I own this stove and the biggest issue is the lack of a heating grate. Basically you have no airflow below your fuel, causing you have to babysit the stove much more than you'd have to with a grate. I bought a grate that fits inside from a third party and now I can just load it and it'll burn for an hour unattended.
@@robpelton - Where did you get your grate? I've been wanting one since I bought my stove. I'd like a titanium grate but steel would work. It needs to be heavy to support almost twice the weight of a normal stoves wood load because it's a TBrick Max.
The nice thing is once you get a couple burns in on your rolled pipe, it’s way easier to do in the field without having to start at a diagonal. I’ve also found that putting 2-3 rings on at once when you go to put the first ring on makes it easier to slide them up quickly to keep the roll. Good stuff Rob!
Thanks for this video! This stove looks soooo much better than my seek outside. That stove used threaded rods with wing nuts to hold everything together and just so many issues with the stove pipe collar and spark screen and stove wall warpage. I like the how these have the draft holes in the door so it stays above the ash. You’ll have to clean these out daily no matter what but at least this will provide oxygen for the entire day! As far as the stove pipe initial burn setup here’s what I did: Get a 10’ pvc pipe smaller than the ring diameter and duct tape a couple strips to it at the ends, leave a little hanging out either end so you can pull it off once it’s rolled. Then laying it on the hard flat ground you roll the sheet around the pipe and once it’s rolled you hold it with one hand and place small pieces of duct tape (prepped ahead) along the length of the outer edge. Once it’s taped you can work the rings on some from each end. Once you have the rings evenly spaced you pull off all the tape go burn it in and you’ll never have to worry about it again. Also, before I pack the stove away I usually run a very hot burn and it cleans out most of the creosote buildup and it typically just flakes off the pipe when you roll it up for storage. It’s still a mess. When you go to use the pipe next time it rolls into it burned in position very easy. Don’t worry about wrinkles it’s just how it is and doesn’t hurt the pipe. Always use gloves! Especially when placing the rings.
Burn in both ends by swapping top to bottom. That way it will be really easy to roll the next time. It's pretty easy to roll the stove pipe after that.
I used a WD-40 can to slowly roll the titanium pipe and gradually with the help of those steel rings I managed to put the dame pipe together.. It is indeed a tedious process!

Can't say enough about Danchel Outdoors customer service. I ordered one a few years ago and had a really bad problem with smoke leaking out of the stove. I contacted the company and they immediately refunded me the full purchase price without question. They asked if I'd work with them to identify the problems with the stove - which I was happy to do and they sent me a second similar folding titanium stove at no cost and asked me to use it and let them know what I thought of it. Far exceeded any expectation I had. Obviously, I buy Danchel gear whenever possible. And in my opinion, the pool noodle thing works much better than trying to roll it up without one.
I bought a Vevor, double wall stove and a grate, the top plate which come off for cooking is a solid aluminum plate and doesn’t warp. The Flue breaks down into 9 sections, and it’s all 304 Stainless steel 3mm plate.

@@wanderingheathen I bought titanium sections, but the steel versions fit the same. The pipe just slides right over the flu section. I don’t have a video on it. Perhaps I should!
Good quality dedicated wood burners have no grate, as wood burns best on it's own ash. Grates are actually for other types of solid fuel, including coal. Much depends on the species & drynessof the fuel too.

This is a very good video, my one comment is as follows. Perhaps a couple of hose clamps might be helpful, I dont know. I have always thought that hot tents were dangerous. I'm comming around though.
I have mastered the art of pipe rolling since this video. Haha. Once the stovepipe is burned, it retains memory and rolls right up. It’s pretty slick. I can see the value of a hose clamp, but as of now, not needed for me at least. These hot tents have their hazards. There’s no denying that, but stay organized and aware, and man are they cool and fun. Thanks for watching!
Dude, i just had to subscribe after that pipe roll debacle - LOL! Nice review, and I think you've convinced me on this brand. And, I think you should get an affiliate kickback from these guys. I am an up-north guy myself - maybe I'll see you on the trail sometime. GB
I have really grown to love winter camping. Although I like a good winter hammock hang, these hot tents are just awesome. A warm & cozy awesome. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your Demos! I wonder if you could carry the rolled stovepipe wrapped around a walking stick made from a length of wooden Closet pole, bound with cordage, and sturdy rubber bands. Sounds like a serious challenge dealing with the thin metal in ANY SORT of Breeze.
