Along with Ted DiBiase, an uncrowned world champion in many people’s eyes. He could have a match with anyone, work face or heel( better as a heel) and most importantly he was believable.
Virgil made ted
Always shocking to me how few people but him in dream matches
@Mathew Donoven if it counted when he bought the 24/7 title it has to count for when he bought it off Andre

R.I.P. Paul Orndorff. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Always cracked me up when Mr. Wonderful did his entrance for 2015 At Hogan's Bday segment, he had Nattie, Eva Marie and another girl kiss his cheek lol. R.I.P Homey.
That entrance popped myself and my father so hard. We weren’t expecting Mr. Wonderful to make an appearance but it was a welcome sight for a celebration of Hogan. One of the most underrated legends of that era.
lol had forgotten about that
Too bad he didn't have a big pop as much as Piper whenever he came out after Orndorff.
Was never the biggest Orndorff fan, but I'm sorry to hear this. Whenever I saw him in an interview he just seemed like a normal guy who saved his money and was living a normal life in retirement. Wrestling needs more of that.
He cut some great promos.
Look up the video of him doing personal training to an overweight girl. It's hilarious.
@@joeschmo5021 I just watched it last night. From ‘84
@@NOV123 Dude, cool. Gotta remember Paul Orndorf.
Thank you
Paul Orndorff was a truth teller. Paul Orndorff told the truth about Tim Horner and the state of Tennessee back in 1993. Thank you Paul Orndorff for telling the truth.
What did he say?
@@KevinBrown-vw4nm You've never seen SMW episode 51 broadcast on 1/16/1993? Take this opportunity and watch this and see Paul Orndorff tell the truth.
@@michaelconnors7668 I will check it out. Thanks
I got to meet Mr wonderful once nice guy guy and had no problem posing for a picture
I did see Paul on ESPN television during a bowling telecast and he seemed like a nice fella.
One of my favorite wrestlers in the 80's. Best piledriver ever! Should've won Gold in the WWF.
RIP Mr. Wonderful
Had a body of a Greek god and delivered one of the best piledrivers that is was renamed the Orndorff piledriver
I will alwaysnlove the body of work...his reactions to the "Paula" chants were priceless, always...
I would rather call lady wrestler Alex Gracia "Pinky" to her face than call Mister Wonderful "Paula" to his face.
Yeah those wrestlers of our day were special
I remember that too. He constantly heard "Paula, Paula,..." I was watching WCW Saturday Night and someone had a sign that said "Pauline." 😆
Mean Gene....its hard being Mr Wonderful. i was on a plane and was waiting. the pilot walked to my seat and said Mr Orndorff is it ok to take off? and then when i leave the airport, the limos are fighting over who is gonna give me a ride.
RIP ‘Mr Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff, Gone but Never Forgotten … 🙏🏿
I think you'd be surprised how few wrestling fans under 40 have ever seen an Orndorff match
Love the video where Ordorff makes Mean Gene laugh by referring to Ivan Putski as 'Turtle Head' 🤣🤣🤣
His heelturn on Hogan was iconic, all it took was one piledriver to do an injury angle with guys running out to check on Hogan, but nowadays u gota throw a guy off a ladder threw a flaming table covered in glass shards and sometimes that won't even be the finish
This turn floored me. And you’re 100% correct. It was legit and I seriously thought Hogan was done for. I was a kid but still. Great stuff from a better era of wrestling.
@@gatorsmld7480 yes it was awesome, nothing nowadays can compare to it, when he pile drove him an bobby heenan and everyone came out I was heartbroken as a child, then their title match they had the crowd was insane and u could hear an see the electricity in the air, they could never duplicate that now, now they teleport ppl and do all kinds of nonsense
@@nickl8984 agree 100%. Since kayfabe is no longer, the crowds are less into it than they should be. Sometimes we ARE better off not knowing.
@@gatorsmld7480 it was totally better not knowing, I swear as a kid I was so emotionally involved, looked forward religously to WWF Primetime in Monday night which then became raw, I had my wrestling buddies an actions figures and I'd make an event of it, modern day kids and modernday fans who've only known wrestling to be fake really don't understand or get what they really missed out on, the guys we saw on tv we thought they were that person 24/7, they'll never really get how special it was especially to me as a kid, it was my life
@@nickl8984 well said sir. 👍
SInce Paul Orndorff did the Hulkmania workout set commercial. It will always be The Mr.Wonderful workout set to me.
