At the Pahrump Valley Museum, there are pictures of what Cathedral Canyon looked like, back in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Several well known movie actors (including the “It Girl” Clara Bow) were Wiley’s guests at his ranch. The nearby (former Front Sight range) property was a rocket engine test area, decades ago. The dirt road that passes through Wiley’s property that goes from Pahrump to Sandy Valley is actually Nevada State (highway) 16.
Is Front Sight out of business?
@@thomashelm6931 It’s owned by Prairie Fire now. New owners. Old memberships are worthless. Who would pay more money to go back?
@@robertfansler7800
Thank you for responding!
I actually had somewhat of a membership with Front Sight. Nothing big. Just one of their inexpensive promotions.
But seriously interested in the area.
@@thomashelm6931 There’s an informal Nye County range just off West Bell Vista Rd (on the right), as you leave Pahrump on the way to Death Valley.
@@robertfansler7800 Good to know!
Again, thank you for your response! Very much appreciated for the update!
Went to Cathedral Canyon in the early 90's. Simply spiritual experience. Especially at night when it would be lit up
Great place for a wonderhussy Halloween party...I'm sure her old boyfriend can rustle up some investors
Well done, a well balanced presentation of the issues with humour. You’re giving me hope that the Internet can form communities of interest regardless of distance. All power to Wonder Hussy ❤
Thank you WH, so much better than watching the news, you, info, history, fun, I need you🎉😂❤
Great reporting wonderhussy keeping your subscribers informed thanks for the video
The details are just not complete ,. who owns land ,and who's paying, whos gets the power,. and so on and on and on
I can listen to Wonderhussy talk about anything for any duration of time.
Same🎉here 😅❤ Sara!!!!
I almost can't get ready for work w/o her or Adam the woo
I can listen to her talk about nothing all day lol
@AM-xn5ys Adam who? Nvr heard 😕 😐 🤔 of em lol
Wonderhussy here where you gonna go now
I'm one of those old-timers who have been following you since before the old Cathedral City video and I want you to keep up the great work.!!!😊
Perhaps those holes in the fence with the mini decks on each side are for Roadrunners.
I totally picture Wile E Coyote hiding at the other side waiting for it...
I didn't see " ACME" stamped on it.
Yes!!!! By all means .... save the canyon..of course!!!!
If they do build a ' space port...
They should name it ......
The Art Bell Space Port ✨☄️🚀
I rode my motorcycle down that road in the early 80's at night and came up on Cathedral Canyon. It was very dark and I came up to that bridge and flipped the switch. I was blown away! There were lights, music, and waterfalls that just turned on with that switch. It was amazing. I was so disappointed when I saw the canyon more recently. Something so cool was just destroyed. Good segment!
I went to Vegas last week. Been a couple years since I been there. There's a couple big, ugly solar farms to the east of Vegas too. Driving back to Kingman, AZ, I saw a valley full of windmills. A buttload of them. Trashed out the whole valley. As much as I opposed Nuclear power plants back in the '70s and '80s, I'm having second thoughts now.
Went out there for the first time in 90-91 senior school year. Was super cool -suspension bridge - lights - stereo inside a little wooden box and all the canyon dugouts were backlit stained glass window looking covers .
Was sad to see it wrecked the next time I visited in2002
WoW
1990 - 1991 🤍
I got to go see it sometime in 1997 & everything you described was there still.
I feel blessed
They didn't care about Red Rock Canyon either. There were petroglyphs and rock shelters, with red handprints. The biggest petroglyph wall had ships and fish carved in the rocks. I have one of the last pictures of what was left in 1994. I imagine they are totally gone by now. Green Valley used to look like Cathedral Canyon, with a huge creek and train trussel bridge. Nice trees and deep gullies. Now Green Valley is practically flat. The hills and dunes we rode our motorcycles and horses to are gone. Sunset Park was something special, too. There were a lot of cool places around Vegas. To get out of the city wasn't that far, then. Top of Sahara Blvd was the end of town. Decater and Sahara were where we used to go to get stoned and watch the lights from the Strip .
Thanks for all the interesting and great information about your travels of the Southwest. It shows that you really care about the people and there stories and preserving the land. It's amazing how much you know about all of it. Great work.
My wife and I made a trip to Cathedral Canyon in about 2016. Just heard about it on the local LV news. It is pretty cool, but would have been awesome to visit when it was operational. But what is wild we lived on Roland Wiley Drive in Vegas.
Haha. Sarah's VERY animated. A delight to listen to. Most of the time.
Roland Wiley secured the remains and gave Quehoe a proper burial at Cathedral Canyon. My question is where would the Spaceport get the water?
