Yeah, this seems to come up every other video now. He REALLY needs to add an asterisk tier for when completing the game requires doing one ungodly frustrating task. I don't think anyone else thinks he needs to be as "complete" as he takes it. Dodging Chickens in Zelda for 20 hours, finding 999 koroks for a piece of poop, playing game on one hit death Nightmare modes (like this or Horizon Zero Dawn) , any RPG that requires you beat the game multiple times for single items (Persona 5 or the Tales games...) beating a game identically dozens of times (Tony Hawk)... If he's ENJOYING the challenge and pushing himself its one thing but he REALLY needs to set a new tier. "Platinum completion" or "what the game devs reasonably expected out of you" should count as "complete it". Then above that there should be an "Obsessive completion tier" where he just goes "Yeah, I tried doing this bit for X hours. It was frustrating and unfun, and there's no reward for it, but if you want to attempt it, you do you."

I’m so glad you mentioned how tough games like these can be. I don’t have the time in my life to attempt playing everything on Nightmare Mode. But I love seeing you kick butt all through those. More power to you, Completionist!
Those were all part of the backer rewards that eventually got leaked/released. At best, you get unique appearance in a weapon or armour, but only a +5 to attack or defence.
I got to play this as part of my Game Pass subscription, and I was anticipating it since the kickstarter and playing Curse of the Moon. It's so good I bought it after finishing Galleon Minerva, even though I could continue playing it via the subscription. I just wanted to support it, it's that good.
I started gaming in year 2000 with my Gameboy Color and it still holds a deep place in my heart. It pains me to see many game titles who finished or get cancelled. Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Metal Gear, Prince of Persia, Uncharted, Drakengard, Heavenly Sword, Dark Souls , Castlevania, etc. etc. etc. Those times were the greatest and im glad that i was born in that generation.
I'm just extremely surprised this game went under the radar of most game reviewers and other awards when it initially came out. I'm so glad you completed it finally! Zangetsu is indeed a true nightmare in nightmare mode... You did an awesome job! Thank you so much!
I'm so glad this game turned out as good as it did. I rarely platinum a game, but I did it with Bloodstained. Fortunately a Nightmare Zangetsu playthrough is not required. Regarding the anachronisms, like the train and electric guitar: assuming Gebel's castle is similar to a typical Dracula castle from the CV series, I always figured it's in a constant state of physical and temporal flux. Drac's castles were always changing from game to game, and included a number of elements that don't fit with the time they're set in. Bloodstained touches on that with the really out-of-place Egyptian area. The castle draws things from the past and future and combines them in one unsettling amalgam.
"Next, he's gonna use 'alchemy' to clean the dishes by loading up the dishwasher and adding soap!" NGL, that one cracked me up! Keep up the good work boys!
Just a tip for those that are starting this game for the first time or are early in. Keep luck maxed. It will increase drop rate and criticals which will go a long way. That's why by the time I reached the last fight, I had very little collecting or gathering left to do. Also, max those augment shards as soon as possible. Again luck, but there's also one for shard drops and money drops. Lastly, a good technique is to max the alchemy shard. It'll give a chance (like 1 in 3~5) in crafting more than one (2~5) with the same amount of ingredients. Which you can then desynth into the original ingredients. So... basically, it's item duping. Goes a long way in helping you get hard to farm for items like gold (the material, not the currency).
Don't forget Toru Hagihara who was the director for Rondo of Blood and co-director of SOTN. Pure Igavanias have rather different vibe than those two with Hagihara's handprint.
I just really love this game. There is so much to do, I would never encourage anyone to complete it in the manner to which you need to for youtube. This is a game that encourages time and nurturing while in the same respect paving a new type of difficulty to match that of the originals. It's just amazing that Iga and co. Were able to bring this much to the plate despite the issues and delays!
OD having an optional boss fight near the end is a neat detail I never knew about. Reminds me a little of how in Castlevania 64 if you buy too much stuff from the demon merchant he shows up before the Drac fight to try to claim your soul. Not sure if that's an intentional callback, but fun to see the similarity.
I'm glad Igarashi has never been afraid to show his influences! For instance, he's referenced Jojo's as far back as aria of sorrow where one of the souls just gives you a stand.
In Castlevania Portrait of Ruin, the protagonists also strike a pose when you hold up for an extended period of time, Jonathan's looking more akin to a JoJo pose. Unfortunately I don't believe any of the other Igavania games I played had any such references, Aria and Dawn of Sorrow didn't have anything obvious and Order of Ecclesia mapped the Up button to absorb Glyphs. But both PoR and this game have to be proof enough of the JoJo references.
