Thanks for watching! These types of shoulder season trips really put into perspective how important it is to have a game plan before going into the backcountry...as well as a plan B, C and D. Let's all stay safe out there and respect these amazing places!
That turn around mood Dave pulls off at 29:20 is pure gold. That is the look of a man that shoulda only burned a halfer but forgot to put it out and burned the whole thing. I know that look well.
What a spot. So awesome that there’s people that will put places like that for others to use. Makes you really want to leave it better than you found it out of gratitude. Awesome trip boys. Stay safe!
Although I've lived my80 years in Ontario, Cape Breton is one of my favourite places. Especially the west shore on the Northumberland Strait. Great people & wonderful beaches. Thanks for the reminder. Stay Safe & thanks Brian 80
And to think someone hauled all the stuff out there to build that cabin and a wood stove, it was a haul just to walk back there. Thats badass for whoever did it.
Just had to rewatch this from a year ago! Would love to do this trip. Unfortunately those days are over for me... In my younger years I did many trips like this in the backwoods of Guysborough County, staying in old cabins or building lean-tos to sleep through a winter night!
Oh man that was fun. A ballsy creek crossing. We could feel the satisfaction of making it to the cabin, especially after that night in close quarters. Some great terminology in this one like "scream barfing."
Scream barfing was coined from screaming barfies which is a term used for when your hands warm up after being extremely cold and it hurts so much that you want to scream and barf at the same time. Also learned this one from Mr. Greene ha
I am from Ingonish and I have been in the highlands throughout the year. I have seen it snow every month of the year. Had my dad fishing on July 4 and we had 6" of snow. Staying dry is important. Good trip. Thank you and have fun.
I stayed in the older cabin up there with some friends back in the early 90's. Nice to see they built a new one. Never went all the way to the Franey trail on our trip though. Just up to the cabin and spent a week there and back down the hill. Great journey. 👍
That was a tough one Noah! Awesome. The trip in itself looks challenging, but filming the whole thing takes determination. Thank you for another great adventure.
That was the best film I’ve seen in awhile! Great job guys! I hope the cabin builders get to see this and how much it was appreciated. Im sure they’re great Cape Bretoners!
Oh my God. Peanut butter and jelly and butter baked in bacon grease! That has got to be heaven, and full of hiking energy. Wow. I can't wait to make my first one.
You captured our motel at the beginning where the sign welcomes you to the Cabot Trail the second you turned off the main hwy..... come stay with us on your next trip 😁 We would love to meet Osa!
I stayed at a motel outside old orchard Beach and don't regret it. It was family owned so it was really well decorated and stocked. My room even had 2 recliners. Place was spotless and I got to watch a hot air balloon take off from their front lawn.
Really enjoyed watching this. I am a three season camper and now I know why! I would much rather be an armchair adventurer on these winter treks. Props to you three for pulling this off though, that looked pretty tough at times. But that makes stories even better after the trip is over.
Great video showing what can really happen on a trip. It is hard to plan on all that happened to you guys. Love the duck tape fix. Now go out and buy some new pants. When we left our cabin for the winter we always left it stocked with wood and food and warm blankets just in case some one needed help.
Another stream crossing technique: 2 people, one faces upstream and one down, with arms locked. Move 1 foot at a time. Shoes on but no socks or pants so they’re dry on the other side. Worked really well in a flooded stream with strong current/heavy packs. Love your videos!😊
Awesome trip guys. You have to like the weather in Nova Scotia. Give it 10 minutes and it will change. Thanks for taking along with you guys. Have a great 2021 and I'm looking forward to more adventures. Cheers 👌
Great work. Those creek crossings in cold weather are not fun but part of the experience. Back in Alaska we had similar freezing cold crossings in spring and summer. Freaky as it sounds, we typically stripped down, put on sandals we bring for the purpose, and gut it out. Cold wet legs and feet are better than cold wet clothes, socks, legs, and feet.