I don’t see why you couldn’t wrap the pipe around a walking stick. Regarding the wind, the stove jack and the guy line attachments get it very stable. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I haven't tried to roll and burn my pipe yet, but I think I'm definitely going to try the 2 pool noodles taped together and have a second pair of hands to help roll the whole length all at once.
Rob about ready to lose his shit... one of my favorite things to watch. :-) How significant is the heat retention in steal? Is it worth the weight? Curious of how durable all the little wings for holding it together will be.
I’m also curious on the longevity. We’ll see! The heat retention of steel is much better. Good for keeping your tent warm. Not great for needing the stove to cool off so you can pack up. Dude. I was close to just throwing everything kicking it… Lol
That stove pipe assembling looks like a huge pain. I probably would blow a gasket. I think putting that stove pipe together at home and burning it in first before hitting the trail looks to be a must do thing. How about an outtakes video of the parts you cut out on this video? The stove does look like a great value. Good video.
Ha! The out-takes would be me just say the F word a lot. I think you are right though. Do the pre-burn at home and get that stove pipe burned in. If I was setting this up for the first time on a trip, I’d be having a rough time… Thanks for watching!
Hi Charlene! You can purchase a fixed chimney. It comes in several segments. I actually ended up picking one up from Pomoly. It’s so much more convenient to put up, but far less packable. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Great review Rob! Now that you have that pipe burned in it's a breeze next time. I like that fold down design! My luxe 3w is pretty difficult to set up after it's all warped. Having the option to backpack in the stove is a game changer! I think you'll be happy with that. ✌️
Dude, you need to do some practice rolls with a joint then picture the chimney as a giant joint. I’m sure success will follow. 😁 I’m just talking out of my ass. I’m not a professional joint roller but I’m sure some seasoned rollers can chime in.
I have a Tegimen hot tent. The top of the tent is 75 inches high, How high should the chimney extend above the peak of the roof? The titanium stove pipe that came with my stove Pomoly stove is 119 long. With the spark arrestor at the top, it's stands 143 inches tall! How much should I cut off, and what should I do with the piece that I cut off?
Oh wow. That’s a lot of pipe! Haha. I like the chimney to extend at 16”-24” out the top. Bent away from the tent would be best. This will help avoid spark burn holes. Either way, great tent and just start experimenting. You will find what works for ya. Thanks for watching! Cheers.
Hey Rob where did you get those bags that are individual for the flu and scraper and then the separate smaller one for the stove? The stuff they show on Amazon is that bigger flat Square bag that houses the flu and the stove inside of it all in one. I like the bags you have way better cuz it's easier to pack cuz they're smaller
Very cool chimney stack. But….instead of unfurling the metal to straight and then roll to create the tube, why not just reach in the middle of the folded storage tube and just telescope it out? Leave a ring or two on the outside band and as you turn to telescope it out, stretch as it lengthens. The tension tendency to unfurl will be restrained by the twist (like a cardboard paper towel tube) and the rings. I don’t have a stovepipe like that so I can’t speak from experience, but if a straight rolled tube was the best way to do it, then they’d use that method for toilet paper and towel tubes. 🤔🤷♂️? Feedback?
I bicycle pack and use a trailer with my stove .. it's not foldable and if it was there wouldn't be enough time to put it together in the freezing cold as a cyclists because setup time is critical when your soaked from sweating and yes changing clothing is a option . I consider the calapsable stoves as a three season depending on the cold weather . A little sandpaper on the fixed pipe bevel after you break them down will remove the creosote buildup and stop the pipes from fusing. Never burn waxed fire logs in your stoves because even your spark arrestor will cake up as well as your damper .Stuffing wood in the stove after your first burn , wear gloves because a cold hand doesn't feel the burns immediately until they warm up . Have a look at my short video and good job on your video .
Not sure why there is not a collapsable, telescoping (progressively smaller sections that nest into each other for storage) stovepipe option available for these smaller stoves - I believe 2.25" is standard OD for most of these. I have spent way too much time searching! I am actually thinking about trying to design and create one. Maybe there is a business idea there?
... this telescoping design is available at Winnerwell ( at least it used to be) ,, but also pipes in sections that fit together as well as 45 and 90 degree bends ... not sure if size is the same though ..
I do find the roll up pipe to be sufficient once it has been burned. Regarding a dirty pipe, I haven’t had much of an issue. I try to burn good dry wood. So, any buildup is minimal. Thanks for watching!
Hey Rob, Thanks for the awesome video and your efforts. Great tips about the stove pipe and just a great informative review all around. Just bought one of these and am going to burn it in this weekend.
I tried the pool noddle to roll it up. I asked my wife to come help me out lol. I didn't struggle as much with the two of us but that was 15m after i started cussing at the dam thing lol. . Yha the roll our pipe was such a pain in my but.
