I've been playing Minecraft for ten years and woodland mansions still terrify me. There are so many opportunities for the mobs to provide a jump scare, not to mention the viciousness of the vindicators. The evokers and their vexes are the worst, though. As long as you're within range, the evokers will continue to summon vexes and those things can be hard to hit because of their small size and darting movements. My usual strategy is to raid the mansion from the top down. I use scaffolding or otherwise pillar up to the roof and break a pane of glass to shoot mobs through the windows. After I've cleared all the mobs that I can see, I break in and use fences to block the room entrances and hallways. That prevents mobs sneaking up behind me and gives me a relatively easy retreat no matter what floor I'm on. This approach allows me to gather the best of the loot right away and deal with the worst of the mobs up front. Woodland mansions may be somewhat 'obsolete' since the addition of pillager raids, but they are still good for a bit of a challenge and it's always fun to see what rooms get generated with each one. Here is an easy way to find the lapis in the head. Go to the middle of the brown wool on the side of the head( maybe its the top of the shoulder), then dig 2 block high and then 3 blocks into head then dig up, the lapis will be 2nd block up. I do this when I find these wool heads in the mansion. Always love your tutorials Pixlriffs, you always explain everything so well.
I love the idea of a minecraft national park, maybe set up renovate the mansion as a visitor center for the national park? Fill it with some natural history exhibits or something? Those windows on the top floor had amazing views! Loving the series so far!
I clearly remember finding an Enchanted Golden Apple in a room with a winding staircase (7:18), but this room is kinda rare so it's definitely worth checking! :)
As someone who considers himself incredibly knowledgeable about this game, I find it increasingly impressive that this is one of the most thorough guides I've ever seen and at no point does it feel like you're actually watching a guide. I watch it purely for the entertainment value because it feels like a typical play-through.

Fun fact pix, these mansions can occasionally have spider spawner rooms packed full of cobwebs. (95 according the Minecraft wiki) then you can use the "Johnny" vindicator to automatically kill them (assuming he is in a position where he won't be hit back.) Then you have an unlimited string and spider eye farm that runs passively so long as you near by. Perfect for those mansion renovation base builders
Getting closer to 1M subs. You definitely deserve it, I hope it comes soon. You should remind people to subscribe if they aren’t. Some people just don’t realize they’re not subscribed, it’s happened to me before! Thanks for the great content as always. 😄
16:30 - Once aggro’d, Evokers have insane range and can sense you through blocks. So if you aggro them and run away, they will start spawning Vexes in your direction from outside of the mansion. So if you find one, neutralize it fast or you’re gonna make it so much more difficult to return.
I went to a woodland mansion and got rid of all of the baddies, got a huge diamond that was surrounded by lava, and 7 totems of undying, but I destroyed a huge chicken statue that was in one of the rooms, went to another room, but when I passed that room again, the chicken was back!! That scared me, so i left! 😱😂 Thank you for your exciting videos! I love watching, even though I play on Bedrock. Please keep up the excellent work! 😉🤗
And "Here's Johnny" is itself a reference to The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Vindicators come with Iron Axes and can be only upgraded to Enchanted Iron Axes.
A note that isn't particularly important right now since we haven't been to the End yet in this series, but there is one death that totems will not do anything against: Void death. If you're falling into the Void, of course, it's difficult to save yourself anyway, but a totem won't even give you more time to do so - it simply does not activate in the Void.
Looking at season 1, we're actually going at the same or even a slightly slower pace than that season - by episode 40 of season 1 he'd just done his first ocean monument, but had already killed the ender dragon several episodes ago
I play on a server with a few friends and the very first Mansion I found (using a Woodland Explorer Map) had 0 Evokers on the 2nd floor and the 3rd Floor had just one tiny room at the top of the stairs that an Evoker doesn't spawn in, which meant there was no chance to get a Totem from that one, which was a tad bit annoying given that was the whole reason I went there in the first place. Got 4 Totems from the 2nd one I found not too far from the first one.
There is another way to check for some of the hidden rooms/chests. Look from the outside through the windows to see if a window is blocked of from the inside with some wood logs. That indicates an empty room with no connection to the hall and has 2 hidden chests in the ceiling.
Somehow I was surprised seeing the thumbnail even though you mentioned it earlier in the week and I separately figured out it was the obvious conclusion
9:18 I bet in about half those rooms they *are* double chests; chests are bugged to not mirror properly. As a corollary I bet if you loaded up this seed in Forge, even with no other mods, it would work right; the bug is fixed there.
i literally found that place on accident. I didnt even know that woodland mansions exist like- I havent played minecrft that much over the past 10 yrs lol.
Fabulous Woodland Mansion fight Pix! Just watched poor ImpulseSV do the same today, but he experienced a glitch where the Vexes never despawned! Poor guy. He had to end up logging out and in again to finish the fight.
