Just got a 2017 QX80. DO NOT listen to people saying its ugly etc. I almost did. In person, its a BEAST with road presence/appeal galore. You must see it in the flesh. It is ruggedly handsome and beautiful. Men and woman admire the car, with its 22 in wheels. Other SUVs I stop beside look puny in comparison, and the straight line acceleration is "body pushed back in seat" amazing. I test drove all the SUV in this class, and I got it just for this acceleration and its handsome road presence. It feels invincible in rain/high wind. Only advice is if your's is in white like mine, you have to keep it clean to look good. Because every piece of dirt and mud really gets magnified. I got it for the kids to be safe in, but now I find myself stealing time to drive it as much as I can because it's so enjoyable.
How is the reliability going? Thinking about getting a 2015 model
Aaron Hawkins These trucks are hella reliable. They’ve been sticking with the same engine ever since the first gen QX56 and just been upgrading it over the years to get better performance. And they’ve been known for really good reliability..
@@arrrahawk they are very reliable and a unique great looking full size SUV.
Wow! You almost make me want to buy one.
@@bobsmith9603 so we had a 2016 Infiniti qx80 and it was sliding all over the road in the winter it made a weird ticking sound and it felt unreliable so we traded it in for a 2021 Lexus rx350 and I regret trading in my qx80 I miss it and I could probably fix it up but it felt like it was going to die and we still wanted value for the car so we traded It in. The value dropped like 70k in 5 years and gas is too much but we also decided to down grade instead than getting a Lexus lx570 because one of my kids is 16 now and my other two are 12 so we did not need a big SUV anyways. We live in Edmonton Alberta Canada so we still need an SUV to get us through the snow
I think I'm the only one who loves the way this looks...
No, I love it
I do too!!!!
I love it
No man your NOT ALONE...!!! The front looks like a friggin freightliner semi truck. LOVE that design on the 2017 models and back. Since come 2018 they changed that look.
No your not. I think the front end looks like a freightliner semi truck. The way the hood and grille are shaped. Looks like a "hippo" MY ASS it does. And in bronze/brown exterior color with either a brown or beige interior with the wood trim inside. It's stunning.
The fact that it made it off Gold Mine Hill would give it a minimum of 9/10. What a lot of people don't know is that this vehicle is a Nissan Patrol in the rest of the world, which is a legendary off road vehicle, one of the 2 toughest and most capable and rugged off road workhorse vehicles. It was the first vehicle in the world to go across Australia by land through the bush and Outback. It's a body on box frame, tough as nails. AND a big point to how NOT old school this is, is that it has independent off road suspension on all 4 corners, like a Hummer H1 or the new military trucks! I have a 2011 QX and a 2009 Land Cruiser... I like my QX more!
Yes brother. I currently own one. Its beautiful with the new platinum patrol edition and its a beast inside ready to conquer any terrains.
I own 2014 qx80 .. wow what an suv.. i know why people call it ugly.. its because in the video or picture , it looks ugly.. but in real it looks amazing.. and drives better than any other suv .. and if any problem comes, its very easy to fix and not much expensive.. not like range rover or porsche.. where u have to scratch your head all the time , when something happens..
Just got my 2014 QX80 back in Oct 2021 and am loving it. Loving it as much as the 2008 Lexus GX470 I had. I agree, the real life presence of these rigs are awesome. I even like the original styling before the 2015 exterior update better. BTW, the 2014 is the only QX80 that has the original styling of the 2011 thru 2013 QX56. I posted two videos on UA-cam of it today.
The people who say this is ugly are just jumping on the bandwagon. Just because the styling is actually creative for an SUV, it doesn't make it "ugly."
I personally like the look, but it's one of those things that nobody is on the edge with. Everyone either loves it or hates it. Opinions aside, it's a capable vehicle!
Ain't no bandwagon it is ugly...
MrCarGuy20 looks are always subjective. i've never liked the look of them, but the interior is very nice. it's not a bad vehicle
MrCarGuy20 I absoloutely agree with you. I think Infiniti has done something so unique that people just cant help but give it attention.
