#q2uCult at least our cult recommends a good microphone. ;)
:D
Heeeey!
mostly everything is a "yati killer"
This mic is a godsent
The Q2U Cult so real😁😁😁😁😁
I got the mic because of this video. My viewers on twitch had asked what mic I have because it sounded clear and professional. It is a night and day difference between the Samson and the Blue Yeti.
:D :D Thanks for commenting! Glad to hear it!
do u use xlr or usb
my blue yeti picks up everything i am going to get Q9U
Excuse me. u are using it from USB or XLR?
I want to buy Samson Q2U USB mic, but I have heard that it doesn't work well in Windows 10. Does it still have issue with Windows 10?
Good review overall, and a good mic for sure, especially as a starter mic.. One thing (and I"ve had this mic) that's important to let viewers know that I think you didn't mention is that you absolutely need to have this mic on a mic stand or a boom arm because it's a terrible mic as a hand held. It picks up hand noise in a huge way, so while I'd recommend it as a very good mic to podcast with, you really need to have at least some kind of stand to have it on because if you podcast "on the go" with it and hold it in your hand, you're going to be dissapointed.
Great to see Podcastage respond as well! I bought this mic for my wife and I'd totally recommend it to anyone as well as a starter mic. It sounds great and rejects background noise. Thanks for the review!
This video has been the reason I upgraded from a blue snowball to the Samson Q2U. Thus far, I'm really happy with the sound of the microphone.
I also am upgrading from the snowball
@@jouaqojit that's great to hear. What microphone are you thinking of getting?
As a user of the q2u I can say, it's a great budget mic.
I am so glad I found this, just bought this on a pre black friday sale! So hyped to start creating content with this
@The Caring Adolf Hitler I do - but no longer my daily driver, that is now ELGATO WAVE 3
I enjoy watching your videos, man.
You definitely should do voice-acting!!! You have it in you.
Haha thanks
Perfect timing on this @eposvox. I recorded a video last night and cringed at the audio even after processing from my gaming headset. Pulled the trigger and bought this on my way to work. Will let you know what I think when I rerecord the video this weekend
Nice!@
So how was it lol
I just bought myself one a week ago. Upgraded from a Boya M1 lavalier microphone. Best investment for my study by far. You can also plug this mic into a cellphone or iPad with the USB connection for true on-the-go recording.
From the reviews of other USB/XLR mics it seems like the XLR isn’t as good but this one sounds beautiful which is great because I do want to plug into a mixer. Good review!
Awesome video! I'm currently on the B&H waitlist to get the entire pack including the headphones and crane arm!
How do you think the usb part of the mic compares with this mic:

Very nice review. After extensive research, I settled with the Q2U (using your B&H affiliate link) based on mostly this video. The prices of all audio equipment seem jacked up at the moment, especially for Canada where selection is already limited. B&H and BestBuy still sell the Q2U base pack at $60
This mic sounds like a great value. I love my sm57 for streaming. But I would have considered this one just for the price point if I knew about it before. I still may pick this up just for an extra mic or backup. Nice review man!
I'm glad you said that going to XLR mode is an UPGRADE! I've been using this microphone via USB, and it's already giving trouble.
This review just convinced me to buy two. Looking forward to trying them out!
Spent 2 hours trying to find an AC text between USB and XLR. Bless you.
Thanks! I'm going to get this instead of the Audio Technica 2100 as i've broken 3 of them now.
Wow!
Hopefully the ATR-2100xUSB is way more sturdy, although it's now too expensive. Hopefully that's not permanent.
getting this as a step up from the blue snowball. love the idea. thank you EposVox and Podcastage
Hey „cult leaders” :)
I am wondering, whether you use OBS for live broadcasting, and if you do, what compression settings you recommend for this type of dynamic mic? (I personally have an SM58)
#cultofq2u
Perfect beginner mic
I honestly still use mine for game streaming on mixer. It just works so damn well for the price.
:D honestly plenty of people would be fine to never switch off of this one
@@EposVox I have this mic! But I want to know what mic stand should I use for the Q2U? What is your advice? What is the mic stand that you are using in the video with this mic?
