      The reason I don't often feel comfortable building with large amounts of wool is how extremely flammable the block is, and I always play with fire tick turned on.

    I'm pretty familiar with survival and redstone, so a lot of these episodes are review. But I LOVE the slower pace when it comes to building, and getting to see the whole process instead of just a timelapse is super valuable to me! Thanks so much for your dedication Pixlriffs, keep up the good work!

      I recently realized that I really like slow paced survival series because I can see the process that the creators go through to make awesome things. I'm really looking forward to more of this series for more inspiration and knowledge. But I would also recommend watching GeminiTay's 1.13 Let's Build series. I recently decided to rewatch it and learned a lot about building and detailing just from seeing her process in such detail.

    Since this is titled a "starter" house, does that mean that you'll wait until you've found a village to build you next "full" base house? BTW, I do like the, what experienced 'crafters would consider, "slow" pace of the series. I'm enjoying hearing your rational as you go. Keep up the good work.

    • @aQuayQuay
      @aQuayQuay 2 роки тому +5

      I believe he means starter house as in people who start playing Minecraft can build this house practically right away with the given materials. He said he wants to use this space as his base in EP 4 and I don't think he waited until he found a village in the last season to make a full base, just as a frame of reference for the likelihood. I actually like the idea of having multiple bases, although that's a long ways away if this is the pace Pixlriffs is going at (which I love).

      @@aQuayQuay Pixlriffs is so full of creativity! I find my mind goes blank with constructing anything much more than my typical cave-based rectangle.
      I do build several bases over time, and erect a very tall stone pillar next to each base - with a 'pointer' at the base of each, indicating the direction of the next base.
      One day I hope to travel far enough over the Minecraft world to be able to 'circumnavigate' the Minecraft World and find my starter base again - but I suspect I'll always met a creeper or something that prevents that!

    Love the focus on basic building skills like block pallets, not using square foundations, mixing colors and styles. This is truely a starter friendly build using just the materials at hand or easily craft-able. Plus the scale of 'small house' is totally appropriate for early game! I think some builders overlook how daunting large scale builds can be for newer players. But this is a perfectly scale build for someone just starting out and includes so many good habits and tricks.

    Since Minecraft is such a wonderful sandbox, we can build whatever we like. Personally, I like an actual, working chimney, so I tend to build that first. With a hay bale underneath, grating on two sides and apron in front of the grates, wall blocks around a center space allows the smoke to come out the top, and fireplace views from two rooms, without the risk of fire. Kind of inside-out approach to building….lol!

    Maybe I missed it, but would love to see some explanation of placement of top and bottom slabs, and trap doors so that you can place things directly on top of them. Some blocks will sit half a block over a lower slab I think and sometimes I don't think you can place things on top of a bottom slab. I don't understand the mechanics and I think this Let's Play would be a great time to discuss this (he used a lot of slabs in the starter house but I don't think he mentioned this).

    • @lisa_wistfulone7957
      @lisa_wistfulone7957 2 роки тому +1

      That’s a helpful idea to cover. I hope Pix does- it’s much easier if you can See it. If you don’t mind, I can try to help a bit for now.
      Slabs:
      * The same slab material can be placed as many on top of each other as you want, in odd or even numbers.
      * With slabs of different materials, you have to picture the way a full block sits in the world. The layers that full blocks (like grass blocks) make, they never change. I like to use my crosshairs to show me a nearby full block outline as a reminder or guide. Each “layer” can basically only have one kind of material in it (other than air). Only two of the same kind of slab can sit in the space of one block in each “layer.”
      That means, if the slab you placed fills the bottom half of a block-space, only the same kind can sit on top. If it fills the top half of a block-space, (like if you attached it against a wall with space beneath it as a table), you can now put something different on top. The table-slab is the top of layer 1, the object (or slab/block) above it has actually been placed in layer 2.
      Trapdoors work similarly. A trapdoor can be placed against the top edge of a block, or the bottom edge. If it’s in that bottom half of the block-layer, nothing else can be directly on top.
      If it’s on the top edge, putting something on top of it is in the next block-layer, so that’s okay. ** But you have to hold down “crouch” as you place it, or you’ll just keep flipping the trapdoor!😅. Also crouch to put flowerpot, candles, etc on a workblock like a crafting table, so it will “place,” not “open.”
      Note: placing decorative items on trapdoors or crafting tables or even bushes differs between Java and Bedrock, so don’t get discouraged if you tried something that was actually the other game mechanic.
      I hope this helps a little bit. I know I had a million questions at first and was eager to start building! If anything I said was confusing, feel free to ask.

This is why Pix is one of my fave MC youtubers out there because of his simplistic and informative contents about MC. Note to starter builders:Even though pixlriff used slabs as his main outline of roof,it looks more aesthetically pleasing if you replace it with stairs..Yes,slabs are also a very popular choice for a roof,I'm not saying don't use it but if you are a beginner stairs may be a better choice
    Check out @Grian youtube video where he talked about roofing.
    You can get pretty creative with roofs, the most basic one would be using stone bricks stairs as the outline(the roofs which poke out of the main building)i forgot what those are called, and fill out the rest with wood of any type to add more detail
    Building is not that of an easy task,so don't get demoralized if are struggling

    I really really like these house designs PR! It hasn't seemed to be a problem for you, but I always have to avoid using wood on my first floor because creeper ALWAYS wind up exploding a chunk of my house away.

    For the roof i recommend using spruce wood as birch will look kind of pale. Spruce would be better for the dark oak and you could replace the birch with the spruce. But the house looks great with all the gradiants!

    13:27 Fun door fact: if you place a door so that its open when you place it and you close it, zombies can't break through it because when its placed like this the game recognizes being opened as closed and closed as opened

      I would also recommend watching GeminiTay's 1.13 let's play. It isn't a tutorial, but it's slow paced and you really see her thought process behind everything she does. In this video Pix used a lot of the things she mentions when planning builds, so it's cool to see the same things applied to different sizes and styles. I am definitely excited for more of this series. But I also found that especially for detailing I like how I can experience the full process rather than just having the process explained to me.

    What I would have probably done with the Oak Planks floor, is make them the Slabs you suggested.
    That would allow you to use that half-a-block more height for some headspace in the Basement :)
    Makes it not feel too cramped :D

    The actual fun in building is in acquiring the materials. Else most people build using basically oak wood planks or stone, which is way easier and straightforward. Getting brick blocks makes us get a sense of achievement/hardwork when the work gets completed!!

  • @RigzDigz

    Smelting clay blocks gets you terracotta , which considering how much more common clay is now, is a pretty viable option. Especially considering how rare mesas can be!

    I am playing Minecraft for more than 8 years now and I nearly always build my starter house straight up in survival and use the new versions block that are easy to get (like deepslate and calc in 1.17) and if I start my mega base, I am defently going to build atleast a big portion of it in creative. Just to see if I really like the idea that came into my mind and experience with all blocks available in survival mode to see which I really want to use, so I can farm them manually or build an auto farm

    You should mix in the occasional stripped oak log amongst the oak planks just for some nice variety. Would basically just make parts look more weathered either do to the elements outside or foot traffic inside