Paul did have the best piledriver ever
Him or Taker.
Even better than Lawler?
Theres a few old schoolers tht had their own brutal piledrivers.. Jerry Lawler,Terry Funk, Orndorf etc
Agreed. Ask rudy diamond
That is true!!
That heel turn on Hogan was absolutely masterful. The buildup was incredible. You had a popular babyface taking a backseat to the even more popular babyface and he became bitter and more insecure. He became desperate to get out of Hogan’s shadow that he turns to Hulk’s most dedicated enemy. It was the biggest drawing WWF house show feud of the 80’s. Paul was such an amazing talent and he truly deserved a shot as a world champ.
I saw that when I was a kid. I remember flipping out when it happened.
Adorable Adrian Adonis and the Flower Shop. lol
Sort of like Rocky V when Tommy Gunn turned heel on his former coach Rocky Balboa.
I was 16 working and spent the morning in tv dept trying to catch the match on superstars. It waa set up great and we knew it was coming. Paul flipping out because Hogan wouldn't come to the phone. "He said what??!!!" Great time as a fan
That was the first heel turn I saw I was 8 and just hated him so much for it lol wasn't till I got older and understood the psychology more that I truly appreciated it R.I.P Mr Wonderful
owned a bowling alley in Douglasville, GA. Used to bowl up there as a teen in the late 80s and early 90s. Ran into him a few times. Always had time for a few minutes of conversations, autographs, and such. Great wrestler and a greater person. R.I.P. Mr 1nderful
Real sad about his passing yet happy that at least his suffering is no more. Guys like Bobby the brain and Paul are guys that genuinely felt bad for. Their health just deteriorated over the last few years of their lives.
At least they're both is at peace now. Seeing Bobby the Brain, one of the greatest talkers of all time, after having that surgery where they removed his some of his jaw and tongue was just sad. Its like disease stole his greatest weapon.
What happened to the Brain I do not wish on anyone.
What was even sad was the fact that his now widow Ronda just left him at a nursing home & his son had to get him & bring him home. I think what she did was a spin to what happened to Paul Sr. when Paul was younger when he had said that his mother had left his dad for another man. Paul's wife to do what she did was just cowardly let alone irresponsible
This One really hurt 😢 the passing of Mr.Paul Orndorff because he loved his FANS and Life of Wrestling Period!!! R.I.P. my friend.
You aren't hurt .
@Jay Harv28 Yes. If you aren't friends, family , spouse, children, neighbors, co worker , boss , drinking buddies, school mates, military that served together, church goers, poker buddy , golf friends, a former babysitter, teacher , student, sports teammate, business partner, lover , casual acquaintances, gym partner, Bible study group , one night stand , pot smokers , hackeysack buddies , partners in crime , Tupperware party organizers, best friends, family pet , flat earth conspiracy theorists, book of the month club , distant relative, former band members , choir , church choir , Bingo buddies , newspaper delivery person, wrestling tag team partner, an actual wrestler , sibling , accountant or former Dungeons and Dragons playmate......well sorry you just aren't involved..
@Jay Harv28 No I'm honest. I'm just better at it than most people. Pretending to be hurt or crying is fake , insincere and just trying to get attention. Yes I was a big 80s wrestling fan. In a living room watching TV. That's it. I'm just honest about it.
Family and friends you can always call!
@Jay Harv28 Just good 👍???? No pal I'm an expert 😉 . And I'm not a troll I'm a villain. But seriously I gave a pretty long list of ways to know someone and I don't think you ever drank a beer or played Dungeons and Dragons with Paul Orndorff. I know because I DID. Paul was a 12th level dwarf fighter , he called his character WONDERDWARF which was funny as heck in 1983 and he was cool but wouldn't let us drink beer because we weren't 21. That's why I hate fakes.
"wait a minute dutch he's gonna put him in a piledriver that's outlawed!!!" smoky mountain wrestling april 11 1992 was the episode that orndorff had the piledriver rampage, really good stuff.
Best Piledriver, Best Lockup, Best Punches, Best Kicks, Best Bumper
That Main Event at the 1st WRESTLEMANIA is starting to feel like ancient history these days! Is my 80's childhood really fading before my eyes? God speed, Mr. Wonderful....
I'd forgotten how great Paul's jumping piledriver looked until I watched the WWE tribute video. RIP Mr. Wonderful.
