Andrés hits the streets of Seville to uncover what locals really think about Spanish salaries and taxes!
At Dreaming Spanish, you will learn Spanish the way you learned your native language, namely, through immersion. Simply start watching content at a level that is comprehensible to you, and gradually work your way towards more and more advanced videos.
As researchers like Dr. Stephen Krashen have shown over the past 40+ years, receiving comprehensible input, that is, messages that you can understand in the target language, is what actually results in language acquisition.
By listening to our stories, cultural expositions, conversations and games, you will get used to real Spanish as it's used in context, and develop a native-like intuition for the grammar and the vocabulary, together with a clear pronunciation.

Don't forget what the taxes in Spain provide, which we sorely lack in the US: an inexpensive and extensive train system, and health care that costs significantly less than in the US.

This is such a fantastic video. Please make more of these!! Street interviews are great because on DS we rarely, even at the advanced level, get natural, native speed/native level speech. Usually the advanced videos are still slower than the guides would speak in normal conversation, even when the video IS a conversation between two guides.
I sometimes feel that DS would do great with a "Native" difficulty level, though I suppose really once you've finished advanced, the idea is that you move on from DS. I think there's part of me that wishes once you reach a very high level of Spanish, DS can just serve as a content platform, rather than a learning platform, but I don't think that's what they have in mind.

More of this content! Thanks to the variety of people interviewed, the ambient noise, and the topics discussed, this is a truly "advanced" video.
I'm comfortably living with native content of all kinds these days, but dreamers from the subreddit who just starting to branch out are often shocked by the distance between the most difficult DS content and the outside content with which they're just starting to engage. This video is a great example of bridging that gap, which seems necessary. I loved it. I forgot that I was watching a DS video.

I work in tech and moved to Spain from a Scandinavian country. I find that in Spain, the salaries in my field are around 30% lower, but the taxes are almost similar. Compare to the US and it's of course even crazier.
At the same time, in the big cities, the cost of housing which is a big chunk of most people's expenses is nearly equal. I think outside of high paying jobs like in tech, the salary discrepancy is even larger, but maybe the tax burden isn't quite as bad. If it hadn't been for the special tax scheme (Beckham law) I wouldn't have moved here and when that runs out, I'll move away again.
Another big problem Spain has is the cost of being self-employed. I think Alma addressed this in an old video, but it's like the system is designed to be hostile to small businesses.

It depends on the job you do, if you have a skilled job (say for example Devops engineer or something high level in IT) then you should expect a salary to match your skills and experience. Its the same in the uk, I wouldn’t be able to live the lifestyle I do if I didn’t have a good career in IT that pays enough to have a reasonable quality of life. Delivery drivers, factory operatives etc have generally unskilled roles, by comparison with salaries to suit. So my advice to anyone is to study and have a career that pays well, instead of expecting to be on the equivalent salary for relatively unskilled work. Get yourself a profession.

@@Dan_Es. but that's an exception ( and for a country of only 6m people ). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_countries_by_average_wage . It looks like the avg for the Netherlands is above what I found in other sources, but cost of living skyrocketed and the housing market is pure madness. On avg the nordics seem to have a net income of roughly 3k monthly ( again, with quite higher cost of living ). Not to say that you don't live better over there ( at least for services etc ), you do, but let's not give false hope.

@@Benito-lr8mz That however doesn't change that it's factually wrong that "paises del norte no gangan 4000 en media" as the previous reply said.
That said., having lived in Spain for nearly 3 years now, I agree it's cheaper, but the difference is not as high as you would expect if you live in a big city. Rent is a huge driver for this, my rent in Barcelona is higher than it was in Copenhagen for example. If you live in a cheaper place in the country, it'll look very different.