Cool video, great trip. I watched the video while cycling on the home bike... and with you guys, I could cycle longer than ever bevore. (I started cycling at 7.1. at home office, to break a little bit my day)
Hate to break this to you. I drove to NS two years ago from Eastern Ontario with my Golf Tdi. When I left NB I crossed a BRIDGE into Nova Scotia . Nova Scotia is an ISLAND!🤪😉 I love the Maritimes ! 👍 Father in law and I get into argument every time! I drove all that distance to camp kejimkujik national park. Was awesome!
wow what horrible weather you guy's and dog had to deal with some tough cookies you are . as is the dog, love the cabin how nice . nice adventure loved it Sue , Ontario
Hey guys, Impressive hike!!! I live on an acreage in the Highlands and never go into the forest in winter, so was very cool to see. I was also super impressed with the cabin, cheers to the people that made that happen, good on ya.
Dave is awesome I'm glad to see that you're still doing trips with him there I'm in Ontario boy from Niagara Falls but lived in Nova Scotia for 5 years enjoy yourself I have family everywhere there Halifax Salt Springs Pictou Scotch burn West Branch love enjoy Ontario boy
I will be following many of these hikers. Definitely interested to see how MamaBear and BabyBear do. Also all the more “mature “ hikers. They are a definite inspiration.
Wow guys o yeah you did mention your names at the beginning I just forgot them all sorry. But I watch a lot of outdoor survivalist documentories this is by far top 5 on my list and then science where the long hair heshan put bacon on the baked peanut butter sandwich with his expretion after he ate it was hilariously priceless . thanks to all three of you guys .
The entire French Republic drinks coffee from bowls in the morning. I am not allowed coffee but from my bowl I drink green tea every morning. Cheers and good luck on you trip.
My Great, great grandparents emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland to make their way to Nova Scotia. They eventually landed in the Thumb area of Michigan. ( Bad Axe and Caseville , Michigan. They were farmers.
Great video!...must have been hard to leave that nice comfy cabin and head out into more horrible conditions! .... thanks for sharing and stay safe guys.
I’ve only been there in the summer but I do remember the heaviest rainfall I’ve been in back in the 1960s as a kid. My Dad and I were fishing and we got soaked even with rain gear. I’ve been to a few jungle places that came close, but Cape Breton rain still holds first place for a downpour in my 70 years.
This trip is hardcore, and the persistence you guys show is impressive. The dog, she looks kind of a Swedish Elkhound? Thank you for sharing, this was a great one!

You're welcomed.
Dogs like, “no thanks, I’ll stay in the truck!”
That turn around mood Dave pulls off at 29:20 is pure gold. That is the look of a man that shoulda only burned a halfer but forgot to put it out and burned the whole thing. I know that look well.
Dude looks like he’s not even in the same time zone as the rest of us lmaooo
Lol 😂 I skipped ahead to this timestamp to see what this was all about . He is blitzed 😅
What a great way to end the year. Thanks for sharing the beauty, hardships, and joy of adventure.
What a spot. So awesome that there’s people that will put places like that for others to use. Makes you really want to leave it better than you found it out of gratitude. Awesome trip boys. Stay safe!
There's a fine line between challenging and foolhardy. I'm a fan. Be careful.
Although I've lived my80 years in Ontario, Cape Breton is one of my favourite places. Especially the west shore on the Northumberland Strait. Great people & wonderful beaches. Thanks for the reminder. Stay Safe & thanks Brian 80
Congrats on the 80 milestone. You Sir have my respect and best wishes. Enjoy the many more years to come Brian you deserve it.
And to think someone hauled all the stuff out there to build that cabin and a wood stove, it was a haul just to walk back there. Thats badass for whoever did it.
I love Cape Breton and you guys describe the weather so well. love all your videos.
That was an epic trip men! Seeing the cabin and it's condition was like discovering the Ritz Carlton!
Just had to rewatch this from a year ago! Would love to do this trip. Unfortunately those days are over for me... In my younger years I did many trips like this in the backwoods of Guysborough County, staying in old cabins or building lean-tos to sleep through a winter night!