Two notes… 1) check above the doorways in some of the smaller rooms because they might generate loot chests 2) mansions are one of the only places to find an enchanted golden apple
Great series, I'm really enjoying it as all your vids. I raided a woodland mansion in my java world recently as well and found it a bit underwhelming. I think the hallway lights clear a lot of the mobs that would have spawned in the past and they are much less dangerous (still need to be careful) than the ones I raided in prior versions.
I found that in this case, all the mobs were hiding in the side rooms! Much easier to prevent later spawns of course, but they still wander out into the hallway.
It's even easier to cheese the mansion now because of the halls being lit up. Scaffold around the outer walls of the mansion, punch through the walls and windows and shoot any persistant mobs you see and drop a few torches inside the room. By the time you actually go inside, most of it will be lit and mob-free.
Looking at your video, I feel super lucky with my first Woodland mansion on my SSP. I had the hidden room with the obsidian "egg" that has the diamond block inside it, a couple of diamond hoes in chests, and 4 evokers (and, consequentially, 4 Totems!). I definitely need to get back there for the bookshelves though lol
Yeah, this mansion didn’t have much! The evokers spawn with specific rooms of the mansion, and my mansion only had one of those (the large room with multiple tables).
@@Pixlriffs I didn't know they were bound to specific rooms! That makes a lot of sense. I remember the mansion I visited had a lot of those big rooms. Maybe, if you ever go for another mansion with a Woodland Explorer map, the generation is more interesting 😄 Hope you have a good weekend Pix!
@@Pixlriffs It's good that you didn't follow the Woodland Map from the Cartographer, I play in your world and the closest Woodland Mansion is built on a lava lake ! I was here less than 10 minutes and the place was all ashes and cobblestone !
Totems are only useful for dying from falling or lava because if you are swarmed by mobs then they will just kill you after using totem because it doesn't give you that much health after getting used up. So shield are always better in combat but totem is more useful while doing stuff like bridging over lava.
I've mentioned before I have one world where a woodland mansion is at max render distance from a village that is at max render distance from spawn. Thinking of this really reminded me of the difference there had been between the old PS 3 version and Java. The biggest is that if a mansion generated it would be broke, missing huge chunks of the building. The second major difference is it had to generate close to spawn, or else it would never spawn. the last is it wasn't a rare structure and it was allowed to gen in and over things that Java blocks them from genning on or through. The last world I played in in the PS 3 version the structure burnt down from the broken gen letting lava flow from that armor room with the anvil (talk about major lag). After it was done burning I was able to see all the chests that gened (I believe there were 10) and two spider spawners. There was also a structure made of obsidian with a diamond block in it and surprisingly a few emeralds lying around and about four survivors.
Tbh i genuinely don't like woodland mansions because the loot here isn't as rewarding as how rare they actually are, a raid can give you totems, emeralds etc. Other than taking a mansion as a challenge there's nothing much here. But pix i absolutely love your content it's always a great to see you refresh my Minecraft knowledge you are one of the most underrated content creators wish you hit 1Million soon ❤️❤️❤️

I found out the hard way that Vindicators can and will break blocks! It really shocked me seeing it for the first time. The one you trapped was trying to break that block to get to you.
Thank you for this video. It really helped me on how to know all the rooms and which ones have loot and treasures. Also Which pillager is a Vindicator and an Evoker.
I ended up against 2 evokers and lost both of my totems, the first to a swarm of Vindicators, the second to the swarm of Vex that the second evoker summoned while out of Line of Sight
Most of the danger associated with vindicators is that the axe disables the shield, right? If you're caught unaware (you've blocked all the other mobs so far) you can get mowed down just like with piglin brutes.
Tbh vindicators dont compare to piglin brutes, with full prot 4 ur good, not with the brutes tho, they deal a ton of dmylg, most likely are in pairs and with a crowd of piglins
@@justspidey9945 It’s also the environment that factors in. Woodland mansions and where raids spawn tend to have much friendlier terrain compared to the nether and bastions (brutes also have 50 health)
Funny thing, currently you may find Woodland Mansions in biomes that are not in the right biome. That is because when the developers were reducing the sub-biomes in 1.18, one of the sub-biomes is a roofed dark oak forest which is one of the dark oak forest types and is usually where you find it. However the developers removed that sub-biome but forgot to specifically place these in dark oak forests in their coding. So at the moment, you may find these in very weird spots. This is noted by ibxtoycat on the Bedrock Edition of the game. So do note, Woodland Mansions at the moment are not just in dark oak forests... unless they fixed it... I don't know. Also fun fact, nametagging a Vindicator named "Johnny" will kill ever mob that moves, not just you. It is a reference to "The Shining".