Hey Jirard since the new Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake has been announced, it might be a good time to complete Prince of Persia Warrior Within ;););) The game has some completion bonuses and collectibles (definitely more than Sands of Time) plus it can be completed in 20 hours.

So glad I got my copy signed by David Hayner in a con a year and while I am still mad that my PS4 crashed, meaning I had to replay all of my games again, including Bloodstained, at least I know how to get the true ending on this new run and plus it gives me another excuse to play the game again.
Lol i stopped watching this video to avoid spoilers but just came back after 'finishing' the game. I can't believe what you have to go through to 'complete' this game! I am still going for all achievements so long as I don't find out i need to do those perfect boss runs or something.. Anyway great vid and well done, truly impressive!
That reminds me of the old axe armor mode in Castlevania - Symphony of the Night. If you type "AXEARMOR" when starting a new game you get an old axe armor item in your inventory that upon equipping turns you into an old axe armor. It only works after you already beat the game with the good ending, though. This mode also made a comeback in Castlevania - Portrait of Ruin in the form of a separate playable character that you can play as after finishing the game.
@@cloroxhammer3289 Yep, it's a direct reference to that :) In fact in SotN, you can also earn that Axe Lord Armor as an item during a normal playthrough. It's a rare drop from the spike balls attached to the pillar heads on the staircase in the royal castle. If you kill the pillar head first, the spike ball gains invulnerability and tumbles down the stairs. But if you don't kill the pillar head, the spike ball is destructable, and has a rare chance of dropping the Axe Lord Armor. It is also an item that can drop from the Master Librarian when using the Gravity Boots under his chair.
@@oromain Yeah, it's a really neat item. Too bad you can't save or interact with anything while wearing it. You also have to switch it out everytime you come across platforming obstacles so you might as well not even bother using it anywhere. I think it was the best in Castlevania - Portrait of Ruin. Since it's a separate character that you can play as, it has gained a few unique moves of it's own and is able to traverse the castle with ease.
@@cloroxhammer3289 Yeah that was always disappointing about the SotN version. Bloodstained at least has gear loadouts you can easily swap between, and the Shovel Armor has more mobility than ol' Axe Armor did, though still not enough to fully explore the whole castle I don't think. I guess that depends if he can still use shards, I don't remember but I doubt it since it'd require animating him to do them. I wanna go back and see again and if he can I want to do a Shovel Armor run ...
this is my 4th favorite game my top five in order are 1) Super Metroid 2) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 3) Metroid Dread 4) Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night 5) Dark Souls if you have somehow not given this game a chance and are a metroidvania fan take it from me, someone who practically only plays metroidvanias, that this game is good and needs more eyes on it, of the 5 games on my list it's easily the least popular
One game I would buy the second it came out if someone made it, is Super Castlevania 4 with modern graphics. The controls and gameplay is already 100% perfect in the original, and the graphics are amazing for its time, but a full on high res version would be so cool! Also maybe skip the framerate slowdown when there is a lot happening on the screen xD

How to make Castelvania even better? use a sexy lady character as the protagonist instead of a boring random guy, fan service pays off, apparently, still a great game. Also that Jirard lady at the end was disturbing as hell.
Boring random guy? Female protagonists in Castlevania games are the most boring to me. Shanoa was probably the best, but for me It's much more fun to play as a Belmont or someone like Soma or Alucard.

my sister is a certified cook and one of the things they told her in class is that cooking is basically alchemy, and technically by definition and action it is - Alchemy: a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination. getting ingredients to combine and transform them into a single dish, by changing the method and ingredients you get different results, remove the word magic and yeah kinda like alchemy

My favorite thing in this game is if you unlock the Chisel Barrage shard from the Carpenter room and fully level it up, then equip Gebel’s Glasses which give you unlimited MP, it is by far one of the most broken abilities in the game.
Nice. I got the platinum trophy a month after release, and recently returned to the game and take on the Randomized mode. Just a simple one time playthrough will still get your moneys worth at the base price, or you can play it again with any of it's added modes. I think I have at least 5 randomised starts just to see what kind of crazy, broken drops it would give me. One time I got Zangetsu's sword in a chest on the opening boat level.
started 2 randoms myself. Well 4 because i technically got softlocked in 2. 1 because the boat gave me nothing but food, armor, and a really weak attack shard. So i was trying to beat the boss with chip damage. 2nd got good stuff then got screwed at the horseman because i didn't have craftworks to clear the path, tried to bypass with dimension shift and go around but i also didn't have double jump sooooo, yeah. Still love the randomizer mode, honestly playing that more than the straight run.
