This song has been a huge hit in France. In 1986,i was about 12, learning English with a great teacher who made us work on the lyrics making us listen to it again and again. This has been used for all the big sports events in the stadiums, on TV and on the radio. We have heard this song for years. Finally, this is the only song of this band that has been so successful (in France, i don't know about the other countries). And you're right, it's really an energetic song. You can't listen to it without moving. I guess it must be fun to sing this in a karaoke, when you're a little bit drunk, but I've never tried. 😂🤣
For some reason I only discovered this band in the late 90s, but I was obsessed! This is definitely their most impressive song, epic indeed, but they have many other very nice songs. If you liked this one, you should listen to some more, they're definitely NOT a one hit wonder. My younger brother and I would play "Seven doors hotel" on repeat. Kind of a spooky vibe, very energetic.
Love this song and the guitar solo... Jesus, we had so much fun on the parties in the 90's where it was often played to animate the people to come to the dancefloor, dance and jump around 😊 Our dj team always started with "Jump" from Van Halen... that reminds me the good old times... that song is an amazing one too 👍🏻
I was five when this song came out and didn't speak English, each time They played It on the radio my mon called me and I went running to the kitchen to sing along. My first English words were "It's the final countdown" or "is de fainal caundaun" (spanglish pronunciation)

Much like it would be a master tape 😄 35 years later, I realize that the groove in the song makes it stand out. It has a swaying rhythm that hair metal usually don't have.

Wow, wow, wow. I didn't even know about this ending. In the studio version it just fades out on the chorus. And I literally can't believe you never heard this song before although you were only 1 year old when it came out. Well, I was 6 so it was massive and of course I heard it when it came out. They say that they are one hit wonder but I beg to differ because what about "Carrie"? And "Cherokee" although it wasn't as massive as "Final Countdown" and "Carrie" it still was a hit as well.
back in the 80's or 90's this song was always used for the walk on, even the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan used it for the walk on announcing all the NBA players.
Even for someone who doesn't appreciate hair heavy metal music as much still think there are a few great ones out there, this is one, and Van Halen's Jump os the other one...
Epic song. Great live band, ive seen them many times over years. They are still playing together after a long split from 1992-2004. They have relesed many new albums since then.Joeys voice is not as high pitch anymore but he still delivers Great vocals . Well all of the band members are pusching 60yo. And lets not forget the lead guitarr player kee marcello .he took over after John norum left the band in 1987. When they reunited in 2004 the plan was to have 2 guitarr players but they change there mind and John norum was back on lead guitarr. again. Kee marcello is an amazing guitarr player and he did the solo play in the song superstitous and lots of others.
I love Dereck - his reactions and all his Videos, but I have a couple of queries; it’s difficult to believe that he has never heard so many of these songs that have been massive hits and is hearing them for the first time? Also; is there any reaction to Songs that he found he didn’t like? I’ve only ever seen him react to Songs he’s always ended up loving - and I’ve watched SO many of his Videos. Just curious. 🙂
I have been reacting to this twice in my life...once in the eighties and the next time at the milleniumshift!! So There you have it!! I'm almost to full of it cause like been there done it!! Saw Europe at a festival couple of years ago and they were nothing like they used to bee...and thats a little bit sad....and I'm a swede so Ihave
This band and this song were amazing because even people, like me, who really didn't liked hard rock (besides a few killer tracks from Scorpions or Bon Jovi), liked this song because there are guitars, yes, but there is also amazing synth sounds, a killer voice (Joey Tempest's), cute guys and it was one hell of a smash hit all around the world. There will many, many other hits after this one (first "Rock The Night", then the ballad "Carrie" then "Cherokee", "Superstitious" etc). Europe had 2 other albums before this one (the album is also called "The Final Countdown") but it's with this one that they made their worldwide breakthrough thanks to this song alone. And this song is as you said truly "EPIC". You found the right word to describe it.
I am not surprised that this was such a huge hit. I have a, yes vinyl album, of various artists, of that time, and yes, this is one of the big hits of that time. Not to be egotistic, but I can reach his high note. I will be 70 in December. The reason I haven't placed anything on media is because I'm very shy.
Europe with their hit "The Final Countdown" is maybe the best rock hit in the middle -end of 80's ... This type of music was called Eurodance !! and this song is the anthem of Eurodance music !! I love this song, so energetic as you said Dereck !!
One of my all tome fave artists and such nice guys too …. Ive met them many times over the years and sat chatting pre gig too and having a laugh. They are still going today and working on the follow up to their 15th album Walk The Earth …. You need to listen to Rock The Night, Carrie & Cherokee from the Final Countdown album and then Superstitious, Open Your Heart, Seven Doors Hotel, Stormwind, Prisoners In Paradise, Got To Have Faith, Flames, Always The Pretenders, Hero, War Of Kings, Walk The Earth, Pictures, Days of Rock n Roll, Rainbow Bridge, Let The Good Times Rock & I’ll Cry For You …… some great hits and deep cuts there for you to listen to …… an amazing live act and to think The Final Countdown turned 30 years old back in 2016 & I was there at the Roundhouse in London for the taping of the official BluRay etc and they sounded just as good as they did when I saw them back in 1986 with my best friend Samm at the Playhouse in Edinburgh ….. we are still best friends and as mad on Europe and other bands we discovered back then ….. she’s even got her son educated in “good music” she caught him in his bedroom behind a closed door rocking out to Bon Jovi Living On A Prayer …….. very proud moment and I had a tear too …… got to listen to more of these guys and you’ll see why we love them so much !!!