They have been storing what wasn't sold for decades. That's why CA has a water shortage, blamed on the drought.
Exactly where have they been storing it?
Can his grave be a way to stop the development? He was the last of his tribe.
They dehydrate it, takes up much less space that way. @patrickschmid3294
I just love these wierd, quirky places out in the desert. Thanks for showing them to us and cataloging them before they disappear. Or who knows? Maybe you've just saved this spot with your Vlog.
I’m Happy I found You, You’re interesting & Always have interesting videos. 💯👍👍❤️😘
From what I read Quehos bones may be buried somewhere else on the property. What a great story Huss.
Don't throw big money at something you don't use. In other words don't go buy a new expensive camper if you don't plan to use it. Fix the leaky roof on the old one and get a big enough sun shade to put it under.
She should rent one instead like another person suggested in the camper video. Nice compromise.
I would still hang on to the old camper and slowly fix it.
Happy Belated Birthday Sarah. Love your videos.
I am just thinking that the USAF base just outside of Las Vegas might have something to say about a space port near Nellis !
Or they are part of it....
I lost a Sare Jane once.. you are a great person to watch in all the craziness we are in. Hi there from Texas
Great video as usual! Let’s hope they build the space port further away!!
This sounds crazy. I miss living in the middle of the desert. I like the beauty of it. Great video
Yet another quality video by the mistress of quality videos. ✔ And she's done some really spectacular drone views of the whole region as well in this video. Well done Sarah. ✔ And at the 10.17 mark you get a very quick glimpse of her operating her drone. I've never seen that before in any of her videos.
Great information, excellent video by the mistress of the middle of nowhere ⭐️😎🤩🤣
I worked for the Nature Conservancy back in the '80s. Their name for the BLM was the "Bureau of Livestock and Mines".
that window is where door dash delivers the food to the solar farmers.
You know what…. I think we need a monument to the “Hussy” out in the “middle of NOWHERE” with a Hussy hat and a pair of American Flag glasses, maybe on a Joshua tree or giant cactus…. Just sayin’… a true national treasure!!
Wow, I just watched a little video on this canyon, it was1972, really something to see, man I wish they could reconstruct it, thanks Wonderhussy for sharing😊
The more I watch your videos the more I fall in love with you and your beautiful soul and outlook on life keep up the good work darling
Walked that swinging bridge and turned on the giant circuit breaker for lights and music. Trippy!
A walk thru the contemplative garden had plaques to honor all conscious thot, not just religious beliefs.
A Cosmic experience under the Milky Way.
I needed a Wonderhussy break for my mental health. She always makes me laugh:)
Those strange holes in the fence perimeter according to the LA Times are roadrunner exits. 8"×8" holes placed 18" off the ground to prevent the birds from becoming easy snacks for coyotes. Go figure.
I totally picture Wile E Coyote hiding at the other side waiting for it...
Beep beep 😄
There is a huge solar farm in the middle of a lot of small rural towns, in central Utah, and guess who benefits? All the power generated goes to So Cal. But the water needed to maintain the panels comes from the drought stricken communities around it.
240 acres is approximately 3000 x 3000 ft............not a very big area for a space port and/or runways. It's also suppose to be built in time for the air races next year. Seems like a mighty big project to be completed in a year. Actions speak louder then words.
It is not what you might think. Not a place to launch rockets into orbit, but rather a place to launch those billionaire amusements rides like at Mohave and New Mexico spaceports.
Cathedral canyon must have been the ultimate full size zen garden. Ha.. Ha.
Wow I had the pleaser of seeing this with my friends just as it came out thanks heading that way soon love 💕 😅😊
Thanx mahalo
Developers in Las Vegas have turned some of the natural gorges into parks, wildlife areas, and pedestrian paths. Maybe they’ll do that in this case.
We already have two Spaceports in Southern New Mexico. Blue Origin owns one I've been to, but the other one has a shitpot of security at the gate and they don't tell you why you have to turn around.
I'm guessing the other one is Virgin Galactic: they've been up & running for several years.
@@Britcarjunkie You're correct, I confused Virgin Galactic with Blue Origin. We only go out there at exit 32 to set up our telescopes. They set aside an area for us.
The other Spaceport is affiliated with NASA I'm sure, but the security is tight with the heavy Chinese/Russian presence from across the Border. Our leftwing Governor did finish Trump's wall since the materials and money were there. Then she tried to ban guns in Albuquerque using the Health Emergency "Powers" of her office.
And one in Colorado, near Denver.
Does the other one tell you why you have to turn around?
