I haven't seen this movie in quite a while, but I will always remember that it has the most breathtaking action finale in cinema.

Stunning Visuals, a simplistic story that, in of itself, would fit within the anime it's based off of, VERY accurate depictions of the vehicles from the anime (with some being a bit more drastically changed than others, which makes sense and looks good)

“There is an underlying seriousness to the silliness of this world.”
Very well put. Everything in the movie takes itself seriously. The style is over the top, fitting the cartoonish origin of the characters. It’s the best adaptation to date, capturing the mood of everything perfectly. But the core is such a solid, serious, heartfelt plot that nothing can break it. Not even the crazy visuals and high energy. It’s so. So good.

Those who did not bother to watch/experience Speed Racer 🏎💨🏁 didn't deserve to. Every single shot in that film perfectly captured the exhilaration of the TV 📺 show. The film's visuals delivered as much of story as the dialog. I was enamored by the original anime series when it aired in the early 1970s. There was no Speed Racer merchandise in stores back then so my dad bought me a white toy car and painted it to resemble the Mach 5! My childhood was full of wonder & amazement partially BECAUSE of shows like Speed Racer (and Star Blazers)! 😁♥️🌹

This quote of yours is probably why I love this movie so much. I remember watching the american reboot in early 2000, and really enjoying it. The parody from Dexter's lab taught me everything id ever need to know about the show itself. When the movie came out? and it was the W sisters? I felt they did it justice. What Mr.Royalton said about racing is kinda of true. The sport is not based on the best racer but is about how are afford to compete in it. Which is the ugly but truthful part about car racing . I am 21 years old, I started Karting that the age of 16. I am trying to begin by junior career , it's not because am not good but I cannot afford it. I am a middle class Nigeria. ( or lower middle class in USA during to my country's exchange rate). I might be able to advance my career but thanks to sim racing . It has helped me to improve in my racing and give me a golden opportunity to get a car racing seat.

One of my favorite aspects of this movie you mentioned was how the progression of time worked. Timeskips didn't feel like like timeskips, they felt like extremely satisfying montages making for seamless transitions through disconnected events in the story.
I really love this movie. The scene where Speed restarts his engine during the Grand Prix is just the perfect chill-inducing climax of the story.

I know two younger minds this may not seem like a problem, or to people who live outside of america, but America has an extremely long and disturbing history of hatred towards Japan, ever since world war ii. And most western media, excluding films that came out in the 2010s, or at least past 2015,Japanese characters are usually side characters, or have some sort of villainous intent. Either the main character is for example some spy that defeated some Yakuza, the bad guy happens to be japanese, and everybody else is american, and specifically no other nationality besides american. I know for some gen z and a lot of Jen alpha, this may be really surprising, especially with films coming out such as Big hero 6, but before that, it was normal and American culture unfortunately, to make fun of japan, simply for what it is. Lots of stereotypes have run rampant about Japanese culture ever since the 1940s, and unfortunately due to that, for decades, Japan has been portrayed in a very bad light. this came out in 2008, still when most movies were created by boomers, who likely were influenced by their parents who watch the propaganda films of the '40s, and believe them, and then passed down this information, so This is why I'm a bit sensitive to the fact that they decided to make the villain japanese. Possibly my discomfort is outdated, and I hope it is. I hope we now live in a world our time period where the ethnicity of a villain doesn't really matter, because there's no negative ties to that ethnicity.

I haven't seen this movie since I saw it in theaters! You popped up in my recommended and I almost wept while listening I din't know people liked this movie since I've only heard hate about it. Also going up against Iron Man 1 in Box Office didn't help it's standing either xD

Waaaaaaaaaitt, if Speed Racer is an Anime.. and this movie is an adoption of the Anime.. and the movie is good... Wouldn't that mean there was an actual good anime adaptation??

I managed to watch like one or two episodes of this series when I was a kid, but I just wasn't old enough for it to hold my interests. It never left my memory, though, lol!
I've heard about how wild a ride this movie is (g'snort). Maybe someday I'll take a peek at it. I bet it's an amazing watch on the big screen.

i felt that the dub speed up the voice in order to match the animation of the lips, i cant remember where but there was this interview with Funimation, i know its a different dub company, in the interview they said it was hard to slow down the animation and costly. this may be why some of there show are remember better.
This movie was great the Color the plot the race themselves where fun too. When someone at work started to talk about how great Ready Player One with its art it race, and i am like speed racer did it and it was better, i think Ready Player one was boring and Speed Racer was better, and i ask them why they did not see Speed Racer they respond " that its a kids movie" and i say so was Ready Player One. i think its the marketing team failure, also this movie also came where there was still huge stigma for kids movie. Even at work at the time many people said Ironman is a kid movie. the movies are for 13+ so its a kid movie that adults can enjoy. i think its a problem that many people don't think they will enjoy a movie that has a 13+ but avenger endgame is one of this movie, so maybe this movie was just to early

The dub thing makes sense! I'm aware of at least 2 different english dubs done for the anime, I think it's funny how they both sound super fast! It's a shame so many people missed out on this movie thinking it was only for kids... especially considering how the movie itself is 2h long, and I did not have that kind of patience as a kid

i acctually never seen this video nor the anime
my first contact w/ the speedracer franchise were lego sets based on this movie, which were really weird for me as a kid, cause i never heard of it anywhere
was the movie popular really? i only see people talking about the anime memes & have only seen those
guess i need to check this movie out
i guess i kinda spoiled myself here, but it seems like it has quite a few adult themes
    idk
