Hi, my name is Nikola Horvat - Tesla and I present to you my first solo documentary.
In summer of 2019. I went to hike Colorado Trail to find the reasons why do I hike. This was independent project and the movie was filmed, edited and written by myself. It was challenging to carry all of video equipment in my backpack, but I had a vision and a goal - I wanted to capture my inner reasons why I do hike and why do I always go back to long distance hiking.
Why do I hike won 3 grand prix awards and it was once a finalist and official selection on various film festivals:
Croatian travel festival/Dijana Klaric award 2020: 1st prize
    Mosor film festival: 1st prize
3FoK, Bosnia and Herzegovina: 1st prize
Godollo film festival, Hungary: official selection
Kharkiv international festival of arts and travel, Ukraine: official selection

I love hiking, especially long-distance hiking, although I know I have my physical limitation. After 10 years of long-distance hiking, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer, was rushed into 6 hours of emergency surgery in 2020. Throughout the last two years, I drew my hiking experience, I switched my mind to pure survival instinct - I want to live! it was a long journey, but I instinct of staying alive outlive all. Today, I have been cancer-free for more than a year. I thought of nothing but live. Planning to do a three-day hiking again soon, can not wait to return to the open space of life, that will strive in any condition, and so do our lives.

When I was on the Camino, I met a man who has had a brain cancer with almost no chance of survival. He promised to do the Camino if he survived and after the successful brain operation and chemotherapy, he did started the camino, slowly, step after step

having spent time with many long-distance hikers like myself, men, women, older, young, and children, I guess we all have many common thoughts about our own physical limits and sometimes understand other hikers' physical limits. It's amazing to learn a Brain Cancer survivor started slowly hiking again, I am certain he knows his own physical abilities well enough to start doing something he felt right about it. After surviving a life and death surgery experience, it did make me cherish life more and find a way to reach out to people to share life. Camino trail is a spiritual awakening journey, if I find a chance I would walk the trail, I just would like to do this walk for the right spiritual experience for me, and I am sure I will define one that will be right for me. Catch up with you all on the trails.

I'm afraid of bears, wild dogs, sleep deprivation etc. It's hard to live with this. I even have no job, because any job demands to be in time in particular place, causing me nervous and I can't sleep all night due to the tomorrow routine. I’m on a 1000km thru hike in the southwest corner of Western Australia called the Bibbulmun trail. Breathtaking Kari forests, grey rock wallabies, stunning sunsets on top of granite outcrops, inky black nights peppered with and explosion of stars and and the untamed wild southern ocean. Hiking distills life down to what’s important. On this journey I’ve learnt that ‘the trail takes from you what you didn’t know you didn’t need and gives to you what you didn’t know you needed’.

We love Snowdon, my daughter and I did the Watkins Path with the rock scramble to the summit in the fog which was pretty disorentating. We want to keep progreessing with Snowdon and were going to try a winter ascent this week in the hope of having a view of the snow covering, but the wind at +50mph combined with some rain I thought was just too much. We'd also like to be confident enough to do the Crib Goch route (in the summer) which I understand is rated as one of the best/diffecult ridge walks in Europe. There's so much to do up there. I also know that wild camping isn't detered, so there are some 2 day circular routes to do as well. Such a great mountain, I'm glad you enjoyed it and it helped your mental health.

Having hiked the 200 mi Nepal Thorong la Pass and almost all trails in Washinton and Oregon, I fully appreciate all your feelings about separating from 'civilization?' and seeking the primal spirit that originally enabled humans. I realize you do not believe as I do from some of your commentary, but I want to share this anyway because it's the only hope I have ever being able to do what you do. I believe this scripture is talking about earth, not heaven, and that we will be given another chance to live on this stunningly beautiful planet without ruining it:
"With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Revelation 21:3-5

I look forward to them every year as I do just 2 or 3 when I visit my home state in Maine. It is like looking forward to a favorite broadway show coming out or band coming to town you always wanted to see live - even more, really. I remember my hikes for years, some of the scenes and people I met along the trail. It's like having wonderful paintings but it is live and you can enter it! That's the best way I can describe it. Sure it is hard and tiring, but most things worth it are hard and this is, too. Yup, the little Big things - and the Big little things ;-)
