- Dustin Pedroia was one of the shortest players in MLB history. But despite this he carved out an excellent 14 year career with the Boston Red Sox which included 3 World Series titles, an MVP and countless more accolades. But he didn't get to the top without facing any adversity...

As a Sox fan, Manny Machado is and will always be a punk for effectively ruining the career of one of the best second basemen in modern baseball history.
As a Padres fan and Second Basemen nerd super fan.
I completely agree.
altuve is well and fine??
@@AstrosPlugdo you have reading comprehension? he said one of the best
@@neuroinverse258 bruh i commented ts at 2am 😭
As a Cardinals fan, Machado is and will always be a punk for more than that (throwing bats, hits catchers with his bat on purpose, ect)
As a Yankee fan, I respected the heck out of this guy. Dude played the game the right way. Lots of heart. Just overall really good ball player. Rivalry aside, you gotta tip your cap some guy no matter what.
Facts as a Yankees fan I always loved how gritty and hard he played the game, they don’t make them the same anymore
Same w Jeter as a Sox fan. Nothing but respect for the way he played the game.
No matter how much our cities hate each other's teams, all the respect in the world for Mariano and Derek!
2008 asg. A rod 3b, Jeter ss, pedroia 2b, youkilis 1b.
Dustin single handedly made me want to play 2nd base as a kid. Always looked up to him ❤
My fav second baseman of all time
As an objective baseball fan - Pedroia was always getting knicked up, HOWEVER; it wasn’t until Manny Machado spiked Pedroia in the knee that he truly missed large amounts of time. It effectively ended his career.
Save thing happened to Craig biggio in 2000 with Preston Wilson sliding into second to break up a double play. He tore both his mcl and his acl and he was never the same players after that. I’m glad they took that out of the game.
Same thing happened to George Knox when ranch wilder slid into him with his spikes up.
Heck yeah! I wasn’t a Red Sox fan but Pedroia was fantastic. Too bad about that slide from Machado. I wonder if Pedroia could have made the hall of fame otherwise
Was clearly intentional by Machado. People forget that during his time with the O's he was cocky and a diva. Insert your "Fuck Machado"s here
Not at all. What you do have to realize is the relative clout each franchise has. Boston has way more than Baltimore. This means any play made by a Baltimore player on a Boston player (even with intent to injure) is fair game. Obviously not the case if the other way around.
The team you play on matters. I am not a fan of any baseball team, don't even watch the sport, but some unwritten rules are obvious.
@@skippy675What? A team plays in a smaller market so it’s fair game for them to intentionally injure people? Idk where you came up with that. 😂
@@skippy675wtf are you talking about😂
Was?
@cs_derrick13 it is true. Teams like the Yankees and Red socks have more money to spend on the best talent.
For smaller market teams to level the playing field they need to "accidentally" injure some players from the large market teams. It's common sense.
I have a feeling that Pedy will make it to the HOF, possibly through the Veterans Committee. They can’t ignore what he did and the accomplishments he was able to get before the injuries slowed him down
Dude has more full seasons then trut. Not saying he's trout but dude pedroias a 300 career hitter great defense and hit Hella doubles.
Dude deserves to be in the hall of fame
He is nowhere close to a HOFer. Lots of potential HOFer careers get derailed by injury. You don’t get bonus points for getting injured. He had a career ops+ of 113 which is slightly above average. “140 HR, 138 SB, 725 RBI 922 RS” are laughable by HOF standards. Sure he was a good defender but 4GG is not enough to get in off of defense alone. He’d need to be a true defense wizard and have won like eight in a row. 1 MVP and 1 SS. His resume is beyond weak. No second baseman in the last 75 years has made it into the HOF with less than 2000 hits. Pedroia has 1.8k. He was a solid player but he isn’t a HOF. He might get in though bc east coast bias is real but if he played in MIN then we wouldn’t even still be talking about this dude.
Pedy might be the worst nickname you could give someone, I’d rather just say Droia..
@@masonmalaguti3463DP is nowhere near trout lmfao
@@srtsports never said he was. I said he's played more full seasons then trout has
Met him in New York at a modells and he’s the nicest celebrity ever. So down to earth
I’ll never forget going to a Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons (Phillies AAA) game in 2006. First time I ever saw Pedroia. He was so small but he hit a line drive to center field in the 6th inning that was the hardest hit ball of the entire night.
The Sox were absolutely stacked with talent during the Francona years. But Pedy was the absolute heart and soul of that team. He was always reliable and clutch when it counted
dustin pedroia is the ultimate "Chip on the shoulder" Player! I loved him when i watched the red soxs! This guy did everything for ages...He hit for average which imho is very Selflessness. he got the runs to boot with 922 runs and add the fact that this guy has 4 gold gloves a silver slugger AND a DPOY... I think many boston fans would be kinda upset if his number Wasn't retired
I don't think I will ever forget that 2011 season and the disappointment of not making the playoffs that year. That Red Sox team for 2 months of the season (April and September) were terrible. The other 4 months they were the best team in baseball and it wasn't even close. It just felt like if they get in to October baseball, then they were going to win it all.
Pedroia had one of the greatest nicknames in baseball history "The Laser Show"
You say Ken Griffey Jr won Rookie of the Year and MVP in back to back seasons? No he didn't. He didn't even win Rookie of the Year. And he didn't win his MVP until his 8th season or something. 😕
1997, it’s still crazy how he only won one 😒
he meant cal ripken jr
@Brand-ju4jm There we go! Thats who it was.
I didn't even catch that; heard it and thought 'yup'. Touche sir.
That wasn't the only mistake. He said that in 2007 ALCS that Cleveland was looking for first appearance return to WS since 1995. They appeared in 1997 as well.
Ped will always be a legend and he was def bound for HOF. His story should be told to every kid out there who has been told they aren't good enough.
Whenever someone asks the question “who is a player you wish had a longer career in the MLB”, the answer I will always go to is Dustin Pedroia. Great player that injury in 2017 shortened his career
I have 2 go to players myself. Pedroia obviously being one. Bo Jackson being the other. I can't believe everyone forgets Bo!
Good picks for Petey and Bo - us older guys would also add Sandy Koufax to the list. Had to retire at 30 but still made the HOF.
for the Yankee fans who preach that Jeter had good range please look at 1:18 for an example of his range
The Indians lost to the marlins in the World Series in 97
okay?

