I love AEW and enjoy it a lot. But I'll be stupid if I didn't see the flaws in their booking which there are numerous (biggest one being Cody Rhodes's booking). I agree with a lot of things Cornette says but not everything. His genuine critiques are on point. I just ignore when he reviews stuff based on his biases. e.g Omega, Sasha vs Bianca at Mania, Ethan Page etc.
I also don't agree with everything he says, but that's normal, you can't always be on the same page. Also everybody is biased to a certain degree. The good thing about Cornette is that he's always entertaining and rhetorically brilliant whether I agree to the content or not. And in most cases I agree, whether it's wrestling, politics or food.
I liked Ethan Page a lot Until I saw his twitter. -Ethan Page played by Julian Is his handle on Twitter. Like Cmon does any1 think Undertaker would’ve been as successful if he was Undertaker played by Mark? Of course not, it just helps dismantle any believability

This video is a main reason why Jim Cornette is one of the greatest wrestling managers of all time. Someone who takes pride in what they do for a living.
You know it’s fake right? If it was real a 125 pound amateur would take anyone in the rock and roll express and put them in a pretzel in maybe 10 seconds. These are not the catch as catch can wrestlers. They are fake 80s wrestlers. They are not a Thesz or a Gotch or a Hodge or a Robinson. The 80’s pro wrestlers are as real as todays pro wrestlers.
Jim has said this many times before. A wrestling match needs to tell a story. A match should have peaks and valleys, moments of lulls and highs. If everything is full stop from bell to bell, there is no build-up. If there is nothing but high spots, where does end? Jump off the top rope? Jump off their partner? Jump off the cage? The high spots are getting more and more dangerous just to get that highlight moment. Goodwilly needs to go back to porn, or whatever he was doing that wasn't wrestling.
Corny LOVED walter vs dragunov. And he was not the only one. Everybody in the industry was fawning over it BECAUSE THIS IS HOW THE EVOLUTION OF WRESTLING SHOULD BE.

True for me. I grew up loving wrestling but i don't enjoy it at all anymore. I want to because there is potential but it's always squandered. Why watch something I don't like anymore?
@@SamsarasArt Sadly nowadays it has come to be handpicking material by company. Imho what is a must-match usually is: MLW= Jacob Fatu, Hammerstone, Von Erichs, Middleweight division. NWA = Aldis, Murdoch. ROH = The Foundation, Pure Wrestling, Lethal, RUSH and Dragon Lee. Impact (yeah lol) = X Division, Joe Doering. Wwe = MVP, McIntyre, Reigns w/ Heyman, Zayn and Owens, Cesaro, Rollins, WALTER, NXT's top/upper midcard. Aew = PAC.
Jim is right on high spots, Mysterio is one of the greatest high flyers, most of his matches were fought on the map, using grapples and holds as well as kicks, his high spot was the 619 which he would use usually once a match, so Jim is right.
I was thinking. Growing up, the smallest guy I seen in a wrestling ring was Koko B Ware. And he was 3 times the size of Stunt. Puts things into perspective
Kurt angle was the perfect kind of comedy wrestler in a sense. His character wasn't always a goofball but when it was hid character was genuinely funny, yet even though was technically still green at the time, he knew too always be dead serious in a match
He had a little bit of the Bobby Heenan personality. He could be humorous but insulting at the same time. It was also the combination of the fact that he was a legit badass playing a chickenshit heel. Everything just balanced out.
The big thing is that Kurt Angle acted like he was taking it seriously. Even when he acted goofy, it didn't feel like he was in on the joke. It was funny because he was being humiliated to the crowd who wanted to see the smug prick get what was coming to him. Kurt acting like he believed his shtick is a big part of why it worked. If he just winked and nodded at the camera then it would have sucked.
The fact that Jim Cornette calls AEW an Outlaw Mudshow works for Me and calling Kenny Olivier (Omega) Twinkle Toes McFingerBang is the cherry on top thus he is always right … 💯
To be honest, I don't mind him being a wrestler. He's just a product of his time. But he should be a jobber. He should be a guy winning the 24/7 belt in wwe. He can get wins here and there in an actual match, but he shouldn't be going over 10 minutes with Kenny omega.
The backstage role of non-former wrestlers is a hilarious point as the article points out the WWE; but makes no mention that the booker for AEW is someone that has no business booking and fills the same criteria, llolololol
On the "public experiences" thing, Al Snow does a good beginner class where he talks about why the closed fist punch is banned in wrestling and so is often used sparingly or for fire-up spots: because most of that crowd don't know what taking a slam, a suplex or a figure four leg lock feels like... but a lot of them know what being punched in the face feels like, so seeing dozens of worked punches that don't leave a mark and don't have any effect would just ruin suspension of disbelief.

He has substance to his points, but it's not like there is answer there. Promotions need to stay on tv, and audiences like jacked roid addicts, but they're not going to hold audience using the pace of the 1980's matches, because 1980's crowds thought pro wrestling is real...They even have pejorative name for customers...marks...That's not healthy business philosophy to deceive...and it's not needed because enough audience respects athleticism, if you don't alienate them...but there's civil war in the industry because it's art, NOT science...In story telling
I'd love to see a decent journalist try to do a serious critique about what Jim gets wrong. This numpty is clearly a fan of the indie 'anyone can do anything and every match needs everything' style, but I think you could actually have a decent discussion about say: -Is Jim too dismissive of women's wrestling? -Is his ideas about gimmicks stuck in the past? -Does he get ANYTHING wrong about psychology? While I don't think you can present wrestlers in the way they used to, what is fundamental to wrestling (the idea that it needs to look violent while hiding that it is not as bad as it looks) is so obvious, but you still get all these stupid gimmick matches, and obviously orchestrated spots that destroy suspension of disbelief
are there any wrestling journalists out there that aren't marks for Meltzer? too many people take his opinion as gospel (*cough* Conrad), so i think a proper critique would need to come from someone who has actually wrestled and is from Jim's era / someone who he respects. the whole "jim is a cuck / shock jock" dismissal from modern wrestlers/fans is a weak cop-out to avoid critical analysis of modern pro wrestling.
How they both destroy this article is literally why I left the AEW official fan site because every response and opinion where in the vain of this article; most responses and so called opinions I got from the most fanatic of fans there are as baseless, non sensical, no proof or elaboration to any statement they make (I literally think they don't know the difference between an opinion and a statement) and really makes you question if they fully grasp what they are saying or have actually watch wrestling.