Hey buddy how are you? I have my eyes on the Danchel Ti Wood Stove ... Your input will mean a lot to me, before I pull the trigger on this Stove! Thank you and I really enjoy all your videos.................

Thanks for the review. How does this compare with the pomoly for 1) burn efficiency (I think rhetorical t-brick has 2ndary burn so theoretically more efficient?) and 2) sealing in the smoke? Thanks!
Hi James! I couldn’t tell ya at the moment as I never got the chance burn the T-Brick. The design says it should burn better, but I won’t know until the chill shows up again. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
The stainless steel wood stove is supposed to be a titanium stove. I bought one with the damper with the grid and the producer told me that they only produce titanium stoves with the damper with the grid. They have not produced stainless steel stoves with grid version.
There’s a distinct difference between titanium & stainless. The stove I have with the grid, is indeed stainless. I can’t comment on wether it’s still available or not. Thanks for watching!
@rob pelton I got it. I have a titanium one and I got a supposed "titanium" it was a gift. I definitely can see the difference between them but the producer told me that this is a titanium and the material sometimes looks different Due to different batches of production/restocking materials, there will be some color difference. This is what they told me: the damper with the grid must be a titanium stove. We have not produced stainless steel stoves with grid version.
Keep in mind that I've only used it for a couple weeks, that being said, so far so good ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM . Using it at 8 ft. by 8ft. deer blind that is insulated. I have to keep the door cracked for it to get enough air to burn, but that is very likely the wood I've used. Much better quality than I expected for the price. Now if I can just take it easy in the beginning it won't be 90 degrees in my blind. All in all it seems like a keeper.
Dag'um man u bout look like me trying roll that thing up lol but I think ya gotta unroll it once it's rolled and the rings are on and that makes it flat on the ends lol still watching tho
This video is what I had been needing in my stove research so thank you for this. Is there a link to the windowless ti option? I haven't been able to find it on Amazon and it would really help my confidence not having to worry about a glass door far into the backcountry. TIA
There’s a guy I follow here on UA-cam that have the exact same stove and he done a review just like u and thought it was a great stove until he used it in his tent. He tried it on to separate overnight trips and it was awful. When it would get hot it would open up and make big gaps in the back and then it was uncontrollable with the drafter in the door. The stone would get too much air and get hot enough to glow red. It was dangerous and he is looking for another stove for saftey reasons. His channel is newfiecountryboy. When he done his first review it was outside like u did and his first impression was the same as yours but it’s proved to be terrible in the tent.
I hate that roll up stove pipe. I’ve opted for the titanium fixed pipe sections. Works amazingly well and easy to assemble! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Hi Rob , it was worth watching ...just to see you wrestle with that STUPID PIPE ...WHO COME UP WITH THAT IDEA. 😠😠😠 EVEN AFTER BURNING IT STILL SUCKS...
That is one cool and nice stove the way it folds up, but that pipe would be a bitch!!!! I thought you were about to go IB TAT on its ass and either throw it in the pond and drop quite a few F-Bombs along the way. That would be a cool video to see. Oh yeah where was the frying pan with the Bacon. This review is incomplete without that!! Time to hit the trail again soon!!!!
Looking at these from a purely design- and materials-cost standpoint, these stoves are WAY overpriced. Too bad the market for them is relatively limited. If only there were more of a market for them, someone could profit from selling them at well less than half the cost.
@@stevelevesque676 yep. I tried a few different ways to roll it. It was just more difficult than I wanted to put work into. I do know, however, once burned it rolls up pretty damn easy. Maybe I’ll try it again this weekend. I won’t film it this time… Lol.

Dude, i just had to subscribe after that pipe roll debacle - LOL! Nice review, and I think you've convinced me on this brand. And, I think you should get an affiliate kickback from these guys. I am an up-north guy myself - maybe I'll see you on the trail sometime. GB
They’re a good value! That pipe though….haha. I’m not sure how local you are, but feel free to contact me vid Insta or FB. Thanks for watching!
Nice vid, Rob! I have been interested in hot tenting for years, and you’ve rekindled my interest.
The pool noodle may be the way. Take your time and try not get frustrated. Haha.
I like that they are stainless and titanium but for $259 I'll get the Kni-co stoves instead! Can't beat America made and tested in Alaska!
Kni-Co are built tough. Danchel is good for portability and that’s where it ends. Haha. Thanks for watching!
I'm new to this end of backpacking, planning some early season trips soon. Are there any alternatives to the roll up pipe?