This mic, the Behringer UMC2, and (if possible an amp) are next to buy on my list. Currently I stream with a Sennheiser GameZero headset with the Sennheiser GSX1200 amp for streaming. Excellent review!
I got the UMC 404HD instead😋
Exmachinagamma what is the difference?
@@globnoggin8779 The GSX 1200 headset amp is what I used for my headphones built in mic since it used 3.5 mm jacks. My mic was always on in the past before I got into software noise gate and compression😅. The price is similar to some audio interfaces so I'd say shop around and in your budget.
I had to return mine. The headphone jack underneath the microphone broke (fell apart inside) after only 2 weeks of owning. Used it 5-8 times, recorded 2 podcasts in total.
Overall, barely used and it broke. It was pretty annoying and I hope I was one of the few that had this issue happen to them BUT I wanted to mention in case anyone buys this mic, to keep the receipt just in case.
Great video/breakdown! Bought the Audio Technica instead.
Juan Rivas Caban both of mine had problems with their 3.5 mm ports and the on/off switches from the beginning. Using them for five years now, only with XLR though. Didn’t bother returning them because of my usecase... but definitely some quality control issues there
sounds better than your RE20, crazy.
Have seen most of the review of samson q2u and this is one of the best one so far
OOF! Sounded good until you ran it through the processing strip. It sounded a bit harsh and took away the warm tone
Hahaha agreed
EposVox I know that this video is 1 yr old, but could you explain this comment about the processing strip?
According to wikipedia " A group of foxes is referred to as a skulk, leash, or earth" , so probably the pluralized version of one of them (the first one is my favourite).
thanks for the recommendation....just ordered one of these for my game streaming(I keep discord headset mic separate from stream audio with voicemeter bananna). Can confirm that Focusrite is a PITA and do not want to deal with XLR for live applications, USB easy peasy :D
I just bought this but I'm hearing a little bit of white noise in the background while playing.
Might be ground-loop interference.
Man those ear-phorias shot up in price! It’s like all the budget mics and audio interfaces jumped up $50, people are charging 90 for the um2 and the cheapest on amazon of any interface from that company is $118
How to avoid plosives (copied from an answer here which I made): Try to use Shure SMv7b WIndshield, the big one. I read it somewhere and ordered one. Haven't tried it yet but it comes from wish so who knows. Was sick and tired of the spedition being the same as the price, plus the risk of it being held back by the damn customs (talking about receiving goods from the US). Those fuc.... held back 3 vital shipments of mine, 2 years ago and I never got any email or anything. Then 7 months later I got one reminder that they were holding back one package. OHH so wonderful. Then I payed roughly half of the price I paid originally. And then I finally got it. 8 months after ordering it from the US to Europe. Huraaah
Coming from your review of the Samson G Track Pro review, when you introduced this mic, you spoke behind it but it sounded the same, but in this review you did the same thing but it was noticeably quieter. So what video should I beleive? :D It seemed it has a 360 pattern with great noise reduction.
Edit: my sleep deprived ass didn't realise it was a voice over of the video.
The mic sounds pretty good
I think i will go for that one
Bought the Q2U because of you and Podcastage, thank you guys it rocks!
I want to buy Samson Q2U USB mic, but I have heard that it doesn't work well in Windows 10. Does it still have issue with Windows 10?
@@habibullahsamander2798 last I used it it was having issues on Win 10 with the drivers, but that was over a year ago, I ended up upgrading to a Rode Podmic, but that is xlr only so you need an interface or a mixer.
However, I can also say that while it was annoying, when it would have issues it would start working again after I would unplug it and plug it again. Didn't have any issues with the Q2U with an interface either though, just the Windows 10 drivers.
Hope this helps. Also I should point out that despite that issue it's still a very solid mic and sounds great out of the box :). If you have other questions let me know
@@FromTheHollow
@FromTheHollow
Thanks for you helpfull answer. I don't have that much money to buy an interface with it. I just I need a microphone for UA-cam videos to sound good. I use Windows 10, would you recommend me this mic?
I also have heard from some youtubers who say that some USB interfaces also have problem with Windows 10? Like Behringer UMC22. Is it right?