Really like the type of players you've focused on. Superb content as always! Thanks for the amazing video!
Pedroia was an old-school, pure baseball player. So much heart and hustle.
Im
A Yankees fan i Hate the Red sox, but this is the one player on the red sox i could not hate, i respect Dustin for the way he played the game, a truly great player.
Pedrioa is, and I think will always be one of, if not my favorite player in MLB history. Growing up just outside of Boston in the early 2000's was a treat and as a shorter kid myself playing baseball, as well as other sports at a young age, all I did was aspire to be just like Pedrioa. He played with grit, determination, and wore his heart on his sleeve. HOF career through and through. (Coming from an extremely biased Sox fan)
Many MLB players are not tall. Here's a list of some who I think were shorter than Pedroia, just whomever I can think of at the moment. Includes many top players, HOF, MVPs:
José Altuve
David Eckstein
Hack Wilson
Freddie Patek
Joe Morgan
Phil Rizzuto
Yogi Berra
Wee Willie Keeler
Rabbit Maranville
Billy Hamilton
Bobby Shantz
Joe Sewell
Albie Pearson
George “Snuffy” Stirweiss
You can even throw in current players Ozzie Albies and Mookie Betts into the mix. Fair play to Pedroia, but 5'9 is not nearly an issue compared to being 5'6/5'7
Pee Wee Reese too.
Is been proven time and time again height does not affect talent in most sports but it’s always a topic of the conversation
Nah. There's a bit of selection bias here. The undersized players who make it are generally incredible, because they have to be. They have to work harder on the fundamentals at every level to be competitive. So the ones who make it like Pedey always wow, they're always incredibly disciplined, play great ball, but you don't see the thousands of 5'7 guys who topped out at AA or college because they weren't good enough for the next level. There's a reason the average MLB player is 6'2 but the average man is 5'9.
This is a ball player. Every game he played hard. Rare kind of player these days
Would love to see a video comparing Kinsler, Utley, Cano, and Pedroia. They were/are borderline hof guys, at the same time.
Cano, unfortunately, got busted for PEDs.
I loved Pedey He’s may only be 5’7. But IMO he had 20 ft of heart!!!💪🤟
How he fit a 6'10" heart into a 5'8" body is amazing!
I’m putting this on the package I send to every MLB writer saying why this man deserves to be in the hall
He was my favorite player for a long time. I had his A2000 and though it is retired today I still have it 👍🏼
I feel like Pedroia has been a veteran since day one
That Pujols fella keeps showing up. Must’ve been an ok ball player 😅
Hilarious how Papi didn’t realize his actual name was Dustin. Thought it was Pee Wee. Hahahaha. I’m done😂😂😂
This is the kind of player every fan wants just works hard and balls
Fun story when I was like 6 playing i9 he was coaching his son we got dominated but he was a nice dude
I thought of Freddie Patek. Richie Hebner wasn't very tall either. I remember his baseball card saying he had to work in the off season as a grave digger because his teams owner wasn't paying him enough to cover his bills when he wasn't on the field.
Excellent topic. Very well presented
Without taking anything about what Pedroia did... And hats off for what he accomplished against all odds, imagine how hard it was for Jose Altuve to get where he is at?
trashcans
Great video. Then when i got to see you doing you advertisement I realized you are what, 12 years old. No wonder you did this Pedroia video. Well done!
Jose Altuve just said. ' Hold my beer'.
Hold my buzzer
ABSOLUTELY! ALTUVE DID AND IS STILL DOING BETTER!
Pedey is proof that skill and baseball IQ can get you to the bigs when you don't have above-average physical attributes, you can be a regular sized guy. You just need a ton of fight.
Dustin is a good guy
Dustin Pedroia = Hall of Famer
Yeah……won’t happen!
@@alex11361 first AL MVP at second base since the 50s. He was well on Hall of Fame pace. Arguably a top 20 fielder of all time. Manny Machado screwed him over by being a punk.