When you drive up my driveway I’ll tell you to turn around with no reason. 😏
Hussy I think Vegas adjacent is a perfect location for a Spaceport. Considering the current condition of Cathedral Canyon I think that is a good location to build the required super collider. The standard government visitor storyboards will be amazing. I'm positive I'll be visiting. Although If I could pick the place myself, I'd pick Meteorite Crater in Nevada as my number one location. Nice video thanks for sharing
If you mean meteor crater, it is in Arazona
Arizona
Why not pick your own city?
The posting looks more like a collection of hogwash created by a bad AI chatbot... @@davidgale4604
Super Collider land is in Texas goofy😂 and has been sold off for many yrs. Time to get ur learn on !
I’m an Iowa farmer and they put up a solar farm on a few thousand acres of $20,000 an acre prime farm land near me. Whenever I drive by it I think why didn’t they build it on no good desert land.
Because it costs energy to move the power produced to a load?
because a very select few of folks are making trillions on money.
because the desert is also beautiful.
They did build an enormous solar plant on the Nevada / California border! The heat is so intense, it isn't safe for aircraft or birds to fly over! They should open an instant fried chicken franchise. The worst thing was CA spent millions trying to bring the CA condors back from extinction, only to build huge windmill farms that kill all the birds!
They want kick back from hipsters so that everyone can enjoy that so-called 'green' energy called Nuclear Fuel... because who doesn't want to be the next Chernobyl or the guy mining Uranium when the BLM is telling him its NOT ALLOWED as its unsafe to do so. They are playing shades of this crap everywhere.
Here in oregon they want to put up windmill out in the ocean .which is better I think solar
Energy production should preserve habitat. The Nuclear Reactors found on US Navy Submarines and Aircraft Carriers could outperform ANY wind or solar farm on a Kilowatt per acre basis.
We’ve had NO disasters involving SMALL Naval reactors.
Small Nuclear is the answer.
BEAUTIFULLY done....thx 👌😃
Save it. it's beautifull
I agree with you on these proposed and already corrupt construction going on in the dessert . It seems all corrupt to me .
🙌
Absolutely disgusting the destruction done by some cretins.
Well, Wonderhussy, there you go again, saving history from those who want to tear it apart. I still think there is a place for you in the Nevada/California state legislature to represent and preserve a very important piece of our history.
You make me laugh....'chain them self to a Yucca plant'. Thanks for another great video!
5:00 I am appalled that there is no government sign that states 'All Desert Tortoises MUST Get a Running Jump Before Crossing Thru Hole In Fence'..
The only thing I hate worse than solar farms are wind farms. A blight on the landscape, bird killers, and un-recyclable blades.
Happy Birthday 🎂 Sarah ! It was a few days ago....
So was mine (9/21). What is hers?
How can anyone not love this woman? I mean, she's so cute. She gets all worked up about the Las Vegas Spaceport -- and I mean really excited about it. And then, when she shows what might happen to the Cathedral Canyon, the spaceport becomes a little less than grand.
Thanks 👍 Wonderhussy without you many including myself never would have heard about this amazing content thanks again
Great video WH. Safe travels.
The tiny, rural hospital that I was born in, is on the Nattional Register of Historic Places. It is in Eastern Kentucky. It also had a Farm School, that my dad attended in the late '40s.
Who cannot just LOVE Wonderhussy!
She Allright
The problem I see is that the guy selling tickets for the Air Races seems to have some “colorful” history. If you google his name and the word lawsuit after it, there are all kinds of drama around it. For the air races to happen in a year from now, the airport would have to be built already, and practice laying out the course.. PRS (pylon racing school) usually happens in the spring.
Finally some comments I’ve been waiting to see how long it would take
I love that opening theme song
Another Sarah Jane production. Keep it up girl.
Fast forward to 21:20. Sarah Jane indeed! 😘
I’m so appreciate of your amazing history lessons ✌️🎶🤘
I live here and I oppose EVERYTHING!
I live in nowhere for a reason.
The solar panels doubled our power bill. Almost $800 per month!
The light pollution from the development will ruin the night sky. No more starry nights.
My grandfather lives out there on amergosa next to the dairy, it's cool you are showing the beauty of the desert!
Night time vid drop!! 👍🏻
This was an interesting vid. I have an urge to visit your region. Maybe one day.
One day... but not two day..
Lol
You are the best news reporter wow
I have been watching for a couple of years, now.
Would like more drone footage. You can find some spectacular things, and your narrations are excellent. You can focus in on things you've visited before.
First started watching your videos 5 yrs ago. My fav was Rock bar just before they tore it down for the Raiders stadium.
SAAAAARRRRAAAA!!!
THE BIG ASS....K 😁...HERE!
