I always really liked Battle of Olympus. It just has a unique, cool atmosphere to it, and being set in Greco Roman myths is perfect for a game like this. Things like monsters, magical weapons, gods and demigods are all built right in. Also, why NOT make more action RPGs in the vein of Zelda 2? That game has plenty of flaws you could improve upon if nothing else. This specific style of action RPG is surprisingly rare, too. For instance, Wanderers from Ys is somehow the only sidescroller in that massive, long-running series (and the enhanced port(s?) of it aren't even available outside of Japan.)
Oddly enough I have played/beat this game, but never played/beat Zelda 2. Admittedly the game does have it's difficult points, but when I figured out each thing on my own (didn't have internet back then) I got a real sense of accomplishment. I like the music a lot as well.

The 2nd game I ever played on the NES. It was hard but I really liked it :D
I especially remember the fight against the invisible boss where you needed to look for his reflection in the water.
i was surprized when AVGN had told that completed "these and those" games, and here is real gameplay
This is the kind of game I like to see James playing. Wish they had gone further, at least beat that hydra. Even spread it over two weeks if they are too busy, rather this than some of the crap they play.
I would school these guys at this game! I'm a living walkthrough of this game! I know every trick of the trade!
This game looks awesome actually. Love these old obscure Metroidvania types before that was even really a thing.
Finally!! I've been requesting this for years! One of my favourite NES games
One of the few games I had for the NES. And on reflection, all of my NES games were the really, really hard ones (like Hunt for Red October and Zelda 2). Completed the lot of them!
I've owned this game for a long time... There's LOTS of grinding, and lots of "what do I do?" moments.
I wish he would Review this, along with Crystalis.
Oddly enough I have played/beat this game, but never played/beat Zelda 2. Admittedly the game does have it's difficult points, but when I figured out each thing on my own (didn't have internet back then) I got a real sense of accomplishment. I like the music a lot as well.
Yes! I was waiting for this. Great game, just hard as shit!! I loved Greek mythology and Clash of the Titans as a kid, so this was right up my alley.
Easily on my top 10 NES games
One of my Top 10 favorite NES games, perfect from the gameplay to the soundtrack!
My favorite NES game hands down
I loved this game when I was a kid. I still have my copy
Loved as a child, beaten as an adult. Yes, I needed a walkthrough a bit later in it.
My favorite game on the NES growing up! Hidden gem
The Conan t-shirt is just another thing that solidifies the fact that James could totally be one of my best friends.
I find it weird there’s a Temple of Hera in A Link to the Past!
Is Hyrule just a hodgepodge of all cultural mythologies?
Yes, just like Star Wars
This game is so underrated. It's what Zelda 2 should have been.
I'd rather have them be two different things that I can enjoy for different reasons.
@@Zeburaman2005 I think graphically when I compare the two.
@@Duke_Togo_G13 Oh, I get it. I agree with you.
One of my top 3 favorite NES games. Click retry instead of continue!
I had this game as a kid. I liked it because it was like Zelda 2 but I remember it was hard as hell and I didn't get very far. I've never heard anyone talk about it so I forgot all about it!
Thankfully it wasn't zelda 3 and we got the real zelda 3 the masterpiece a link to the past.
Mike has to play this game now.
THAT'S THE GAME! THAT'S THE GAME I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF!!! THANK YOU
you couldn't remember a name for a shitty game? gee i wonder why LOL
This was me! iv been trying to explain this to people for years
This game always made me rage. It was very hard, so to see James play it? Satisfying.
This is one of the best NES games ever. You both need more practice then try recording a video. At least use the walkthrough consistently.
I learned a lot about Greek geography from this game.