It's important to realize that marks live in their own little universe that is completely detached from the rest of society. They will like pretty much anything that even vaguely resembles wrestling because so much of their identity and lifestyle is built around wrestling. For people like that whose favorite hobby is wrestling, who go to shows and buy merch and are part of the iwc, not having wrestling to watch is unacceptable. Because of that they have essentially no standards and perceive wrestling in a way different from everyone else. It's like a really hardcore fan of a band that will love whatever they put out no matter how shitty it is and no matter how much everyone else hates it. These marks don't understand how utterly ridiculous modern wrestling looks to everyone else. There has always been some amount of silliness in wrestling but now it's just cringe-worthy and embarrassing to the point that a lot of people would be ashamed to admit they are wrestling fans to strangers. Flippy bullshit wrestling just looks stupid and so fake that you can't suspend disbelief. It's like the really super corny martial arts fights in some Hong Kong movies vs good Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films. You know that Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan aren't really fighting the guys in the movie but it looks believable enough to still be entertaining. The other thing these marks need to understand is that the stuff they consider funny in wrestling is generally speaking, extremely unfunny to everyone that isn't a part of their universe. Most people don't actually laugh at stupid shit like pockets and lego matches. It's lame and unfunny. Try showing it to someone who isn't a Mark and see if they laugh. I'm not against comedy in wrestling, but what's happening in AEW and WWE isn't even comedy, it is just goofy trash for children and hardcore marks.
The things that destroyed modern wrestling is wrestlers not sticking to kayfabe and addressing them as performance artist, spilling out all BTS secrets and having scripted promos. Shit man attitude era was so awesome and now i can't even watch straight for 5 mins.

The ONLY thing that Jim Cornette seems to be consistantly unfair about I would say is that he completely dismisses Japanese women wrestlers as little cheerleaders but there are so many great female Japanese wrestlers. Everything else he pretty much hits the nail on the head.
I understand where he's coming from though, they really don't try too hard to differentiate themselves. Similar clothes, same move set. The only standout was the female Freddie Mercury and that was just ridiculous. It would be the same for any country/sex, it's a business where you need to stand out. If nxt got 10 British guys Pete dunns height, doing the same moves, dressing similarly you'd ask what is going on. People tuning in for the first time would think it was a special interest show from the UK not an American wrestling promotion.
@@garyslackjaw I don't think so at all, not in the slightest. Everything he said is true. He's actually quite good at arguing his points on this one. It's like his comments on the high spots, it's the impact each move has, not whether or not you can string so many together in a row. When AEW does stuff like that it undermines their product. It looks more like a scripted cheerleading routine than a wrestling match. If those moves were spread out and had an impact, if they were actually sold, I bet Jim wouldn't mind. All of his arguments are grounded in one basic argument. Believability. Everyone sitting at home knows that the outcomes are predetermined. Even when I was a little kid I knew. My dad tried to hide it but I told him it was "fake" (kid me). We all know but the point is we want to suspend our disbelief. How can I do that during a Bucks match where they're doing a cheerleading routine? Or a match where Marco Stunt wins against an actual wrestler? I normally don't comment on these videos but imo Jim killed it here. I don't always agree with Jim but he nailed it. Pretty damn good for an on the fly take too imo.

I love AEW and enjoy it a lot. But I'll be stupid if I didn't see the flaws in their booking which there are numerous (biggest one being Cody Rhodes's booking). I agree with a lot of things Cornette says but not everything. His genuine critiques are on point. Probably by whining and crying. They can't handle any criticism. Not counting the fellow who commented before me, his opinion makes sense.
I also don't agree with everything he says, but that's normal, you can't always be on the same page. Also everybody is biased to a certain degree. The fact that people damn near consider any non finisher submission a “rest” hold, rather than an ACTUAL WRESTLING MANEUVER!!!! Is ridiculous. Holds and struggles have much more place in a ring than a fucking back flip….

Rest holds are useful not just for... resting, but as a way to get in close and communicate something a little more elaborate to your opponent.

jim cornette is not out of touch, hes just a true real old school wrestling fan.
debatable
@The Destroyer BHB no he is out of touch in some aspects
Jim is totally right about high spots, small wrestlers, and rest holds.
This numpty is clearly a fan of the indie 'anyone can do anything and every match needs everything' style, but I think you could actually have a decent discussion about say:
-Is Jim too dismissive of women's wrestling?

I understand where he's coming from though, they really don't try too hard to differentiate themselves. Similar clothes, same move set. The only standout was the female Freddie Mercury and that was just ridiculous.
It would be the same for any country/sex, it's a business where you need to stand out.
I had heard of a couple of occasions where the wrestlers would spend some time in a "rest hold" because they were watching a fan fight that broke out 😀
I really want to hear the rest of Brian's promo lol
he went right at cornette's defect
“Alright you 4 eyed fuck” LMFAOOOOO 😂😂