My god. I was so fan et so il love about the singer. I still have the Album vinyl and I still llisten it. 😍😍😍
Thank you.
I just love that song. Every rock party or rock event this song is there! Yeahhh
Hello Dereck ,great! After a long time i hear the song again.Fantastic.It also reminds me of New Year's Eve!I think almost everyone knows this Song!!!!Thank you Dereck for your reaction!💝💝🐬😃🐬🐬
Great 80s anthem, gotta love the guitar solo.
Love it. And that guitar solo, wow!!
europe was the first band i ever was a fan of...and they are stille great
Of course you love it!! 😂😂😂 👍
"The Final Countdown" is such an iconic 80s song.
I like it a lot from time to time, but I couldn't listen to the song all day.
Keeps it special imo.
Epic! Love this so much!
back in the 80's or 90's this song was always used for the walk on, even the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan used it for the walk on announcing all the NBA players.
I love the simple but very powerful bass line at double speed, makes it very energetic.
These guys are THE GOAT!!
Even for someone who doesn't appreciate hair heavy metal music as much still think there are a few great ones out there, this is one, and Van Halen's Jump os the other one...
I knew it! Dereck is a rocker! 🤘🏻😃
Come on now! It is impossible that you haven't ever heard that song before or have you been living under a rock?
This is just a classic!
Worldwide smash hit from 1986
I have been reacting to this twice in my life...once in the eighties and the next time at the milleniumshift!!
So There you have it!!
I'm almost to full of it cause like been there done it!!
Saw Europe at a festival couple of years ago and they were nothing like they used to bee...and thats a little bit sad....and I'm a swede so Ihave
Sorry my reaction got away?!!:
But my meaning got a cross I think....
Masterpiece 👍
I am not surprised that this was such a huge hit. I have a, yes vinyl album, of various artists, of that time, and yes, this is one of the big hits of that time. Not to be egotistic, but I can reach his high note. I will be 70 in December. The reason I haven't placed anything on media is because I'm very shy.
Europe with their hit "The Final Countdown" is maybe the best rock hit in the middle -end of 80's ... This type of music was called Eurodance !! and this song is the anthem of Eurodance music !! I love this song, so energetic as you said Dereck !!
Strange. Exactly this (and hophip) made me lose all hope for popular music in the late 80s.
Why middle-end- it is mid 80's full-stop lol
Also this is not Eurodance- this is Rock/Pop!
@@mikekaraoke Thank you, I believed that was Eurodance !!
@@nicolasdelamare4298 Eurodance is like-Snap! Rhythm Is a Dancer
Great reaction Dereck
YES! Entrance Song! The Detroit Pistons (Bad Boys Days) used this to introduce the players. And Yes...It was EPIC!
