I love Vaer, I have this in white, their dirty dozen and 2 others. They make solid watches.

Hi John, Nice review of the Vaer D7. At the end of the video you are putting it up against the Steinhart Ocean 39, a watch that i have owned. Now, you are stating that the specs are similar when it comes to movement, case size, use of materials etc. and you are right. There is a big difference however, and you can notice it if you observe the two watches side by side, from the side. The case of the Steinhart is, imho, not very comfortable. the lug line of the Ocean 39 is very straight, it does not curve wristwards as a well balanced design should, and the back of the case "bubbles" downwards, making it stick like a wet marshmellow on your wrist.
I found the Steinhart uncomfortable and send it back. Steinhart watches have a great presence if viewed from above. The aligment of the bezel in the one I got just wasn"t right, to mention a thing. The Vaer has a completely different case, curvy like the Omega and the lugs clearly point downwards at the end. For me, the Vaer is actually the only 39 mm diver with great specs, i'm going to order one. thanks.

I own 4 Vaers and 1 Steinhart. I plan on getting their cyclops 1655 homage, as it is the one that works with their odd looking cases. Despite this, certain models fly off the shelf.

It's a nice combination of influences. It's a well executed piece. I like it. I have some additional nit picks... I wish that they had used clear anti-reflective coating instead of blue on the dial. A ghost position is pretty dicey by the time you reach this price-point. I would have liked to see female endinks even though I wouldn't expect them to cause problems for me, that extra bit off conformity would have served those with small wrists.
Some other competitors are the Baltic diver (French with a Swiss movement) and Direnzo when his pieces are in stock.... Yema... There are others. The ghost date position just doesn't feel right at this price-point.

Very nice execution of the crystal following through with the arc of the bezel. Smooth!
    Merry Christmas John!

They should make a bracelet with self adjustment, all watches should have that these days.

Great review of a nice watch. I like this company, the two founders seem like very nice and sincere people. I am thinking of ordering a watch from them, probably a S3 field watch. I am into 36mm field watches now. Merry Christmas, John.

Do you have a platform where one can ask you questions about watches?

I purchased a Heimdallr SKX007 on Aug 30 and a Tactical Frog Sub 300T on Oct 21. The crowns on both of these do not thread back into the case correctly. The threading does not "pick up" well and is rough to wind back into the case. They said that they would send me another crown for it. I have never changed out a crown..I also do not know the process to send in for repair, such as who pays for shipping. I purchased them from Watch Dive. Any advice on this would be most helpful.

Sorry to hear that Mark. See video below. The same process applies to the NH35A. You will just need a case back tool, and toothpick. The crown will come with a winding stem, so its easy to fit. With regards to returns, you would have to pay for the shipping. I think the best option is for Watchdives to send you the new crowns, and you fit them yourself. In the meantime you can try applying some silicon grease to the thread on the crown tube using a cotton bud. Then work the grease into the thread by screwing the crown down, and unscrewing it again. This should improve the thread action. Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I kinda figured getting the crowns sent to me would be best. Thanks so much. You are the Guru of watches in my book.

@@Thor7 Watch the video below as you remove the winding stem and crown as it is specific to the NH35A. The video shows where you need to press the toothpick to release the lock on the winding stem. Before removing it, I recommend you line up the hour and minute hands to 12, then pull out the crown to hack the movement. The position of the second hand doesn't matter. Then when you refit the new winding stem and crown it should just click in when you push it in, then screw down the crown as normal. Regards, #WR4K

The Vaer is a beautiful watch, and I'm glad there is a return to focusing on reasonably sized watches that most of us can actually wear. I'm not sure if the Steinhart Ocean 39 at 430 euro (SKU: 103-0981) is comparable; it has a metal caseback, and a flat sapphire crystal, not domed like the Vaer. Especially the domed crystal makes the Vaer more "aesthetically pleasing".

Maybe the ocean 39 gmt premium 500 is a good competitor