Which budget USB mic or interface do you recommend to work fine with Windows 10?
@@habibullahsamander2798 no problem. Yeah, I wasn't sure since everyone has different budgets. The Q2U is a good mic but I found the driver unreliability to be a bit of a deal breaker for me personally (I do different setups where I sometimes mic other people too, so it wasn't just my mic). Again though, that was over a year ago, drivers could have been updated and may be better now, I'm not sure.
As far as budget interfaces I don't really have anything cheaper than the focusrite that I could recommend, but if you go that route it's worth saving the extra $20-$30 for the Motu M2 as it gives more gain (as well as slightly cleaner gain) and more headroom for your signal. It also gives loopback functionality which can be huge for a lot of musicians and podcasters. Not to mention the meters on the lcd screen are far more useful than the clip halo indicators of the focusrite. Also in regards to Behringer I've not used them but a couple of my friends have one and both of them needed another cable to get headphones to work properly for some reason...
If you intend on staying on USB and it's in the budget I'd recommend the Elgato Wave as it also has software to process your mic, I think it comes with a mount and pop filter as well, really good value :). The Wave is a condenser however, which will be more sensitive to background noise than that of a dynamic mic.
If you're wanting a really good USB dynamic mic I'd recommend the Shure MV7 (which can also be used xlr or XLR AND USB at the same time, which can be huge). It also has software to process the signal :) It is however considerably more pricey than the others.
You might be able to find a reddit thread or something with more recent info on the Q2U drivers, they might have updated them.
Hope this helps you :)

Thanks for your helpfull replies.
Can we be friends on social media?
buy on B&H
Why I do not find opinions about Samson Q1U, also ?
it seems that the price of the Q2U went up recently. In my country, the mic (no headphone included) is just a little bit cheaper compared to the Shure SM57-LC and $20 cheaper than the Sennheiser e835. Should I buy the Q2U over the Shure and Sennheiser? I'm just using the mic for online teaching and my room is quite noisy. Thanks.
Amazing how using the RE-20 is like turning on a radio-broadcaster _switch!_ But the Samson is more natural (though I would still mess with a little EQ on it). Different tools for different sonic goals!
I got mine for $45 when it was on sale last year at B&H.
I finally got a Samson Q2U and... somehow it captures way more background noise than my Blue Snowball... which is weird considering that's a condenser mic.
Maybe I just don't know how to set it up properly, it sounds much better but I don't really like how you can hear every sound in the house.
Great review. I got the mic because of this. May I ask you another quick question? What boom arm do you use? I am looking for a floor-standing boom, as my tables are too thick and can not hold a screwed-on version. Thank you very much and keep the great reviews coming.
This mic is so popular that (combined with corona measures) if takes an average of 1.5 MONTHS to get this at home in the Netherlands.
You got me excited. The mic's I have access too are all so bad. I might get this.
Excellant microphone we use them for our school news broadcasts
thank you so much for this review! I just ordered one from Best Buy. It wasn't available on Amazon :(
Would you still say it’s a solid mic for the pic or is there something much better now?
Glad I found this. I'm using the Samson Q2U with a Behringer UMC404HD, into a MacBook Pro. Mics are hooked up with XLR cables. I get a nasty 'electrical' buzz that I cannot seem to get rid of. all the fluorescent lights are off, we're sitting in a carpeted (but not sound proof) office. Any idea what to look for?
buy the micro .... it is normal that you have to raise the gain a lot with the scarlett interface only 3gen ....
I just stumbled on your video today, and was really impressed with the noise cancellation of this microphone.
I just wanted to know if you still recommend this mic in 2020. Thanks
yes
I got this mic recently and so far i like it a lot. However, one small problem, everytime i Restart my PC. The mic will not detect my voice and have awful static feedback playing through instead, unless i unplug and replug the cable. (using USB BTW) I will end up getting an interface of some sort soon, after doing some research and finding the budget to do so. But, does anyone have any idea why this static issue is happening and how i can solve it?
Possibly because it doesn't loose power when the pc turns off? If you enable the ErP support setting in your bios then when you turn off the pc all the usb stuff will loose power, that might help.
