    Oh man- I m putting the Anoxic canister filter to the test!. I have to break down one of my tanks and I m putting my 4 Zebra plecos in a 17 gallon ADA ... very nervous with such little water volume and me being very busy with work. Super pumped to see the results! Seems to work in my sump!

    What a great idea.
    Kitty litter is Bentonite clay, I use pure high grade Bentonite to clarify homemade wine, never thought to use it in a filter.
    It is "sticky" and carries an electrical charge, great for fine particulate removal.

    • @rockfella27
      @rockfella27 3 роки тому +1

      You need non clumping baked Bentonite clay for this purpose.

      I'm tired of getting disappointed buying expensive filters and then having something break or they wind up leaking on you all over the floor when you least expect it. And then they use these esoteric rubber gaskets that you can only buy from them.

    I watched your interview with Sean on pecktek last night and thought it was great. I am subscribed to his channel as well as yours. One of the ideas of keeping goldfish with discus is that while discus have a very short intestinal tract, goldfish have a comparatively much longer digestive tract. And to put it nicely, the goldfish will re-process the discus waste, breaking it down even further. And, as you said, they keep the bottom stirred up. But, I have never kept goldfish with my discus, so I can't verify that idea with personal experience. I have converted all of my aquariums to your anoxic filtration and/or a plenum. But I have yet to construct an anoxic filter with a canister filter. I am looking forward to more of your videos.

    Hey Dr. Novak, do you think if the cat litter clay and laterite were placed in a fine mesh filter bag in a fluval canister, the mesh could baffle water flow enough to achieve anoxic filtration?

    Hi Dr. Novak, Im have a 125 tank that has two half round corner overflows in it. I have BCB in my sump-already . Im putting in a plenum in this tank .Im going to use the reverse flow method on this. I need to know where should I put the uplift tubs or how many do I need in this size tank . I will be useing a mini pump that put out 35 gph do you think this is to strong of a flow. The substrate will be safe-t-sorb forty plants. Thank you for any advice that you can give me.

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  4 роки тому

      No more than one uplift tube will be needed per 3’ of tank bottom. That is all. You can do what I did and try to hide them. 35 gph sounds good per every 3’ of tank bottom.

    Dr. Novak, Nice filter.. a bit too much for my two guppies and 10gal😁 .
    I installed my biocinosis filtration substrate a couple of year ago folllowing your instructions) ( NO water changes- Thanks to you!!). And I tested today that i got a new guppy and to my surprice that Nitrate was really high. It is the first time i have measure it since i installed the Biocination filtration substrate with plenuum.
    Do you know any reason why my nitrate are high? Is there any time where the filtration system is no longer effective? you have mentioned 5 o 10 year since you change you, so I am a bit concern.
    I hope you can advice.

    Dr Novak, I've been following your videos for a couple of years. In most of your examples with PCB's and undergravel filters, you've outlined that the flow must be slow. In your modified canister bcb filter, isnt the flow a little high than you recommend for a bcb?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  4 роки тому +1

      The BCB or the Anoxic filter is not subjective too slow speeds like other filters. you can pump the water pass the BCB as fast as you like. It will work perfectly.

    Will you add a second canister that is only mechanical or will this be sufficient? This looks great and I think your justification for this purchase is smart! Should last you a lifetime. My only ADVICE, get yourself some %100 silicone from the hw store in the o ring isle. Use that instead of the petroleum jelly, because there is a subtle chance that it could deteriorate your o ring. Probably not noticeably right away, but after 10+ years it might render it unusable. Even if it won’t as far as avoiding “playing any games” with this setup I think a couple bucks for silicon would be worth it for you.

  • @GSP-76

    Great looking filter but it's very expensive. You could also get a Sunsun HW-3000 filter and cut holes in the trays. That filter also lets you control the water flow, which is great for anaerobic conditions.

      Sometimes with the Eheim’s you’re lucky and sometimes you’re not. You’re saying people have to be sensible when handling the filter. In other words, you’re saying it has to be “babied,” otherwise it will break. Then that’s not a good product meant for the public. It seems like too many complaints about Eheim filters breaking plastic parts too easily. Through the years quality and reliability have went down with Eheim like a lot of German products. I like Eheim but I have had too many of their filters break and leaked at maintenance intervals.
