- Chris and Neil drive to Geneva in a 370hp Morgan with equipment for 4 video shoots over 7 days. No trunk, Or boot, it whatever you call it where you live.
Finally: A use for the Guardian!
Apparently a proper British adventure must always involve cold, wet skin and lack of visibility. Significant wind chill enhances the excitement level.
It does appear to be traditional. A century ago, Biggles began the morning by surveying no man's land from eight thousand feet or so, being deafened by the Bentley and frozen by the slipstream, and ingesting caster oil to aid his digestion while the Bosche and the magneto tried to kill him, which would be fair game if they'd just take turns, but when they gang up like this... Leave popular fiction aside and look at Britain's real heroes. Scot of the Antarctic. Mallory the mountaineer. Laurence of Arabia. Douglas Bader and his lack of legs. Andy Green, world's only supersonic motorist.
Kneedragon1962 Oh hell yes! One could add a couple of dozen more names to that list without even trying!
That's just British weather....
For some reason I keep coming back to this video from time to time. Good times for Chris Harris content.
You found a use for The Guardian! That's the most impressive thing I've ever seen!
Can't believed I missed this in 2012. Great video!
Always bring a towel with you on any journey in a Morgan! ;-)
If you think this is far from perfect, try my 1995 MG RV8, Chris! But you’re spot on with the sentiment. Suffering and ecstasy hand in hand. Great review. 👍
Good presenter, good journo, good driver!! Come on Top Gear!
Seeing how difficult it is for Chris to get in it, I understand why Richard Hammond loves Morgans so much.
Great video, just the right blend of lunatic on day release, happy car nut and open mind. Love the car to bits. Really good production given the model used, very impressive, shows off the car really well. If the hood was water tight I would be saving for it now. As Top Gear have seemingly fallen off the cliff from a true car nuts point of view we need more content like this to replace it. Go mainstream Chris, get on the IQ-Reducer full time.
Good car but notice the way the top of the BMW logo pops out from underneath the Morgan badge at 7:13. They could've made some new cam covers...
It reminds me of long ago adventures in a not at all weatherproof TR3. Best fun!
Love the 24 clock-ticking sound!
awesome guys ! proper adventure.. spirits remain high
He averaged about 66.38mph for 780 miles. Thats pretty fast!
"Some years ago, Soichiro Honda, the late founder of the Honda Motor Company, reviewed the way the motor industry was restructuring itself, with smaller marques being swallowed up to become part of ever bigger conglomerates. Mr. Honda observed that eventually there would be only a half a dozen major car makers in the world. Then after a pause he added, 'and Morgan'. What Mr. Honda had recognised in Morgan was not so much the idiosyncracy that many outsiders see, but rather it's core values."
Chris has gone a long way since I've started following him years ago!
I just tried one of those. They are much better than shown in the report. Soooo much fun to drive. I placed an order jesterday.
Well done Mr Harris, fine commentary, with beautiful characterful car...I want one...,:)
HE IS COOKIN' IT at 5:56 !!! just check out that speed difference to the truck he passes! Hellz Jaaa!
jesus, i love the car but it has absolutely no water sealing, a car that price shouldn't even have to worry about that.
It was pre-production car.
Man that thing leaks in the rain, but sounds like a A/C Cobra 427 when he was on it. And yeah, great T-shirt at the end.
I'm an American and I 100% agree and understood the "Morgan message" so to speak :D
Sounds like Morgan are doing exactly what they should be, great video Drive keep up the great work!
Haha.. First man to find a proper use for 'The Guardian' :)
I chuckled at the '24' timer sound effects.
I like chris harris videos, keep up the good work chris harris
Chris & Matt for Top Gear America!
They really need to work on improving that bloody roof
The good people at The Daily Mail also have a family to feed you know
It’s a joke, they need to make the roof watertight and not send one out until it is
It's not the roof, it's thee side curtains. You're never going to get the tightness of regular roll up windows. This is made for fun (and looks!)
They were like this 50 years ago = no progress.
Chris Harris hits the spot when im missing my top gear fix
"i want to smell the mountains..... AHH!" haha , awesome car though, i could tell that it had a bmw motor in it right away by that sound.
9:00 "I want to smell the mountains....HA" - GB is the stuff :D
ahhhh yes, Wednesday is now my favorite day of the week =D
awsome test you guys! thank you!
excellent as always. when top gear dies.... this will be the show to watch... being as it is their 18th season.... the clock is clicking
Awesome car, and one more awesome car review from Chris Harris. Only a little more driving action, and try to get that V8 sound into the video better.
I Love your interviews and I hope with this new Morgan you could do a video or a review comparing the Morgan vs Caterham 7 CSR. I would like to know your opinion because I do enjoy looking and watching both of these cars. They are both beautiful cars to me and hopefully everyone gets a chance to be in one of them if not both.
Chris is the best car reviewer on UA-cam!
nice job Chirs and drive team that's one of hella trip !
good looking ride with a thumping motor!!! maybe a better drive in the summer! I like it!!!
Good on you, Chris. But, now I'll have to show you [and all] my Charles Morgan interview we did at Sebring that's sitting on the edit room floor!! Interesting stuff about your BMW engine and more.
Chris Harris has driven many hyper/super cars. He likes the Morgan. What does this tell us? That it's a fun experience... Not the safest. Not the fastest. Not the most refined. Which of these is most important? We'll never agree.
Personally it makes me proud that hand-made Morgans still exist in a world of bland, robot-built toy-cars. A decade from now when they're rusting in piles, replaced by newer models, the Morgans will live-on giving their owners endless hours of unadulterated driving fun.
My favourite test on the "new" Morgan Plus 8 - well done!!!
Beautiful and fun car in my view!
Chris Harris you legend.
