As a mets fan and someone who followed Bartolo since 97/98 i appreciate you making this video. I used to watch all the Mets games on tv and got to see Bartolo hit that honerun on live tv. I couldnt believe it and Gary Cohen did an amazing job from the booth. I love the mets, Bartolo's time here was special.
As a White Sox fan, we called him, "El Heavy." It was a nickname of endearment, as he was insanely popular in Chi-Town, so lang as he wasn't wearing an Indians uni!
True, but his point remains valid. The '98 Yanks - including the postseason - won 125 games and were an absolute juggernaut. Dominating a team of that caliber in October is pretty damn impressive.
Bartolo Colón is the ultimate underdog story obese, boozy, and underestimated, yet he outsmarted the game for 21 years. Who needs abs when you’ve got baseball IQ and a cult following?
@11:55 "despite showing up over 30lbs overweight..." as opposed the svelte form he had prior to those 30lbs 🤣 I mock the Shawn Kemps and Pablo Sandovals of sports for eating themselves out the hall of fame but Big Sexy was the true HAES exception.
"Just because you have a ring doesn't mean people are going remember you forever" So many of baseball greatest never win a ring, and its just fine because its all about their story, how they got there and what they did with their time. Baseball is beautiful, so how can it not be romantic
Bartolo said in an interview in DR that though he was pitching well in 2011, by the all-star break, he couldn't feel his arm anymore. That was the main reason he did PEDs. However, his arm got back into shape the following seasons, so he did not do it again.
When Bartolo hit the home run, my wife and daughter were upstairs. I could NOT believe that I had just seen what had happened ... so, I pjut two and two together and thought, "It's a sign of the impending Apocalypse." So, I yelled out, "The end of the world is near! The end of the world is near!" My daughter was eight, and she cried out in apprehension, and my wife asked loudly, "What are you saying? Stop saying that!" I replied, "Bartolo Colon just hit a HOME RUN. It's the Sign of the Apocalypse!" She thought about what I had said and asked, incredulously, "Really?" I replied, "Yes--SNY is going to play it again." She came down and couldn't believe what she was seeing ... Colon's starts were always "Must See TV."
Because he just has to throw a ball. This is why I don’t consider baseball a sport or players athlete. Takes skill? Yes. So does darts, pool, and bowling. But that doesn’t make an athlete.
the only thing he did well was last a long time. thats the only thing colon ever did. he didnt destroy half the batters he faced let alone everyone. these titles are garbage
When he pitched for the Mets I loved it, a Sunday softball pitcher striking out MLB dudes
I dont think you can be Dominican and a sunday softball pitcher
Imma guess you related to him. Gordo

“Their timing colon with a sundial” has to be the best annou cer call ever
He didn’t have a drinking problem. Every drop made it down the hatch.

When he was with the A's they called him Two Slices.
@richdiddens4059 HA, that hilarious!
As a lifelong Mets fan, thank you Bartolo for giving us something to watch and for the greatest moment in MLB history!
LGM
Ha.
Bartolo and David Welles would have been the best drinking buddies!
Spelling buddies too
The 114 win Yankees never held the MLB record for wins, Cubs had 116 in 1906

@ cool, still don’t get the need to claim they set the record at the time. Could’ve easily said “broke the AL record”
@JohnSmith-nf5gk Agreed, definitely an error.
Mariners won 116 games in 2001
@ the video said “record at the time”, you might be shocked by this but the 2001 MLB season hadn’t happened yet in 1998.

Bartolo will forever be a legend and an icon
I remember hearing a commentator as a kid say that he threw rocks to knock coconuts out of trees, thats how he developed his arm speed.
In the few years he was with the Mets, Big Sexy was both very popular and loved by his teammates and fans
First time I’ve heard he ever had a drinking problem. MLB will hide their player’s adversities better than anyone.

You don’t know that. Theres no possible way you could
always thought this guy was just a goofy dude like nasty nestor and thats why everyone loved him. had no clue he was a Cy Young 🤯
He was fun too watch
He had command of his pitches, and of the strike zone. He threw strikes, stayed ahead in the count. It's called PITCHING.
Ya throw the ball ya hit the ball ya catch the ball.
As far as booth commentating goes, "Martinez's night ends with a whiff of Colon" is beyond phenomenal.
One other great display of athleticism was when he outran Dee Gordon to first base!
He hit his first (and only) MLB home run at 43 years old.

Colon(WAR 4.0, ERA .348) beating Johan Santana(WAR 7.2, ERA.287 ) is wild.
That outfielder catch at 11:17 tho 👏👏👏👏💪
I seriously thought this might be about David Wells.
Big Fat Bartolo Colon is one of the big fat greats.
You deserve way more subs bro
Substantial Seductive
I remember that guy!
GO TRIBE!!
Just think he has more career home runs than Al Newman and Jason Tyner combined
As a Met’s fan, Bartolo “Big Sexy” Colon is a legend in Queens.
I'd sell my soul for his drinking problem if I could get a 10th of his talent.
I love watching your vids bro ❤🎉😮
Good control = Good pitcher
Dude was a great pitcher his whole career. Yet the first thing I think of when I hear his name is the home run. I can’t be alone.
Probably an all time highlight
Juan Soto lookin ahhh
Juan Soto's absent father
Don't forget his second family :)
GOAT
wild title
Ideal rotation Phil Niekro, Charlie Hough, Bartolo Colon and Gaylord Perry
LOL How 'bout Jamie Moyer as your #5
Big sexy is a GOAT 🐐
Do you mean large attractive?
Stats say he was a better pitcher than Jack Morris
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
First that Domingo was BARTOLO !!
Bartolo no slide.
Probably a great video. But I refuse to watch because of of these terrible Ai thumbnails
It's just proofs that you don't necessarily have to be in shape to play baseball. Colon wouldn't survive in most other major sports.
Bartome De Las Casas
I love the guy, and he’d probably have been good either way, but you can’t leave out his cheating through performance enhancing drugs
I remember when he made all Star with Oakland and no one cheered during it. But the Mets really did it man
Bartalo Colon is my father's wife cousin
Simple. He threw strikes
Because he just has to throw a ball. This is why I don’t consider baseball a sport or players athlete. Takes skill? Yes. So does darts, pool, and bowling. But that doesn’t make an athlete.
Poncho lol. Sounds made up
Putting that in the title for clickbait is fucked
Lol Bartolo cut the ball.
I'm twelve.
Ha.