Two guys who deserve to be in the Hall are Dustin Pedroia and Don Mattingly. Forget the numbers and look at the dominance..

Forget the numbers? Just overlook numbers? Just give them a participation award?
@@alex11361 You only saw the first half of the sentence. Look at the dominance. They can't be compared to someone like Koufax but I'm applying the same rule. Koufax's counting numbers are not impressive. Look at the dominance. Koufax is easily one of the greatest pitchers of all time. Now, I'm a Sox fan but I grew up in the 80s and you can't tell me that Mattingly isn't one of the greatest 1st baseman of all time. He is. And Pedroia is one of the games greatest ever 2nd basemen.
@@pje8462 His numbers aren’t even close. To compare him to Koufax is comical. I’m a Yankee fan and no I don’t believe Donnie should be in because he doesn’t have the numbers. His are better than Pedroia and still not close.
@@alex11361 Pedroia probably doesn't deserve it but I think Mattingly does. Ask yourself this: who was better Mattingly or Harold Baines? Pedroia or Harold Baines? Mattingly or Scott Rolen? Etc. Any HOF that has Baines in it but not Mattinfgly is a joke. You can make the case for both Mattingly and Pedroia. And of course it's stupid to compare anyone to Koufax. I was just trying to make a point.
As a Yankee fan, i tip my hat to this guy
What could have been if Manny Machado never slid spikes first… Boston will never forget/forgive that
still miss him
I played high school ball with dusty. We called him thumper. He was short but had a hammer on him and 🛠
Me too
wow there are a lot of sports that don't favor us short guys
When talking about how a supposedly too short second baseman outplayed everyone, it wouldn't hurt to mention Joe Morgan.
Imagine telling everyone publicly that you hate where you come from & that your hometown is a shit hole. What a class act.
Dustin Pedroia is and will always be my favorite player ever. In little league, I was the shortest player on the team, and the jerseys got bigger as the numbers increased. My number 15 jersey went down to my ankles. I played second base just like Pedey, and my most prized possession is an autographed ball I spent 3 years worth of Christmas money on. Fuck Manny Machado.
my favourite player of all time
My favorite baseball player OF ALL TIME.
screw machado for ruining perhaps a "long shot" HOF career
barring the fact that even if he had few more healthy seasons, HOF would have been questionable but the way his career ended, there's no shot whatsoever to even discuss the possibilities...
Dustin Pedroia is the 1B to Pete Rose's 1A in terms of pure unadulterated hustle and dawg
Damn those coke bottles on the green monster were the shit ! Bring em back
The Indians lost the World Series in 1997, too.
The Laser Show!
I think he did enough to make the hall. Is his injury any more/less his fault than any other dudes who couldn’t finish their careers and still made it?
He’s not even close!
Outplayed everyone? I want whatever this guy is smoking
It would be comical if he didn't make the hall of fame. 10 years of high end production: Multiple world series, MVP, 4x gold glove winner, several all star selections, rookie of the year and a silver slugger.
What's the point of the hall of fame if you don't get in with all the accolades. The MVP alone showed how good he was.
Cause he was a GOAT MAN
A lot of us Red Sox fans lost respect for Pedroia when he sold out his teammates that we’re trying to get some payback and hit Machado after he shortened his career. He was basically caught on camera saying, “ It’s not my idea to hit you; it’s them !”
I hated these Red Sox (Yankees fan). I hated their players so much and they were so good, Pedroia chief among them. Hard-nosed ballplayer who did it all.
Calling Carl Crawford a star player (for the redsox) lol. That man got the bag and went to sleep, Josh Becket on yhe other hand threw a no hitter after being traded like a boss. Always like him since he was a Marlin.
Dude, do a search on "professional announcing techniques" and "voice-over tips."
Your style and voice make each sentence sound like a P-51 on a strafing run.
I think I'm going to get a standup desk so I can stand while doing the VoiceOver. I feel like when I'm sitting I don't get as much air into my lungs so I think that would help tremendously. Thank you for your feedbacks.
SHORT KINGS ASSEMBLE!!!!