I do have the issue where the mic wont detect sound but not the static issue
5:40
What's that about a built in noise gate?
Is that actually a thing? Never heard anything about it with this mic.
Also that RE20 test was a lot hotter than the Q2U, likely had a bit of compression too eh?
your voice is so soothing. i have given into the subscribe button
Don't know if you'll see this but I do love your reviews. I bought one off amazon I'll put a link as a reply that I recommend you check to see if it's worth a review. I use it all the time cuz I use the Samson q2u as I've had it for years. But I use the amazon one a ton for streaming and what not. It doesn't require USB it's just a mic jack

I have this mic! But I want to know what mic stand should I use for this? What is your advice? What is the mic stand that you are using in the video with this mic?
Would you personally go with this and an XLR setup, or a condenser mic (like the g track pro) over usb?
Holy plosives Batman! Do you have any vids with a pop screen?
U mentioned the mic had a auto noise gate or something such as that????
Thank you for your recommandation
If you're simply looking for an XLR mic, you can get the Samson Q7X for the same price as this mic.
any difference?
Hello! I was looking for a solid microphone and this review made me decide for it, and i also bought that behringer um2 that you recommend but i have no clue about how configure it, as im not seeing levels in a voicemeter or something i cant tell how high my voice is,so there is a program for configure this out? Can you make a video configuring this microphone and that um2? Do i need that +48V for the q2u mic? Or it may be posible that you provide me some kind of site or guide or something post somewhere so i can do it by my self? Ty so much and congrats for this great video.
Well what i know is that if you do get 48v phantom power for the mic it will be better
i went and purchased this microphone after watching this video, unfortunately for some reason nowhere in the u.k sells it had to get it from the states... hoping it is as good as i hear in this video as not had much luck with microphones, are you using any software with this microphone for example voicemeter etc? great video
For $60 this is absolutely incredible. I’m tempted to pick one up
Do it. You wont be disappointed
Hey, great review! Did you apply any filters or software to the mic? Thanks!
I'm a beginner . So I have a question ... Can I plug this mic on a mixer? LOL pls reply
You can plug this into a mixer with a XLR cable.
@@ProfessorX931 thanks bruv😍
Hi! you have an awesome review,
how's the monitoring capacity of the Mic? Is it still working?
Thanks.
Hi! Would you ever do a comparison of Q2U, ATR2100 and AT2005. As they are almost identical in appearance, just the price is different.
Can you recommend a quality + relatively affordable Adjustable Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand?
Ok maybe you know how to fix this since you recommend it... apparently there is a known issue with this mic... it does not get detected often unless you unplug it and plug it back in... I've tried driver re-installs also changing power settings to the usb port etc etc... can not find a fix that works. Being as it is a known issue I'm sure its not my system... if you know of any solution that works ... please let me know... other than that I love this mic.
Any reason why when monitoring with headphones sound only comes from the left side?
Would anybody still recommend this in 2022 for streaming?
I have some urgent questions please may you answer. Because i have a 20 dollar microphone from neewer and its kinda trash i was thinking if getting the beringer would help since i got there the neewer low budget 18v phantom power supply i was also wondering if the samson Q2u youre using in this video has a filters on it and if so what. ( sorry i am a beginner wannabe youtuber trying to solve my mic problems)
Damn, I just got the Xm8500. Where were you a month ago???!!!!!!!
Bro... i have tried everything but my screen mirror is not working on obs.. can you please help me?????
I keep getting a blk screen
Better than blue yeti for back round noise? Also does it sound better or no?
Can you use both an audio interface and the GoXLR if you need more inputs? i.e. Mic -> Audio Interface -> GoXLR?
Well you convinced me to get it thanks👏🏽
Hope you enjoy it!
What do you have your recording volume set too for the Q2U?
is it still good without a USB interface?
What mic arm do you recommend?
Go with a Heil Sound PL-2T Overhead If money's not a issue, Or a
NEEWER one for $13 for now wil ldo fine.
Thank you a ton for this video! Ended up deciding to sell me Blue Yeti and upgraded to the Samson Q2U - it's honestly SO MUCH BETTER. Without this video I probably wouldn't have bought it. You really sold me on the mic, quality and sound.
