It’s always difficult to work when someone’s constantly chatting away to you.
That thing in the oven is actually the bulb, it just didn't look like glass because of all the burnt-on grease..
Doesn't that happen if you over tighten the nut?
Love how you always explain to the customer
Exactly what's going on and what you are doing excellent
Always bend the top and bottom lugs out of the way for dimmers. I do it by screwing a pattress screw into each lug, bend the lug flat, then remove the screw again. It works well.
This is the way
Exactly this I have honesty never even though of rotating the dim module like the original switch was installed
Cheers for that tip. Normally just press it flat with a flat blade screwdriver 😂
Good tip... Thanks
I have never fully understood why electrical accessory manufacturers still make single metal knockout boxes with the two additional fixed lugs which in the majority installs are required to be pushed flat against the box.
Stay safe and keep up the interesting videos.
I got a headache from just the 15 minute clip. You did a great job, especially with that challenge
It's so refreshing to see how you have to search for the faults and how you sometimes screw up. And how in the end you always manage to help people anyways. That's the daily reality of any real electrician. The stuff youtube electricians normally don't show.
love your videos mate keep up the good work. what wire strippers do you use ?
You have the patience of a saint with this customer😂
You do need to be careful when tightening the nuts on some dimmers, some manufacturers use plastic nuts, also some have plates with flats on them to stop dimmer turning. With the oven a quick search on line will help the identification plate is usually located within hinge at bottom off oven. Often the glass cover gets baked on grease and can go a metallic colour when viewed by torch light.
I to like to explain to the customer if there interested.
Keep up the good work 👍
How do you bill the customer do you take a deposit and then bill when you come back to complete the job. I seem to often run into problems trying to know how to accomplish the billing process. Any advice would be good on this area of doing a job. Also do you go and get the part straight away or when it fits in even if it’s a day or two later.
not your fault, you should be able to loosen or even remove the module without it breaking, poor quality and not fit for purpose
Nice
Thank god he didn't get stuck in that oven! Seen that happen many times, unfortunately. Or fortunately. I don't know, I'm not an electrician. :D
I didn't think they was mistakes only learning opportunities
Rotary dimmers sometimes if you over tighten the nut on them it makes them stiff
Next time ear plugs will come handy or a gag.
Next time Dimmer module comes in to play.
😂😂
Mistakes will happen its not your fault hate it when people are Constantly grabbing to me when I'm trying to doing a job 🙃 it's easy to make mistakes!
you messed it up cause she was yapping
It's first time I've heard the customer offering you tea / coffee, not sure how common it is in the UK but is very common in Ireland, always offer the tradesman / engineer Tea & food !!
Pretty common in new england usa too
There were always some who never offered in Ireland, but is far less common to be offered now. I've always found Eastenders in London would offer and it's common in New York and Connecticutt.
Always get offered a coffee in New Mexico ☕️
Older people in the UK tend to offer a cuppa to workmen.
I always tap those top and bottom lugs in and flatten them 👍🏼
Wow talk about transparency! Youll be overwhelmed with work!
Trouble I've had with push dimmers is that the shaft is to short so have had to put a tiny packer in the button. Quite often.
Hammilton dimmers are .... I replaced them more than install them 😂
Should’ve really asked if they wanted the bulb changed before you went to the whole salers and if so gotten them one and charged for the job of changing it.
ya can't be too greedy trying to squeeze more money out of the customer for a job that would take less than one minute,.. if she already had a spare bulb,, changing the light bulb for no extra money... but as a "good will" gesture... the customer is more likely to call you back in the future to do more work... or even recommended you to family and friends.
Guareentee that those GU10s aren’t in J5 connectors
Americans lo! "Oh my god, amazing"
They just unscrew lol
i can't listen to this lady.
Didn't expect to see an American on here haha
13:30 Your erm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, your erm.
No wonder you made a mistake it doesn't stop talking !
Those “things” are called lugs and are easily pushed back using a flat head driver, pliers or hammer, so there was no need to re-orientate the dimmer module. I believe you over tightened the nut on the dimmer which stopped it from clicking on and off. Loosening it would have probably solved the problem. Once again, no earth between the backbox and metal faceplate, which seems to be a recurring theme. The oven rubber thing is called a gasket!
You charge £50 per half hour, so your apparent convivial rapport with your clients and time meandering might be perceived as a money-making strategy. This job was a simple 10-minute dimmer switch replacement and charged at your exorbitant rate of £50. But by conveniently “breaking” the dimmer, you had to revisit the job increasing your fee accordingly.
I’m also curious if you gained consent from the client to record her image and voice for broadcast on UA-cam. If the client was aware she was being recorded and subsequently that her voice might be the subject of ridicule, then she’d most likely have denied any publication. GDPR?

How much would you have charged to fit the dimmer chap?
I feel like he gonna be under investigation 😂
@@mikegmarshall Well I would have probably used a Varilight VL JCP401 from TLC at £15. So including callout around £70 or so? I'm based in Cardiff. Cheers.
Didnt earth the back box lol
It’s not required it’s earthed through the pins
@@r.v.dentertainment2015 still good practice
Is all your work 100% good practice? 😂
@@matthewmoody1978 if your trying to be funny try harder 👍
Depends if the house has rcd if it does does not require being earthed!
Don’t mess with appliances! Your not an appliance engineer😁
you don't have to be an engineer .... to change a LIGHT BULB.
Should have tried swapping the switch live from l1 to l2 on the existing switch.