The car isn't nice looking and are those side vent things.
Still one of the very best off roader which also belongs in the luxury spectrum of the SUV scale.
And this is why I freaking love TFLcar and TFLtruck... taking crossovers and real truck-framed vehicles off-road!
You can't get rid of one of the points from the look of it. Some people like me think that look of it is insane. It depends on the person.
I actually think it a good looking SUV! I think Nathan was a little harsh on it. Apparently it does work off road to.On a side note that's a scenic trail and this is a video I can share.
I have the older body style QX56 and love it. The mileage sucks but it's a huge car so I don't really worry about it too much. The thing is a beast in 4 wheel. I took it up a four wheel wet-clay road and was shocked at how well it did with Michelin Defender m\s tires. I could have kept going but the clay was piling up on the tires so much that they started rubbing on the fender liners. So I backed down a mile of the same greazy, deep clay and made it safely back to town. I was completely stunned at how well it did. I love my QX!
Roman, the vents on the fenders are air outlets, not inlets. They serve as "vents" for the engine compartment to enhance the cooling capabilities. You can see this truck has a big mouth to cool its big engine. Air gets into this big mouth but it does not find an easy exit because the underbody isn't enough. A side vent is nicer to the eyes compared to hood vents which would look sporty. No one wants sporty vents in a large SUV. This is how Infiniti managed to improve the aerodynamics of the FX50 by 5% with that little slot on each of its fenders. Nissan's approach in aerodynamics is good, that explains the thin radiators they have on their V6 and V8s.
Exactly! Those connect into the engine to cool it down
why did u deduct a point because of its size? huge cars has its own market, i'm not going to buy a big car then complain about how big it is. plus Infiniti added 360 angle cameras to make parking as easy as small cars.
@@Word-Life I AGREE
because they are amurican meatheads
I won’t buy an suv if it’s small it’s pointless
This car is really good, I think if I would rate it 9.5
I'd buy it. Proper underpinnings, tough, capable and reliable.
We did lol. Got it new in 2015, still have it today. It’s been a great SUV. Ours has been pretty reliable, very quick for its size, and practical
I just bought a 2015 used, got it around 20k, I am 6-3, and it's super comfortable and I love the look.
I watched the Escalade video and this one. Infiniti QX80 called a dinosaur, Escalade not, but actually is since its playform is still basically the same as the old one. The Escalade wasn't even put through the same challange, and the excuse was the tires and peeople don't take it off road. The QX80 is truly a Nissan Patrol, and was designed to be taken off road, as it is a tough and beyond capable true off road SUV. The Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser, and Land Rover are the truly large off road SUV's. I have watched lots of reviews on the QX80. Lots of bias already starts before the review is done. Yes it is ugly to some, beautiful to others. I love the Limited QX80. I don't like the fact the Escalade rarely gets ripped for its baby outside mirrors, but the QX80 does, when its mirrors are far larger. It was taken where you two wouldn't dare take the Escalade, and was the first SUV to make that hill, where the front air dam under the Escalade would have ripped off. I live in the NYC Metro area, where plows would pile snow next to ones parked vehicle, which turns to ice. Escalade would have to be dug out, to not rip that air damn, Infiniti would climb over and out. I know it as I own an Armada, which can do it, and the QX80 is more capable than it, based on what the QX80 is based on, and the Armada is based on. The Infiniti was taken off road by MOTOMAN, when it was caleed the QX56, but was redisigned and based on the Nissan Patrol (its makeover). He tested the suspension travel, up hill climb, breakover etc. None of the GM full size SUV's were put through that. Why? We know the answer. We know they can't do no where near what the QX56/QX80/Nissan Patrol can off road. Only Land Rover, and Toyota Land Cruiser/Lexus LX, can compete as full size doing those tasks. The answer when testing the full size GM SUV's. People go light off roading. Sorry guys, they compete with the QX80, especially the Escalade, so put the Escalade or the Yukon Denali through the same exact challenge, and see if they make the hill. I give the GM dinosaurs, and the QX80 a buy it. Both have their flaws, and their advantages....