Beautiful car.
Neil, anytime you need a day off I will be gladly and respectfully take your spot.
Great video @TheHarrismonkey and @drive really enjoyed it. One thing though, those are not Avon ZZR's. The ZZR is a track-day semi slick tire that looks like nothing like the ones on the car in video. Yes I do know I'm a nerd.
You can quickly get past the fit & finish issues of a small British company when you realize this is a modern AC Cobra with BMW V8 ///Muscle. I like it =)
I noticed that too. Quite subtle.
Chris, you are a legend.
I would like to own one , I have a TD ,, for that open driving , not like a US convertible not a motorcycle ,,but if fun is what your looking for, there is not much better . The wind, the rain, the heat ,the cold ,the looks and smiles you get from a unique ride ,more than my Camaro ,,,just wish i bought a Morgan you just can't get them easily
I'm six two and used to drive my dad's old plus 4 four seat (when he wasnt looking) and there was enough room for my legs in the long footwell, and clearance for my head.. I do hope they havent shrunk because I want a plus 8 badly!
The amazing thing is that the British roadster sill keeps its character after a 22 year Japanese invasion into this segment. I mean the leaking roof.
Chris Harris should be one of top gear members!
As I understand it that is the standard airbag steering wheel... most owners whip it off and get a nice non-airbag one instead.
love the clock counter noise, just like 24
A Harris Video.......YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
And that is just brilliant!
Another quality vid by Chris. A true petrol head.
Absolutely. It's "unsafe" in the same way as a motorcycle may be unsafe, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be on sale. People are so wrapped up in government regulated NCAP this and NHTSA that, they forget about how fun and involving driving a car should be.
You gotta love that V8!
The mere fact that the cabin allows water to enter it, and drench the doors and instrument panel should just convince people to stay clear from investing into such a car. Yes, sports carts are about the experience and the drama, and yes not all cars a perfect, and their annoyances are what make up their character, but BUILD QUALITY is not an aspect to fall short on! No pun or offense intended Chris! I would rather enjoy my time in a Wiesmann MF3 or MF4 Roadster. An amazing video as always Chris!
Chris did say it wasn't the finished production car, I'm sure when the cars get sent to customers Morgan with have fixed that problem.
it seems like it's either cloudy or raining in every one of chris harris' videos
sounds nice and looks nice
I'm glad to see the 4.0 is back on the road. Morgan makes really cool cars all around be it the +8 or the new Three Wheeler, I mean who the hell wouldn't like a Morgan?
80,000pounds and it leaks when raining- I like Morgans but damn-not that much. And it appears not to have a defroster for the windshield.
YES same height as Chris Harris ... awesome
now that's some craftmanship :)
This is interesting since almost any other car they test would be a dream to do a cross country drive in but they picked this one. Great content for us haha
This car is British, so it's creators shouldn't be blamed for not getting it properly sealed from rain. Gotta love these British long summers.
what a dream car!!
If i had the money i would definitley get a Morgan, they rule!
the whole cast of drive + fld should run top gear america
Nice tee at the end haha.
Good commercial for the Wiesmann roadster.
Love that shirt at the end!
Nice road test. For me, it's unacceptable to get an expensive car and have water getting into the car. You not only buy a brand but also a quality, even more when it's not a cheap car.
A video i needed
Chris, I hope you wore that Hoonigan shirt while you dropped the car off in Geneva.
Great video, as usual !
It wouldn't take much to make a roof that doesn't leak.
Yes, but have you noticed how rarely it rains when you're driving a Morgan?
fine example of ignorance. If you think you know how to simply make a roof that doesnt leak, on a car especially, you really are ignorant. Look at the number of convertibles out there with "normal" counterparts in the model range and compare it to 20-30 years ago and the number is huge. Its not an easy and simple thing, making a roof that seals well but is also removable/convertible. Im not condoning that manufacturers are okay to let their roofs leak, but yeah.
So get one of the designers of one of those other cars to help out
YOU JUST DID IT AGAIN, OH NOES!
Good job Chris
Will there be a Maserati review in Drive's future?
Because i'd love to see what they guys think of the Grand Turismo base model
Like it...looks cool
I really love morgans
Wonder if it will come with left hand drive..great video..better car!
Your right on the Cost quality ratio, but watch Mega Factories production of the Dodge Challenger or any other US car and you can see why most still don't compare well to the EU ones.
love the 24-clock sound effect..... i miss 24... :-(
Would love a Morgan ... would just set off any collection of cars!
The thing is the price of this car can easily overide any opinion you may have had on it. Chris summed it up, its like an AC Cobra, its a muscle car, its all about the engine, and the noise and the performance comes with it. Sure you can get a Maserati for the same money which is 'better' really this car doesn't have any rivals, therefore the price which you will always think is that bit too much is justified. Ooops, i just made an opinion on the car about the price. how ironic
@apinner: Some of us Americans get it. And wholeheartedly agree with you.
Pity Chris Harris doesn't mention test driver Norman Dewis's epic 1961 drive from the Jaguar factory to the Geneva show in 77RW, the first E-Type cabriolet, making it to the launch event with just 20 minutes to spare.
The illuminated speedometer is the most easily visible one I've ever seen.
But that's no mere mortal. That's his lordship Sir Monkey himself. :)
This Morgan Plus 8 would be perfect with the Jaguar supercharged 5L bomb under the hood.
Love the fact that you can still buy a car like this, but jesus, it leaks more than my mistreated old Saab convertible in a rain storm.
Bless.. The Americans just don't get it! Morgan are not selling you a car for 100k, they're selling you an experience, character, true heritage and an ideal of what a sports car should be! How about we be thankful companies like Morgan are still around and producing unique cars, the world would be a worse off place without them!
