I love that Real Nega is the second track. 1539 is an amazing song that also gives the listener a false sense of security, then Real Nega comes in like "you really thought you were ready for Veteran?" From a chill trap banger with fairly aggressive delivery to a crescendo of ODB's throat noises, then the completely over the top, barely comprehensible drums come in and Peggy gets animalistic. The beautiful borderline ambient guitar at the end makes the experience even better, when the drums drop out and it's just that guitar and ODB you finally begin to understand: "I just experienced Real Nega."
Fun fact for you Jon: Panic Emoji was recorded on the spot while peggy was having a panic attack in a bathtub. That sound in the background is the water running from the vocal recording

please listen to The Money Store by Death Grips!! it's an incredibly experimental and industrial hip hop album that was released in 2012. it was anthony fantano's first 10, and once you take a look at their discography for the first time, you're in for a ride. it'd make for a great reaction video since they're so untangible and complex and non-traditional, please consider it!
Yo you definitely need to check out the "A Colors Show" version of Thug Tears aswell if you find the time. That's how I experienced the track for the first time and damn it's just so aggressive and in your face.
Loving the content Jon! The square album cover behind you looks way better like that. A 4:3 box. It just looks smooth as hell and the symmetry stands out.
When you said that "the production is posing questions to you" by being so abstract, that kinda hit me. Never thought of Veteran in that kind of organic way.
Please listen to Black Up by Shabazz Palaces! It's an amazing futuristic rap album that definitely will intrigue you since it's like NOTHING else out there. Cheers Geoff
This is cool. I normally hate reaction channels because their commentary is so surface level and uninsightful, but your comments are actually well reflected and you articulate your thoughts well. Cool stuff.
In the span of time between late-January of 2018 and now JPEGMAFIA has become one of my favourite artists of all time. I was introduced to Veteran (how many others were I'm sure) through Anthony Fantano's review of the album. Off of his description of the album alone I knew it was something up my alley. Keep in mind some of my favourite artists prior are in the experimental rap field like: clipping, Death Grips, MF DOOM, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Cannibal Ox, Denzel Curry. On first listen I was hooked by him, the line mentioning Myke C Town from Dead End Hip Hop got me, and I was enthralled the entire way through. It became an album that I would turn on and I wouldn't skip a moment through. So many great albums came out through the year like Flatbush Zombies' Vacation in Hell, SOPHIE's OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES, Death Grips' Year of the Snitch, Denzel Curry' TA1300, KIDS SEE GHOSTS, ye, Earl Sweatshirt's Some Rap Songs, to name a few. Peggy stayed on top strong all the way through the year, placing #1 on my top 42 albums of 2018. I also went back in his catalog after listening to Veteran and wasn't disappointed by 2016's The 2nd Amendment with Freaky, and earlier that same year on Black Ben Carson. Though I don't think either of those albums is on the same level as Veteran, they both show a great sign of what's to come, and the trajectory of an artist showing fragments of genius. The 2nd Amendment is definitely slept on in my opinion. Black Ben Carson is a bit long-winded but there's plenty of great tracks to take from it like All Caps No Spaces, I Smell Crack, Black Ben Carson, I Just Killed a Cop Now I'm Horny, What's Crackin'. Kinda disappointed you didn't start the JPEGMAFIA SZN earlier to get the reactions to the earlier albums but I understand you wanting to listen to them before the new album comes out tonight. Thank you for reacting to this album though because i believe it will go down as a classic in the experimental rap field and definitely worth getting done so you can experience All My Heroes Are Cornballs with us. I highly recommend getting a clipping SZN done before their new album comes on October 18th. We will all be here for it if you do a reaction of their albums in chronology. I would use catchy titles like midcity Monday, CLPPNG Tuesday, Wriggle Wednesday, Splendor and Misery Thursday. Then you'd be caught up on another amazing rap group in time for their newest debut on Friday with There Existed an Addiction to Blood. Also Danny Brown would be a good one two weeks prior. He is dropping his next album titled uknowwhatimsayin¿ on October 4th. It's produced by El-P, a fantastic artist who is part of Run the Jewels and Company Flow, and has produced great albums for Cannibal Ox and Aesop Rock. Danny Brown has 3 studio albums so far that are all very good in my opinion. XXX, Old, and Atrocity Exhibition are all worth reactions for sure. This comment has been long af, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

one of the main things about Peggy is that not everything he makes is meant to be serious. he makes tracks for shots at one or two people, or a group, and just makes it a laugh for everyone else. it’s amazing how he does it, in my opinion. i still don’t understand how he can make something like Germs sound sonically pleasing, but he does it. i love his music because i used to listen to basic music, very very basic music, and then i got bored. i moved into hardcore music, and then found this. this is one of my favorite albums of all time, and i wouldn’t want it any other way. thank you for reviewing it John.
Veteran was so weird when i first heard it, but now it's in my top 5 albums of 2018. The weirdness and unhinged feeling just kinda works. He's a veteran. It may be incomprehensible, it may be quite sad actually.