Best in the business
Without a doubt and it was named the Orndorff piledriver
The late Paul Orndorff was so good as a heel that when he yelled at a wrestler he scared the living daylights out of me. I will miss him dearly.

My favorite memories of him are from before he was Mr. #1derful. From when he was a face in Georgia and he was the national champion.
I was thinking the same thing. He was one of those guys on Georgia TV that made Georgia look so much better than most regions when they got the cable deal.
@@CarlosMedina-vj7ot I grew up in st Louis but wouldn't miss Georgia championship wrestling every week. Something about it seemed much better
r.i.p Mr. Wonderful
Forever Wonderful. I swear to God when we were kids, during the height of Hulkamania me and my friends were rooting for Paul Orndorff against Hulk. He was such an intense badass dude with a great body. He was the ultimate man's man and everybody wanted to be him. Maybe because in comparison Hulk was so over the top and whiny. And I don't know, his stricking style looked so convincing, looked he would really damage the other guy. He had everything to do be a huge star. So I'm not shocked he was Hulk's best drawing opponant.
Another badass decided to rest. R.I.P.
Not to be morbid but I'm not sure he had much of a choice in the matter.
Orndorff was a beast in Florida. Rest In Paradise.
He was a beast everywhere he went. It's just that Florida is and was full of fake tough guys and Paul didn't mind calling out bullshitters when he saw them
@@FnRenner Um, if you want to talk about the territory with the toughest wrestlers, Maybe Minnesota could keep up but Tampa had Spivey, Dick Slater, Orndorff, The Briscos broke arms when they street fought. Kevin Sullivan is from Boston but was a Tampa Badass. Roided up supposed tough guy Chris Beniot ran to human resources when Mike Graham had words with him.
Orndorff is one of those people in wrestling that people might not have paid a lot of attention to but he was actually a pretty big name when things were just getting hot in the WWF. RIP.
I remember that piledriver angle on SMW. It was great.
I loved the smw Orndoff piledriver bit
Another Great one gone that Most of the Young fans will never care about

@Jay Harv28 the guy he faced is dead
Mr Orndorff was a MAN'S MAN ! TRUE SOLDIER.
Sadly Terry Funk and Bobby Eaton are suffering dementia too. Thank you for sacrificing your health for us
I saw MWPO wrestle countless times when I was a kid in Tampa at the Sundome and Armory. Being in Tampa you see wrestlers all the time out in public. Great times
Attended the same high school as two of his kids, would occasionally see him around town. Always called him Mr. Orndorff and was always incredibly nice to anyone he talked to.
Maybe the best looking physique when the WWF took off, when that mattered to Vince, why did he never become *the* guy?
Still would have been nice to have had him take the belt from hogan and have some great chase. Funny how wwf liked face champs
@Aaron Lassiter Didn't need to be a huge Hogan like draw. Just needed to be a great heel.
@Aaron Lassiter I think Orndorff would’ve been a better “Hulk Hogan” than Hogan himself, looks wise. I never heard him cut a promo or if he was a good, skilled worker though. I always heard he drew with Hulk, but I still think they kept him too pretty as a heel. He could’ve been a scary beast, not just a guy in a sequined vest that looked like a good guy
@Aaron Lassiter I assumed Hulk was a better talker, I didn’t realize the height difference. Paul’s muscles made him look bigger that that !
The way Hogan drew money in the 80s, you don't fuck with that. (and I'm a huge Mr. Wonderful fan)
Loved when he tagged with Jimmy Snuka.
I met him in Dothan Alabama in the early eighties when he wrestled for Continental Championship Wrestling and got his autograph. He then went to the WWF. RIP.
Condolences to his family... great wrestler...
My first memories of orndorff were in 1993, he was working in wcw and had a great run with the tv title when he beat a very green and over pushed Eric watts in tournament. His programs with ron Simmons was great, especially when he was called 'Paula' by the crowd! His heel reactions were hilarious! And his comeback reply to call Simmons 'Rhonda Simmons was genuinely funny!! I had no idea back then what a huge player he was in the 1980s in wwf. What a brilliant performer.
Paul Orndorff was such an wonderful wrestler doing his era as athlete especially his finisher the piledriver.
RIP Mr. Wonderful
R.I.P. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. A true all-time great and certified legend. One of my dream matches was "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff vs. Magnum T.A.
