Combining the two extracts doesn't really give you a set alcohol by volume like 30% ABV for preservation does it. Most tinctures have less then half anyhow because most people use a really high percentage alcohol anyhow right?

Hello - Great video - very instructive. Why do you seem to insist on mushrooms that have been grown outdoor? Could you not use mushroom grown indoor? Thanks and keep up the amazing work.
Thank you so much for your video! It is so helpful! One question - what is the benefit of having the mushrooms soak in the alcohol for longer than two weeks? How do I decide how long to soak them? Thank you!
It definitely won't harm them, and would ensure you've got out all of the bioactive compounds - if you have the time then yes, we would recommend that!
thank you so much for this video! may i ask, does the final tincture bottle have extra water? or is it only the water from the double extraction? can i put some extra water in this mix?
thank you for such clear to the point instructions. I am from Bhutan and we have so many of these mushrooms growing wild. just one question, are all the mushrooms that you mix in equal portions?
I've read about or watched a ton of tincture tutorials and most will say that if you end up with a 20-40% alcohol content that will be sufficient for years of preservation. Refrigeration of course can never hurt and would likely extend that, I tend to err on the high side and refrigerate just to insure preserving the goodies I've extracted. You'd need a PROOF & TRALLE HYDROMETER & measuring flask to determine the finished alcohol content. Very inexpensive and easy to find online or in home brewing shops.
I have a fridge dedicated to my home made brews, jams and pickles. All of the above benefit from perfect preservation that way, as opposed to just room temperature. That being said, a dark and cool storage space will keep it quite well, too. Just not a warm room! And bottles of tincture must be dark glass, brown is best!
@@blenderbenderguy you wont get an accurate reading after making the The triterpenes will affect the gravity read. Maybe I will experiment to see the difference it makes. Thank you for this great demo! Loved it! Simple, to the point and nicely presented. I have one question: I read somewhere that doing a triple extraction is the optimal way to go: according to this article, some compounds need to be extracted on cold water, some hot water and of course, some on alcohol. Did you ever do this procedure? Thanks for commenting back to all of us!
ATTENTION: It's recommended to combine the extracts in the OPPOSITE order shown in yall's video, in order to preserve the polysaccharides. From Herbal Academy: "Allow the decoction to cool completely, then slowly pour the tincture into the decoction while whisking steadily. (It’s important to do it in that order, rather than pouring decoction into the tincture, since you want to minimize the exposure of polysaccharides to undiluted alcohol.)"
@90 Second Mycology exactly. Also what I find weird is that the literature states that a tincture should have 25% alcohol. The alcohol part contains 40% max. The other part 0% since both part are equal it only adds up to 20%. I do like the clarity of the rest of the video.
My dual extraction was the consistency of gel the next day after combining the water and alcohol solutions? I did really reduce the water and birch poly pores. Is it okay? I soaked the birch poly pores in 100 proof vodka for two months before straining the mushroom for the water soluble reduction. I also blended some freshly dried poly pores and added them to the mushrooms I had soaked in the alcohol for the 2 months. I strained through cheese cloth after reducing water solution on the stove and then combined with the alcohol the mushrooms soaked in.
Can powdered dried mushrooms work? That's what's really available for me would like to do a dual extraction process. I do appreciate your video. It seems to be the only one out there that's doing this
Hi there! I loved your video and would like to ask you some questions if I may.. I don't drink alcohol but would like to have the mushroom's beneficial properties exactred by the alcohol processing... So, my question is: Can I put the alcohol processed tinture to a low simmer so the alcohol would evaporate? And if so, would this "alcohol free" tinture be good for a couple of years or would it spoil quickly as a simple decoction would? Thank you! Ana
I can’t answer your question, but normally an alcohol tincture, you will only use a few drops to maybe 5ml, so it is quite insignificant. Leaving it in alcohol will keep it shelf stable, and avoid mold.
i have many tinctures made from plants and i take teaspoons at a time and the vodka is nasty! i either add very warm water to the amount i want to take in a small glass bowl and the vodka evaporates out in an hour or i just skip the water and let the dose sit in an open bowl overnight so the tincture lasts in the original bottle for almost ever.
Medicinal mushrooms are rarely gourmet except Shiitake or Maitake and some others. So the main thing is getting the most benefit from the ingredience by extracting.
