That truck will outlast that blazer by about another 100 yrs. MY neighbor/ school buddy's dad drove a Datsun truck identically to yours for about 40yrs, I'am 50 now, my buddy now drives it believe it or not. Awesome little truck.
@@7.3ididiesel36 That's a sweet little truck you've got there. It's nice to have the option to crank start if your electric starter fails for reasons other than a dead battery (wiring/relay/fuse/solenoid issues etc.) Now what's safer, crank starting or bump starting? 🤔
That engine runs really well. I have a red 1965 Datsun 320 pickup as well. My papa put an L20B in it with a four speed transmission and 3.70 gears from a 510 wagon. It originally was a four speed on the column.
Cool. I got the exact same truck! s/n L320000291. Floor shift & unique '64 grill. Owned it for 25+ years actually, although its been sitting since 2000. Hopefully one day it will roll again. This truck is totally it's twin with a similar primer spot & big goofy mirrors that Datsun dealers all installed in the day. Many also had a huge monster rear bumper dealer installed, although I ditched mine for the original little bumperettes.
Got ‘er going after 23 years sitting. Electronic ignition old school Crane Cams/Allison but need to dial it in a bit yet. ua-cam.com/video/zAFbZQGMZpU/v-deo.html
Just got an idea💡 I want to fab up a "lawnmower-style" pull starter for my 93 Festiva, with bearings and probably a gear reduction between the centrifugal engagement and the crank pulley. That ought to make it easy enough on the ol' trick shoulder that likes to pop out of socket sometimes. It's totally feasible. Maybe have it come right through the firewall 😆 Incidental perks include increased battery longevity by reducing high current discharges from the starter. Coincidentally, I recently installed a recoil pull starter from a push mower on my lawn tractor and I'm thrilled with it. For me, it's unnessesary to invest in a decent battery tender, and also pay to keep it plugged in for half the year, on a mower I got for free which stays outside in the elements, just to be able to start the damned thing once a week or so during the other half of the year when I need it. Already have a solar maintainer but that's currently being used for the Festiva because the alternator is giving up and only outputs at low revs above idle 🙄 Anyway... pull starter!
Imangine trying to get mechanical and body parts fir the little truck here. It would be virtually impossible. I, like and am more in love with the 521 series Datsun/Nissan trucks from years 1969 till 1972. The 620's are nice to, however love the 521 series trucks the very best.
The crank which was absorbedly seen, being dear to have obtained about 50 years previous ( the time of 1 of universities ) it a motorcar ( the Middle Ages ) is extremely convenient and 4/1, too, is the one which always took if turning.
I had one of these engines I ended up connecting it to an old Military generator that produced 2000 W it’s been running now on and off for about 15 years
I know which truck I would prefer and it wouldn't be the Blazer. I drove one of these one ourfarm 40 years ago. it was really dependable rugged and with a tray instead of a ute body it could hold quite a few dairy calves.
Cool , for me better than doing Nothing , sometimes doing nothing is better though . after all driving that pickup is hell risky - unless it’s in very low speed .
The starter motor was invented in 1911. This car must be very old. Either this car was produced at a low price in 1965/before the starter motor was invented.
It has electric starter motor, but you can also start it with the hard crank if the starter motor should fail or battery would be to weak. I just wanted to try starting it with the hard crank.

nice! didn't know they had hand cranks in the 60's. great shtf vehicle
Thanks.
In Russia we've got cranks till early 2000's :D
They even have them in some 1990 vehicles
@@Pa3MeC I've got a 1983 lada 21011 and it's got a hand crank :)
@@fishywishyfishfisk nice car)
Lived in Japan in 1969. Had a datsun bluebird that had a crank start for emergency. Did it a few times in the winter. Wish I still had it.
Can't believe people used to do this to start a car back in the day and now we just push a button
It also has an electric starter, this is so if the battery dies so you can still start it, I just wanted to try it.
The old British cars used to have a push-button start in the 60's, especially the Rover's and Mini's.
Some of these also had the push button start, this one just has a key.

I like the sound of those little engines👍
I've always wanted to own a 1960's Datsun pickup! Lucky you!

4:35 I started cracking up when all that rust fell off the bumper
This is a legendary truck
It still hand starts
My dad had a 1967 Datsun. I don't remember him having a handcrank for his, but then again I was a kid then. I will have to ask him. Very cool though.
Hand crank on a *1965* Datsun pick up?! Amazing!
Interesting little truck. Pretty cool
4:35 the rust says hi!
Unique ! Thanks for sharing 👍
That's so freaking cool!
Thank you.

I had a 68 Renault that you could crank. The jack handle was also the crank.
Interesante máquina DATSUN.

Yes, not many 1960's cars had hand cranks, some Russian cars had them up until the 90's like the Gaz Volgs and Ladas.
This video should have 3.5 mil views easy 😮

Interesting, how did you connect it to the generator?
Should still have crank handles for modern cars too.east/west engines crank handle out the side.....somehow!
Good efgort

Gee just like starting up an old Ford model T .
It's 2021 and I still have not owned a push start car haha
Great video, do you still have it? Just picked up a sports side. Looking for more info and parts.
Thank you. I sold it October 2019. Have fun with yours.
Didn’t know the 320’s had that option to start. Thanks for sharing. Do you still have it and if so any thing new?

I don't have it anymore.
7.3 IDI Diesel hopefully in a good spot. Thanks for sharing something so rare nowadays.

Great little truck , do you still have it? 😎 Is is positive ground or is that how the battery wires worked out? 👍🏿
Thank you. I do not have it any more, it is positive ground.
I think my wrist would snap if I tried this
It should be fine if the ignition timing is set correctly. If it is too advanced it could back fire and snap your wrist.
I had a1966 . It did not have this option
look after it.
Datsun is a popular company am I correct?
Get the rust fixed NOW and get the paint done too....then sort out the interior.
thats going back some ways can you put a starter and key on that pick up.
It has i starter and key, just wanted to try the hand crank this time.
Cool , for me better than doing Nothing , sometimes doing nothing is better though . after all driving that pickup is hell risky - unless it’s in very low speed .
Yes it is very dangerous to drive, the crumple zone is your face. Also very unreliable.

Dont gotta worry about the starter dying, eh?
Yes good point.
Well, not until "it" does die...
Complete opposite I'd say haha
22 jul 2019 5:8 pm edt: 4:50 manual-start, looks more difficult than manual-starting gasoline-lawn-mower.
Good old mechanical engine. The only way it should be.
Its very simple to fix, but I like working on modern computerized fuel injected engines more.
Yeah because fuck fuel efficiency and modern engine fluids, right? Moron.
