I got the mic because of this video. My viewers on twitch had asked what mic I have because it sounded clear and professional. It is a night and day difference between the Samson and the Blue Yeti.
Great to see Podcastage respond as well! I bought this mic for my wife and I'd totally recommend it to anyone as well as a starter mic. It sounds great and rejects background noise. Thanks for the review!
Good review overall, and a good mic for sure, especially as a starter mic.. One thing (and I"ve had this mic) that's important to let viewers know that I think you didn't mention is that you absolutely need to have this mic on a mic stand or a boom arm because it's a terrible mic as a hand held. It picks up hand noise in a huge way, so while I'd recommend it as a very good mic to podcast with, you really need to have at least some kind of stand to have it on because if you podcast "on the go" with it and hold it in your hand, you're going to be dissapointed.
Hey „cult leaders” :) I am wondering, whether you use OBS for live broadcasting, and if you do, what compression settings you recommend for this type of dynamic mic? (I personally have an SM58)
I just today got this mic as a gift from one of my viewers as my Snowball Ice was just horrible. First I was going crazy about some weird static noise in one particular spot. Thought it's broken. It turned out that this ONLY happens when I have certain colors on my Logitech Keyboard activated! So dark red is okay, but yellow gives me a crazy static noise. Using it via USB for now until I get a mixer. Never thought that this could be an issue as I never had it! Maybe someone else has the same issue and is helped with this comment! ^^ Using Voicemeeter Banana with an VST host on the Insert ASIO driver where I gate, compress, limit and eq. Then monitoring it via Asia4all. Works pretty good! Really happy and that for 80€ and even having an upgrade path yeah...a no brainer!
Your voice sounds great. Can you tell me more about the post production settings you've overlayed? I'm having a bit of a difficult with settling in something I like
Great review. I got the mic because of this. May I ask you another quick question? What boom arm do you use? I am looking for a floor-standing boom, as my tables are too thick and can not hold a screwed-on version. Thank you very much and keep the great reviews coming.
I just stumbled on your video today, and was really impressed with the noise cancellation of this microphone. I just wanted to know if you still recommend this mic in 2020. Thanks
i went and purchased this microphone after watching this video, unfortunately for some reason nowhere in the u.k sells it had to get it from the states... hoping it is as good as i hear in this video as not had much luck with microphones, are you using any software with this microphone for example voicemeter etc? great video
Excellent review, man. I use this for my podcast, via XLR and Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. I tried the Rode PodMic, and didn't come close. New subscriber.
it seems that the price of the Q2U went up recently. In my country, the mic (no headphone included) is just a little bit cheaper compared to the Shure SM57-LC and $20 cheaper than the Sennheiser e835. Should I buy the Q2U over the Shure and Sennheiser? I'm just using the mic for online teaching and my room is quite noisy. Thanks.
Coming from your review of the Samson G Track Pro review, when you introduced this mic, you spoke behind it but it sounded the same, but in this review you did the same thing but it was noticeably quieter. So what video should I beleive? :D It seemed it has a 360 pattern with great noise reduction. Edit: my sleep deprived ass didn't realise it was a voice over of the video.
After watching this I found your review of the Audio Technica ATR2100USB and I have to say, the Samson Q2U blows it away! Quick question, what size shock mount do you recommend for the Q2U?
Glad I found this. I'm using the Samson Q2U with a Behringer UMC404HD, into a MacBook Pro. Mics are hooked up with XLR cables. I get a nasty 'electrical' buzz that I cannot seem to get rid of. all the fluorescent lights are off, we're sitting in a carpeted (but not sound proof) office. Any idea what to look for?
5:40 What's that about a built in noise gate? Is that actually a thing? Never heard anything about it with this mic. Also that RE20 test was a lot hotter than the Q2U, likely had a bit of compression too eh?
I'm trying to get my friends daughter in to streaming. Content creation seems like it will be around for awhile. I got the Q2U, for her, a boom and pop filter. I just now bought the U-Phoria thanks to your recommendation. I never even thought of a pre-amp. Best honest review, thanks.
Damn, I might actually get this in the future. I'm using a Sennheiser e845s at the moment and noise is such a big issue for me living in a city like Hong Kong. If the noise rejection is as great as it seems, it'll really help my audio. 😄
Do you think you could review a mixer next? I was looking at the Neewer NW02-1A on amazon and it's cheap and looks decent. Not sure I want to pull the trigger tho.
It is better than the Blue Yeti but I do hear the difference with a more professional microphone, it sounds slightly muffled (I listen with a HD 700), especially in USB mode which is why I wouldn't buy any USB only microphone. The bottomline: fine for podcasting, not good enough for singing. I am curious how a $100-200 microphone (connected to a good ADC and amplifier) from Audio-Technica or Sennheiser would fare in comparison.
