  • Today, I have the FiFine K658 Dynamic USB Microphone in the Audio Hotline Studio! In this review of the K658 I also include a comparison with the Shure MV7, Samson Q9U, Samson Q2U, Audio-Technica ATR2100X, and the Behringer XM8500 (w/ UCM22 interface). This review and comparison will hopefully help you decide if the Fifine K658 is right for you... or if one of the other mic's in the comparison will be better for you.
Check out the testing and audio samples and see if this mic (or one of the mics) is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!
Thanks for watching the Audio Hotline! I'll see you Audio Nerds next time!

We take your advice seriously! It may not look like the case of this K658 dynamic microphone. But some new models that are going to be released later this year or early next year will definitely catch your eyes for being our own style! And thanks for pronouncing the brand name in the right way😉 and all the suggestions on this K658. It's our first attempt at a USB dynamic microphone, will continue to make it a better one. Thanks once again for your great work on making this video!

I am sure you having been working on this mic a while before I said anything in previous reviews, I was just making a silly joke! I appreciate that you take in to consideration my opinion. You guys already do a great job. I don't think I have given a single FiFine product a bad grade/review and I have done quite a few reviews of your products! I am very excited to see those new models! FiFine will always have a home on the Audio Hotline.

@@ramonzeira Thanks for your suggestion! As the technology in webcams keeps growing, one-day webcams may be replacing the DSLR cameras, then a USB shotgun mic is a better option to use with. As for the USB shotguns for mobiles, it will be super convenient for run-and-gun interview recording. But we're not quite specialized in the mobiles, it may take a while for us to make such a shotgun mic.

I've been scrambling on so many mics to upgrade to from my blue yeti. And I cried when you said you were going to do a blind microphone test. I knew that I was gonna have to so more researching and research the mics I think sound well in the test. I heard Mic C and I was like... DAMNIT THAT ONE SOUNDS SO GOOD. No way it's the K658. I'm gonna have to buy whatever Mic C is.... LOW AND BEHOLD OHOHOHO. Thank you

Got two of these. One for me, one for my wife. They are pretty great (conf calling, streaming). We will often be doing two different things on line, but ten feet apart. This microphone does not pick up all the exterior noise.
    And mute button. WIN!
Works great at 85% software gain and about 25% on the physical dial if it is a foot away. Getting a boom at some point.

RIP, picked up a K678 (condenser mic, "fake" Blue Yeti) couple months ago! Wish they had that dynamic K658 back when I bought it! Love the included shock mount, there's like none that fits the K678... The RGBs are a nice added bonus, but the fact it looks like a SM7B might just be my reason to upgrade (My dream mic is a SM7B...) ALSO USB-C?! FINALLY!

Hello, first of all my English is not very good so sorry if you said it in the video, a few days ago I got this same microphone but my unit has quite annoying and constant buzzing or electrical noise, I use it in windows and I have I tried with different levels of the windows configuration but the noise does not go away, obviously the lower the level the less it is heard but at the same time the louder I have to speak ... I would like to know at what gain level did you use the microphone in the video? It sounds excellent and from what I hear in your case it does not present any type of electrical noise

Fantastic video! This or the Q2U? I love the aesthetic of this and the capacitive mute switch, but I've had my eye on the Q2U for a while and the K658 doesn't sound like it handles plosives very well.

    •  2 роки тому +2

I choice the k658. He arrived in few days. To The plosives, you would buy a same windscreen foam in aliexpress. That's tha same this video. The same to sm7b. That's the best choice. K658. My opinion and my choice to.

    • @FIFINE
      @FIFINE 2 роки тому +3

Hi Roach, apart from the look and the touch-sensitive mute button, there're actually differences in the background noise rejection (even though they're both dynamic mic) and the tone. The K658 does the same good job at rejecting background noise, or even more crazy at off-axis rejection (some people may not like it). In terms of tone, the Q2U may sound brighter while the K658 is heavier on the low-end side for a warmer sounding. At last, to be honest, we think that the biggest factor to put you off from the K658 is the XLR version of it hasn't been released yet, lol.