Donelle Harrison Yeah, I've seen a few videos from these two guys and I find their reviews are usually a bit biased towards foreign vehicles. If it;s not an American made vehicle, they tend to pick on every little thing. Maybe, another car maker paid them to do the review. Example, escalade!!
I think GM pays them well, where as Nissan probably doesn't. Money talks
This car is beautiful
Such a sweet car! It is so underrated!
It's a truck not a car by ANY means.
Please!!! As reviewers and commentators... leave your opinions about looks to yourself. Looks are subjective. You may not like it, but a lot of other people do.
Toyota sold 273 Land Cruisers in the US in January 2016.
Infiniti sold 1,163 QX80s in the US in January 2016.
Its not a beautiful SUV in the sense that an Aston Martine Vanquish is beautiful. But its very handsome in person and has a lot of presence.
I think Nathan is ugly as fuck but I don't dislike the video for that reason.
(Joke Nathan... its a joke. I'm sure your mother thinks you're handsome)
Haha. You made me laugh a lot.
888TopGear888 it's ugly
You made your point loud and clear, lol.
'clicked on the belly' 'video pauses' Now what?
REASON THIS CAR IS BETTER THAN ESCALADE IN QATAR
QX can offroad the ESCALADE can't
Qx is more roomy
and to me looks don't matter
All that matters is the comfort
I actually LOVE the design of the front. Looks like a freightliner semi truck. This just might be my next vehicle. If i can find one in blue with wheat/beige interior and dvd screens.
i thought it was an ugly car when i first see it but in last have a year the more i see it, it actually looks batter and batter to me,is there anyone else same as me?
The look will eventually grow on you. Turns out to be a beautiful SUV...
Love old school tech... It's always natural engine power without any turbochargers or superchargers which other luxury brands are using lately.
Freddy K Yeah, and you also don't have to go through 300 menus on the touch screen to get to something. There is more capabilities that you can access via the buttons, which adds to the old school goodness.
Freddy K These are indeed much more reliable as well..
Excellent review. And yes, it's old tech. But it's a tried and trued platform. The old tech is part of the reason this truck is so reliable.
A dinosaur I love.
This is the best off road review you've made!! Something thing you should do is include more outside shots of the car off road.
People who think it's beautiful it's theirs. People who think it's ugly its theirs. In my opinion it's a beautiful SUV
I think its prettier than Land Rovers and Audi Q-whatevars. Has style, precense. Is a bit different. Different is good.
that looks better than the escalade
I say it is a Buy It! Not a Lease It. The look of it is something you can't judge
Thanks! I knew nothing about qx80 off road abilities
wow, one point deduct for small side mirror and one point for the side inlet? is this a visual review?
billyvn99 ..And a point deduct at 5:49 You can’t just take away points for that just because of the fact that he doesn’t like the way it looks. It’s literally personal opinion.
I mean, the mirrors are more aerodynamic than it's competitors so. lol
Bought one of these today in hermosa blue !
Love it
In my opinion, the most beautiful large suv out there today because of how unique it looks. Many suv's today are either too damn squared and ghetto or just plain long and fugly. So I purchased this over th Lexus LX 570
+Aaron Khath Looks like a PT cruiser that eat too many twinkies
I think it is awesome
Dmitriy K On the street maybe, in the outback of Australia hahah no.
Saroeuth Khath I bought one few weeks ago
I just bought this 2015 year model. Black exterior with 2 tone leather interior. It has the dark chrome wheels as well. I think it will be a nice ride....my kids will sure enjoy the space.
What's funny is the driver side fender vent is functional for the intake air box. Sadly there's nothing for the passenger side one to do anything for.
I have it (4wd) and simply love it more every time I drive it.
Gurpreet Brar how was it’s reliability? I’m looking for an old-school big ute, but not interested in finding myself stranded. Seems Nissan is taking a big hit on its cars lately, primarily for the CVT I think, but your feedback on your truck would be appreciated
@@sceb No worries about a cvt on a truck this big. They’re only using cvt’s in their smaller fuel efficient vehicles
@@bobsmith9603 thanks!!
yess! nathan is back!