Let's also point out two things: there is a protonjon item in this too obtain on save file name. And two, Iga redid the art after fan backlash. He was set back, but pushed forward

I enjoy completing games myself but, there's only so far I'm willing to go/so much time I'm willing to invest before I get inevitably side tracked by one of the other dozen games on my backlog. Plus, there's other responsibilities I have to tend to now. Not like it was back when I was 15-16 and had the time to get stupid good at GH.
I’m so glad I donated to this game. It was in my top ten of 2019.
Which version did you get. Both my roommates got the $500 one. They are parts of videogame history now
Richard M what comes with the $500 edition?
They get their name in the credits, and some really cool merch. I'm not sure what else
I too, am happy you donated to this game.
I'm really disappointed in myself for not donating to this game when I could. It's still one of my top tens lol
When Jirard said "I could be your father" my heart skipped a beat.
Well your mom did get around so it's always possible.
For someone like me to enjoy this game without having played any past Castlevania or having watch the Jojo anime or getting any of the Easter Eggs...
That shows how good of a game this is on its own.
Same
Been two years, played any old school Castlevania yet?
Dude I'm so proud to have been apart of that kickstarter campaign that Fangamer ran, I love those nerds over at Fangamer!!
Their recent Banjo-Kazooie merch has been amazing I wish I could have them all!! (Lol I may actually buy them all)
I’m so glad you mentioned how tough games like these can be. I don’t have the time in my life to attempt playing everything on Nightmare Mode. But I love seeing you kick butt all through those. More power to you, Completionist!
Also the fact that's called STAND still is just too funny. xD
Kinda surprised you didn't mention the cheat codes that give you unique headgear or weapons.
Real heroes like you are why we get games like Bloodstained RotN
"He was told there was no future, but he knew they were wrong."
I approve of your profile picture.
I appreciate you playing the DKC3 Treetop Tumble Mix during the "Rewards" segment. That's one of my favorite VGM fusions. It's really good.
As a Platinum trophy holder for this amazing game my rating is very much "COMPLETE IT except Nightmare with Zangetsu" because fuck that shit.
The stone mask, ZA WORLDO!? OH I so need to play this.
Nux, is that you?
@@4ncientGu150 Nani?
It also has Joseph's hyperbreather mask from Battle Tendency. It's just full of the Jojo's, I swear.
*Za Warudo
is that a jojo reference😂😂😂 nah he aint be serious because he said ZA WORLDO and not the world
I just want to say that the fact a randomizer mode was added to Bloodstained is something I will always be super happy about.
Miriam is a blue mage.
Blew your mind didn't i?
Good to see you! I listen/watch your Curse of the Moon 2 ost videos!
"Next, he's gonna use 'alchemy' to clean the dishes by loading up the dishwasher and adding soap!" NGL, that one cracked me up! Keep up the good work boys!
my therapist: "Jirard with titties isn't real. He can't hurt you."
The endcard of this video:
Definitely one of my favorite games. I love it so much.
It’s a great mixture of Symphony of the Night and I LOVE it!
Koji Igarashi, a legend, made another legendary game.
I finished the game today and It gave me a feeling that I had lost for a long time.....
I also steamrolled the end game with a purple light saber and a lot of pizza .
Jirard: doesn't blink
Me: say sike right now
I'm glad Igarashi has never been afraid to show his influences! For instance, he's referenced Jojo's as far back as aria of sorrow where one of the souls just gives you a stand.
Awesome I loved this game glad your giving it some love, I had a blast 100 percenting this game lol
This game is great, but the madness of Completion is well maddening.
Yes, some drops are lunatic to farm.
Is it just me or am I the only one who’s always excited to see what misc. items are on the shelf behind him? Keep up the awesome work!
Hey Jirard since the new Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake has been announced, it might be a good time to complete Prince of Persia Warrior Within ;););) The game has some completion bonuses and collectibles (definitely more than Sands of Time) plus it can be completed in 20 hours.
Yes that trophy where you finish it without gameover was fun...
(half kidding aside I would love to see Warrior Within completionist episode though)
...have you guys heard the news? Indefinite hold?
@@Descro382 Yeah but they said they were gonna release it in 2022
@@Rifat.Rafael.Birmizrahi oh they confirmed that? Hell yeah
Hi Jirard! Member of the Operation: Akumajo staff here. I'm glad to see you enjoyed the Simon Belmont reference! Hopefully you also enjoyed the Dominus sword which is a reference to the war of 1999!