    • @AudioHotline
      @AudioHotline  2 роки тому

@@demarcuscousinsthe3rd424 My favorite one is $80… it’s the Vivo Microphone Desk Arm. I am obsessed with it. The reason I like it so much is that you can maneuver it whatever way you need (something I have struggled with, with other arms), it is super strong, you can mount different accessories to the pole it comes with, it can be changed from low angled to high, and it is cheaper than other more “premium” options. If you can spend this much on a boom arm, definitely give it a try.
      Vivo: amzn.to/3EPHjbk
As a cheaper option, something like this would work well… it’s not as exciting, but it gets the job done:
      amzn.to/3vkGHHx
If you don’t NEED the stand to be attached to your desk, I am a big fan of just putting an inexpensive mic stand close to your desk. The Amazon basics one works fine for this:

I definitely didn’t have a hiss issue with my unit. I am curious to check one of these reviews out and see what’s going on. Can you link one for me? Or tell me the channel name? Thanks!

@@Amutomoto Alright, I checked that out, and I have a few thoughts on this video:
If I were to take any USB mic or any Audio Interface and turn it to 100%... The noise floor level is absolutely going to raise and be very noticeable. However. a majority of people really shouldn't have to turn this mic to 100% to get a good level. I was at less than 50% during my review and I was hitting -12db. Absolutely no offense to that UA-camr (Preston), but he has a very quiet/soft voice... When he had the gain all the way up and the waveforms were still tiny, I was blown away. If I turn this mic all the way up and talk normal, not even my excited voice, I clip EASILY. Also, it did seem like he was a little far away from the mic, and FiFine told me that people should be pretty close to this mic, as I mention in my video. I do want to say though, some camera angles and focal distances can kind of mess with perception of how close or far away an object looks in a video... So I am not positive he was as far away as it seemed.
This is just one of those things where people are going to have different experiences, and it's not just this mic... it's every usb mic, XLR mic and interface. People have different voices, people talk at different volumes. However, if you have an average voice and speak at an average level, you will not have an issue with the noise floor level of this microphone.

@@AudioHotline but which one do you recommend as the best of those options? I just ordered this mic because it’s dynamic and my husband wants his mic out of frame if possible. He has a lot of road noise in his recording space (he faces the window to record) and I was hoping this mic was the compromise 😩 plus looks great.
I’ve been binging your videos 🙏🏽 and keeping my eye out for the USB reviews and the ambient noise at around 10-12” from the mic.
I use the Shure Mv88+ in my most recent videos (no post audio processing) and I really appreciate what it does for me, but it doesn’t sound the same in his space.
Even our trusted Rode Lav sounds horrid in this house.
I’m collecting mics for no good reason. 😂 I just don’t want to have my mouth by the mic and it seems the trendy Shure SM series, you have to

    • @AudioHotline

A mic like this, I wouldn’t really recommend being more than 6 inches from the mouth. FiFine recommends “within 5 inches” (4:03). The further a mic is from the mouth, the more room echo/reverb gets into the mic from the voice bouncing off of walls and then entering the capsule. Being close to the mic puts the focus on the voice, some room noise can still get in of course, but not nearly as bad. That’s probably the same cause of your Lav recordings not sounding good.
Is it a small or big room that you and him are recording in? In smaller rooms, with less treatment, I actually really love small diaphragm condenser mics. Some shotgun mics can have phase issues in smaller rooms, which totally kills the low end (bass) of the recording. Small diaphragm condensers don’t have active sound rejection like shotgun mics do, so it eliminates that phase issue in rooms. Shotguns are great for outdoors and really big rooms though. As far as a budget, I am not sure what you are looking at, but I am in love with the Oktava MK012 with the hypercardioid polar pattern. I would recommend that mic to most content creators over a shotgun mic. It sounds great even when it is a out of the camera’s view. However, it is an XLR mic… so an audio interface or zoom/tascam recorder would be needed.
Wow, this is a long response 😂
You could always try putting up a couple moving blankets on light stands (or c stands) while recording. That will help absorb some of those problematic reflections in your recording room. If you were going to use the FiFine at a distance, this moving blanket method would definitely help. Then boosting some lows and highs in post.
Thanks for binging! If you want to listen to the oktava, I use it for most of my review of the Adam T5V studio monitors.

@@AudioHotline thanks so much. If this particular function is that important to him, I have a scarlet interface I can use for an XLR mic if you think that will make the most improvement overall. Thanks so much for your recommendations and taking the time for my comment. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
