I love how this one small scene can evoke laughter (Hungry hungry hippos.), sadness (When he hugs the Dr.), and fright (Frank. End of story.) all at once. This movie is brilliant.
So I'm completely infatuated with Donnie Darko and I love how Jake Gyllenhaal has this kind of baby voice throughout this whole movie (and thats just kind of how his voice is) like when he says "Go home! Go home and tell your parents everythings gonna be okay!" I don't know, it breaks my heart cause he sounds like a little kid. Ehh... yeah? hah.
IT might have something to do with how people tend to act younger and regress their age when under hypnosis. Not sure if this is what the director/writers had in mind but thats what I always thought.
I was watching the bathroom scene with my friend, and it went like, Donnie: "Where did you come from?" Frank: "Do you believe in... time travel?" us: "WHHHAAAAAAAT!?!" it was awesome
When he turns around to the therapist to hug her, I truely thought he was going to start sobbing. But it seems the therapist got real uncomfortable after a split second.. This movie was wicked confusing to me, but good. Jake rocks!
does anyone have a theory on this scene. the coldness of what the therapist tells donnie (it would only be you, and him) is juxtaposed with how comfortingly she says it, imo.
like what are we, as the audience, supposed to take from this scene? it’s such an awful thing she says to donnie - “it would only be you, and him.” it compounds his loneliness- even if frank is imaginary even to donnie, how horrible for someone he trusts to say that.
She is one of the manipulated living (ML) in this tangent universe they all find themselves in. The ML all indirectly drive the living receiver ( Donnie) to correct the order of things. Similar to how his english and science teachers both indirectly guide him to Roberta Sparrow’s house on halloween.
Predictive programming. One theory is that Frank is God, as the therapist points out, and Donnie is the antichrist. At the end, when Satan breaks through the veil separating Heaven and Earth (the sky opening up) to bring the fight to God, it's only them. The outcome is already known. He loses. He's afraid.
@furfeyl She's one of the manipulated dead but not to the extent of Donnie, she's just knows something is up. She jsut doesn't have the full knowledge. You can kind of see that, I think, towards the end.
@lonewolf77dolphin frank was trying to apologize he didnt want to kill gretchen even in the theater he says to donnie "sorry" i think he didnt know if he did i think he would try to prevent her death
Um. I find this funny. That's pretty much it. A phrase like "lol" or "haha" won't express the physical grin I get from reading your comment. So thanks, I think.
I have to see a therapist tomorrow, I think I'm going to re-create this scene.
So how did It go?
@@spateri728bro never got his answer
Did u do it

Donnie darko cuddling the dog toy was always so adorable to me. I still felt bad for him; but still.
I always loved how Donnie picks up the stuffed animal to calm himself down.
Gotta have something to hold to haha
Donnie is adorable! It's like his subconscious can only be expressed through the diction of a child. great acting!

I think it’s just his natural inflection of portraying Donnie, also Jake was 20 when they filmed this in 3 weeks. He was fresh out of high school
"How did you feel being denied these. . .hungry, hungry hippos?"
regret :/
It made me mad when she said, "If the world were to end then it would only be you and him" BITCH dont tell him that now he's gonna be more freaked out
LOL at "I want to talk about your past today."
"Noooo.." 0:04
"The skies are gonna open up"i love that line
i watched this movie for the first time last week, ever since Frank has been plaguing my dreams
When he starts crying I want to hug him so bad. It's so sad!
The scene it shows for a split second in the beginning is one of the best scenes in the movie.
Aww! Jake is so adorable in this scene! Especially when he starts crying and cuddles with that stuffed animal...he's just so darn cute! :D
This scene SCARED THE LIVING FUCK NUGGETS OUT OF ME
love this film and at above re: the baby voice in that scene--I concur.
This scene is terrifying.
what an incredible scene. so creepy. I CAN SEE HIM RIGHT NOW!!!
Its so cute the way he says "Hungry hungry hippos" ^^
I love how jake can change his emotinans (i didnt spell that right...) so quickly he is a great actor in a great movie
FINALLY. This is the scene I wanted to see
I was watching the bathroom scene with my friend, and it went like,
Donnie: "Where did you come from?"
Frank: "Do you believe in... time travel?"
us: "WHHHAAAAAAAT!?!"
it was awesome
That sudden camera switch to Frank had to be one of the best jump scares I’ve seen in a while 😅😅
this part made me cry. :(
When he turns around to the therapist to hug her, I truely thought he was going to start sobbing. But it seems the therapist got real uncomfortable after a split second.. This movie was wicked confusing to me, but good. Jake rocks!
It's scenes like this that make Frank so disturbing.
Revisiting this scene because I had a scary dream about it last night. Didn't remember the bit about Hungry Hungry Hippos.
Frank is the manipulated dead and Donnie is the manipulated living.

My favorite scene :)
This is such a depressing scene, but still love it o.O
I have to obey him he saved my life!
donnie goes to get a teddy.....love it!
xx
i can see him right now!
i love how she thinks she knows what he's talking about after the sky is going to open up part, she's kind of right but still haha
I watched this when I was 10 and had nightmares about Frank lol I'm surprised I grew into a functioning normal adult 😅
Wow. That rabbit...person...thing is so freaky! I want to see this movie!
scene made me jump when frank looked up
scariest scene, but one of the best
@furfeyl She's one of the manipulated dead but not to the extent of Donnie, she's just knows something is up. She jsut doesn't have the full knowledge. You can kind of see that, I think, towards the end.
@PutMeOnAPlane Me too, i love the movie and its my favorite movie

Um. I find this funny. That's pretty much it. A phrase like "lol" or "haha" won't express the physical grin I get from reading your comment. So thanks, I think.
DONNIE DARKO 2 :3
@LilytheSonicMermaid towards the end when Gretchen gets hit by the car :o the kid in the car is like "what the fuck did you do!?"
@BatDude27 Don't worry. Only the rabbit is scary. It's not much of a horror movie after all. It's more of a fantasy drama.
Psychosis defined
@Nightraven117
Frank is a badass.
2:16 I jumped in surprise. xD
he’s literally me
@Meta259 he was looking at donnie
Jake's head is so big :) :P
그는 내 인생 전체에 걸쳐 나타날거에요.
I love his slur, ha.
@BatDude27 OMG I totally had nightmares but I swear its worth it :D
@Spectic
I believe her role is less significant to Donnie, and exist more to cause the audience to question the nature of the film's events.
I did it again. :D
@BatDude27 ull not. its a great film, u shud watch it.
*claps*