I just started playing this game this week and I LOVE IT. WOW! it's so awesome. So glad they are making a sequel.
i got platinum on ps4 and i couldnt and wouldnt waste time fighting all bosses with no hits😳cool they making a new one,its a cool lookin game, but ps4 has these hitches in game and that loading between areas are slow
The completion is absolutely crushing it these days. Keep up the great work. Your channel will always be relevant. Just keep making videos :)
YES! I've been waiting for this!
Me and my friends stated that this game was one of the few games to actually do really well on Kickstarter and to this day, that point still stands. So glad I got my copy signed by David Hayner in a con a year and while I am still mad that my PS4 crashed, meaning I had to replay all of my games again, including Bloodstained, at least I know how to get the true ending on this new run and plus it gives me another excuse to play the game again.
I've actually never heard of this before. Thanks for the video.
j a it is such a good game
Lol i stopped watching this video to avoid spoilers but just came back after 'finishing' the game. I can't believe what you have to go through to 'complete' this game! I am still going for all achievements so long as I don't find out i need to do those perfect boss runs or something..
Anyway great vid and well done, truly impressive!
I was today years old when I realised I'd completed a game before Jirard.
It would be cool if Soma Cruz was a optional Boss
The Shovel Armor that the Shovel Armor drops lets you play as a Shovel Armor yourself~
Don't forget to equip your shovel to go along with it.
I wanna go back and see again and if he can I want to do a Shovel Armor run ...
this is my 4th favorite game
my top five in order are
1) Super Metroid
2) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
3) Metroid Dread
4) Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
5) Dark Souls
if you have somehow not given this game a chance and are a metroidvania fan take it from me, someone who practically only plays metroidvanias, that this game is good and needs more eyes on it, of the 5 games on my list it's easily the least popular
My favorite game of 2019. Absolutely love it and Miriam too
Bruh just wanted to say that the designer who drew the indieland 2020 art did an amazing job holy shit
Hmm. That stuff about Dio/ OD is cool, but we cant leave out ODs connection to Alucard. 😏
Edit: Soon as I posted, you said it! Well played, sir 😊
They ripped off devil May Cry
Time stopping ability
Pretty sure Jojo us older than DMC
Also its not like time stop was an inconceivable and trademarked idea
I genuinely wasn't expecting this game to be on the channel.
Keep up the good work!!!
Could not agree more Jirard, this is a good game and I have finished it twice, but all the extra stuff is not worth of the time and effort.
Play astral chain! I think you’d love and there’s so much to complete!
I mean, the only PlatinumGame he's touched is Bayonetta. And, developed by them alone, there are at least...three..games that absolutely should be higher on the docket: Vanquish, Bayonetta 2 and Nier: Automata.
(6:20): " killed a 'demond'... " lol
Edit: not making fun, the amount of VO that Jirard does without making any mistakes is impressive, and he's awesome! Good work at usual, dude!
How to make Castelvania even better? use a sexy lady character as the protagonist instead of a boring random guy, fan service pays off, apparently, still a great game.
Also that Jirard lady at the end was disturbing as hell.
"Boring random guy"
Alucard would like a word with you
Boring random guy? Female protagonists in Castlevania games are the most boring to me. Shanoa was probably the best, but for me It's much more fun to play as a Belmont or someone like Soma or Alucard.
I absolutely loved my playthrough of the game, it was fun getting crazy strong and getting 100% even the bosses that gave me a hard time just got me to keep trying until I beat them. The satisfaction and perseverance was something that I haven't had in many games.
Me: Oh this game looks pretty cool, I might get it.
The Completionist: It has Jojo references.
Me: i'Ll TaKe YoUr EnTiRe StOcK!
WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY with us BRUZZAH!!!
Avoid the Switch version like the plague
Conway Fiddy Didn’t that version get patched over time?
@@metal_gear_rayquaza8914 it appears functionally similar. Frame rate not as consistent although the game can randomly drop on all versions. missing a few more subtle lighting/reflection effects but they improved the bumpmaps on switch so less blurry than before. As I understand it still not quite as sharp visually as other versions. Input lag seems to be fixed
my sister is a certified cook and one of the things they told her in class is that cooking is basically alchemy, and technically by definition and action it is
- Alchemy: a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.
getting ingredients to combine and transform them into a single dish, by changing the method and ingredients you get different results, remove the word magic and yeah kinda like alchemy
Wow, I got here, fast. Love the stuff Jarard keep up the good work.
