Burnt Sienna was my thought too! I ha a Chevy avalanche that was that same color which we jokingly referred to as Bob Ross Burnt Sienna and we named the truck Bob Ross!
yellow cartridges were made for Russian and eastern european countries for so called Dendy console which is Famicom (japanese NES) clone console, nintendo for some reason didn't care to distribute in this part of world so a 3rd party company stepped in and filled that niche.
The yellow cartridge he was talking about was made for the North American Super Famicom, which were normally always grey. Famicom cartridges came in a huge variety of colors and shapes, so there's no reason why a clone of it would have uniformly colored cartridges.
I get the name of the video is "Lookin' at Hacks" and watching you guess what type of hack you have is fun and all that, but it would be pretty cool if we eventually get to see what the most dubious ones actually are, in a sort of mistery video.
Since we have J&M Mondays and you guys got plenty of those homebrews/hacks.... then why not a series called "What the HACK is this?!"Im not into editing at all so dont know if this is even do-able.
I love the donor cart system from homebrews, great use for all those yearly sports titles nobody wants anymore, also sometimes you can get a slight discount if you provide a donor cart depending on the shipping. Literal cart reproductions kind of vary in quality compared to the original Nintendo carts, depends who makes them.
Earthbound Zero was cancelled for release because it was too expensive to make and too late in the NES era. It was later rereleased in Japan only GBA, Eventually it would finally get released in the US as "Earthbound Beginnings"
Charles F. Whoa, that's a bit of an overstatement. I'd say it's not bad, but the other games are better. Kinda like how pokemon red/blue aren't as good as the newer games today
do you even know the definition of a hoarder? a hoarder doesnt keep their shit clean and in order, those carts would be strewn all over Mike's place if he was a hoarder.
I love the dynamics between James Rolfe and Mike Matei. They always seem to be having a lot of fun making their Monday videos....I look forward to watching every week. The one thing Mondays are good for ;)
Ok, that is a fine word for it... That is why I said "kind of a remake" the main plot is very much the same, only biowepons is the explanation this time cause its resident evil.
That's possible also when it was planned for release it was around the time of the SNES release and like why Starfox 2 wasn't released was because they wanted to focus their attention to their new console.
It also fell under the same umbrella as Final Fantasy 2 and 3 in Japan, where by the time a translation and localization could be completed, the Super NES would have been the prominent platform, so they didn't bother.
Final Fantasy II for the NES had a mostly completed translation (I hear it was fully playable but would've needed the writing polished a bit). It sounds like they were planning to do the whole series but maybe the problem was that they waited too long (three years behind Japan was a pretty long time). My guess is that 2 was dropped because they thought America wouldn't like the growth system that requires balancing a characters stats (it was planned to be released at the same time as Final Fantasy Legend II, which was similar but dropped the negative part of the growth mechanic).
My understanding was NOA completed a lot of the localization for Mother. The thing was NOA wanted to focus more marketing on the launching the Super Nintendo, so Mother was dropped. Somebody managed to get one of the prototype of the NES version and it was leaked on ROM websites.
That moment when James finally talks about my favorite game of all time, EarthBound Beginnings! I hope he makes a AVGN episode or James and Mike Mondays video for it.
I love this episode so much. I really would love to spend a weekend with you guys and just play hack games. Im already making a list of the ones you showed to try and get them, so please make more hack episodes :)
Love showcases like these. Just Mike and James talking about games but not playing them. Kart Fighter. I thought I was suffering from Mandela effect. I remembered a Mario fighting game that wasn't Smash Bros. I was 4 in 2007. It was on a GBA wth a hacked cartridge with NES games on it. Thanks for clearing that out for me. However, I remembered it to be better.
YES! The Original Super Mario Bros. for a James & Mike Mondays. But I wanna see you guys try to beat the whole game without warps !! BTW you guys are looking healthy (:
I got excited when you guys mentioned EathBound Zero! Same with Sweet Home! I warn you guys that Sweet Home is a fairly long game, it's pretty much a RPG version of Resident Evil. Personally, I think you guys will like it a lot. EarthBound Zero is basically a fan translated version of Mother 1. Now you can buy EarthBound Beginnings from Nintendo for the Wii U I believe. I did a full playthrough of it and it was a bit clunky but I still enjoyed it.
