One of the most underrated singer/songwriter guitar players in rock history. We cannot lose Jerry Cantrell. He's a national rock treasure! Dark but full of melody and then light. Sludge riffs, dissonant music, clean beautiful melodic guitar lines...man can do it all.. I respect him so much

Jerry is real down to earth. He bucks the Amoeba norm, and actually names records everyone has heard of....instead of the cliche "My first album is by Left Foot Stinky McGee and the Indiana School marms, who really influenced my early years through their use of wooden spoons and hair spray" shtick.
I knew the hipsters would be coming out of the woodwork trashing Jerry's mainstream picks on this. The reality is I think he was being honest and basically showing everyone the groundwork for what truly influenced him to be one of the greatest tone masters in the world of guitar. The funny thing is, most people don't realize how influential these albums were, nor do they realize how many albums were created with a goal to achieve the feel of these pieces of classic rock. I’m just really surprised that he didn’t add any Metallica to his bag 😂
I LOVE this picks. Rather than do what most people on this show do which is to list down a litany of obscure artists that they might not even listen to as much, Jerry decided to pick music that speaks to him, that continues to influence and inspire his own music. Straight to the classics and there's nothing wrong with that. Nothing pretentious too.
I disagree. He already has this stuff in his collection and grew up with it. I doubt he would really get that stuff if it wasn't filmed. I mean maybe I have not seen enough of these I know some people want to be "different" but a lot of it I can picture the artist listening to.

These are like learning the history behind musicians' inspirations & creativity - Very much appreciate when the artists are well-spoken, well rounded & know music history beyond their own particular genres - Jerry is not only phenomenal guitarist, but seems genuine & down-to-earth as well!
Seriously I wish I could hug him. One of my favorite musicians ever. Voice of an Angel and guitar god. I love him and Toni Iommi. Favorite guitarists for sure.
I saw AIC open for Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer on the Clash of the Titans tour in the early 90's. Relatively unknown, they blew those other bands away. Jerry is such an incredible song writer. Their albums are all killer, no filler.
Amazing human being. That’s why AIC is still “alive”! Jerry is the man! Now I understand why I like them. Jerry writes thru their sound with his words!there is only one Layne. Jerry is the mind behind...
Jerry, you’re awesome! The pleasure is mine. Your music has meant so much to me through the years. I was there for Facelift and MTV. Even bought a G&L that I dig. Thank you sir!
Met Jerry back in the 90's, one of my favorite players from that decade - this is great insight on a point I've always tried to pass on about influences in that the great players allow any good music to influence them and usually like much more music than many of the listeners
Whenever I talk about Alice In Chains to people that have never really listened to them, I describe them as a heavy band that truly shows their influences on their sleeve. Literally everything that Jerry picked up backs that up. Holy shit... I loved the ACDC recognition especially. All of these influences, and more, paved the ground work for one of the most under-rated metal bands to have ever existed in my own opinion. This band changed so many things for me as a musician, growing up.
Aside from a very nice interview and look at what inspired Jerry. I have to say, I think is so underrated as a guitar player. He really plays to what the song is asking for, and when you gives you taste of what he's capable of doing (technically) it's about as good as you're going to get. He really has a nice flavor for phrasing, dynamics, feel, and groove. Thanks for the cool interview Jerry!
Even though I was never really deep into AiC, I keep watching videos with them on youtube. They just seemed like a real band of actually good friends. Something cool and relatable about them.
Jerry didn't mention that he played on a record with Ozzy! Jerry was the main guitarist on Ozzy's Under Cover album! Great picks! You can't go wrong with the classics.
Gotta go with Jerry on all those albums. Tre Hombres was one of my all time favorites when I was young. And Madman Across The Water was full of some of the best songs Elton ever recorded.

These are like learning the history behind musicians' inspirations & creativity - Very much appreciate when the artists are well-spoken, well rounded & know music history beyond their own particular genres - Jerry is not only phenomenal guitarist, but seems genuine & down-to-earth as well!
Not only one of the most underrated guitarists in music history but his vocal harmonies makes Alice what it was.
Seriously I wish I could hug him. One of my favorite musicians ever. Voice of an Angel and guitar god. I love him and Toni Iommi. Favorite guitarists for sure.
I absolutely love this store👍👍👍 and Jerry, you rock 🎸🎶🎵
I saw AIC open for Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer on the Clash of the Titans tour in the early 90's. Relatively unknown, they blew those other bands away. Jerry is such an incredible song writer. Their albums are all killer, no filler.
Jerry is such a down to earth guy
Jerry is definitely one of my favorite guitarists! But his singing and song writing is incredible too. Plus he's just an awesome person.
I asked and I received 🙌🏽
Amazing human being. That’s why AIC is still “alive”! Jerry is the man! Now I understand why I like them. Jerry writes thru their sound with his words!there is only one Layne. Jerry is the mind behind...
Many of my favorites as well. I love that he picked Sabbath Paranoid. Because for me Tony Iommi and Jerry are both riff masters.
Rumors IS A MASTERPIECE!!!!! god bless Jerry Cantrell
I always appreciate a shoutout to Dime. You’re a good man, Jerry. May you rock forever.
Jerry is a living, breathing part of rock's beating heart. 🤙🏽
Love to hear talented artists talking about music. Thanks Jerry!
Do Trent Reznor
Rent Treznor
YES
Trevor Reznik (The Machinist)
I'd be curious to see that one.
yeah
Lovely video great to see what one of my heroes listens to... which matches what I listen to, how cool is that?!
All his record choices are brilliant. Jerry is a legend!
Saw Jerry solo band live by accident in 98? or maybe 96 late 90's! and a fan ever since. Hes in a class on his own.
My respect level for this guy just went up when I didn't think it was possible. Everything down to the candles was spot fuckin' on!
Thank guys I love this page, always looking forwarding into seeing everyones bag of goodies.
Anybody put this together? the Elton John songs had high orchestra effects. Reminds me of “I Stay Away” . One of the best songs EVER!
He's 52
That was so cool to see JC totally chill and giving so much of himself for the interview. Great job!
Jerry is such a fascinating musician, with some mad chops himself.
I like that he didn't feel the need to pick obscure albums, just what really influenced him n albums he really likes.
I love that he picks albums we all love...some of these artists try to show their “depth” by picking obscure stuff...Jerry is indeed one of us.
Tres Hombres is my favorite ZZ Top album. Hell, it's in my top five albums of all time.
How can you not love this guy?!
Jerry is one of the most regular guys ever. Appreciate him greatly
Jerry is looking more and more like Johnny winter everyday.
He was always an elf from Lord of the rings.
@@Juanirva lmao can you not
Jerry is the man love everything he has done !! Just an outstanding guitar player and song writer
I love Jerry’s demeanor. Is it just me or is his face starting to morph into Mona Lisa?
Haha his whole being is art ❤️
Mona Lisa/future Edward Norton:-)))
Mona Lisa? Yeah a little 😂
Even though I was never really deep into AiC, I keep watching videos with them on youtube. They just seemed like a real band of actually good friends. Something cool and relatable about them.
jerry cantrell is a big time living LEGEND
!!!
Jerry didn't mention that he played on a record with Ozzy! Jerry was the main guitarist on Ozzy's Under Cover album! Great picks! You can't go wrong with the classics.
What a legend with such a haunting style.
Please have Kerry King on here!
Gotta go with Jerry on all those albums. Tre Hombres was one of my all time favorites when I was young. And Madman Across The Water was full of some of the best songs Elton ever recorded.
Jerry clearly has great taste in music, regardless of whether some of these were more "cliche" picks.