Ever heard of Nissan Patrol? thats what this thing is. Those things are beasts. Most of Subaru's modern 4wd technology is borrowed from Nissan, when they used to be one company back in the 80s and 90s. In fact I still think they use the same rear ends. Nissan Patrol is like 5x better offroader than a Jeep Wrangler. IMO Patrol is the best OFFroader there is.
+Y10Q The older Patrols yes, this thing? no it's fucking horrible and a disgrace to the mighty Patrol name.
This thing looks like a PT cruiser that too many twinkies.
Lone Wanderer it is based on the Nissan patrol but it's far from an actual patrol
@@lonewanderer5413 the looks is nice, and it has more technology than the old Nissan patrols imo.
16 MPG COMBINED!!! dam thats good for also making 400hp for those that complain about gas mileage our expedition gets about 11 or 12 mpg making 250 hp
It's a 9 for me.
Where are these trails exactly in CO? I'd love to take my Sport Trac on them & see how it does, or even let you guys drive/ review it if you're close by!
love the car!
They pull like a freight train, has all the power you need, class, safety, and it looks great no matter what y'all say . I give it a 4.9 out of 5. If it had an optional diesel power plant 5.5 out of 5.
Speaking of old tech... Have you tried this in a current gen (or G2) Toyota Sequoia? I'd love to see how that would handle it (4 wheel independent susp w/atrac and all)
Did it had engaged the rear difflock in the las part?
I have the QX56 and plan to upgrade to the 80 or an SUV with more length (if it drives as well as the QX56. The QX56 is great, my only issues are the 3rd are seat (where my 98 Durango was more spacious), and the cargo space with the 3rd row seat up (where my 98 Durango had much more space). The Durango had enough space for my family of 4 to store all of our luggage for road trips, whereas My QX56 requires me to use a cargo carrier on my hitch.
However the QX56 is the best vehicle I have owned.
When you went up that last part and the car was jumping it was funny because you were also jumping
Thank You
A post office truck. I like that; That's hilarious! 😂😂😂
What a camera . beautiful
I want one of these so bad. I had one as a rental and it sucks so bad on gas mileage but it stylish and teched out.
also youve left out that this is the limited model and that seat stitching only looks like that on that version. however i agree that it needs more adjustment options on the seats
How does the engine keeps up with that tune compare to the Titan
Does the 2017 qx80 handle off road driving the same as the 2015 model?
better than escalade
+fabian ramirez escalate cannot offroad
when did every video become 4k??
I like how it looks
Same!
this qx is based on the new nissan patrol hardcore competitor for Toyota Land cruiser put 17 with good off road tires and follow the track
Stepmother has one and I love the ride and handling and that engine although slow by today's standard its still plenty capable, Problems I have with it is that the transmission has already given us problems it vibrates the whole car when going to drive from park and tailgate motor has already failed. But love it.
It’s not the transmission problem,it’s a drive shaft issue like mounting,or transmission mount.
These are beautiful.
7:13 a decent moment of off-roading
My dad had a 2011 qx56 in the same colour
I’m also 6’2” and have no problem with my QX80 seating position.
1:03 Ohh I love that music, any ideas who the artist is?
Surprised you didn’t talk about the Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) which is a unique thing with Nissan/Infinity.
Sorry for the Zombie reply. I think HBMC was only available on the trim level up from the one tested. The tested model does not have the wood trimmed steering wheel. I think HBMC was only on those models in the US.
The side vents are functional. There used for heat extraction vents. So while your driving the heat escapes through the vents, so there's no build up.
+djdangerusda 1 Not so much. my '14 QX80's engine breathes intake air thru the driver's side fender grille. The right side is just for show 'tho.
+Whitey2146 but the vents still work though
Whitey2146 Dmitriy K there very much functional. because you can drive down the street and put your hand out thw window and feel the heat. Or when its cold outside you can see the heat leaving the engine bay. I have a 2011 QX56 it's a 1 of 1 and first one sold. Right now its at 600hp and the vents do their jobs.
@@Whitey2146 The driver's side is functional actually
@@steviebster1 Yessiree. My '14 uses the L-H side for eng. air intake.