Sunman is actually Sunsoft's version of Superman (obviously following in Batman's NES footsteps) but they lost the license and it was never released. A lot of people hate Superman games because they aren't true to his powers, but out of context Sunman and even the Genesis Superman are actually fun games! Mega Man Claw is actually sporting a cover from the European Mega Man 2.
Rockman no Constancy is probably my favorite Mega Man hack. It's a hack of Mega Man II and feels like an entirely new entry into the series. New weapons, new levels new music. It's a fantastic hack.
Sunman was supposed to be the home version of Superman the arcade game for the NES. Because of licensing issues, Sunsoft wasn't able to use the image of Superman so they replaced it with Sunman. Not sure why they never released it though. Maybe it was too close to the end of the NES's life.
"I played it with my daughter"
That moment you realise that you've been watching Jame's videos for a very long time...
Good lord you need to learn how to use an apostrophe. James' or James's.
I wish he'd have vlogged some of his life, kinda let us follow his progression. But some people like their privacy, and i can understand that.
All of us are old now :0
James has two kids now weird to think I started watching him in his mid 20s now he’s almost 40
Jesus Chriminy in Heaven he's in his upper 30's now? God I feel old now; I remember over 12 years ago watching him.
"- It's a Mega Man 2 with My Little Pony characters.
- How does that work?
- It's a hack."
lol
I could watch a several hour video of you guys sampling every one of these.
Nicholas Mears me too!
Absolutely
Start the petition, you've got got my 👍
Burnt Sienna!
That's the color of the cartridge at the 12:00 mark. It's a Crayola Crayon color ;)
Or Terra Cotta.
it's brorange. I know this cuz it's the color of my diarrhea after eating at this one specific Burger King.
Ocher
yep, that really showed how uneducated they are for former art students.
Burnt Sienna was my thought too! I ha a Chevy avalanche that was that same color which we jokingly referred to as Bob Ross Burnt Sienna and we named the truck Bob Ross!

The yellow cartridge he was talking about was made for the North American Super Famicom, which were normally always grey. Famicom cartridges came in a huge variety of colors and shapes, so there's no reason why a clone of it would have uniformly colored cartridges.
in Poland there was a NES clone called Pegasus in the 90's and cartridges were usually yellow and had the same shape as Famicom ones
Russian actually asked to produce Famicom for Russian market. Nintendo refused. So they simply created Famiclone called Dendy anyway.
Video games were never banned in Russia. Where did you get it?
there was a north american donkey kong country cart.
11:12 I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but aside from the game's name, this is actually the official box art for Mega Man 1 in Europe.
I get the name of the video is "Lookin' at Hacks" and watching you guess what type of hack you have is fun and all that, but it would be pretty cool if we eventually get to see what the most dubious ones actually are, in a sort of mistery video.
James, you are the person i want to be someday, not only as a youtuber or collector but as a human being.
You are great.
Ps. Mike is too
They're the reason why I started my collection, don't have a lot of money but after ten years I reached 750 games across various systems.
Since we have J&M Mondays and you guys got plenty of those homebrews/hacks.... then why not a series called "What the HACK is this?!"Im not into editing at all so dont know if this is even do-able.
Or Hack'n Stash
That would be cool.. like an AVGN spin-off about hacks.
Ya shoot them at the same time but release it on a separate today like Thursday or Friday. Let the fans decide your life schedule. Lol
Awesome idea!
And release the roms for us to play!
I love the donor cart system from homebrews, great use for all those yearly sports titles nobody wants anymore, also sometimes you can get a slight discount if you provide a donor cart depending on the shipping. Zachary Erickson its sucks, earthbound and the fan-traslated mother 3 are way better. It has cool music, though.
Charles F. Whoa, that's a bit of an overstatement. I'd say it's not bad, but the other games are better. Kinda like how pokemon red/blue aren't as good as the newer games today
Legend of Link is THE BEST NES Hack of all-time. It's WAY better then Outlands. I've been trying to tell Mike about it for a long time.
I would love to see more NES and SNES hacks, James and Mike.
i want to see some of the more obscure hacks... all these Megaman and Mario hacks are the same...
I would describe that color as salmon red, or maybe terracota.
The beginning felt like an intervention of a hoarder who James is trying to help.
Laycee Talbott Lacy
do you even know the definition of a hoarder? a hoarder doesnt keep their shit clean and in order, those carts would be strewn all over Mike's place if he was a hoarder.
Super Contra-ceptive
It works everytime
I Had just saw Terminator 2 when I played Contra 3, So I was running through that bitch like, " Yea motherfucker!, I'm the Terminator!'
