Sandra is one of the very emotional artists! Her intonations in her voice are always different, unlike Madonna or Samantha Fox, who flaunted their sexuality. Sandra did not have to do this. Her sexuality comes from within.
and yes ... she is very sensual!

Omg …it was un match 1990… this video is one of her best video ..also her look ..she looks so beautiful … and the the long ply remix of this song is amazing ! With this album she taken a new direction for her career …more clever …with more interesting music …since this album Sandra taken risks and came to the another vibe …this is the beginning of her most better part ! And the title which close the album is just a revolutionary …( the journey )… it was a first step to the futur Enigma project …you can guess the genese of Enigma in the journey

Take a listen (and a look) to more of her please!! I strongly reccomend the Hits/ singles: Around My Heart, Don't Be Agressive, Stop For A Minute (also the music for a german crime-thriller...), (Life May Be) A Big Insanity, Loreen... And there are a lot more!!

After her debut & European success starting in 1985, her music company wanted to break into English speaking markets in 1986. Her debut single barely made the UK Top 100, however Sandra managed to become very popular and successful in both South Africa and neighbouring Namibia. Apart from numerous radio hits, Sandra had a total of 5 Top 10 hits on the official South African singles charts based on sales. Her music videos was on hot rotation on local TV & her posters was hanging on many admiring teenagers walls (including mine!!!). A truelly sentious & charming performer with harmonious melodies & a voice that lifts the spirit.
Please consider reacting to the video singles: Hi! Hi! Hi! (1986), Johnny Wanna Live (1992), One More Night (1990) & Don't be Aggressive (1992).

YESS!! Exciting that you react to her 90s stuff as well, which is more serious. You should really check her single ''Johnny Wanna Live'' from the same album. Self penned single about animal rights and abuse. Sandra at the time refused to let people wearing fur into her concerts.
As usual her songs are super catchy, well produced and shine with her unique voice.
Hiroschima is special because she actually belts it out rough at the time. The extended album version has more belting.
    Sandra is amazing!
Hiroschima was a huge hit in Germany, peaking at #4 for several weeks and making the year end Top 30 of 1990.
The album also peaked at #3 which is the highest peak of any Sandra album in Germany.

On my fan page page dedicated to her (We.LoVe.YoU.SANDRA) , fans express a lot times their appreciation for your videos! I hope you will dive more in her music: her best songs are not only her biggest hits, she never stopped experimenting the human emotion and the deeper structure of the Sound of Pop. i believe you will agree her sound influenced so many artists of electronica and dance music in the last 3 decades. It is worth to pay attention to her albums fully, each one is a standalone concept , the journey keeps on until today. And you have also to listen Cretu's solo works and his productions for Hubert Kah-band and Andru Donalds. The best is yet to come:-)

Honestly, when it comes to cover, Sandra is litterally unbeatable. Every song is has covered is a real gem, even after her divorce with michael cretu in 2006 (which forced her to change her artistic direction). "All Your Zombies" (from "The Art of Love", 2006) is a perfect exemple, "Nights In White Satin" (from "Fading Shades", 1995) too and all the 2002's cover album "The Wheel Of Time".
She's a misunderstood artist. Despite the fact that she's less popular than in the 80s, she's still rock it with power. Her voice didn't change.
If I can recommand you, Dereck, some tracks for Sandra, here is a little list :
    - the whole album "Stay in Touch" (yep, such a so underrated album)
    - the "Reflections" album (the work behind the music is sick !!!! )
    - "R U Feeling Me"/"What If"/Who I Am"/Once In A Lifetime (from 2009 "Back To Life")
    - "The Way I Am"/"Casino Royale" (this one is fire, I swear)/"All Your Zombies"/"Dear God... If You Exist" (ABSOLUTE GEM ! Approval garanteed)/"Shadow Of Power" (from "The Art of Love")
And if you are curious about the young Sandra before 84, you can take a look at the 70s disco girl's band Arabesque. Here are some suggestions for Arabesque :
"In For A Penny, In For A Pound", "Midnight Dancer", "Marigot Bay", "Take Me, Don't Break Me", "City Cats", "Friday Night" and "Ecstasy" (which Sandra performed live alone many... many years later)