I had no idea Vex's died naturally, that would have been really good to know when we accidentally triggered a raid on at our early game server base ^^'
Put down lots of boats to deal with vex. Works for other mobs as well, but if you drop a few boats around on the floor before dealing with an evoker the vex will often get 'caught' in them while flying near them and just despawn naturally.
I did put down boats for the other mobs but in the sheer panic of the moment didn't notice the vex's getting caught. I'm guessing this and the despawning is what led to our eventually victory ^^'
My base is a woodland mansion that I am changing to birch instead of Dark Oak. When I do this episode for my world, I am going to keep it the original Wood and going to find others to get make one with each Wood type, both otherworld and nether. Did episode 10 today.
I cleared out a woodland mansion, completely gutted, walls and all and then built an iron farm inside. I was truly sick of birch and dark oak wood after that. Although seeing just how vast they are while empty is really something.
a video on the same topic in the first season was SO popular, it got like 6 million views and is now Pixlriffs' most viewed video so far. will this video beat that one? time will tell. also you missed the fact that there is also a chance for a spider spawner to be found in a woodland mansion, i believe there are equal chances of there being a diamond block encased in obby/lava in a room or having a spider spawner(i might be wrong)
I've genuinely never had a spider spawner room in these mansions. I've seen it on the Minecraft Wiki, so I know it's possible, but this mansion also didn't have the fighting ring room (which has a loot chest on the upper circle), the checkerboard room with the loot chest above the door, the map table room... There's a lot of stuff we didn't cover because I'd prefer to show it on camera, rather than just stand there and talk about it.
i really hope they rework loot tables in the wild update aka 1.19 because the older structures have bad loot in comparasion to the new ones and the wild update is a great oppertunity to fix that
This episode of the series was awesome! Really enjoyed being a part of Chopping Tuesday and being able to witness such incredible generation. Your effort is super appreciated. Keep up the good work.👏👍

Loved the use of the Nether music (I think it was Rubedo?) as you were exploring! That music adds such a nice atmosphere, both spooky and contemplative.
The themed weeks have been a lot of fun! As always, I look forward to whatever you'll end up covering next week
I used both 'Rubedo' and 'So Below' as background music this time. Seemed appropriate for an axe-murdery house 😅
Ha! I don't think I have ever heard Pixlriffs say "..get your butt handed to you." before. (4:29) As Southern boy from the US, I love it.
The little I've seen from the scenery around this mansion looks incredibly nice!
Leads can only be found in woodland mansion chest in java edition.
In bedrock edition they can also be found in burried treasure chests.
This is so much different than S1.If anyone had watched the S1 would know that and im not
saying that its a bad thing in fact it is a really great thing. It wouldn,t had made sense for him to make a S2 if it would had been just like S1.
He is really going with some great ideas.Like the weeks for different topics like current structure week or previous village week.
So keep it up pixlriffs.
Thanks Pix! Love your new survival series. You are a phenomenal teacher 🙏❤️
Getting closer to 1M subs. You definitely deserve it, I hope it comes soon. You should remind people to subscribe if they aren’t. Some people just don’t realize they’re not subscribed, it’s happened to me before! Thanks for the great content as always. 😄
These are probably my favorite structures in Minecraft I always just remember exploring them back in the day and being scared of the vindicators
16:30 - Once aggro’d, Evokers have insane range and can sense you through blocks. So if you aggro them and run away, they will start spawning Vexes in your direction from outside of the mansion. So if you find one, neutralize it fast or you’re gonna make it so much more difficult to return.
So you're saying to absolutely rush the Evoker before it spawns more Vexes? Sound strategy, just gotta watch out for the bear traps 😆
Thank you for your exciting videos! I love watching, even though I play on Bedrock. Please keep up the excellent work! 😉🤗
Aww dang, without the recap, I'll have to wait two whole days for another dose of Pixlriffs.
Pix’s luck in this series is amazing!
I’m always looking out for the three diamonds 💎
Idk if you mentioned it, but the secret rooms can also have a spider spawner in it sometimes
Absolutely awesome! I look forward to watching your series daily! You definitely make Minecraft much more enjoyable! Thank you.
Pix , I would love to see you come back for season 2 of Empires, I’ve missed the narrator of the server and we need you to come back!!
Also dragon acid will kill you even if you have a totem as well.
I'm really loving the pace of the series so far! Slightly worried about the longevity but In Pix We Trust
Looking at season 1, we're actually going at the same or even a slightly slower pace than that season - by episode 40 of season 1 he'd just done his first ocean monument, but had already killed the ender dragon several episodes ago
"Then you're gonna get your butt handed to you by the Vindicator"
Love the humour Pix! 🤣
Loving the series! So fun. Thank you!