😆😆😂😂 i laughed so hard
@@DrymouthCWW 65% of the time
Mother 1 was released on Wii U! A good reason to own a Wii U.
I wonder if it's possible to do what people did with the Super Nintendo classic and rip the ROM then play on real Hardware
I actually had a Dendy back in the day :) Its pretty much just a Famicom clone but back then it was the only thing we knew
USSR or a satellite state?
Doctor Wario World? I think that Mandela shit is affecting James' brain...
i think the yellow cart threw him off. XD
I blame Polybius 😂
Melson Nandela
That Rockman Claw cover is actually the official PAL cover art of Mega Man 1 for the NES :)
That color is called solid bronze.
No it's not because "solid bronze" isn't a color. The correct name for that color is "umber"
Id say its „rust“
rust is not a colour, umber is, google it
Wildeheart79 i dont agree
burnt sienna brah
This always makes my Mondays better (cause I have school), thank you guys.
I love the dynamics between James Rolfe and Mike Matei. They always seem to be having a lot of fun making their Monday videos....I look forward to watching every week. The one thing Mondays are good for ;)
You guys always put a smile on my face, please always keep it up!
Chronologically confused about that Zelda game..
I love the videos that James and Mike seem genuinely happy in. It's cool to watch two old friends chill.
the color is D05722
there is no name because it's not worth one
There is (seriously) a color called "Rebecca's purple."
How about we name this one after James's daughter? 😂
When they do closeup i'd call it "carrot"
Rust
I'd call it "brick."
It's copper orange. Car and motorbike manufacturers use this color.
Definitely play Sweet Home when you get the chance! It's one of my favorites!
Sweet Home is Basically the origin of Resident Evil... and Resident Evil 7 is a kind of a remake of it...
I said kind of a remake.... I didn't say a full remake.... Re7 barrrows heavy on the plot of Sweet home.... The creators of re7 even said so...
Ok, that is a fine word for it... That is why I said "kind of a remake" the main plot is very much the same, only biowepons is the explanation this time cause its resident evil.
Resident Evil 7 is amazing.
Sweet Home was developed by Capcom and it most likely inspired Resident Evil.
Resident Evil was originally going to be a remake of Sweet Home, but it changed in devlopment
James should have a podcast
Bob loblaw
Bub Lablew
Bab LeBlow
12:02 - "Name that color."
I'm going to say "rust." If not that then "tomato soup."
i'd say this is the bullshit color !!!
I went with mocha
Burnt orange when it's the zoomed in shot
Brutal Super Mario World would be cool to see.
I've been watching james for 10 or more years..
Since the age of 17ish until now. (Age 27)
I can't believe how long its been...
The reason why Mother didn't come to America was because it was getting expensive to produce their strategy guides and the battery backups.
MegaAnimazing *EarthBound Beginnings

The color is called "Burnt Sienna"
I wanted to see the zelda 3/zelda 2 game. Got me curious.
it's actually a level edited Zelda II, same thing with Zelda II Part II, think of it as seperate second and third quests like in Zelda 1.
That moment when James finally talks about my favorite game of all time, EarthBound Beginnings! I hope he makes a AVGN episode or James and Mike Mondays video for it.
My favorite AVGN episode of 2017 was your Power Rangers episode
Yeah , mine too
5:25
Mike: Its Megaman III with My Little Pony characters.
James: How does that work?
Mike: Its a hack.
Duh, James. Duh.
He was probably implying the concept of it, genius...😉
The color is rust!
It's umber actually but nice try.
Mike, just do a series with all your hack games. Seems like you got material for plenty of episodes. We would love to see it!
The Adventure of Link Part 3 Zelda II? Did Mel Brooks produce it?
Yes! This one, please!!!
Same here, the Gabeboy accessories was my favorite AVGN episode of 2017 and it also became one my favorite episodes in general. Truly awesome work.
These rom hack videos are always great
Better than all of your videos.
We need live streams of these games. It is life necessity.
I think the collour is shity orange.
It actually looks like cadmiun orange.
It's browange
Persian orange
Rust
Bronze
keep up the great work. sending much love from Canada
12:00 I'm really certain that the color is burnt sienna.
The Color is Sage Mike ..lol
Love the Work you Both Do.
Nobody suggested Guardian Legend Secret yet? I'd really love to see you playing it.
