I got a calathea zebrina for Mother’s Day... so far I’ve seen her go through ALL the problems you mentioned. I can’t believe she’s still alive. Thank you for this video! It was super helpful!
Just got my zebrina. It's so beautiful! Thank you for the care tips! Hope you can create more contents like this. I like that you are so straight forward. 🤗🤗🤗
Holy smokes, your video was super helpful to me! I purchased my first one a week ago (because it was soooo pretty. I had never seen them before). The first day at home, she was great. But not even 24 hours later, she she started to droop super hard and look really unhappy. I gave her distilled water, moved her around, set her right next to my humidifier and nothing is making her smile again. You made me realize, she is probably too cold in my house. Although I usually keep it no cooler than 68F, she might not like it. I hope I can save her. Thanks for the information!!! Linked and now subscribing :)
This was such a helpful video! I bought my calathea online and it got quite battered during the transit, have since been at a loss on how to take care of it and seeing your video was such a revelation! Thank you so much 💕 look forward to more of your videos
Hello ! Thankyou so much for sharing your experience and expertise.i have seen a lot of videos on prayer plant care but by far your the best. Thankyou so,so much.
Brilliant. Brand new zebrina. Browning tips and downward curling. {SIGH} Unpotted, and you were right! Horrible soil. TOTALLY saturated. Put it in a fresh, better mix and hoping for the best. Loved the video~
Excellent care advice for this gorgeous velvet Zebrina plant I just got, thank you so much! I will go back to school for a masters in botany if that is what it takes for me to keep this plant alive!
Thank you so much for this. Coz my Zebrina is all dropping its leaves and when I watched your video, it just give me a relief! It is putting up a new leaf. Actually uncurling. I was panicking! I brought my 2 zebrinas inside maybe because I thought it just needs to get out of the rainy weather. Thank you so much for this tips and care. It helped a lot to ease my worry!
I just got one of these today, so this was super helpful. I noticed you have a Calathea Ornata too; Safe to assume the care advice is basically the same? Thanks for the tips!
Yes. I would say the ornata is MUCH less finicky. The ornata has hardier thicker leaves. The main thing that will help you with this one is making sure they don't go thirsty. I have a small plant (it was delivered as a 2.5 plug). I potted it up a little, which helps it retain moisture more efficiently. You have to be careful with this, as too big will keep it moist too long. But, just a size up is usually safe.
In this video is old but I'm having an issue with literal Black edges, even on new leaves that are just starting to grow. Idk what to do, cuz i use a small amount of fertilizer. Cuz my maranta doesnt seem to care about the fetilizer.
Hey Claire thanks for this! I'm really confused about my Zebrina because it seems to be doing all these things. So 2/3 of the bottom leaves seem to be yellowing at a time and then shrivelling up and dying (although all the top leaves look really green and healthy and hardly any crispy edges). It's always the bottom leaves that are going yellow/pale or they're wilting and curling up. I've checked the soil and it doesn't seem to be too moist or too dry and if it ever feels too dry and the leaves are curling I water it with boiled water and it seems to revive itself for a few days. what can I do? I'm not really sure how to repot or what to even check for when checking the roots! Thank you :)
thank you for teaching us! Question: if zebrina starts yellowing leaves it means underwater right? but some plants if the leaf turns yellow they say it's overwatering...? source: t.ly/pynm
Hi Ken! In my experience, thirsty zebrinas will curl their leaves way before it gets to the point of yellowing. These leaves can yellow when stressed as a result of overwatering OR inconsistent underwatering (waiting too long over time). When in doubt, check the soil. It's good to check daily and at different depths until you figure out the best moisture level. This is why good draining soil is essential because it allows you to keep the plant moist without having it stay wet. Let me know if you have any more questions!

p.s. the boiled water isn't hot when I water it, I let it get to room temp
Help , Help, mine was so lovely and overnight the entire plant has collapsed I can not get it to stand up what is wrong??
I'm sad there was no reply to this, I don't know how to fix this either.