As a Yanks fan, I couldnt stand Pedroia because he was that legit of a player
20:28 i listened to machado say "it WAS intentional" 4 times. Was that just his accent saying it "wasn't" or dis he admit it?
Betts is same height 5foot 9 and several players shorter than that.... i celebrate pedroia great player but tittle is off
Everyone still hates on Altuve. Pedroia was solid but nothing like Altuve
well altuve is a cheater, so there's that.
I live in near boston so lets say im a die bard sox fan. With that said i believe machado did not kntentionally try to hurt pedroia. But and thats a big but, he knew how to slide and wherre is placement should be and what ghe consequences are if he missed. So hes a SOB for sliding in the way he did whether he meant it or not. Likeany lther greats that should be in the HOF like wainwright, rose etc , i feel they will be harsh on pedroia and not let him in even though he should be just based on his first two seasons were he was an absolute monster
That lowell/youkilis 2007 corner squad tho.
In todays game being “no more than a utility man” can get you 20 million a year with an all star appearance
do you guys think D-Ped is one of the greatest red sox players of the current 21st century?
When are people going to realize that being short is actually an advantage in baseball? Lol
It's really only an advantage for strike zone, everything else is harder. It's just harder foe the body to generate power if there's less body to use. There's a reason most of the guys who hit all the homers are tall (Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani)
Manny Machado shouldn't be allowed in the HOF until Pedroia is elected. I swear if he gets in before Pedroia, I will personally make it my mission to go out to boo him at his induction weekend in a Pedroia jersey.
Danm manny machado is a dirty player 🤦🏻♂️
That doesn't look like Jose Altuve
Then the diva Machado came and derailed Pedroias career(essentially).

God the nostalgia. 07? I was… 14/15. Pedroia is one of those guys that could and couldn’t get into the hall of fame. Like his numbers are good enough, but just not GOOD ENOUGH.

Even the objective men have a favorite team; being that my favorite team is Boston, I had the opportunity to watch Pedroia’s career closely. He was what you call a FIELD leader, his play could inspire the worst of players. However, he was NOT a clubhouse guy. Very arrogant man and it’s the reason why unlike Middlebrooks, Youkilis, Papelbon, and other former players, he has NOT been contracted to fill neither an analyst position nor a coaching job.
You're saying Pap isn't arrogant but Pedy is? After he was a guest coach in spring training this year he said that he'd probably coach for the sox in the future but he's focusing on his kids right now

I will never forgive manny machado
I get 5’9 isn’t tall. It isn’t short by baseball standards. There are tons of dudes under 5’10 playing right now some at a high level also. Altuve is 5’6 and albies is 5’8 (bit of a down year but has been a stud). Heck, mookie Betts is only 5’9. The league is flooded with guys his height or shorter. Dustin was a great player but he wasn’t even the greater short player to exceed at his position. That would be Joe Morgan who was only 5’7. I get you want to make a video about a short king but calling him the shortest player Jon baseball is extremely disingenuous.
Disrespecting the Angels like that was totally low class. 👎
You made him into dustin gorilla?
