2012 Infiniti QX56 put to the 0-60 MPH Towing Test

- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Infiniti QX56 is a big, powerful and luxurious SUV built to haul people and a lot of their stuff. In fact this vehicle with 400 HP and over 400 lb-ft of torque has a towing capacity that exceeds 8000 pounds. But what does that mean in the real world where the tires hit the road. We decided to find out by putting the Infiniti QX56 to the TFLcar towing test. We hooked up a 5500 pound boat to the back of the Infiniti QX56 to see how fast it would accelerate from 0-60 MPH @ 1 mile above sea level. And of course just to see compare the difference we also tried the same 0-60 MPH run with our the boat. How did the big Infiniti QX56 fare? Check out this video to find out.

I towed a 16ft dump trailer full of sand today with my wife's 2014 QX80. I'd estimate right around 10k lbs. Sagged like crazy, but handled and braked just fine. Got some crazy looks when i pulled into the sand pit, but some loud cheers as I drove away.
Thank you for doing this test, this answered a lot of questions I had about this vehicle.

Love the QX56 it's an incredibly capable vehicle.
You know the Infiniti went 0-60 (while towing the boat) only 2 seconds slower than a completely empty Honda cr-v so I think it is safe to say that it does just fine as a towing vehicle.
I love this SUV and yes, it sounds great....all infinitis sounds great..
The QX56 is just an awesome vehicle. And that is pretty quick considering its up in the mountains with a boat behind it!

I wish there were more real world tow tests, not just by TFLcar but by everyone. If you have to tow something large and heavy, even 5% of the time you're in a car, how it performs with something behind it will be a consideration. 8000lbs behind an suv or 20,000+ lbs behind a pickup on a steep slope or particularly twisting road and towing performance becomes virtually everything.
Do both in LowRange please with any car that has a 2 speed transfer case

Loving that wakeboard boat. Funny thing is that the boat probably has a larger displacement V8 than the QX.
And at high altitude. Normally it would probably reach 60 with a boat in around 10-11 seconds. Still, it was a lot of weight in the back (not to mention Nathan's presence).

@benigo15 I was going to say the same thing, haha. I drive the CRV and when i took it to Colorado, i was smacked in the face with how slow it is at high elevation. Never got below thirty (my kindle fire number keys dont work so i had to spell it out) mpg, though.

Well, the boat most likely has a 5.7 versus the 5.6 in the Infiniti. And I say "funny" because the idea of a smaller engine pulling something with a larger engine is an interesting thought.

I feel the same way when pulling my dad's boat. It has a GM 5.7 and my F-150 has a 4.6 which makes more power xD
