- I’ve grown my Calathea Warscewiczii from a tiny plant to a huge one twice now and will continue to do it over and over again.
I’ve definitely figured out the cheat code to help this plant thrive. This video is full of tips and hacks to make caring for Calatheas so easy for beginners

OMG. stunning. Just started the video but I will be 📝 taking notes 📝
Thank you!!! We will conquer these Calathea yet!!!
Wildfern sent us over to your channel!! Love your plants. That calathea looks amazing!!
Wildfern is the best! Thank you for being here, I’m so glad you are enjoying it.
@@Monefsjungle She is and I’m so impressed with her acknowledging other plant people!! @wildfern
Thank you! I have mine in pon and it sits in water (from the sink, but I leave the jug of water with the top off for over a week before watering). I bought this plant with 4 sad twigs in February …it has grown tremendously since then and I will have to repot it soon.
It sounds fantastic, you’ve definitely cracked the code on keeping it happy!!!
@@Monefsjungle Thank you! I will keep learning from you!💚💚💚
Gorgeous Calathea 😍 The ones I have suffer badly for water but their still living lol 💚
Sometimes they just have to deal😂
yessss i loved planterina! happy she started her own channel.
Right??!! I’m so so happy she is back, she was definitely missed in these YT streets.
I used to have an enormous Calathea warscewiczii. I grew it from a 4 inch self-watering pot to a 10 inch self watering pot in Lechuza pon for 5 years. I used only distilled water. It was beautiful. I didn’t realize that it had spider mites until it was too late. Unfortunately, I couldn’t save it. I chopped it back and it grew tiny leaves and eventually died. I have a huge Geoppertia insignis (rattle snake) which I receive as a gift from a colleague when I started at a new school. It is a self watering pot in a mixture of pumice, lava rock, soil of some sort. I repotted it over 2 years ago but I cannot give it a bigger pot. I have a few other Calathea. They are divas but they are so beautiful. I want to get another Calathea warscewiczii but I need to get over the heartbreak first. Lol. Your hair is beautiful and you wear color so well.
Wow, 5 years is truly a lifetime in Calathea years! They are so so beautiful, you get used to having such stunning works of art in your home and it is so hard when they take a sudden downturn. It’s really tough how spider mites sometimes take over out of nowhere.
Wow your Calathea is gorgeous! I have stayed away from all calathea, but I am starting to get itchy about trying to grow one. If I do get it, I will be putting it in water.
Thank you!!! What a great idea, I bet it grows really well I. Water. Can’t wait to see which one you get and how you grow it!!!
I've given up on Calatheas but I will try again and follow your methods and only have 1. Love you channel. Not sure Amanda is with Planterina anymore but her new channel is call make it with Amanda.
Yes, you are right I’m so glad she is back and I’m really looking forward to seeing more of her art. I’ll link her channel in the description.
What a gorgeous plant!!! Wonderful job! and some terrific tips! Thank you! Fern mentioned you in her latest video so I had to come see you. I love Calatheas. I have an Orbifolio right now that is doing beautifully at the moment! It is actually putting out some nice big leaves. I tried to order a Warscewiczii off of etsy but something happened and etsy issued me a refund saying that company is no longer selling on etsy!! WHAT??!!! But I had been watching Sheffield made Plants from the UK and he has a lovely Rufibarba that I just loved! So I bought a real nice one of those. That also has very soft velvety leaves. I just bought my 3 or 4th (lost count, LOL) White Fusion. So far so good. I hope I am a little more skilled to be able to keep this plant now. But I am a new subby and I can't wait to see more of your plants. You came highly recommended. LOL
Wow she did????!!!! That is so kind of her, thank you for telling me, I had no idea! I’ll go check the video out. Sheffield made plants and fern are some of my faves so you have good taste! Sounds like you might be a bit of a Calathea whisperer!
Hahahaha you said “bobs your uncle” loved this video thank you so much Effie!
😂😂😂😂😂. Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
I love the warscewiczii, absolutely gorgeous, and it's hands down the easiest Calathea I grow. Mine does great on tap water + aquarium conditioner and it gets a little direct light early in the morning. I love Marphyl for all my "sensitive" plants, I've been using it for 5-6 years now and they do great with it.
Whilst I love the orbifolia too, it doesn't love me back! I've killed two so far and I'm not sure if I'll try a third... Maybe if I stumble on a good deal over the summer!
All my marantacea are in self-watering pots, they would not survive otherwise because I'm a chronic underwaterer! 😂
Good luck with the spidermites again!
I had a rufibarba for a hot minute that was the easiest plant ever but I gave it away it the end because I just didn’t have the space. Orbifolia is such a diva, worth it for the beauty, but I just don’t have the space or the energy for the thrips 😂. I think I’ll always grow a warscewiczii though, such a beauty.
@@Monefsjungle I've never had a rufibarba, but I love how it looks!
I don't have any plants with a similar leaf shape. Good to know it's easy going. 👍
One more for the wish list! 😉
I currently live in NYC, myself, and I'm getting a Calathea soon. Glad I came across this video and I appreciate it.
Although the spider-mites and thrips part scares me 😂. I've never dealt with either, but I know enough that I can agree that spider-mites are fine to deal with. But I'm notttt dealing with thrips ahaha.
I apologize if I missed it, but do you have any recommendations of soil recipe that's worked best for your Calathea for NYC's climate?
You will love it don’t worry! For Calathea, any standard houseplant soil mix will work. I used Fox Farms ocean forest for this one. Usually I add some perlite for extra drainage when potting other plants but that isn’t necessary for calathea, ocean forest is well draining enough.
Nice this
Thank you!
@@Monefsjungle I have been following you for a few days. Your video content quality is very good. But I noticed that, due to video optimization problems, the videos are not getting more views and subscribers. You need to fix it. Best wishes

Thank you!💚💚💚
i will tray in self watering pot, cos nearly died, just now grow 2 beautiful big leaves from next grow, me too watering just with still water from the shop, humidity im making . about 50-60 %, i got about one year, was big us yours, nearly died, but when i saw it a new grow in winter, i repotet and trying to save
Yes, the best thing about these plants is that even when we think they are dead, very often they do bounce back! Winter can be tough so I really hope yours continues to come back strong.
I put my calathea dottie in a self watering pot and it got worse
I would need to see the Dottie, and learn more about the conditions you have it in to weigh in. There could be any number of factors that are an issue.
@@Monefsjungle I put it in molly's mix. Should I use a different substrate?
Thames for tjis importens video, I have calethia to🪴🌸
You’re welcome, I hope it helps, Calathea are so beautiful!