Hi Charlene! You can purchase a fixed chimney. It comes in several segments. I actually ended up picking one up from Pomoly. It’s so much more convenient to put up, but far less packable. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Great review Rob! Now that you have that pipe burned in it's a breeze next time. I like that fold down design! My luxe 3w is pretty difficult to set up after it's all warped. Having the option to backpack in the stove is a game changer! I think you'll be happy with that. ✌️
That’s what I’ve heard. We shall see how it goes this upcoming winter season. Winter is done! The folding design is pretty sweet. Thanks Aaron!
Dude, you need to do some practice rolls with a joint then picture the chimney as a giant joint. I’m sure success will follow. 😁
I’m just talking out of my ass. I’m not a professional joint roller but I’m sure some seasoned rollers can chime in.
Haha!! There’s some wisdom there.
These came with those stoves. I did have one that only had the one bag as well though. Perhaps it depends in the size. Thanks for watching!
🤔🤷♂️? Feedback?
Yep. Hindsight has taught me alot. Haha. I do know that once you get it rolled and burned in, it rolls right up easy peasy.
Sounds like you may just have to head north to extend your hot tenting season... Artic Circle Hoedown anyone?
Nice overview, Rob.
No kidding. Haha. The end of this winter is bitter sweet. Thanks Andy!
That was soo funny! 🤣 That's why we let our little boys work on their fine motor skills in Head Start...JK, love the stove.
Haha. I had a hell of a time. Thanks for watching!
Great video, subscribed!
Thank you!
Awesome job rob. Interesting to see your take on different stoves
Much appreciated. Now, what to do with them…lol. Thanks for watching!
@@robpelton now you can spin the wheel to determine what stove you bring on each trip!
Yes! Also, as you collapse it down, it’ll auto scrape/clean the pipe! There is something there…thanks Pete!
My thoughts exactly!!! You're dead on. I love the portability of the stove and want one but the stove pipe is almost a deal killer.
... this telescoping design is available at Winnerwell ( at least it used to be) ,, but also pipes in sections that fit together as well as 45 and 90 degree bends ... not sure if size is the same though ..
may.it would.be good to make a version with modular stove pipe because of the huge problems and whats when its diry tats can be a problem to.
How did the burn go?
@@robpelton Had to put it off, gonna see if I can this weekend if the weather cooperates
I tried the pool noddle to roll it up. I asked my wife to come help me out lol. I didn't struggle as much with the two of us but that was 15m after i started cussing at the dam thing lol. . Yha the roll our pipe was such a pain in my but.
Damn that thing…haha!
Good job rob!😍😍
Thank you! All scenes are real reactions! Haha. Great product. Now, if winter would just go for another month….
Rob, have you gotten with them about making a telescopic flue that locks in when fully extended? Using a 1/ to 1/2 twist.
The idea has been tossed around. It makes tons of sense to me. We’ll see what this winter brings!
Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Hey buddy how are you? I have my eyes on the Danchel Ti Wood Stove ... Since is been 2 years of this review how you feel about the stove you still recommenced anything negative or positive you want to add? Your input will mean a lot to me, before I pull the trigger on this Stove! Thank you and I really enjoy all your videos.................
The Danchel is a great intro stove. I graduated to a Pomoly and is superior. That’s comes with a hefty price tag though.
@@robpelton I see well I rather keep saving my money and put it where is worth it... Thank you buddy for your honesty!!!
@@robpelton which pomoly stove model did you buy?
I'll be carful what I say in this comment. haha.. That's a nice stove. I got a cheap setup for Christmas and I've had a good time with it even here in Ohio. Yeah man that pipe is a pain it the ass.
Ha! You’re all good man. I guess once rolled up & burned in, it’s much easier. Now, on to summer!!!
You sure are capable! I would keep the chimney rolled out all the time if you have room til nxt camp out ....keep it rolled out over that pool.noodle
Words of encouragement or are you picking on me? Haha! Either way, thanks for watching!
@@robpelton encouragement brother!
Nice review, love the honesty just needed a little cussing
Oh. There were plenty of expletives uttered. Haha. Thanks for watching!
i had no problems rolling my pipe u had it when u had all the rings just have to keep spinning it till u get it straight
I had a hell of a time. Haha.
Great review thank you
Thanks Diane! I’m a little sad to see winter go. Haha.
Thanks for the review. How does this compare with the pomoly for
1) burn efficiency (I think rhetorical t-brick has 2ndary burn so theoretically more efficient?)
and
2) sealing in the smoke?
Thanks!
