The "Grand Meaulnes" is a character in a famous french novel "Le Grand Meaulnes" that speaks about evolution between childhood and adulthood.
The begining is like a dream : the narrator that is a 12 years old boy is lost in a forest and he finds a castle in the night. There is a feast in the castle because of a marriage. But the fiance has disappeared and the fiancee is very sad.
When he is adult he tries to find again this castle, and tries to know where is now the lost fiance...

Très jolie chanson... Pour le petite histoire. L'une des premières chansons de François Feldman qui s'intitule Slave. François Feldman a essayé de joindre Goldman pour faire un duo avec Jean-Jacques. Malheureusement après plusieurs tentatives et quelques mois d'attente François Feldman n'a pas réussi a contacter Goldman et a décidé de chanter Slave tout seul. Goldman est une idole pour Feldman et ils ont en commun des origines slaves.
Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on François Feldman.The song is good, a smash/huge HIT at the time (1989) but not one of my favorite cuz too heard and broadcast on the radios and TV channels. I like him, he has very good songs in 80's and 90's and he's a HITMAKER as they say in the business!
Les Valses De Vienne ( The Waltzes From Vienna) is a song released on November 23, 1989 as the second single from his second album "Une Présence" (A Presence), ranked No. 1 for 6 non consecutive weeks in TOP 50 and will be certified gold for 400,000 sales. It'll also be a success in Quebec.
This title is part of one of the greatest successes of his career and his repertoire in the 80's, a "MASTERPIECE" because it mixes classical music with the modern 80's rhythms of the time.
The instruments you hear are those of the philharmonic orchestra of the Paris Opera.
The music video is really sumptuous in its aesthetics. It shows us a couple dancing in a huge hall of a castle, alternating with scenes of Viennese waltzes in the modern era.
It is surely for this classy side, combined with this waltz / pop sound, which make this title a real success and which still appeals to so many French people.
As for his second album Une Présence released on October 22, 1989 (also containing the hit "Joue Pas" in duet with Joniece Jamison), it will be sold over a million copies and will be certified diamond disc in 1991 and ranked no. 2 to the TOP ALBUM!

PS 2 : François Feldman found his "professional soul mate" in the person of Jean-Marie Moreau, a great lyricist in France just like Fabrice Aboulker to whom we also owe all the hits of MARC LAVOINE in the 80's and 90's.

Favourite song of my mum when it came out, used to hate it
Good song. Unfortunatly, he's not much broadcasted nowadays & you don't & won't see him on TV anymore. In 1996, during the Telethon, he unintentionally made a blunder while he was singing. Indeed, he was entertaining the audience when he said : "Everybody up !" ... the 3/4 of the audience were children in wheelchairs.
What???? Did this really happen?

It's a ternary rhythm ! each beat is split in three, one two three, one two three etc...And it's called à "Valse", but you don't need a "Valse" to have a ternary rythm for example nothing else matter from Metallica is a ternary rhytm