Very nice review. After extensive research, I settled with the Q2U (using your B&H affiliate link) based on mostly this video. The prices of all audio equipment seem jacked up at the moment, especially for Canada where selection is already limited. B&H and BestBuy still sell the Q2U base pack at $60
will you still say this is the best mic for the money in 2021. thinking about boying it. or do you you have anohter mic in the same prise class ? i shut go after ?
I have this mic! But I want to know what mic stand should I use for this? What is your advice? What is the mic stand that you are using in the video with this mic?
Hello! I was looking for a solid microphone and this review made me decide for it, and i also bought that behringer um2 that you recommend but i have no clue about how configure it, as im not seeing levels in a voicemeter or something i cant tell how high my voice is,so there is a program for configure this out? Can you make a video configuring this microphone and that um2? Do i need that +48V for the q2u mic? Or it may be posible that you provide me some kind of site or guide or something post somewhere so i can do it by my self? Ty so much and congrats for this great video.
The mic is great even on USB. I bought the UM2 to use with this and it died less than 6 months and their customer service is not good. Definitely get this mic but spend money on a good interface. That the problem with most of these reviews is they use them for a short amount of time then they get sold or put in a box.
Hey man. Fantastic Video! Because of you I just ordered this setup of audio interface and the mic. Was wondering if you could share to me your settings for the 30dollar AI as well as windows settings and any tips for it/audio settings in general for this setup? Thanks. Keep up the good work!
Hi SIr , I have Samson Q2U bought it after watching this video only , using it via USB on windows 10 though the mic is indeed V Good , I read somewhere that windows does not work very good with USB mics, now I am noticing not a production quality as you are having in this video. A. Is it true sir ? If it is true , then will Behringer UMC2 or the one version above will work the problem out ? I am only going to use it with one microphone as I am only using it for Demo Video Voice overs, or that you are using a pro level Post production, if that is the Issue what general settings or post production Settings that can be done to come to somewhere close you your level clarity. Using Audacity , but if that is an Issue I can upgrade that as well (though will have to learn that DAW then). Thanks in advance
This mic sounds like a great value. I love my sm57 for streaming. But I would have considered this one just for the price point if I knew about it before. I still may pick this up just for an extra mic or backup. Nice review man!
Perfect timing on this @eposvox. I recorded a video last night and cringed at the audio even after processing from my gaming headset. Pulled the trigger and bought this on my way to work. Will let you know what I think when I rerecord the video this weekend
Wonderful review! One question - When you switched the microphone to USB mode, it captured a little more noise as compared to XLR. In such case, if I'm broadcasting using OBS or vMix, is it possible to reduce noise using an audio plugin? Would be helpful if you could suggest a suitable measure for the same. Note: I don't have an audio interface at the moment due to budget constraints.
I just bought this based on your review. The warmth is lovely. But it picks up EVERYTHING. I can't see how to cut out the background noise. At the moment it's even picking up the sound of birds outside, the general car white noise from the large road a mile away etc. Is this normal? It definitely doesn't sound as nice and "dead" as you have it in your video. Any advice?
From the reviews of other USB/XLR mics it seems like the XLR isn’t as good but this one sounds beautiful which is great because I do want to plug into a mixer. Good review!
so i started with this mic early last year.. and use it over USB.. i picked up the hyperx quadcast S this year.. not sure which one i like better. the gain dail on the hyperx is annoying as i always seem to hit it . what are your thoughts
Getting this Monday along with the mixer you recommended, can you recommend a arm and shock mount for this please? Idk if the neewer one on Amazon is strong enough
I just bought myself one a week ago. Upgraded from a Boya M1 lavalier microphone. Best investment for my study by far. You can also plug this mic into a cellphone or iPad with the USB connection for true on-the-go recording.
I bought this mic about a month ago and it has this really bad static white noise and I can't figure out why. My friends on discord tell me it's too quite when the volume on windows is at 80, but at 100 the white noise is really bad. Did I just get a bad unit? I'm using it through USB by the way. I've tried using other USB ports and nothing changed. I think I got a defective unit because even with the mic mute switch turned on (so the mic is muted) the white noise is still there.
So what about dealing with mics picking up breathing? I'm trying to record for a youtube series I want to publish and every breath being picked up. I noticed it in your video, so is it just something I've overlooked all these years and now noticing since it's been pointed out?
When you ran it through USB did you have to give it a boost? I'm using Windows 10, and even at 100 vol, I can only reach about -16db (and basically have to yell to get -12). At 100 volume, the noise is pretty noticeable.
@@EposVox I have this mic! But I want to know what mic stand should I use for the Q2U? What is your advice? What is the mic stand that you are using in the video with this mic?
My 1 year old AT2035 seems to be holding out ok with my Scarlet 2i4. Your still getting a lot of artifacts when you speak. A pop filter would probably cut the artifacts out even further. Solid review, thanks.
