The reactions to this on social media were hysterical. People who aren't familiar with the group were complaining about the bad lip-synching ... because "the girl's lips weren't moving when you could hear her voice." Of course it was Mitch Grassi, the countertenor, that they were hearing, not mezzo-soprano Kirstin Maldonado.
Mitch's vocal timbre is so unique, if I hear a vocal group that could be Pentatonix, but I'm not sure, (assuming Scott isn't performing his vocal gymnastic runs, which would be a dead give-away), I focus my ears to listen for Mitch. Nobody can duplicate that sound. That's why "California Rolls" on "The Masked Singer" is the worst kept secret on TV, lol. I loved this arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner. They respectfully put their stamp on it like bosses. 🇺🇸 Great reaction!
Fantastic reaction. Matt's bass was incredible! Scott does have a strong and consistent quality on his vocals. Wild is a great word for Mitch's capabilities. Kevin has a lovely tenor voice when he isn't needed on beatboxing, and Kirstie was lovely at the high harmonies.
Also, to answer, to learn "how do they do that?" take a reaction review of The Making of Evergreen. It follows Pentatonix into the studio for their 2022 Holiday Album.
Seconded. This is a great view of them arranging, practicing, and recording.
They did the darn thing for sure! Enough flourish to leave their mark, but otherwise just staight forward talent and vocals! Scott did the arrangement for this. He said he looked at the most popular ones and realized they were the ones in the higher range. Which in his words was risky but worked out.
You're so right in that they are individually talented enough to do it solo so the fact that they decide to put their focus on a group is even more astounding (they all have their side solo stuff though to fill that bucket!)
Mitch (guy in white) singing made many a confused person on twitter accuse them of lipsyncing "cause the woman isnt even holding her mic up" 😂

@@aintnoway3124 he did a livestream on maybe UA-cam about his single mars.... If I remember correctly. The camera ended up not working haha. I think some fan recorded most of it and put it on youtube but im not sure!
Mitch in the white is a very rare counter tenor and he's a rare voice even among that group. His voice is so unique and yet has the power to draw such emotion from the audience along with his perfect pronunciation, he never fails to illicit astonishment from new listeners. Z
Also fyi, Space force is a trump Era creation. Not to be confused with the defunct Reagan Era star wars program. (Not the movie). What exactly space force does (protect against the imperial armada or romulan incursion, or some super secret putin attack spaceship) who knows?
The guy in blue, who you called the lead singer, is Scott Hoying. He has actually recently released a single under his own name called "Mars" - since you mentioned that he might be really good on his own.
You should listen to Scott Hoying’s first solo song Mars but the version with a choir. Insane vocals!!
I didn’t realize you were such a Pentatonix fan, but I sure am glad to know that! If you have not yet seen it, check out Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King, or their cover of John Lennon’s Imagine … or, as you said, pretty much any song of theirs. Come Along is a fun bop, and their ‘90s Dance Medley is good too. Loved your reaction to the national anthem! Peace …

So.... there's tons of PTX things you SHOULD be reacting to vocally. I'd like to also put in that you should listen to Superfruit (Scott and Mitch from Pentatonix doing more edgy, LGTBQ, and quirky arrangements), specifically their cover of Katy Perry's RISE, with guest vocalists Brian Justin Crum, Mario Jose, and Mary Lambert in response to the Pulse Nightclub massacre in 2016. It is considered to be an absolute upgrade on the original, and a vocally stunning masterwork.
