I am pretty sure that modern automatic gear selector is nothing else than electronic switches and a bit of SW. They could have replaced those switches with some cool buttons at least.
But then when they redesign the interior into a modern and flashy feel, it won't fit the styling of the car and it makes it look bizzare. But i would agree that gear knob needs to be removed and replaced with just a column shifter.

@@raymondnewbill5294 I've only had experience with BMW's straight six's with the 435i Convertible a family friend let me take out. The pops and burbles on downshifts and upshifts were absolutely intoxicating. I can only imagine how much better the B58 is over the N55.
Out of all the cars using that engine, I feel the Morgan is the one that should have been a manual. The Z4 and Supra are modern GT/Sports cars, so I can understand the exclusively automatic gearbox. But isn't the appeal of a Morgan that it is intended to feel more raw and involving?
If BMW didn't make a manual with the b58, good luck. I'm sure they will add it once it's available, but manual transmission options take a low priority
The cost of getting a Morgan legally saleable in Australia means that it's a very rare site on our roads, but I think it looks great and I can't see anything wrong with the interior. It does look a bit like the interior's we are used to seeing in high end hot rods but I see that as a positive thing. I suspect that after a couple of months of ownership other cars would seem rather lacking in flair. It probably should be a manual but perhaps it was to big a job to separate the auto from the computer. No car made in low numbers is cheap so its not too expensive. I can't have one but I'm glad it exists.
I wish brands just stopped using dry weights. Maybe all the performance measures should be conducted in that configuration too! Would get you a nice 0-60 of however steep the hill is.

Po 2-3 tygodniach drogi już są naprawione i znów można latać. Tylko, że mandaty bardzo podrożały w Polsce i na policję oraz fotoradary trzeba uważać.
Morgan jest fajny pod warunkiem, że jeździsz nim bez dachu. Jak założysz dach, do szału doprowadza świst powietrza i klekotanie niektórych elementów. Nie słychać tego podczas jazdy bez dachu, bo wtedy czujesz dzikość morgana i otaczającą naturę. Osobiście z brytyjskich zabawek wybrał bym jednak tvr chimaera. A najchętniej model cerbera ze stałym dachem. Nie mam na myśli kształtu nadwozia, a użyte materiały. Nie lubię drewna, ani aluminium. Wolę stal i laminat. Szkoda, że tvr już nie istnieje.
Absolutely wonderful looking car I love it! This is pure lottery win for me. For all those talking about the gear lever, the cost to develop a new one must be much much bigger than anyone imagines. The Toyota also uses the same. So there’s clearly a very good reason why it wasn’t so simple to change. A company like Morgan can’t develop a manual box either if one doesn’t exist off the shelf. They just don’t have the resources. Great car, wish Morgan all the best for the future 🙏

That interior is bloody awful!! the Horrendous BMW gear shifter has been mentioned too many times in the comments... but what about that Sport + button?? I would be revoke my order faster than this thing may accelerate. I'd take the + 4 over this purely for that reason.
Morgan should have gone to Lotus and put one of their supercharged Toyota engines in with their lovely manual gearshifts because that engine sounds better and better the harder you push it.
Regardless of the gear shifter, the look is fantastic. Most people won't even see the shifter, the car is so cool. Sounds like a great cruiser for those that can afford a nice weekend cruiser.
Gorgeous car, a perfect balance of classic and modern design and features. I assume the BMW shift knob is there for cost reasons: not only it was cheaper and faster to marry the BMW engine with its corresponding BMW transmission, but because the knob is so "integral" to the transmission itself (what with all those buttons and LED indicators for the shift positions), a custom-designed knob would've been too expensive for Morgan. and IMHO it doesn't detract that much from the beauty and "Britishness" of this car.
The BMW Auto box is to appeal to all those who can't drive properly, have spare cash and think that buying a Morgan is the cool thing to do. - just as they approach their 65th birthday and sell up to retire to the countryside or beach. I can see why Morgan used the BMW engine, but Borg-Warner or Getrag should have a 6 speed manual, that's bolts straight on. But then, Auto boxes and their reliability are hard to beat
Well produced video. Someone should take this to 'Pure Turbos' to get a B58 Stage 2 upgrade for 540hp+. That amount of power in a 1000kg body that looks like a car from the 1940s will be a deathtrap and an unexpected missile!

I just checked the BMW website, thinking that maybe the manual gearbox had been dropped from the option list on the M4, but it's still offered. I'm disappointed that the manual wasn't in this car... regardless of the fact that it's not liable to find it's way into my garage anyway. My 19 year old 330xi will probably be there for quite a while yet. I like it far better than any of the new models. The 5-speed and all-wheel-drive will get my anywhere I need to go, any time I need to get there.
I owned a BMW 335i with the same engine and its a cracking unit.... No turbo lag and tons of torque from low revs.. Drove like a small block V8 but higher revving at the top. Mine was manual and dont know why this isnt a manual?
I like the style of the Plus Six. Has a nostalgic tone, the way it whips down UK roads like it was being reunited with the asphalt. And uh, if the B58 available as a crate engine? Is BMW desperate for something? Just asking.
There are different models with different shifters , what I like about Morgan is their GT model and some mew one off models. If you guy have time ,please take a tour of their factory , it was an amazing experience for me .
Auto box is just right. With an ageing population they are aiming sales at the older age groups. Morgan's research shows that this age group has more disposable income than millennials. The above is said in jest so more serious point. Did anyone think that the horn/centre hub looked like a MINIS badge?
As you said in your later vid about the new Plus Four: it has all the power you need and a manual gear box with a stick you don't have to be ashamed of.
I visited Morgan factory this week and joined the factory tour. It was fascinating to see the details of production and witnessing the heritage. However, I also learned that 9 out of 10 car that Morgan produce has the automatic transmission. I think, a real petrolhead would never fancy that. And I also think Morgan is too expensive what it offers, therefore the company is not really targeting petrolheads at all.
Fantastic video, Henry can you do a similar review of the Frontline Abingdon Edition? Both cars are similar prices and I think would appeal to a similar audience.
A fantastic car to say anything else is sour grapes. Outside the British Isles the best place to drive this magnificent automobile is the coast line of Nova Scotia with special emphases on the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Other great locations out side of Europe would include the coast of NFLD. Both are great summer drives in a Morgan.
The only way I'm taking this over a Z4 is: A) it would need to have a hard roof w/ wind up windows (not that god awful drive-thru slide window), B) the steering wheel would have to be changed and new paddles (aluminum or carbon) attached, C) the gear knob needs to the thrown out and replaced w/ a wooden knob with the gears milled into the face (stained in a cherry wood color, w/ ivory colored paint to fill the gear markings that were milled, and all of it cleared in an eggshell finish), D) those seats would be tossed out and replaced with something with a bit more bolstering. With all of those changes made it would probably be well north of $120,000 and I would just go buy something else at that point.

This is one of my dream cars. It's so unpratical that I can see that will be hard to enjoy it. But it is a beauty.
