    Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping. 🍀 Would like to welcome you out to the shed of many names on this cold night to finish making the turkey tail double decocted tincture. It is an amazing tincture that is well-rounded and brings together both the water soluble as well as the alcohol soluble medicinal benefits in to one tincture.
    Below is the link on how I made the turkey tail tincture.
    • Making Turkey Tail Tin...
    Turkey Tail Mushrooms are packed with antioxidants that work at enhancing the T helper cells in the body to boost the immune system and is widely used in Asian medicine to help treat cancer patients. They help to support digestion and gut health as well. Their active agents have been used for centuries to protect and make your liver healthier and to work better. They also have potent anti-microbial and anti-viral properties. Turkey tail mushrooms have phenols and flavonoids, among the most potent forms of antioxidants. One study revealed there are over 35 different phenolic compounds alone in turkey tail mushrooms. A study that took 61 people that had HPV showed that most of the participants that were treated with turkey tail mushrooms (88% of them to be exact) had positive results that included the clearing of HPV. There have been many more numerous studies on this amazing mushroom. One very important one is a study showing that it may also cure insulin resistance, but this study has only been unfortunately tested on poor rats.
    This is only a drop in the bucket of the many amazing healing benefits of these mushrooms. It is truly overwhelming just how much more medicinal benefits these little powerhouses hold. Please seek out more information it will amaze you, and make you wonder why they are not given to more people to heal them. However we know exactly why they aren't, but this comes as no surprise.
    Traditional dosage amount is 1/2 a dropper 1-2 times per day.
    Hope this video encourages you to also do more research into turkey tail mushrooms. If you have any questions please feel free to leave them in the comments section below I will answer them as soon as possible. Take care and have a blessed day.
    Blessings,
    Teresa

    Decanted my first tincture in November which was Mullein and put it up. It turned out beautiful and is a lovely rich color in the bottle. I have a really bad cold with congestion and used this tincture. It works very well in clearing the wheezing and congestion. Now I feel confident in making them knowing they work better than what we typically buy. I took the gazillion seeds and spread them along the back of our property at the road hoping for my own plants so I can make infused Mullein flower oil. Thanks for another fabulous demonstration. Blessings!!

      Your welcome and happy that you enjoyed the video. Oh that sounds wonderful and it is amazing how mullein works for so many ailments. Mullein does make a beautiful tincture, and still marvel at the beauty that each tincture contains. Do so hope that the seeds you casted out take root and grows for you. Also happy to hear that you used the word gazillion cause I know that one all to well. Thank you so much for being part of my UA-cam family and know that you are appreciated more than you know. Take care and have a blessed day. ❤️🍀

      August of this year was my first time foraging herbs and Mullein was the main one( also my first time learning about its existence and cheerfully searching for them). Foraged large leaves to burn & teas and a few flowers were dried and used it for teas. Today, I got 100 proof vodka and once I infuse the foragedTurkey tail, this will be my first tincture ❣️ I’m sure you get the first experience feeling. I haven’t thought to make mullein tincture but because you commented my inner child will be trying this. And the weather is getting cooler so I’m getting as much herbs in soon!

      I have well water but I still boil it to use for things like this. Boil and sterilize everything else too. Loving that I'm learning something new from you every single day. Plastic chemicals leaching out after 14 days, I have a question now that I'm preparing for this winter storm coming our way. If my electricity goes out, my well stops working too. I fill bathtub up for flushing toilet. 22 quart stainless steel pot plus one half it's size for making coffee and cooking. And milk jugs for washing. If I refill milk jugs with water, is it safe to say that it can keep for 14 days?

    • @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping

      Awe thank you and I am honored to have you as my family. Oh don't worry I'm not done sharing what I know and there will be plenty of videos to come. More than happy to share what I have learned over the years to help others be self-sufficient as well. I am blessed and still want to bless others back. It's the Old Way of doing things and love it.
      Yes the water in the milk jugs will be safe for 14 days. It is a slow leaching process so you're not going to get a massive amount of plastic chemicals all at once but after 14 days it does start leaching. Make sure you have plenty of water for cooking and coffee because this storm might last a lot longer than we think it's going to. You both stay safe out there and when you can let me know how y'all are doing. Take care, stay safe and warm. Have a blessed day. ❤️🍀

    Oh my gosh I'm so glad you did this video. I thought it was supposed to be a half tea half tincture mix😱 So I will start taking what I have twice a day so it will get used up and start another batch and do it your way! This makes a whole lot more sense than the way I learned to do it, adding water as you go if the tea evaporates below a certain level. See you can teach an old dog new tricks lol. I'm so glad you mentioned bottled water. Heating and freezing stuff in plastic really accelerates the leeching process too. I cringe when I see people heat stuff up in plastic in the microwave or put bottled drinks in the freezer. Thank you Teresa!