Doing a mansion this weekend. Perfect timing
Thank you. Thought I'd peruse videos about this (as I've found a mansion), but you've answered all my questions. 👍
i literally found that place on accident. I didnt even know that woodland mansions exist like-
I havent played minecrft that much over the past 10 yrs lol.
Fabulous Woodland Mansion fight Pix! Just watched poor ImpulseSV do the same today, but he experienced a glitch where the Vexes never despawned! Poor guy. He had to end up logging out and in again to finish the fight.
Two notes… 1) check above the doorways in some of the smaller rooms because they might generate loot chests
2) mansions are one of the only places to find an enchanted golden apple
I like to think that the Johnny vindicator is a homage to our very own Pixlriffs. 😉
If it is, they've spelled my name wrong
@@Pixlriffs They couldn't make it too obvious.
Yes! I've been waiting for a mansion video!
There was also a structure made of obsidian with a diamond block in it and surprisingly a few emeralds lying around and about four survivors.
realising I binged and I've been sat here for 40 Episodes
What a prediction!!
A really fantastic series that always encourage me to play
"I kind of want to turn this into a national park, but I'm not sure what I would build here."
Congratulations! You're already done!
enjoyed this week videos alot
What is fun is that people search for secret rooms, but there aren't any secret rooms if there is no mansion to begin with
*take out flint and steel*
Grain needed this so close yet so far
Pix proceeds to pillage illagers possibly perishing in a palace of sorts

Just found one of these randomly. Definitely a WTF moment when I saw it!
Bro I have seen all your video since 2019 keep going bro wish you the best
well let′s see if this video also explodes like your previous woodland mansion one did. definitely has the same high quality :)
Woodland Mansions feel like a legacy thing at this point. They're iconic, but the addition of raids in 1.14 made them basically obsolete.
@@Pixlriffs Exactly
Pix you rock!!

I found out the hard way that Vindicators can and will break blocks! It really shocked me seeing it for the first time. The one you trapped was trying to break that block to get to you.
Besides wooden doors, I don’t think vindicators can break blocks (they have an axe, but that’s mostly as a weapon)
You can also find chained armor in buried treasure chests as well.
Thank you for this video. It really helped me on how to know all the rooms and which ones have loot and treasures. Also Which pillager is a Vindicator and an Evoker.
Plus what all the rooms are for. As in dungeon rooms, meeting areas and more
I ended up against 2 evokers and lost both of my totems, the first to a swarm of Vindicators, the second to the swarm of Vex that the second evoker summoned while out of Line of Sight
Other than totems, woodland mansions don't have the best loot. They do have the most lore in Minecraft.
But that’s just a theory. A… GAME THEORY!
I like them because of the lore and the general creepy and ominous atmosphere as well as the weird rooms. I don’t really care about the loot
They have secret rooms where they have a Diamond Block
When I found a mansion in my biome the cat DID have loot in it like the other wool sculpture. I don't recall if it was in his head or backside. Lol!
@@dtslawyer6970 yes
Woodland mansion have alot of good stuff but dangerous
Just wait til this video blow up again.
I've only seen the chicken and cat statues in the mansions, never the others
My base is a woodland mansion that I am changing to birch instead of Dark Oak. When I do this episode for my world, I am going to keep it the original Wood and going to find others to get make one with each Wood type, both otherworld and nether.
Did episode 10 today.
love your survival guide!!
I cleared out a woodland mansion, completely gutted, walls and all and then built an iron farm inside. I was truly sick of birch and dark oak wood after that. Although seeing just how vast they are while empty is really something.
Awesome Tutorials!
a video on the same topic in the first season was SO popular, it got like 6 million views and is now Pixlriffs' most viewed video so far. will this video beat that one? time will tell.
also you missed the fact that there is also a chance for a spider spawner to be found in a woodland mansion, i believe there are equal chances of there being a diamond block encased in obby/lava in a room or having a spider spawner(i might be wrong)
@@Pixlriffs so will there be another video regarding woodland mansions?? looking forward to that too!!!
Just when I thought of you
What a timing 💥
Pillagers seem to love you very much :D
i really hope they rework loot tables in the wild update aka 1.19 because the older structures have bad loot in comparasion to the new ones and the wild update is a great oppertunity to fix that
You're a perfect gamer of minecraft
Only one evoker, lucky! Though even one is almost too much for me.
Hey Pix, love this series. When are you going to beat the ender dragon? You are so stacked it would be easy.
This episode of the series was awesome! Really enjoyed being a part of Chopping Tuesday and being able to witness such incredible generation. Your effort is super appreciated. Keep up the good work.👏👍
I always hope to find one… no luck yet but I shall keep trying 🤗🤗
I think the wool sculptures are of villagers, not illagers, since they have unibrows
Could've sworn I had the mansion raid for 1.16 just the other day in my recommendations.