Orndorff was a bit before my time, when I heard of his passing, I went back and watched some of his work. Truly a great worker and a great personality. What a heel! Sad to see him go, RIP Paul.
13:30 Sting versus Orndorff DID happen - as a world title match on a UK tour in early '93 when Sting took the belt off Vader for a week
Brian: he became friends with hogan and, turned on hogan, within a year.
Corny: ha! with most people, it didn't take that long... but, that's only in private.
Paul Orndorff was an outstanding wrestler. I remember the first time I saw him in 1982 on Georgia Championship wrestling. He had some great matches with Buzz Sawyer and Larry Zbysko. He was the NWA National Heavyweight champion. Bless him 🙏
I remember all that too as well as his feuds with Ivan Koloff, Masked Superstar and Super Destroyer. Great matches and memories.
@@dannyfelts2045 Paul was definitely a better heel. He just had that intimidating look as in don't mess with me!!!
He was Hogans best rival in WWF in my opinion..... RIP Mr Wonderful 🙏🙏
I would say him and Dr D David Schultz.
Without a doubt. Orndorff was the only challenger during Hogan's first title run that was made to look like he could possibly beat Hogan. They teased a title change on a couple of occasions and everything.
R.I.P. Mr. Wonderful, def lived up to that name
RIP Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff !!

All the legends are dying, and so is wrestling 😥
Wrestling is dying since the promoters at WWE and AEW do not care to listen to us fans.
For me wrestling died when WCW & ECW folded. WWE is just awful
Impact is really embarrassing
. NWA has kept me interested, AEW is a big bona-fide let down. MLW is cool love it... The best product out there in my opinion is NWA though
@@adriancarlos9155 NWA is definitely the best thing going right now.

That SMW match with Orndorf vs Hector Gurrero and all the piledrivers is absolutely awesome. Everyone needs to go see it.
R.I.P Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff.... damn everybody i used to watch on t.v dying off
have always wondered...
If Orndorff never goes to the WWF, could he have eventually been a NWA champ and have had a good run with that belt?
Paul was one of a lot of great wrestlers that grew up in the Tampa area in the 60s-70s....Steve Keirn, Buzz Sawyer, Mike Graham, Terry Bollea (Hulk), Bob Orton Jr and a few others
His run with Paul Roma as Pretty Wonderful was very good as well, Roma wasn't as bad as people say & he complimented Orndorff with a bit more speed & agility. One of my favorite guys to chat with when WCW came to Gainesville Ga. Always wanted to see him face Luger as well, that would've been interesting. Could've held every Title in the F & WCW....
Loved watching Orndorff square off against Ted DiBiase and JYD in Mid-South. He was one of the best.
Passing of a true legend !! I remember watching him when he turned on Hogan
I never was that aware about Hulkster and Wonderful's big money house show matches. Just that he was a midcarder that had numerous face and heel turns; co-headlining the first Survivor Series, and putting over Rick Rude.
Paul and Piper probably put one of the best matches of all time in 1985 two of the best performers of all time. Rest In Peace Paul and Roddy
Arguably the best damned piledriver in the business! RIP
No argument here
And that is how you program a wrestling show. Starts with great talent

I always enjoyed watching Orndorff. He had that air about him that made him look like an "old badass" even during his first WWE run already and despite of his vanity gimmick. He looked legit tough, not to mess with (and according to well known stories, he was), but especially as a face, he was also able to elicit sympathy and come across as likeable. And a great worker. His run with "Pretty Wonderful" even managed to make me root for Paul Roma, of all guys.
His shoots made him seem like a pretty chill, down to earth guy and at peace with himself - something that's not too common with "big name" territory wrestlers. RIP Mr. Wonderful
Blessed to have met him a few times out in Fresno,Ca. at the Selland Arena in the '80's.Man was so incredibly solid and intense he got me into weightlifting on a serious level,a true talent that i thought was more than capable of carrying the title with no issue from me of being a heel.R.I.P. Mr.Wonderful and say hi to Piper for me.
I had one of his posters on the wall for motivation next to my weights. Pretty good inspiration for sure. I also had his LJN action figure on the shelf there also.. I was pretty young but I know it pushed me to lift harder when I would look at them.
The wrestlers today can only wish to draw the number of fans and the passion they brought when Hogan and Mr. Wonderful would face off in the ring.