Helped back this game back in the day and got lucky to get my name in the credits the games story is interesting and satisfying a good successor to castlevania and im super glad you completed this one!
and a decade if not 2 later, symphony of the night still looked, played, sounded and was overall still way better lol
In all fairness, that's true of most games in the genre.
I love symphony of the night but...
This game has a fuck ton of combat options, way more then SOTN and the musical quality is fantastic, its just down to whether you like the songs better in SOTN or this game.
@@angelpacheco1608 doubt i could ever like any game over an other based on the music. thats like me liking 1 music cd over the other because 1 has better album cover art lmao
but dance of pales is 1 of my favorite songs of all time, not just from a games
i dont remember any music from bloodstained, not saying it was bad, just saying i dont remember and even if it was great, it wouldnt make me like the game over sotn
@@THaB4DGuY Yeah the music in both games is really good. But that's my point though.
The gameplay is better in Bloodstained (because they have had years of ideas to add onto SOTN's gameplay) that comparing both the games comes down to something as subjective as music.
SOTN has nostalgia and legacy, but if someone never played either - I wouldn't be surprised if they end up liking Bloodstained more because of all the gameplay additions over SOTN.
@@angelpacheco1608 thats what i thought i was going to think, but bloodstained had bad choppy framefrate, and between the graphics/map design, there was nothing special about it to me and after i beat it, never wanted to play it ever again, whereas i beat sotn multiple times from ps1 days and even beat it again on xbox1 and ps4
Thank you! This is the only game I've ever completed. I've been waiting for this episode since then!
This game is perfect
No
My favorite thing in this game is if you unlock the Chisel Barrage shard from the Carpenter room and fully level it up, then equip Gebel’s Glasses which give you unlimited MP, it is by far one of the most broken abilities in the game.
Funny Im actually trying to complete this game right now I only need to get the weapons armor and helmet parts
Edit.
Just completed the game 100%
Nice. I got the platinum trophy a month after release, and recently returned to the game and take on the Randomized mode.
And got stuck 9 hours in, without the ability to swim, but Teleporting and high jump like no tomorrow.
I might just give up on the run as only one enemy is left to get a shard from and it's the 8-bit boss. But my armor is not good enough.
Bloodstained was such a lovely experience, so glad to see you covering it
This intro did not age well
How so?
Yeah, I’m wondering that too.
This game was a crazy rollercoaster. I cried during the sad parts, and I legit screamed when that monster appeared on the train. I couldn't complete it, but I never stopped having fun, even after I beat it.
I tried to watch this in late 2023 and was getting nostalgic until you brought up IndieLand. Sigh. Do better man.
I still wait for the day we get to know what the Child of Light teaser was in the release trailer of Bloodstained :P
Yikes this aged poorly
So glad you made an episode for this dad! PLEASE TELL ME YOU WILL DO ONE FOR BOTH CURSE OF THE MOONS
I 100%'d this game down to getting every medal (you get medals for beating bosses without taking any damage) on nightmare difficulty on both my PC and PlayStation and I am so happy that jirard has covered it! i just found this video and it makes me so happy to see so many other people appreciating this wonderful game.
fellow army of the night here, this was such a fun game to play and im really looking forward to seeing what iga and team can pull off now that they have the tools
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! This is one I completed, now I can share this one with you. FINALLY 😭
Yeah some people might've had some bugs and glitches on release, but beyond that is such a well crafted, beautifully soundtracked game!
Yo this is so cool! We have the same profile. I just looked up gaming on google and took this. Sorry if you made this pfp but I just think it’s halarious that I’m using yours and just figured out who you were
Shout out to that sweet Dustforce OST at the beginning, one of the best platformer soundtracks to chill to!
16:26 that's one of the things I love about this game; it's a good value for any level of devotion.
Heh what a bodacious video keep up the good work. Though I do remember that there some interesting trivia facts: 1. Konami never created those bad pachinko machines based off of Castlevania, Ganbare Goemon, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear. A pachinko company asked Konami for permission to create pachinko games of those franchises. 2. Supposedly the backers who paid for the Vita ports got refunded. It was a shame that the Vita port was cancelled. A bloody shame
I'm surprised I didn't see Jirard do the max MP regeneration dash shard farming trick in this at all. That made end game farming kinda fun.
if anybody is wondering. the music playing behind jirard while he was talking about indieland is from The game Dustforce. Lifeformed created an abololutely amazing soundrack
I always heard about The Completionist and saw a random recommendation when I was looking for something else. Finally started with this episode, and it's great! Definitely going to check out more channel. I also love how you beep out the f words to comical effect.
[Jirard voice] Yes!