Abarenbou Tengu is the Japanese version of the game we got in NA as Zombie Nation.
Not really a hack, but i would like to see you guys try out.... Mega Man Maker.
I'm very surprised they haven't yet
As a former art student, my bet would be on "burnt ochre" for the color of that cart!
I love this episode so much. I really would love to spend a weekend with you guys and just play hack games.
Im already making a list of the ones you showed to try and get them, so please make more hack episodes :)
11:00 That's the cover for the PAL version of Mega Man 1. It's awesome.
12:30
It's funny that the poster of Samus right behind them literally has that same colour in it.
Looking all that those awesome Hack Games! Thumbs up
I Love James and Mike Mondays
That weird color of the cartrigde looks like bronze to me.
Christopher Kane looks like brick or terracotta
Christopher Kane looks like cheeto orange to me
I was thinking more of a spicy diarrhea. All grossness aside, that color is dead on.
Its almost terra cotta
rust
11:36 james says yo
Mike please stream/upload some LOZ randomizer playthroughs!
already did--months ago
What I would love is to see a complete list of all the Nintendo Homebrews/Hack Mike has so I can check them out for myself
As far as I'm concerned, that color is called rust.
I would call it Angry Orange.
Yeah spot on. I was gonna say brick orange
The saddest part is that those two guys are Art School graduated.
Brorange.
I really enjoyed this video. Little bit different for a James and Mike Monday.
Sweet Home was the inspiration for Resident Evil 1
Was going to say this myself.
and it's based on a Japapnese movie which is on youtube.
I hope we get to see more of these home brews/hacks on James and Mike Monday's. I think they are very interesting to see.
Wow I thought I had a fascination with Rom hacks that's a big hack collection
My god. I've been watching James for ten years
Omg, Super Robin Hood is a great game. You should try it sometimes.
Никола Поповић Better than the other one which was from the "Quattro Adventure" unlicensed NES game.
Никола Поповић my neighbor had the game. It really was a shiny gold cartridge with four games on it. I was so confused as a kid lol.
YES! The Original Super Mario Bros. for a James & Mike Mondays.
But I wanna see you guys try to beat the whole game without warps !!
BTW you guys are looking healthy (:
Mike - what's your favorite AVGN ep ever, ditto for James?
You've got to admit the individuals that go and change the sprites and codes to hack these games must be a genius and should go to MIT.
The color is rust, maybe?
Damn. You nailed it with a rusty hammer.
Glad my tetanus shot is up to date.
You guys have GOT to try Brutal Mario. Not really a difficult hack, but has some of the most unique modding I've ever seen.
Rust color
Yay another james and mike monday!
Theres a Atarigame called Thank You?
That one you got to play
Goddammit, the Polybius jump scare got me again!!!
Funny how Mike looks at the camera when James takes too long getting a sentence out.
1,000 years ago I do the same thing except there is no camera
James and Mike discuss games they haven't played. Fascinating.
Dude you guys know that there was a Bomber Man Animated series? I think there were games on the famicom which were based on it.
11:23 What you say a lot when you're colorblind.
Sunman is actually Sunsoft's version of Superman (obviously following in Batman's NES footsteps) but they lost the license and it was never released. It's brownze guys! BROWNZE!
The color name's actually "Sinoper"
Love this. Always wondered about the strange ROMs that appear in the endless lists.
Do a angry video game nerd on Santa clause saves the earth on ps1
Rick Flores I never heard of it.... Did you have it as a kid?
Burnt sienna? lol. It would be awesome to see these games played. Awesome videos guys
Famicom: Mother
Snes: Mother 2
Gameboy: Mother 3
Try to figure that out!
Bowtie Gamers Mother 3 came out on Gba... Try to figure that out!
GBA also had Mother 1+2
Rockman no Constancy is probably my favorite Mega Man hack. It's a hack of Mega Man II and feels like an entirely new entry into the series. New weapons, new levels new music. It's a fantastic hack.
Bacon color cartidge?
This is really awesome. Nice to see this
Random fact
Resident Evil was supposted to be a remake of sweet home
If you can beat all of the Mega Man games. I can't say anything to you. You're the most skill full person in this entire world.
"Multicart..
She knows it's a multicart!"
Feel like this could become a series. "Lookin' at Hacks" every week, like Wednesday or Thursday, you play a hacked/homebrew game!
The color is "red clay."
you're not even a color.
@@Wildeheart79 its actually Sinoper, idiot
