't have a gig so my friend asked if I could help schlep his drums, as they weren't going to have much time to move gear after their set. So we all showed up and ended up hanging with HL & The News for the night. A nicer bunch of guys you couldn't find--and even then they were a tremendously tight band. What power. My friend and I (both drummers) were talking backstage with Bill Gibson about drum stuff, and HL walks up and joins the conversation. Just the nicest dude.
Great memories, and from my experience the guy we see in this video was absolutely the guy that I remember.

@NaghaviSystem I think a little education might have helped you in life. You sound like a dropout, a quitter. Yeah, the English language sure is a tough one: requires study and focus. I'm not a fan of a band that sounds exactly the same as it did at the time of its debut. No growth whatsoever in their sound. Apparently, this is enough for you. I ask for more. Congratulations on settling for mediocrity. Now, hit the books and get educated- or have you too settled?