Fast lane truck u guys should test the mw3 call of. Duty wrangler and the Nissan murano crosscabriolet
old school or new school- school's always look same- ok buddy-its my dream car&my dreams came true$$😜
What is "old school" about this beautiful piece of MODERN technology? Ive never seen hydraulic technology in any older 4WD
+alianisz no solid axle its 4 wheel independent, no turbos, no cylinder deactivation, doesn't use lightweight materials
Sosa Doesnt use light weight materials? Its constructed from a monocoque chassis(modern technology) and cylinder deactivation is not new, manufacturers like Porsche dont use that either. Get your facts right.
I also watched the video and keep asking myself what the heck are these two guys talking about "old school?" compared to what? an Airbus A380? Then I agree.
for such a complex big machine that is supposed to go off road, this has the perfect blend of modern and "proven" technology. Machines like this shouldn't be too complex and too modern.
I have a question does this suv have anything to deal with the nissan patrol
I guess the only reason why the old school argument works is because it does sticker for $88k, but it and the tahoe are the only real suvs left and I'd have trouble choosing between the two I guess the GM products get the MPG and these got a little better off road so it really comes down to styling.
I had the 2012 qx56 not much of a difference from the newer Infiniti models the Jx35 and then qx60 same thing. If anyone suggests buying one of these get the older ones save a ton of money. Love Infiniti they definitely nail it when it comes to luxury people definitely notice you as they are very appealing.
Nice
the vents actually do have a function according to Infiniti..i forget what but i read that back in 2011
Q80 match up w/ Land Cruiser??
or Lexus version?
The Fast Lane Truck you guys should do the LX 570 off road.
at least the hood vents are functional
If they wanted to be old school they should of make it flip easier like every SUV from the 90's
+The Fast Lane Truck
i need a your suggestion i am going to buy 2016 tahoe (LTZ) ... I am confused ntw TAHOE (LTZ) OR GMC YUKON (SLT)
please help me with your suggestion.....
So what vehicle didn't mk it up goldmine hill??
At then end of the day, honestly, the QX will drag around anything else in its class it's being compared to. Real shit.
Dustin Cochran so is that good or bad ?
The Fast Lane Car Guys didnt you take the Honda Pilot on that same trail and didnt it make it all the way to the top also?
Does it come with Diesel?
A good video would be comparing the brand new jeep renegade and the jeep wrangler, or possibly doing an off-road comparison with the renegade and raptor.
I just bought this vehicle 2 days ago, it’s going to be a nice ride.
Congrats, you will enjoy it. Great looking car.
some guy had a nissan patrol on the streets of nyc (harlem) i was stunned cause it looked like a new armada
Great
Do the gmc yukon slt up the hill
+The Fast Lane Truck why are ya'll getting 16.9? That's what my 2003 yukon xl averages in the city. It's 4wd and has everything except a dvd player. Just wondering if you had taken up the mountian. I can get 20 on a trip to the beach and back.
my uncle and dad have one
i own this and the 2015 model at that and honestly i think the mirrors are too big as they are already lol
Can you guys take the Toyota Highlander off-road, I wanna see what mine can do.
I have one. Beautiful car.
I love the 2012 my wifes car that I use every chance I get !! It seems very fast.
I love this monstrosity!
This truck is definitely a buy it vehicle. Nathan's point deductions were silly.
You should see how well the thing does in ice and snow. It is a hoss. Goes just as well as clean roads. Sure footed as a mountain goat.
Would you be able to find a real Patrol and test it there?
Why it's old school??
Exactly. I was expecting like a solid rear axle. Nope. 4 wheel independent
yes and I have one but Nissan version it's called PATROL
mohammad khalifa No Turbo(s), No Cylinder deactivation, No use of light materials to save weight...or in other words...old school.
mohammad khalifa Despite being 4 wheel independent it is still a body on frame truck. That's why it is old school and not a space frame like range rover.
mohammad khalifa انا بعد عندي :)
Everyone thinks these are ugly, I love them, they look really cool and unique.
That's right! I like the Qx80