Awesome!
This vs Fifine k670? I know they are different microphone types but they are both budget kings
I found out about this mic from an audio engineer on the OBS Discord server. YES, it's a winner. I bought one several weeks ago, solved a LOT of problems for me. sample: ua-cam.com/video/7hoX3ygyD-Y/v-deo.html
I can't find this mic anywhere anymore, is the ATR2100X a good replacement in that case? They seem to be almost the exact same mic
Me trying to find this mic 2 years after this video:
annnnnnnnnnd it's gone
I found it on AliExpress with free shipping for $69. It’s higher than its classic price, but in the uncertainty of this mic probably not coming back soon, I preferred to expend the extra dollars and assure I’ll have it.
Can you recommend a budget boom arm for this mic? Also, what screw size is the extension? Just good to know for searching for boom arms
Wonderful review!
One question - When you switched the microphone to USB mode, it captured a little more noise as compared to XLR. In such case, if I'm broadcasting using OBS or vMix, is it possible to reduce noise using an audio plugin?
Would be helpful if you could suggest a suitable measure for the same.
Note: I don't have an audio interface at the moment due to budget constraints.
OBS has a noise suppression filter you can add.
I’m curious as to why you hang your microphone upside down from your boom arm. Are you worried about the clamp not holding it upright? You could hold the mic upright, and then you could push your boom arm down and out of the frame. Your microphone would still work the same and you wouldn’t have a boom taking up 1/4 of the frame.
Would take up less of the frame but would take up substantially more desk space. All of the arms I have (and any heavy duty ones in general; as I've bought specific ones to hold my heavy mics) are designed only to come down from above. otherwise you'd have to awkwardly stretch it sideways across the entire side of the desk, which is just a horrible way to work.
my main arm is mounted up and above behind my monitor out of the way. Honestly it's the best way to hold such a mic for ergonomic/desk space reasons (literally could not do what you're describing), especially since I don't use it for streaming or anything.
EposVox I’ve noticed that it looks like you have two arms kind of stacked on top of each other since you’ll pull one down occasionally and then push it back up. Do you have a reverse angle of your desk so I can see that setup?
I simply just clamp a second arm to the front of my desk to showcase the microphone I'm reviewing when I do these videos that way I don't have to mess with my normal production setup, and take it back down when I'm done with the video.
Rob Cowie I use an Auray BA-2EU for our podcast but I’m not sure which one EposVox uses
I am debating buying this or the m audio nova so I would appreciate it if you can pick up a m audio nova 🙂
Getting this Monday along with the mixer you recommended, can you recommend a arm and shock mount for this please? Idk if the neewer one on Amazon is strong enough
I picked one up and I love it, but I'm looking for a more barebones version. Does anyone know if Samson makes the mic without the USB feature but with the same capsule?
what boom arm did you use for the q2u? what cheap $20-$70 boom arms do you reccomnd?
How is this mic for reducing keyboard and mouse sounds?
Random question, how well would this new for something like an orchestra with the microphone placed in the audience? If you don't know don't worry, I'm just wondering what starter mic to get for that task. Thanks!
I would recommend a condenser mic for you particular needs.
matt lacoff thanks!
Hi!!! I have kind of a problem here. So, I just bought a Steinberg UR12 audio interface. When I connect the mic, and press record, my voice is too low, even when I have the input gain at max, the signal it's too low. I thought it was the xlr cable the box included with the mic, so I bought a better one, but the problem it's still there. I''m using audacity but tested with reaper too and nothing changed. Help pls!!!
Do you happen to have a set up video for the 204hd?
Do you have a video on XLR setup?
Gonna go with the Sampson and $30 XLR converter
Would this work with the XLR interface i got with my BM-700 mic? The interface has an XLR cable to the interface and then in XLR to 3.5mm for the PC.
Hey brother.....at 3:44 two years later that's no longer online on Amazon for $29.49. For 2020, is there something comparable for around the same price? Thank you so much.
i'm stuck for choice, would you recommend this or the AT2020? want to start creating content.... great video btw
If you're doing at-desk videos/streaming/etc. definitely this
@@EposVox thank you very much for your rapid reply
