Well made honestly and you're right nothing else in the market !. Have a question for you if you don't mind. Will it filtered a 60 gallon aquarium no problem and how long is the cycle
You're so right about the variability in stainless steel. Some from certain countries don't do well at all. It will be interesting to see how this does. Thanks for the video
It seems that China makes the worst stainless steel and sells it off to America and other countries. If this was made out of a good 316 are better stainless steel there’s no reason it couldn’t be used for salt water applications.
Thanks for the great review, Dr Novak. Very much look forward to anoexic filter setup as I'm about to set up my tank again after a few years and have learnt a lot watching your videos. I've got an eheim 2213 classic I've had for 15 years and still going strong. Changed the impeller and ceramic shaft a few times, other than that its served me well. BTW, on the 2213 label it says 440 litres per hour. Thanks again!!
It's 100 volts not watts as opposed to 120 volts. You can have 100watts at 1 volt or 100 watts at 1000 volts. Surprise as a engineer you didn't realize that.
Very informative video with the pro &cons. Nice to note very keen insights into the weakness of the Eheim pipe connecting points so that we can take precautions not to break them. I will say that maybe there will be some priming issues with the ADA filter as the impeller is out of the waterline of the filter.Whereas the Eheim impeller is sitting inside the filter well below the waterline. And tightening up will further force more water into the impeller therefore easy start. I could be wrong, if the ADA pump has very good close tolerances in its impeller, and start will then be a breeze then.Just my 2 cents Looking foreward to your anoxic configuration in canisters filters. Thanks Sunny Tan
You may be aware but the largest Ehiem Classic 1500 XL still has the pump on top. They have a screen over it. But many take it off. It's really just cosmetic. I'm not sure about the smaller models in the range like yours.
When you are using an o ring seal you never pull it tight and use a food grade silicon lube. I like the as steal. I work in waste water treatment plant and we use a bio bed reactor for phosphate and nitrate reduction. I love your direction on building bio beds
Every manufacturer of canisters knows it product faults, and how to fix it, BUT, they earn a loooot of money with us buying SPARE parts, elbows, taps, impellers, sponges etc etc, that is where their income actually is..
Old Eheim classic was good. You could change pump to any other pump. Ether put super silent, efficient or high performance pump no problem. Motor of pump was serviceable and wss possible to repair.
Hello I have 2 Ada super jet filter one es600 and es1200, and both of them are directly plugged in 120v for more than 10yrs and no problem. I just don’t know why u use a voltage converter for those pump. Not necessary. Those gasket are heavy duty just need to put those silicone lubricant so they will not dry out. The motor will need to be opened and cleaned coz they will build up muck in them, I only do that every 3 months. Over all these filter are very good. I was like u who bought different kinds of filters and ended in trash I should I have bought this in the beginning. Great video!!!
The converter came in the box with the super jet 600. I never saw any video or anything that it came with a converter. Did you get a converter with your super jet 600? And you’re absolutely right, the pump is going to have to be cleaned out. That’s why I was wondering why did they put compression clamps on the pump instead of clamps that require a socket head or screwdriver to loosen up the clamps to take the pump off.
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums My es600 did not came with a converter and this is the limited edition 20th anniversary. It said on both motor is rated at 100v. The part that goes in front of the motor remains there no need to remove clamps. I will try to put a video of it or picture soon. Thanks. Oh Removing the clamps might cause a leak too if you take it out.
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Just wondering where did u get ur filter? I got mine at ADG Houston and Aquaforest aquarium. I would ask them too about the 100v converter if needed.
2.3liters is probably the liters the filter holds. Also you can't go by manufacturer flow ratings. Every filter I've ever owned are usually close to 50% of manufacturer ratings.
The flow rate of the filter is going to depend on the pumps head pressure. However, have you ever seen a filter rating that actually tells you the head pressure of the filter? I have never seen a filter tell me what head pressure it can take before no water flow. Why? It would be great to hear your thoughts on that one?
Is it better to ram water through your cannister filter or dial it down to maximize your filtration? I have 2 406 fluval cannisters on a 75 gallon med heavy bio load. Run full open or better to dial back? Running full open and no problems.
The ADA 600 is 80-gph @ 6’ head and the ADA 2400 is 475@15’ head . However, they also suffer from slowdown too just like all filters do. They run hotter than most pumps do too. They also make more noise than, let’s say than the Fzone 800gph pumps do. Even the FZone 6000 that pumps 1500gph , runs cooler, is quieter and will pump more than the 2400 pump does. The FZone 800gph is far better than the 80gph pump on the ADA 600. It cost $60 and comes with 3-year warrantee.
Hi Dr. Novak, I just have a quick technical query on cycling the BCB. I made up a new basket about 5 weeks ago. The kitty litter is the same as I have used before but I could not get Laterite this time so I used JBL Pro Flora AquaBasis Plus. The first BCB I made I cycled it by placing it in my aquarium, and this is now in my sump with only mechanical filters, doing a great job. The new BCB I am trying to cycle in a small tank, by itself with 2ppm of household ammonia added. 5 weeks in and no real change in ammonia levels other than topping it up with 1ppm a week. Do you think I have done anything wrong? Or do I just need to wait a few more weeks? I am heating the small tank of water but no circulation or anything else. Thanks for your help.
For one thing you should have circulation in the tank because the basket itself is not going to do anything without water being circulated around it. Think of it this way, that’s almost like setting up a canister filter in your tank but not turning it on: what good is it going to do? Try it out and let me know.
Ok thanks, it’s only a small tank with nothing in it except the BCB, I thought it would attract the ammonia into the basket from the water? I have a small jet that I can put in so I will try that. So there is nothing wrong with using household ammonia to get it up and running? The way we would with a traditional filter? Thanks again for your help
Hi Dr. Do you know high PH will cause corrosion or pitting on stainless steel? I have ADA 1200 mode and used for 2 months, see some pitting spots on lid of the filter on stainless surface thanks
Is there any salt in your water? Just because your water is hard the stainless steel should not pit even if it's 304 SS.