Hi James! I couldn’t tell ya at the moment as I never got the chance burn the T-Brick. The design says it should burn better, but I won’t know until the chill shows up again. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Very good
Thanks for watching!
Now I am try to figure out if is this really titanium or not. just because I will keep only one with me and sell the another one.
@@brunoneves9900 I’ll weigh it. That should suffice.
@@robpelton thanks
The pipe gets easier after a few burns..
It has for sure. That 1st roll though. Yikes. Lol. Thanks for watching!
I was ready to punch a nun after that. Lol. Thanks for watching!
I cannot find the titanium version without the glass door. What model is that?
I think it’s out of production now. Not having to risk broken glass is a good move.
If the stove pipe was telescopic like a radio antenna, it would be self cleaning too. It could be made.
I agree! Some one has to have one out there. How are you at fabricating? Haha. Thanks for watching!
.. not sure if it's the same size but Winnerwell has telescopic stovepipes as well as short put together sections ...
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
This video is what I had been needing in my stove research so thank you for this.
Is there a link to the windowless ti option? I haven't been able to find it on Amazon and it would really help my confidence not having to worry about a glass door far into the backcountry. TIA
Hi Michael. Thanks for watching! Shoot me a message on Insta or find me on FB.
Seek Outside makes a windowless titanium stove in the USA.
🤣🤣 Solidarity on the pipe dude.
That got real. Real fast. Haha.
Love you bye??? Don’t ever say that to me again lol …it was pretty entertaining tho to watch you almost lose it with that pipe 😜🤘🏼
It’s not weird unless you make it weird! Bro, that stove pipe….
@@robpelton lmao that stove pipe would’ve ended up in that pond behind the house if it was me…you’re a better man than I am lol
Subbed 😆
Many thanks to you!
I’m thinking next winter …
For sure!
Whuts that stove behind ta yer left? It looks like the one I want.....lol
That is the Pomoly T-Brick Mini! ua-cam.com/video/gGnolWXSdpc/v-deo.html
Use this and methane for fuel, to make miniature hydroelectric. Maybe I said that the wrong way, you can use the steam to make electricity.
Where's the Amazon link
Video description!
Oh no! That sounds like a defective unit. All these stoves I have are in use and have had zero issues. I’d return that sucker.
That sheet is the main reason i wont be getting this, which is sad as its a good stove
Man, that’s thing damn near broke me. Haha. I ended up buying fixed pipes. 😬 thanks for watching!
I damn near did! Bacon makes everything better. Haha. Thanks Shane!
How many hot stoves does one guy need ?
2! lol. I’ll be hosting a giveaway it appears…
@@robpelton Awesome. Excited for that.
Use a pool noodle to roll
it is not the easiest thing in the world. For anyone. In fact, I would not video me doing it as there is a lot of cussing.
Oh. There was plenty of unpleasant profanities proliferating from my vocal portal! I just edited it out… Lol. Thanks for watching!
That front door on the brand new stove to the right is already crooked from the manufacturer, definitely poor quality control.
Send that back & exchange for sure.
That chimney sh t show is not worth the aggravation
Man. What a nightmare. Haha. I did end up getting it rolled & burned. Now it works great!
Looking at these from a purely design- and materials-cost standpoint, these stoves are WAY overpriced. Too bad the market for them is relatively limited. If only there were more of a market for them, someone could profit from selling them at well less than half the cost.
I agree! There’s an opportunity here for sure.
I do not like the pipe rolling!!
Oh. I hated it. Haha. Once burned though, it’s super easy.

Me neither. Haha. I ended up buying the fixed pipe. Thanks for watching!
Which fixed pipe did you buy? Can we see a video with that set up? :)
No thanks on that stovepipe.
Agreed! Haha. I ended up buying the fixed pipe sections. So much better. Thanks for watching!
You've convinced me. Don't get that stove.
Ha! Definitely cumbersome at first. I prefer fixed pipes, but all in all, a good option for light loads and a small tent. Thanks for watching!
this was painful to watch at15:36 stop add 2or 3 rings go to other end do the same thing start roling add the rest of your rings
I did that. Still a pain in my ass. Lol.
@@robpelton really thats odd
@@stevelevesque676 yep. I tried a few different ways to roll it. It was just more difficult than I wanted to put work into. I do know, however, once burned it rolls up pretty damn easy. Maybe I’ll try it again this weekend. I won’t film it this time… Lol.
@robpelton lol hope it works easier for you as I have rolled things just like that around the same length and that was the trick for me
I have two of these stoves and they are no where near the qualityb of Pomoly. Cry once buy once.
