No make that two things in common: They both also have a V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower. So of course we couldn't help but wonder which of these very luxurious vehicles is better when the road turns muddy and rough in the Colorado Mountains. I just bought a 2011 qx56 looked at the Tahoe ltz denali, and escolade, the infiniti by far blows them all away! and just traded it in for my 2009 range rover, no comparison the qx56 is the best truck!!! go buy one!

I just bought one as well. Best vehicle purchase I've ever made. Not to mention the most complimented. It's gorgeous. The model got one or two negative comments on appearance when it first came out, and clearly these guys read the article and regurgitate the opinion they were told to have...That's a sheep for ya!
The thing they missed in this review is that the QX56 is actually based on the Nissan Patrol, which is considered one of the best off-roaders in the world....

For the same reason that Porsche installed multiple locking differential in the Cayenne S...because that's what the vehicle was designed to do...go off-road. Just because most owners won't take them off-road does not mean they can't go off-road, or shouldn't go off-road.

Why is 1 of the side Mirrors smaller than the Drivers side? Because they're usually the same size on both sides?

The previous generation Touareg (Cayenne twin - as you mentioned) was actually doing pretty well off road. Still they're both not on frames and that's their main weakness.
When does the new Nissan Armada come out? Is assume that it'd share the same platform as the QX56.
Actually Nathan, the driver side air vent on the Infiniti is functional.
I rented a QX56 in Phoenix for 2 weeks on vacation; drove over 2000 miles. I fell in love with it and knew I had to have one. Don't need the room, just loved the feel of being huge, a "just because" car. I was shocked how quick it was, too. But watching your reviews made me consider the FX50, because of its performance. The QX can be had for just a little more money-wise, with more room... but the same MPG! Both are great cars. If you had to pick one you enjoyed the most, what would it be?
Fast Lane Car, Does the QX have the cylinder deactivation? I have been told that some Trucks get over 20 combined MPG using a V8 with cylinder deativation! If these big powerful luxury SUV's don't have that they probably should. After all ain't Luxury kinda about having it all?

I liked your comparison, I think it was more just having compared with the porch Cayanne Infiniti FX 50, to make it more fair.
If you want an ACTUAL luxury off road vehicle nothing compares to a Range Rover or a Range Rover Sport depending on your budget

Mix up mash the 2013 Mercedes GL like this too! It overs a proper third row, raised ride hight, 360 camera, and new for 2013 lockers and low range gearing.

This is an off-road mashup. The Infiniti QX doesnt compete with the Cayenne. Its simply a comparison based off thier off roading capabilities. The Porsche Cayenne competes with the Infiniti Fx37 & Fx50 as well as the BMW X6 & Range Rover Evoque. The QX competes in the Full Size Sports Utilility segment, rivaling the Range Rover HSE, Mercedes GL & Lexus LX.

I live in an affluent city and although I love the Porsche Cayenne I have to admit that the Infiniti QX56 has been very popular around these roads. I have quickly seen the driveways of what were once dominated by Ranger Rovers, Mercedes Gl's and Lexus LX quickly replaced by the new Infiniti QX56. It over shadows all its competitors. Both are great cars but in retrospect the Porsche Cayenne competes with the FX37/50 not the QX. Styling is subjective but the QX is a great luxury SUV.

it's because of the Cayenne's new all-wheel drive system (especially torque vectoring), but no one would compare a Cayenne with the upcoming XV Crosstrek

I don't know why you felt you should tell me this... but the LX570 is not in the same catogory/class as the Jeep, and I don't care about drag races or burnouts for that matter but Jeep (SRT8), Cayenne Turbo, RR Sport (Supercharged HSE), ML63 are all high performance sports cars that would beat most 2 seater rwd sports cars; so i'd say yes please to a 1/4mile race.
And another thing: when you see a Cayenne, being a Porsche: expect it to do everything outstandingly, off-road included.
You get what you pay for? Since we all want cars that can go on any terrain eventually, the pricy Cayenne is more suited for that b/c its suspension can elevate for off road or depress to lower the center of gravity. And I say 'eventually', b/c there may not be any funding for building more roads or just repairing them causing plenty of potholes due to any fiscal crisis.
That's to whom how... Infiniti offer much more spacious interior, this is apple to orange comparison

Ten years later you can go to the dealership and spend 85,000 dollars for a jeep wrangler, so much for not worrying about the paint.
They should had went with the FX45 which more closer to the Cayenne, then the QX56.

for the cayenne, you've missed range rover as a potential competitor

I think that the Range Rover is the better choice compared to those two (that is if you have that much money to spend lol) or a Land Cruiser.

cayenne looks more sporty... but QX is way bigger and looks more luxurious and expensive compare to cayenne... i will choose a QX anyday... bcoz anybody can be a road bully by driving it :)