      Your welcome and glad that you enjoyed the video. Yes when making double decocted tincture you have to be very careful so that you don't lower the alcohol level too low cause it won't be shelf stable. Personally don't make a lot of these types of tinctures due to the fact that you have to be very careful when making them. Yes I have to watch myself when using anything plastic wise cause old habits die hard. Yes know what you mean cause this old dog learns many new things daily. Take care and have a blessed day. ❤️🍀

      Your welcome and glad that you enjoyed the video. Yes agree it is amazing amount of medicinal benefits, but there are even more being found out. Usually try to encourage others to do more research as well. Yes the water bottle information caught us off guard many years ago. We tested it out to make sure and that batch of colloidal silver failed. So we knew the information was factual after that. After finding out about the chemicals leaching in to the water we have kept a close eye on it. Take care and have a blessed day. ❤️🍀

      Your welcome and glad that you enjoyed the video. Yes after finding out about the water I cringe when seeing people loading up on cases of bottled water.
      Sadly here our city has the best Artisan well water, but what comes out of the tap has had so many chemicals added to it. One of the main reasons when they gave out the stimulus money I invested in a Berkey. Take care and have a blessed day. ❤️🍀

    Hello Teresa, I watched both of your videos in regards to making this tincture and the information has been really helpful, thank you very much. I also noticed that you use a Berkey water filter, they are good water filters, however, Berkey uses activated alumina in their add-on fluoride filter which is only effective on naturally occurring fluoride, it is useless against fluorisilic acid. The filters that you and everyone else need are the 'AquaHouse AH-GRAV-7 Ceramic Gravity Water Filter Cartridges (2 Pack)', these excellent filters remove the fluorisilic acid from our water supply. Their filters will fit the Berkey system too because most stainless steel housings for all water filters are made in the same factory in India.

      Good evening Crystal and welcome to my channel. Happy that you enjoyed the video. Okay mine was made from young fresh turkey tails and made sure that where they were attached to the log was completely removed. Personally don't know if them being dried would affect the color due to not using dried ones before. It didn't show well on camera but was a light tan color. Only thing might be is you used much older turkey tails but I don't know. If they still had any of the tree bark attached to them the darkness might be from the tannins. Hope this helps you out. Take care and have a blessed day ahead.❤️🍀🦉

    Now the turkey tail tea, before you add it back to the tincture- has all the alcohol been cooked out of it? I ask because some people say yes heat cooks 100% of the alcohol out, and some say no it does not..

      Yes the minute it comes up to the simmer stage all alcohol does evaporate out. Oh believe me it simmered for 4 hours there is no chance at all for any of it to have survived. 😉 Take care and have a blessed evening. ❤️🍀

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I am new to making my own tinctures. Questions for you... some videos I have watched measure out the mushrooms and double the alcohol to the weight of the mushroom (example: 100 grams mushroom = 200ml of alchohol) to make the 1st part of the extract ... do you weigh out the mushrooms to know how much alcohol you will need? ... second question is ... I am wanting to take my tincture after the double decoction and add it to a broth to sip on every day instead of tincture form because it is just easier for me to take that way in a different form rather than drops ... however I am wondering about making the broth would it be best to add the tincture after it cooks so as not to lose medicinal properties? Or can I simmer the broth with the tincture in it? (Same question for when making a hot tea to sip on and drink) ... just wanting to take my tincture in different forms which I know I will take more often as opposed to the dropper but I don't want to lose the medicinal properties of that tincture if I cook it into a different form (soup/ broth/ tea) ... thanks for your advice/ help!

      Good evening Kristina and welcome to my channel. Happy that you enjoyed the video. To be honest no I don't measure them out in grams and just add them to my jar to make a strong beginning tincture. Yes you can add the double decocted tincture to broth and take it in that way. However with this being said you are not going to want your broth to be too hot. If it's too hot you do take a risk of particles of the tincture evaporating out with the alcohol. Wished there was a easier answer for you. Unfortunately in the turkey tails there are medicinals only alcohol pull out and others only water pull out. Hope this helps to answer your questions and if you have more please ask away. Take care and have a blessed day ahead.❤️🍀🦉

    QUESTION:
    Teresa???
    When I mixed my tincture together, it came out cloudy and clumpy looking!
    I'm sure I did everything the right way. I haven't tried any yet.
    Is it still ok?

    Do you wash/clean your Turkey tails before you start the process? And do you use fresh or do you have to dry them first?

    Did you cook the mushrooms first? Or just put them in without cooking them (raw)?

      @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping  Рік тому

      Good evening Patty and happy that you enjoyed the video. No ma'am no need to cook the turkey tail mushrooms when you make the first part of the tincture. There is a 2nd part to this video in my tinctures playlist.

    Do you think alcohol could destroy water soluble ingredients ?

    • @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping
      @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping  Рік тому +1

      Good evening M B and happy that you enjoyed the video. The reasoning behind using 100 proof vodka is that it is a balanced alcohol. It's 50% alcohol and 50% water so I would definitely say no the alcohol will not destroy any of the water soluble ingredients. Take care and have a blessed day ahead.❤️🍀🦉