This mic, the Behringer UMC2, and (if possible an amp) are next to buy on my list. Currently I stream with a Sennheiser GameZero headset with the Sennheiser GSX1200 amp for streaming. Excellent review!
@@globnoggin8779 The GSX 1200 headset amp is what I used for my headphones built in mic since it used 3.5 mm jacks. My mic was always on in the past before I got into software noise gate and compression😅. The price is similar to some audio interfaces so I'd say shop around and in your budget.
Ok maybe you know how to fix this since you recommend it... apparently there is a known issue with this mic... it does not get detected often unless you unplug it and plug it back in... I've tried driver re-installs also changing power settings to the usb port etc etc... can not find a fix that works. Being as it is a known issue I'm sure its not my system... if you know of any solution that works ... please let me know... other than that I love this mic.
Random question, how well would this new for something like an orchestra with the microphone placed in the audience? If you don't know don't worry, I'm just wondering what starter mic to get for that task. Thanks!
I'mma go for the seiren x as I don't want something sticking in front of my face but still have decent audio, any other suggestions? I like it more than any of the Blue offerings... I'll purchase it today for black friday
@@EposVox hmmmm... Thx for the reply. I'll investigate further. Too bad the mic of my Razer Nari is actual garbage otherwise I wouldn't've considered another mic...
@@EposVox in Belgium, the cheapest you can get this mic is €80 (=$88). If I look on Amazon US, it costs $50 +$21.50 shipping, so that's way cheaper. That means I still got money left for a boomarm as well. Probably going to order it on Amazon US today! Thank you for letting me firgure this more out, watched more reviews on proximity and it's actually really good! It's just that I'm used to having a decent mic on my headset so I wouldn't have to worry about where the mic is currently "hanging" bc it was always right in front of my face... Also I wanna stream more (game streams) so I move quite a lot and that's why I didn't want anything on a boom-arm...
On this particular announcer's voice, I hear a spike in the high mids, that grates on my ears. [thru A.T. M40x headphones] I hear it on the E/V too, but not as bad - it balances better with the EV's lows. I'm pretty sure the prominence is a quality of his voice; but you have to choose the mic to match the voice, right?
#q2uCult at least our cult recommends a good microphone. ;)

I want to buy Samson Q2U USB mic, but I have heard that it doesn't work well in Windows 10. Does it still have issue with Windows 10?
The microphone is better than me?
Good question

Yes
Samson makes great budget studio reference headphones too. NOTHING beats them for anywhere close to the price.
What are they?

Hey, great review! Did you apply any filters or software to the mic? Thanks!
Thanks! I'm going to get this instead of the Audio Technica 2100 as i've broken 3 of them now.

I'm a beginner . So I have a question ... Can I plug this mic on a mixer? LOL pls reply
You can plug this into a mixer with a XLR cable.
@@ProfessorX931 thanks bruv😍
This mic, the Behringer UMC2, and (if possible an amp) are next to buy on my list. Currently I stream with a Sennheiser GameZero headset with the Sennheiser GSX1200 amp for streaming. Excellent review!
I got the UMC 404HD instead😋
Exmachinagamma what is the difference?
I am debating buying this or the m audio nova so I would appreciate it if you can pick up a m audio nova 🙂
are u using mac or pc?
Do you happen to have a set up video for the 204hd?
Hi! Would you ever do a comparison of Q2U, ATR2100 and AT2005. As they are almost identical in appearance, just the price is different.
It sounds a bit middy to me? Is that normal? What about an SM58 would that be any good for streaming and stuff?
Have seen most of the review of samson q2u and this is one of the best one so far
Random question, how well would this new for something like an orchestra with the microphone placed in the audience? If you don't know don't worry, I'm just wondering what starter mic to get for that task. Thanks!
I would recommend a condenser mic for you particular needs.
matt lacoff thanks!
getting this as a step up from the blue snowball. love the idea. thank you EposVox and Podcastage
Awesome video & review! 😁 I've just added this mic along with the UM2 interface to my wishlist.
I'mma go for the seiren x as I don't want something sticking in front of my face but still have decent audio, any other suggestions? I like it more than any of the Blue offerings... I'll purchase it today for black friday
Seiren X still going to sound like crap if it's not in front of your face. That's how these mics are designed to be used.
Wait, the audio was not treated? The microfone cancels the noise automatically?
On this particular announcer's voice, I hear a spike in the high mids, that grates on my ears. [thru A.T. M40x headphones] I hear it on the E/V too, but not as bad - it balances better with the EV's lows. I'm pretty sure the prominence is a quality of his voice; but you have to choose the mic to match the voice, right?
Can you recommend me which microphone is the best for singing?
Behringer C1u Usb/Fifine T669 Usb/Samson Q2u Usb. Thanks!
