It's from the Masked Singer, a show where celebrities compete in singing, masked in costumes. They get a chance to sing every week and one singer ( or group of singers) gets voted off each week and get unmasked, then the eliminated one(s) get to sing a song unmasked as their bowing out piece. Pentatonix entered as the California Rolls ( sushi rolls) and sang 5 songs until they were voted off in the semi-finals. Not sure why they lost, but this was their bowing out piece. They'd sung it masked a couple of weeks prior. It's short because the show has a time constraint on all the songs, so the arrangement has to deal with that. Likely they decided to enter the show for the publicity, and it worked.
PTX does have an audio only of the same short song they released about two weeks ago.I'm hoping they re-arrange this and Paparazzi ( another song they did for the show) into a longer format and make official videos of them. They are including Creep in their current tour sets.

I had read that they asked to be eliminated then because of touring schedules. I can't confirm this. I certainly can't fathom them actually being voted off. They were far and beyond better than the last two competitors, hands down.

Here is something big to keep in mind: Of all of the performers that have ever been on The Masked Singer, Pentatonix is the ONLY one that had their entire "swan song" broadcast at the end of the episode. All others were cut off as the credits ended. It may have been part of the deal made when they sign up for the show. Who knows.
Mitch is just beyond amazing! Pentatonix are out of this world good but I have such a soft spot for Mitch.
The show is “The Masked Singer.” The basics of the show (as far as I can figure out): celebrities wear elaborate costumes to disguise their identities and sing until they lose the audience vote, when their take their masks off. PTX was on the most recent season (9th), and they finished 3rd. (There is some speculation that they chose to bow out in the semi-finals due to their touring schedule, but I have no concrete info.) This was their exit song.
I agree with the speculation. It seems orchestrated because right after they got voted out, they released their audio version of Creep, and then they were prepared to include Creep in some of their ongoing Europe tour shows. Had they stayed on the show for the next 2 weeks, they would have lost the opportunity to perform Creep on tour. This is not to take away the magic of their perfomance, it was mind blowing both masked and unmasked!

Currently there are 3 versions of this upgrade. The original Masked Singer performance, the audio version that PTX released, and this one. Of the 3, this is the best. The Mitch slaps are epic. Mostly because even the judges thought that Kirstie was going to be the singer hitting those notes. However, 99.9% of the pentaholics watching knew that it was PTX 2 seconds into paparazzi.
My favorite version by far!!! LOVE THIS! I love people's faces when Mitch hits those notes! It never gets old.
I personally love the Masked Singer. It's fun to try and guess the voices behind the mask. Sometimes it's someone you had no idea could sing well. For example T-Pain was the Season 1 winner. And from what I understand, people who followed T-Pain closely knew he could sing well. But a lot of people didn't know this about him. Then you have times where it's just someone reminding you how great they are like LeAnne Rimes in Season 4. I still don't think anyone on the show has even come close to delivering the kind of vocal performance she did.

Tee hee, I try to maintain a Mitch face too, but, you know … The Masked Singer has featured some legit singers (Gladys Knight comes to mind) as well as celebrities of some ilk who either can sing or think they can sing, so it’s a real grab bag of talent. They are completely disguised by costumes with their identities revealed only when they are voted off. PTX came in third just a few weeks ago and they repeated this song, which they had performed earlier in disguise. If you want to hear more of Scott Hoying, who takes lead in Creep, check out an original called Mars that he released late last year. He’s just a beast, especially in the choir version of the song. They were the California Roll. This performance was after they were voted off. They came in 3rd place which I think was wrong because they should have won. You should react to the clip that has all of their performances before they were voted off. You will love it.
All of us PENTAHOLICS get re-Mitch-slapped from time to time. Well - the majority of times - over and over. He is an angel voice.

PTX... everyone knows they should have won! But rumor is, they were "voted off" because they have a tour to start. So, it was already arranged... this was just some publicity. They are flawless!
Loved your reaction! They competed on the show. They’re is a compilation of them in their costumes, Thai was from when they were unmasked. I actually don’t like the shows format, but I watched every episode PTX was in.

And they came in 3rd.... LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you've never done their Popspring 2016 3 originals and MJ evolution, LIVE. It's a costumed contest where the artists perform costumed and the judges try to guess who they are. The "audience" then votes on the contestants and winners move on. They took 3rd behind Michael archuleta and 1st place yelling woman...she wasn't that bad but just seemed to yell a lot LOL. It's actually a fun show. If you get the chance I think their greatest performance was put on by the Sun, Whatever season she was, 4th i think.

Pentatonix makes everything they sing their own. This is so different - and I have to admit, I like it better than the original! (btw, there is no "lead" in this group; part of their strength is their generosity with their arrangements)
