He has some of the best acting range in the whole business and I love how he seems to enjoy taking on roles that challenge him more than just pay him well, which I think is why he’s been in so many smaller, independent films in his career as opposed to just well known mainstream ones
It was really touching when he just broke down on the floor and she hugged him later on and tells him the following: "If the sky were to suddenly open up, there would be no law, there would be no rule. There would only be you and your memories. If this world were to end, there would only be you... and him... and no one else."
I love this movie.. it changed something in me though I cannot say what it is... Jake is a great actor... in my opinion this is his best role... of course they were other great movies, but here he is just,... awesome... this sadness in his voice all the time... great...
This movie is a masterpiece Gyllenhaal performance in this movie is outstanding a breakthrough touching the audience that character playing as Donnie Darko good movie.
i was really able to relate to this movie when i first saw it. i have this kind of fear of being abandoned and dying with no one else to say goodbye to. but tht was until i found a great girl to be with. and not it's not so much a fear of dying alone, knowing that me n her will last and she knows tht too, but a fear of just being abandoned. but i can still relate to this.
@@markiepookiee it wasn't easy but I have gone through a couple rough breakups and am now with a girl I could really tell I love. Time does wonders to healing pain.
You're not alone. You only allow yourself to believe that you are. I read about all this loneliness and it reminds me that not long ago I felt the same. I went to see a some one who would listen to me and discovered that I really wasn't alone. It didn't matter that he was paid to listen to me. What mattered that he decided to be someone who wanted to hear my story. I left his office changed for ever. You are not alone.
I find it uplifting to think we all began as one, and we will always be one, no matter what variables the Universe hands out that affects our actual mass. We will always be one.
Although the mocking about fear-love cliche, this movie was all about that. The loop he got caught into taught him what love is in order not to fear to die. You are never alone...
I had a dog named Cali...(where we lived) .... .....but I like how at the end his therapist is the first one to wake with unease...she probably knew him better than anyone in the tangent.
They filmed this scene take after take and each time Gyllenhal filled the role of DOnnie better and better simply due to how well he performed the previous run.
I work in the Mental Health industry and guess what? Mental illness is not reserved for only those that believe in a religion. By the way believing in God and having religion don't necessarily go hand in hand. There are many who believe and don't follow any set religion. And just for the record I am for more happy to have struggled with Depression, which millions do, than to have to deal with living with self inflicted ignorance.
If God is actually alone, he is so because he chose it. If this God actually exists, I would think he has created a VERY VAST different forms of life. If I was god and every being that I created went through hardship at some point wether being the weakest or strongest made me "sad and cry", I would stop. I may not be God, but I doubt he's crying over this.
I get an aching feeling everytime I see this part. Such a great acting job, honestly, e's the perfect fit for donnie ! so much emotion. it's in the eyes ):
At one point in my life i was really alone. And I thought I will always be alone, and that I will die all alone without ever having experienced love or true friendship. I was so fucking afraid of dying alone. Maybe anyone thinks that at some point. But I will tell you something: There will be times, when you're alone, but there will be times you're not. Those times make you forget all fear about dying alone....
When many think of God, they think of a deity that is all-powerful and all-good. However, when seeing the world that God created, with all of its evil, misery, and suffering, there's really only one thing to conclude: That God is either not all-powerful, or not all-good.
I don't like the inclusion of God in this scene. I don't get why it's there. The silly Love/Fear cult stuff functions as a metaphor for religion. Stupid America and its stupid God obsession.
*God is indeed All-Powerful. And he is indeed All-Good. He is all these things.* The answer for why he allowed the world to exist in the way it did may suprise you. It's not the answer anyone was looking for. But here's the one we have. You see, the Bible towards the end of revelations speaks about how God wants humanity to rule alongside him in the distant future. However, if we don't respect God's authority, or if we simply don't understand our roles next to him. Such a future becomes impossible. So he created this master plan before any of us were born. A plan to create the Devil and give the world over to him. So that he would have a clear antagonists opposing all that he stands for. By doing this, God sought out to do 3 things for himself and humans. #1)Make humans feel Love and compassion as they get hurt, causing them to care for others. #2) To create servants with their own free will. So that People would either willingly serve him on their own or simply choose to serve the devil. Almost like seperating those who clearly love him and those who don't. Because he dosen't want puppets who love him at every turn on command. And #3) the third reason, is to show us a world without God's complete presence. So that we would know what it feels like to be powerless without him. Ultimately so that we understand we need his power later on. Because in the old testament, God showed himself all the time. And people still committed evil constantly, as is human nature on a very basic level. So he stopped showing himself, and took a very different approach to humanity. Knowing that those who believed in him even without sight, would be the most trust worthy of all humans.
It was about love conqueroring the fear of death, the fear of dieing alone which we all have. This was actually also a modern re-write of the Gospel, which should be apparent.
This movie blows my mind every time I see it. I am religious and try to be a good Christian...mainly because if Christianity never came to my life, I would've died alone a long time ago.
As a friend of mine said "religion is allright, as long as everyone admits to themselves that we humans made it all up" no part of reality supports religion aside from our inherent need for it...
i feel alone.. always. i feel like there is no other objective reality.. any other consciousness floating around out there. this scene struck a chord with me. after a while i just stopped debating WHY i am alone.. why i feel like there is no other subjectivity out there. did i create this? i feel like that guy from the truman show.. except i know that i am part of a tv show.
everyone dies alone, thus the point of death, two beings cannot share the same energy and even when in the presence of others while dying they cannot feel the same state of emotion
It's not the search for god, it's the search for a greater meaning to our painful existence that drives us to become more meaningful...if there is a god or there is not isvnot the point, the search for meaning gets us through the hard times and the dark times.[edit] that's not to say that I adore this film and the questions it asks. [Edit edit edit] the search for god is the same as the search for truth...atbleastvthey are if we understand what we should want...that's probably inaccurate but it's an inaccuracy, indeed a conceit, that gives me hope.

There's something ambiguous about this assertion that 'everyone dies alone'. Yes, the subjective experience of dying can be experienced by you and you only. There's something ambiguous about this assertion that 'everyone dies alone'.
Yes, the subjective experience of dying can be experienced by you and you only. You have to go through it, and you can't take anyone with you. So in that sense everyone dies alone.