So glad you crossed into the '90s with Sandra. This is where she really caught my attention with this song Hiroshima which was taken from her 1990 album Paintings In Yellow. It was the same year her hubby released their first Enigma album too and her vocals can be heard on their first release Sadness which shot to Number One in the UK charts in that year. It was right around the same time as Enigma. She made it in the French charts with this one for several weeks in a row. M. Cretu engineered both projects. Sadly, music transitioned to House, rap, American hip hop, European techno. 1991-1992 is really her last glorious years into the music industry. I think Michael and her separated I might be wrong. "Johnny wanna live" is probably her last hit because it was a new decade, music genres diversified, a new audience. I didn't know this was a cover thanks. React more to her down below. 👇

The 1992 album is probably her best ever, peaked at #7 in Germany. She had a German #8 album in 2002 but i kind of agree that 1992/3 was her last year as a major superstar and Germany's #1 Poplady. Then she took a break and never quite reached the heights of commercial success again that she achieved from 1985-1993.

I started skateboarding at the time and used to hang out with my friends at a local abandoned drive-in. First time I've heard of "Maria madgalena, hi hi hi, jolene" was that year, it sounded very moderm for the time. She started as Arabesque in the 1970's, then became so as her real name Sandra in the 80's, and in the 90's of course she was the voice of Enigma.. Long career, very inspirational for many new artists at the time.. Bigger than Madonna who were only marketed in the US and Europe. Sandra was marketed in the USSR, Asia, Middle East, Africa, South America so the reach of popularity was bigger, even tho wasn't marketed in the US. Obviously with an anti-American songs like this it wouldn't work in the US...

I have a lot of respect for Michael Cretu and I like Sandra and even though it was a hit for her, I think this cover version didn't need to be. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this version, I just think her voice doesn't really fit such a serious topic. The production also doesn't really reflect what the song is about, in my opinion. Cretu should have made a piano/synth driven ballad instead of arranging the song with a beat and scratching sounds. It's not like you hear this and say "Yeah, atomic bombing of Hiroshima, groovy" 😁.

I was a teenager at the time when the song came out. We already knew what the theme of the song was about. It was a nice tribute to Hiroshima although Japan was part of "the axis of evil" in 1945 but the regime at the time didn't pay for it but innocent population did. It was still is a touchy subject to talk about. Sandra was an household name, the lyrics weren't about politic but more of a tribute to the tragic event. If the internet and social medias (twitter etc..) were around at the time I'm sure some online social justice movement would have issued a controversy out of it and ban the song lol. 🙂 Glad it came out in the right era. Once again the young generation knew what the song was about.

Hi Dereck! Once again you made my day! This is my favorite song of Sandra in the early 90's released in February 1990, ranked No. 16 in the TOP 50 (France) from her fourth album "Paintings In Yellow" as the first single.
As you said, it's true, all of Sandra's songs are great, never disappoint, it's quite difficult to choose even if you have such or such a preference for one or more songs, whether it's the 80's for me even the 90's like this.
I had bought his compilation "18 Greatest Hits" (1992) on CD 2 years later (which I still listen to), I almost love them all, no matter the decade and also the DVD of the 2003 videoclips.
As you mentioned, you feel Enigma influences in the song, it's normal, it's the same year 90, a few months before this band arrives (around September-October) so there are some sounds similar.
On the other hand, I did not know and I had not paid attention that it was a cover of a British group, Whisful Thiniking, written by David Morgan and produced by Lou Reizner dating from 1971, taken from their eponymous album and re-released. in 1978.
As much as I knew Everlasting Love (1987) was a cover but this one no, I hadn't paid attention to it. I remember that song when it came out, I kept singing it over and over (chorus) when I was in college, it's one of Sandra's best in the early of 90's. Of course there are others for this album, (Life May Be) A Big Insanity.
For your next react, for 80's, I recommend you: Hi! Hi! Hi! (1986), Loreen (1986), Midnight Man (1987) my fav, We'Ll Be Together (89' Remix), Around My heart (1989) and for 90's: (Life May Be) A Big Insanity (1990) very dancy, Johnny Wanna Live (1992), Don'T Be Aggressive (1992).
Thanks for your great work our American dude. 👍🇫🇷
PS: FYI, I always watch your videos until the end! Those that interest me of course! And twice: in English and in French!🙂😉 Sometimes I re-watch videos that I liked but on my TV.

Quote: "...from her fourth album "The Long Play"..." >> 1.) "The Long Play" was the name of her FIRST album from November 1985. 2.) Hiroshima was from the album "Paintings In Yellow" ;-)))