Keep the trailor, you enjoy camping and $ hi# is expensive! If something works for ya, don't fix it...or unfix it 😄
Better to upgrade what you have.
What a shame. The last time I was at Cathedral Canyon was 1977 and it was an amazing testament to what crazy desert rats do when they have nothing but time on their hands. I had no idea it had fallen into ruin. Love your videos. Heartbreaking, but nice to know it isn't worth ever going back to.
Always amazed and amused how Wonderhussy talks to the camera like we are there with her. Animated, funny, never boring, great voice acting, and of course, peering over the sunglasses for emphasis!
You grow in wisdom pleasantly Sarah. Keep on fighting those anti-nature sorcerer apprentices, it will make you stronger.
Nice video, good recitation of events. The Boogie man was accused of many things. Interestingly, when it was brought out that many of the crimes, incidents and other activities he was reportedly involved with happened at or near the same times And a good distance apart. Officials quietly, stopped making statements. Everyone stay safe, happy 😊 and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
I was able to see this place in its glory , when I lived part time in Pahrump in winter and lake Tahoe in summer , building Condos and golf coarse in the desert, For a few years . Camped and had peyote parties with a group of hippies finding native American religion practices . The place was great and strange and was there when you can light it up at night . Very strange and fun at night on that site and the ghost of the half breed was haunting the area.
OMG, what an interesting video. I've never heard of the place but you make it sound like I should go see it. Great job, one of your finest historical videos, thanks...............
cathedral canyon ...the old one...is one of my favorites
I feel the solar farms should be incorporated with food crops requiring shade…. If they lift em up just a bit it can be done…. Out there…… it just ruins so much
Klaus n Bill dont want that!
I think the little raised door 🚪 in the fence is for coyote dogs 🐶 to get through, looks 👁️ like just the right size. 🐕
I thought the exact same thing!
Looking at solar farms, I think the panels could be taller and allow campers, travellers, etc a shaded parking space. Or, would they dangerous to park underneath. Multipurpose use would be great.
It’s a good idea, I’ve seen it done on a small scale in a few parking lots.
Some solar farms are being utilized for agriculture. The shade provided is a good place to grow mushrooms.
China`s probably flipping a coin for it right now.
I guess the hotel & casino, and spaceport have figured out where they'll get their water?
Love riding the motorcycle to Pahrump from Sandy. Taking the old traction road. Been laughing with the coworkers, hey they putting a space port in the neighborhood.
Thank you.
This is exactly why I'm a sustaining member to Wonderhussy Public Media; the top quality journalism. Cathedral canyon must have been a really cool spot back in the day. Maybe some enterprising group can take it on and bring it back to its former glory.
I love this area! I started my alternative dwelling adventures in Jean and loved it! Might be back this winter even.
Seriously! That was EXCELLENT ✌️❤️🙏😎. They should hire you for The Restoration Committee of The Canyon and Historical area...
Both my grand father h grand mother's ashes where scatter by the suspension bridge. So sad if they demolish that place.
WoW 🤍
I was on the suspension bridge sometime in 1997-98 at night & it was magnificent.
r i.p
I work at that solar farm and what you are seeing is the next phases. Those holes are for roadent and roadrunner and the sort to get out
I saw, I clicked!
Me too!
Same
Yep
That's a very interesting story, I'm glad to have seen your video. I'm hoping they remember the men you spoke about. Take care and stay well.🤠☮️✌️
Curious where they would get the water to develop it?
There is a huge fedraly protected artesian spring that feeds the pahrump valley groundwater very nearby.
Steal the water from us here in Pahrump is their plan, plus this beast will only add to the noise and congestion of our peaceful town, place the thing out in Primm area, better there than here, Clark county is a sh>t hole anyway,
Hi Sarah just watched vid on Cathedral Canyon. Googled it and saw fantastic photo of what it was like before vandalism. Extremely interesting vid. Regards from Chester UK.
Awesome video Wonderhussy, maybe you could put together a Space-Port costume & be a Hostess!!!
I don't think you have anything to worry about. I believe the space port is planed for an area north of the solar farms and highway 160. You can see the outline of the land on google maps.
I enjoy Sarah’s knowledge of these remote desert areas.
Apologies for being a bit hard on you in the other video about your trailer but I want the best for you!
For the life of me I can’t figure out why some guy that critiques mouse traps has 1.8 million subscribers and you have 250k. The numbers should be inverse but what do I know? Anyways thanks as always for taking us along and for your specialized remote desert education! 😊
Shoot fire girl, i was a regular at the Canyon. 1984 first time. it was nice.
That opening in the fence is where you order cheeseburgers and fries.
